ガイドさんはとても親切で楽しい人でした コースはダウンヒルもありますがアップヒルもあります ダブルやシングルもあります 景色も最高です おすすめします The guide was very kind and reassuring There were not only downhills but also uphills. The guide was as fast as an e-bike even on the uphill slopes. He took photos and videos The course, the views and the food are amazing. Along the way you can see chickens, sheep and cows up close Thank you very much I recommend this tour

Experienced guides will accompany advanced and intermediate mountain bikers on a challenging off-road ride from Doi Pui Summit, elevation of 1550m. The ride will take you down one of the many trails leading to the valley, where you'll encounter knurly rutted out double and single tracks that will test your riding skills. Along the way, you'll be treated to amazing viewpoints, highland jungle, hill tribe farmers, and villages that bring you closer to mountain culture. At our destination, Lake Huay Tueng Thao, we have lunch and take a swim to cap off our adventure. This ride is recommended for intermediate riders. For those who prefer a slower, easier pace, Trip 1 "The Eagles Route" is available. See you on the hill!

Awesome trip, with friendly and helpful guides. Excellent day out! Totally recommend this company to anyone looking for an ace day out doing techy MTB. 10/10!
I had a fantastic day of riding with Bas-definitely was a challenge, but Bas was a capable and knowledgeable guide, and we had a blast! Although you are descending from a mountaintop, there are certainly some tough climbs as well. We had several short stops to admire the scenery and look at the foliage, but there was several hours of riding. We enjoyed a lakeside lunch, and then rode the 15kms into town and back to the shop.
I did the Old Smugglers Route with my son and had a reasonable overall experience. The trail overall is good fun and our guide added to the enjoyment. Note though that there isn’t much real single trail at all, which is different to what we had been told. Most of the trail is through jeep track with only a small bit of genuine single trail at the end. The bikes also need a serious refresh. The bikes have seen better days and not of the quality needed to have the most fun from a day like this. We had several issues with a warped wheel, brakes, suspension and gears. Overall though, there doesn’t seem a lot of other choice in Chiang Mai right now, so if you’re keen to explore the trails, it’s a reasonable option.
The Chiang Mai Mountain Biking & Kayaks is conveniently located in the old city. I visited the shop before I signed up for the scienic ride #3. The staff recommended this route as the best trip for XC and views. The tour does not begin until late in the morning. It was after 10 am when we left. Too late for the heat in the mountains. The staff was very accommodating to those guests who need to change tours dependent on skill level. After a long and winding shuttle ride to the top of the mountain we geared up. The knee and elbow pads are very tired and don't stay in place. The bikes were not in any better shape. Treck and Kaze. The forks are shot and headsets were loose. Brakes were also hit and miss. The guides did their best to address some issues. The trails are a great mix of jeep double track and single track through the jungle. The XC trails are definately not maintained but fun none the less. It would be a slip and slide in the rainy season! The guides were a lot of fun and very knoledgeable about the area. The working condition of the bikes here is terrible for a XC/DH adventure. The only maintence seems to be a bit of oil on the chain. I passed on the full DH day due to the condition of the rental equipment.
I did ride #3 the old smugglers route. It was raining and wet, which made the trails a bit slippery, but still had a great time. My guide James was very good. He called steep downhill and uphill bits before we got there so you could be in the right gear, and showed the best line through sections of trail. Bikes and safety gear were all in good condition too. A great friendly and challenging day out.
We did the route #3. We had originally signed up to do the easier route #1, but the guides convinced us to join the more difficult group. After about an hour of riding, the route proved to be much too difficult for me personally. Thankfully, one guide stayed with me (I forget his name). He was incredibly patient and helpful. He instructed me, altered the route for me, and stayed with me the whole time while the rest of the group went ahead. He was very friendly and personable. Overall, I would recommend the company but stick with the beginner route if you are new to mountain biking!
I signed up for the mountain biking ride the night before. Staff was very friendly. Next day we bussed to the top of the mountain and started out. A bit challenging for a beginner I would say, as we had to ride on two concrete tracks about a foot wide each. Then an eroded road to navigate. Then some road riding which was thoroughly enjoyable. Finally lunch and camaraderie with the group. It was the highlight of my trip.
I went with my boyfriend and neither of us had any experience mountain biking although we bike on the road every day. We did track 1 and our guide, Art, made some slight changes to the route depending to add some more challenges paths which was really fun! Despite having no experience it was a really adventurous day and the track was sometimes challenging but at the perfect level for us! We were with a group of 11 and everyone was similar level, some a little better than others so they took a few alternate tracks on the way down. For 5/5 stars, we would have liked an intro to the bikes before we started to learn more about how best to use brakes and gears etc and how the bike handles but we figured it out for ourselves :) also the sexist comments during the office intro may be a bit too much and the guide was nice and funny enough without them.
Joined the programme 3A, which the starting point was on a high mountain, as I have no experience on downhill ride at all so it was a bit tough for me. Stopped by a nice waterfall. Great experience. Tour leaders Art and Jan were good guys.
Excellent day out. Well organised excursion with good guides. Well worth the money. A dip in the lake, meal and beer afterwards topped it off. It rained the whole day but this didn't detract from the trip. If anything it kept the temperature down which is good for a Scottish lad.
I did the #3 Intermediate cross-country mountain biking tour July 4, 2017. It's the low season and I was the only one that signed up so it was just the guide, Palm, and I. Palm was very accommodating and even offered to let me do a different activity so I wasn't alone but I was keen on mountain biking. Palm's English was great and he did a good job explaining everything I'd need to know before starting our ride. I had mountain biking experience so we go right to it. He was happy to stop for photos and asked how I was doing each time we stopped. A+ to him. The rout we took was a mix of concrete roadway, dirt roadway with deep ruts, and single track through the woods. The dirt road was slick from the last rain and poisonous caterpillars hung from the trees adding an additional obstacle. The single track was full of rocks and roots it was more slow-going and technical than the twisty, bermmed trails I was used to but fun none the less. Since it was just the two of us and we both had experience we were able to keep a good pace and reached the lake in about half the predicted time. I felt as though I got my fill and could have taken my time if I wanted so the short ride didn't bother me. What did bother me was the condition of the equipment. The tires on the bike were worn making the trail extra slick. The seat (the few times I was on it) was unbearable. The knee and elbow pads were torn and full of holes. The straps were so stretched out that Palm had to synch them down and tie them off. The helmet was missing the visor and looked like it had taken a hit or two. By far the worst part was the platform pedals on the bike. They were very worn and, especially after getting wet, I could not keep my feet on them. They really need to be replaced or sharpened or something. Over all I enjoyed the trip and it was worth the money to me. If you have some experience mountain biking definitely look into the more difficult trips but ensure the bike and safety equipment will work for you before you pay.
I am fit, but not a regular biker ... and I wanted a real off road mountain bike experience so I signed up for Ride #3, which was described as intermediate and suitable for the enthusiastic beginner (me!) or advanced riders. First section to the coffee plantation was great - good workout and a fun ride off road thru the plantation. I stacked once taking a slippery turn too fast. Thank goodness for the safety gear I was up a-ok. From the coffee plantation the track goes thru a hill tribe village and then starts winding thru the national park. I opted for 'less hills' and was doing ok with the ups and downs and little stream crossings. Jay the guide gave expertise advice and tips and helped my riding skill and confidence. A couple of times I lost momentum, or a pedal hit a rut and knocked my balance, resulting in planting my feet in the gooey mud. Only one more mishap on this leg ... again too fast (for my skills) the front wheel hit a rut and as I tried to stop the bike my weight and momentum carried me in slow mo over the handlebars - slow enough I could tuck and roll into the soft dirt. Another lesson from gravity. The downhill section was beautiful - thru the lychee plantations and forest that opened to fantastic views of the valley. The road was dry, but extremely rutted and tricky at times. Having learnt my lessons I was cautious with my speed but it was exhilarating in the smooth areas to let it roll. Finished about 4 hours later, enjoying a delicious Pad Thai in a covered hut over the lake. What an amazing day. The group I was with did the easier ride - and they had a blast, but escaped without falling 😃. I was much more exhausted, sweaty, muddy and wet - but hey! thats what I chose that ride for! Definitely recommended, and advise you to choose your adventure according to your skills and ambitions and fitness. Their guides are excellent, bikes top notch and a pleasure to ride.
Me and my friends decided to try downhill in Chiang Mai, which was a good decision. Even it was raining, we enjoyed the Smugglers' trail, it included uphill, cross country and downhill sectors as well. The bikes was well equipped, and our guide was professional. He offered thet he makes us some video when we went accross a ghyll, so we could go back and ride it again. The Mountain was beautiful, I would definitely repeat it.
We signed up for full day mountain biking trip #3 with minimal off road cycling experience. It was definitely challenging at times but overall super fun and a great way to experience nature around Chiang Mai. Guides were fantastic, very encouraging and accommodated varying skill levels within the group.
We spent two days biking with Chiang Mai Mountain Biking & Kayak. This was my second trip with them and we did routes 3 and 2 this time. On the first day there must have been 20-30 people waiting at the shop (it looked like a nightmare) but Aidan's experienced staff quickly sorted everyone registered and briefed them and we were all loaded on the right vehicles fully briefed and kitted out in no time. There was a real mix from total beginners to very competent bikers which was initially concerning in case we were put in with a totally inappropriate group. Again Aidan's team sorted us out and they were fantastic in assessing everyone's ability to ensure we all had a great time and went at the right pace. Jay and Nat deserve a special mention as they were brilliant in looking after us and constantly adjusting our route to make sure we did what we wanted and not what the "system" said. They tested us out to get an understanding of ability and this included some very hairy downhill single track which was awesome! The trails are fantastic even in the wet and cloudy conditions we had on day 2 and will completely satisfy any level of mountain biker. Hats off to Chiang Mai Mountain Biking for an awesome, caring and highly professional service. We will be back soon!
We did a day mountain biking as part of our honeymoon. We're experienced mountain bikers and did route 3, which involves some climbing and 1 big hill. Apart from that it was 1500m of amazing off road descent after you are dropped off at the top of the mountain outside Chiang Mai. The guides are fun and friendly, and also very good bikers. If you are a beginner mountain biker I would recommend route 1 or the hike and bike. You can pick on the day. The hard tail bikes with hydraulic disc brakes are more than up to the job. At the end you finish at a lake where you get lunch, drinks, and can go for a swim to cool off.
We did a full day down hill mountain biking session on the Smugglers Route. The company was very professional. We were picked up from our hotel on time, given a safety briefing and provided with as much water as we needed. Our guides spoke perfect English and were very safety conscious. The bikes were okay, some of them were a little worse for wear but mine served its purpose fine. This was a very fun and challenging ride with advanced single track and some steep up hill climbs. The views are beautiful, this is definitely one of the best activities you can do in Chiang Mai. Lunch was served after the ride and was also very good. You will meet awesome people doing this.
I did the Smugglers Route ( No 2 course ) for intermediate riders.Although one part of the ride was too steep for my old legs the whole experiece was great fun.The food at the end of the ride was good too.
It was the most adventurous day of my stay in Chiang Mai. I had visited the store one evening and after much discussion and careful consideration Mr.Manager (sorry forgot your name) and Shirley chose Route 3 for me. The next morning after being picked up from my hotel I came to the store to get fitted in the biking gear, safety briefing and met fellow bikers. The mood was upbeat and Nat and J added fun with their humor all the while working steadfastly loading the bikes. We left for the starting point in some time. Once there we were given our bikes and asked to test them and were checked individually. I consider myself lucky to be assigned Jay, athlete, the region's champion and winner of many accolades. My route was cross country, 70% country and 30% downhill and he chose the intermediate level after assessing me. For me it was a pleasure trip, looking for thrill and adventure and he made it just that, also giving me valuable pointers and tips that I could develop in future. I felt safe when he asked me to go ahead in difficult terrain and kept an eye out while following. We stopped at interesting spots for pictures such as cherry blossom trees, tea house, a stream with a wooden house and valley view points. When he saw that I was willing to learn and try new stuff he even encouraged me to try a 1 minute steep down hill that I managed to do halfway and the fact that I tried it made me ecstatic. The trip ended with a lunch by lake Huay Tung Thao. I want to thank Jay and the whole team for making it possible and having the widest selection of routes to choose from ( majority of the tour operators recommend them for mountain biking). Keep up the good work and best wishes to Jay for his bright future, special thanks to Mr. Manager for making me laugh all the time. In case you are wondering this is Shailey or Ms.India as you fondly called me.
I've never done mountain biking before but read great things on here so thought I would give it a go. I wanted to push myself so signed up for #3 ride which has some uphills and downhills. However, after the initial 5km, all of which is downhill and very steep I decided the #1 route would suite me a lot better. The instructors were fantastic and gave advice about how to sit and use the brakes and were very patient allowing us to go at our speed and not rush us. We stopped often to rest the fingers (gripping tightly was definitely needed!) and to enjoy the scenery. At times we were given the option to go off road which was great and pushed us a bit. Lunch was down at the lake - be warned you don't get this until 3:30pm/4pm so make sure you have a good breakfast! Really loved it and met some great people on the trip! Highly recommend for beginners who want to have some fun whilst in Chiang Mai!
Did the mountainbike track #3 and loved every bit of it. The track was exactly right for me with some steep decents and a couple of tough little climbs. It is manageable by anyone whose confident on a bike and enjoys a bit of a challenge. The guide was great, stopping after every section to gather the group again and explain what was coming next. The bikes had some minor issues throughout the tour but each of them was quickly fixed by our guide. You'll have a great day if you do this track and will sleep like a baby by the end of the day.
Route 1 and 3 are pretty interchangeable depending on your skill level. The guides will do a little skills ride at the top and test you out, they will put you in a suitable group depending on what you want to get out of the day. The routes are pretty flexible, the most aggressive route 3 is hard work. We are pretty fit and we were blowing out by the end of it. Some fast sweeping downhill, some technical rocky sections and a fair bit of uphill (this can be easily avoided if you want) considering you start at the top of the mountain and finish at the bottom.
I booked Tour 3 of the mountain bike trips. The preride orientation was well done and throughly explained in good detail on what to expect. Departure was prompt and a beautiful truck ride out of the city to the top of the mountain. The downhill ride was exciting and offered challenges on mostly jeep roads with occasional sections of good hard single track. Ending at the lake for "lunch" was a pleasent way to end a good day of adventure. 5 stars for the riding terrain and beauty of the country side. Cautions & Considerations: - Check your bike throughly to ensure it is in good working order. Do this at the top of the hill. My front wheel was not properly attached and my rear breaks had issues on the last half of the downhill. Even though it's been stated by the management that the bikes get checked over every night. Check for yourself! - If you booked an easier tour do not be convinced to join a more difficult tour, during the so called check ride section! This happened on our trip, with two other riders being told they could do it and to step up to the challenge. It did not go well for either rider. One terminated the ride after a bad crash (post ride hospital visit) and the other rang his bell pretty good after a flip on the single track. Stick to you experience level, your body will appreciate it later. - Bring addiquie drinking water (lots) there is none available enroute! - The ride is challenging & lots of fun! But expect that your going to crash. It's not a question of if, its a question of when. Just part of the price you pay when you play hard! Go ride, check your bike and have fun!
We took the tour 3 which was mostly downhill. It was challenging but not too. I wouldn't go if you haven't been riding on trails before. The trip was well organized. Car ride up the hill wasn't too long and we did as much cycling as promised. The sceneries are beautiful through the unspoiled forests. You really get to see the nature closely though the trail was quite difficult and you have to mostly concentrate on the road. Good value!
We went as a group of three on the mountain bike trip 3 (intermediate). Two of us were unsure that we would be able to complete the trip, but were reassured that we could go at our own pace and that we could change trip after 20 minutes if it was too challenging. Two of us did change to trip 1, which was really enjoyable and suitable for beginners and families, but still challenging! The rest of trip 3 was far more difficult, but great fun if you fancy some more uphill and faster downhill. Overall we all felt safe and the trips were really good fun with great views of the national park. A good lunch was provided by the lake at the bottom.
Done the route #3 ... the smugglers route. I was fortunate to be by myself as its low season at the moment... Had the guide, Jay all to my myself :) The ride was absolutely exhilirating I'll be honest and say I was bricking it and doing my shahadah and last words during half the ride... As you can pick up pace sooooo easily and it'd very dangerous if downhill, around bends and uneven road... So beware of this particular route if you are not up for it... But I must Say Service in general very good Bike was excellent Protective gear given was top notch. I had two EPIC crashes and lets just say the bike remained sturdy and my protective gear worked ! Jay was incredible. Lovely guy and He tailored the ride to my fitness level Coffee shop stop was great Food for lunch was delicous Transport sorted If I ever come Chiang mai again for sure I will come back for another ride Deffo the best (non animal related) activity I done during my travels!
The tour was very good organised. They offer a lot of good trails for advance bikers. The equipment could be a litte better but for one day it worked. The guides speak a good english and are quiet helpful, friendly and always funny :-) I did the old smugglers route an I was completly satisfied after it. I can clearly recommend them. Thumb up!
I did intermediate course number 3. Our group of 11 was narrowed down to three by our guide because of lack of ability. The guide took great care to make sure that each person was matched with right course. My bike was in excellent condition. The guides stopped us frequently during our course to see how we were doing, and plan out the next section with us. This way we knew what to expect. I had an exhilarating day and would feel very comfortable recommending this company.
We did Doi Pui with a combination off trip 1 and 3. Family of four with children aged 11 and 14. Oldest in our group was 75, which our guide reckoned was a record. Good safety gear (pads can be a bit hard to secure, but tie them if vercro is worn), and many of the bike are recently new. Good combination of dirtroad and singletrack. Guides make sure everybody gets down safe, and also make a lot of fun. Try the coffee at the plantation, it's very good. Very good quality food at the lake.
Done the smugglers route. it was an amazing day with some beast of climbs, but was well worth it with great views and adrenalin pumping tracks down the national park. This was my first true mountain biking experience and found it tough but great fun. The guides where great and the food by the lake was spot on after a hard day cycling.
I went for the track number 3. I'm not a biker for sure and I had to stop a bunch of times during the uphill parts. The instructor never got nervous and awaited me and the others all the time. They also reschedule the trip according to the average level of the group. I confirm equipment could be better, but this flaw was greatly compensated by the good preparation of staff
Had a great bike ride on the Tarmac with our guide, Jay, who quietly and expertly guided us through the traffic of Chiang Mai then led us up some tough hills in the National Park surrounding Chiang Mai. Some wonderfully stunning views, the ride we did was tough but most enjoyable, challenging and worth every effort.
This was an awesome day trip for my wife and I. We are both experienced, intermediate mountain bikers and did "level 3". They pick up from your hotel, bring you to the shop and give a quick overview. I thought this could have been a bit quicker paced and better organized, but about met my expectations. From there, they load you in a truck and drive you to the top of the mountain. The gear is relatively modern, but like one reviewer noted, it has been beat to snot. The bottom bracket bearing on my first bike was out - when I showed the guide, he attempted to "tighten" down the crank arms which has nothing to do with the bottom bracket bearing. Anyway, they gave me a different bike that had a bald rear tire and the disc brake pads were pretty far gone (grinding). It's somewhat a shame as the gear is decent, just needs to be maintained. However, even with the tired gear, this trip is totally worth it. The views are awesome! Most of the trail was double-track/old washed out dirt road. Mostly downhill with a few short ups here and there. There were a few limited sections of single track. I'd normally go for more technical, but being on vacation and without clipless pedals, this terrain was just fine. Our "guide" road in flip-flops and no helmet. I took some offense to this, but whatever. At the end, you're treated with a filling lunch and shuttle back into town. The staff was friendly and easy to work with. Totally recommend.
Did the old smugglers road. I liked the trail quite a lot and the guides did a good job as well. It was challenging at some points. Lunch was tasty as well. What i did not like at all: -Condition of the bicycles! My backtire had like 1mm profile! However they changed the whole wheel after my complaint. Furthermore no matter which gear i used uphill, it hurt my ears and i was scared that my chain or something else breaks...other people could only use half their gears. A fork/suspension is not supposed to squeak as well! The protectors did not fit well many people, including me and i have an average body. I had to take them off as they got always loose after a few roots or bumps...not that i would wear protectors on a trail like this at home... -It says the distance is 35km while gps says 18km, you actually have the gps tracks, why lying to people?
If you're going to Chiang Mai, you have to do one of these trips. We did track 3 and it was an amazing experience. Our original plan was to do one, or maybe two days of downhill, but we ended up doing a trip everyday. The staff was fantastic. They focused on safety but didn't take away from the thrill of downhill. They made sure everyone was matched up with the right size bike and took the extra time to show less experience riders how to properly work their bikes. At the top of the mountain when we first hopped on the bikes, the staff evaluated everyone to ensure they were matched with the right track/ability level. Thought that was very professional and really showed they cared about their customers. The ride itself was one of the most amazing excursions I had ever done. The views were amazing and the guides kept everyone smiling, laughing and having a good time. There was never a dull moment from start to finish. Shout out to Art who was absolutely hilarious and made sure everyone was having a blast. To the whole crew at CM mountain bike and kayak, thank you and hope to see you again.
Did the 3a mountain bike trip. A good track but there are a lot of things they need to improve. Key issue - OLD BIKES. They're not full suspension (just front shocks) and key parts of many of the bikes were failing. Shocks weren't good, many people brakes required fixes throughout the day. The amount of rocks warranted full suspension - our bodies were absorbing most of the shock. Not ideal. I've been on other mountain biking trips in Bali and New Zealand. What I've seen is high quality full suspension bikes, lunch organised better and transport for backpacks (we carried 2-3 litres of water - pretty heavy) I now wish I went with x biking chiang mai instead. You should too.
The team is well trained English speaking and friendly. .. the track no 3 from their program is just perfect for the intermediate level that is you have to have some skills in off road biking or mountain biking. The program ends at the lake with a nice lunch. ..you will be encouraged to swim do not hesitate even if the water looks muddy its clean enough for a refreshing swimming. You will not regret. Thank you Tam our friendly guide. ..
The suggestion from the staff was to ride the #3 track. This is a great intermediate ride requiring some skills and fitness. If you ride regularly over challenging terrain this is for you. The guides are fantastic and allow you to ride as fast (or slow) as you want. However I needed more! Three days later I rode #6x. Just me and my guide. First I want to be clear here. It's about having fun so don't kid yourself and tackle this ride unless you are very fit and have good skills. The first climb is big! To say you rode to the top is a monster effort. After the climb it's all good XC fun. Carry water and a few snacks, you'll need it. Enjoy.
I had a spare day in Chiang Mai and wanted to see some of the jungles surrounding the city. Spending the day mountain biking was definitely an excellent experience! I chose the 'intermediate' cross-country trail, and although for those with some mountain biking experience the tracks were quite leisurely there was still enough short climbs and small single track sections to feel like you'd achieved something by the end of the day. The views were spectacular, and our guide Jane was terrific - very attentive, informative, and friendly. I would certainly recommend this company to anyone passing through Chiang Mai as a way to see some of the Thai jungle and local villages!
Probably the highlight of my time in Chiang Mai. I did the 'easy level 3' course which proved challenging enough. They give you a bit of a test out on the tracks so you can decide which course is best for you. Our guide was called Jane and he was an absolute legend. He helped us through all the tricky parts of the course and was a font of local knowledge and jokes. Just ended up having a great time hanging out with him for a few hours. They really prioritise safety. They supply knee and elbow guards; the gear is really high quality and the bikes are great. The guides will even set up your front and back breaks for left or right handlebars depending on where you are from and what you are used to. There are lychees you can pick and eat along the way. Jane took us a bit off the course to show us a waterfall which was awesome. Jane checked all of our equipment for us and gave plenty of advice about what was coming up. At the end is a delicious lunch as well. Definitely do this if you are in Chiang Mai. The view is awesome and it's just a lot of fun. I'm not sure how much of the payment the guides actually get, so do consider tipping them - they do an amazing job.
Great day in the forest. Just wanted to say we had a great time mountain biking. Great guides and decent bikes. Thank you for a really good day in the mountains. We did trip 3. Old Smugglers route. Our guide Jay left nothing to chance and was as helpfull as one can be. Good lunch See you next year again.
I and my girlfriend signed up for The Old Smugglers Routes, #3, which was rated as intermediate level. The first half of track was fine but the second one was too easy and more or less boring. Also the whole track could have been longer. In their headquarters we picked up the safety gear, which was ok. Then we were briefed on track and safety. In my opinion they try to scare you a little to make you ride cautiously. There is a possibility to discuss your track if you are not sure about the difficulty which leads to same delay. When the bikes are loaded and riders are seated all take off to an hour long journey to Doi Suttep summit where they give you the bike. The bikes could have been in better condition but generally were ok. In our group there were three guides for five riders. Right after start from the summit there was completely useless break, in my opinion, in a coffee shop so may try to negotiate to avoid it. The lunch by the lake was fine with nice view. You will be charged an additional fee to national park.
I didn't know quite what to expect, but this turned out to be the most fun I had in Chiang Mai... and possibly all of Thailand. I love mountain biking, and I do it as often as possible back home in the states. Not wanting to be stuck going through an easy route with a bunch of beginners, I decided to opt for an intermediate route with #3. After a short jaunt and some tiring uphills, I realized I wasn't in the shape I thought I was. Luckily they give you the option to switch to an easier ride, when everyone stops for a short break at a coffee shop near the top of the hill. So I switched to ride #1 and we started off with some sweet downhills. After two times of having to stop and wait for those behind us... the guide could tell that some of the other guys and I were itching to go fast. So he split up the group, and actually took us on more difficult routes. It was fantastic. This ride is easily some of the best mountain biking I ever done, and the views were amazing. Highly recommended!
This is a great way of seeing the national park! I've mountain biked in UK and I tried the intermediate smugglers route. Despite what the guy said at the beginning (it's very tough, you might not be able to do it.....) it was fine and the right level for me. There were some pretty challenging parts and a few falls due to it being rainy season but this was all part of the fun!
I booked the easy trip as I'm out of shape but you have the guides advice and can switch up the trip during. I am glad I took their advice and they made a light version of the no 3 trip for us slow pokes. Was tons of fun and the guide I got in my group was educational and took good care of us. Dinner with the group was nice by the water. I only wish they had a higher mountain :) The bikes had a fair amount of gear slippage but the brakes was all good.
We booked route #3 (old smuggler's route) mountain biking trip as a part of two days tour from Tree Top Asia (with Zipline adventures). So, the route is a bit challenging for those who did mountain biking just a couple of times before (like me) but the guides evaluate each participant's ability and biking skills before start. Believe me, the beautiful scenery from the mountains and on the lake at the end of the trip worth it! Guides are very helpful and knowledgeable, they speak English very well. If you like cross-country biking and the forest, it's definitely for you. The only minus is quite old equipment - my bike sounded like it's gonna fall apart, and safety equipment is quite dirty. But the bikes are well maintained, so it doesn't cause a problem. The trip was awesome!
If you can ride a bike then take the intermediate route - and you can choose whether or not to try the 'technical' sections, or remain unburied and unscratched by staying on the paths. Route down the mountain and brought he coffee plantations is quite beautiful, bikes are good quality (if well used!), and he guides personable. A good day out
We did the no. 3 route today. Hotel pick up was half an hour late which had us starting to worry and welcome was a little chaotic at the centre. However working in the leisure/tourism business i know the start of the day is the toughest to organise. So the bad stuff out the way, what followed was very good indeed. A long ride up the mountain on a windy road, air temp becoming much cooler as to be expected at 1400m altitude. The guide Louis was very personable, helpful and informative. Safety briefings and reminders frequent. Quality of bikes good. The intermediate trip was not easy, i consider myself a reasonably fit active 40 year old, quite sporty, so the challenge was definitely there as i've done alot of cycling in my time my very little mountain biking. All of that said we were never rushed and the scenery was excellent, as was the coffee. No opium!
Booked trip 3 riding from the top of the mountain to the lake and had a fantastic day would recommend to anyone food was fab, guide was very good and spoke good english, thanks scott
