Really lovely experience, there is in fact a family of white handed gibbons who we were able to see, who are free roaming but get food supplements which keep them living near their caretakers. Also had a lovely botanical tour and some good food! Would definitely recommend!
Best tour ever! Yes that sounds excessive but hear me out! The lady driver Gos, was the best driver I ever had on tour in Thailand and the roads around Mae Kampong are no joke! Our guide Smile, with the most fitting name ever, had answers to all questions we threw at him, quite many over the day, and made sure we had a great time. The local guide that joined us, P'John, gave us so many Infos abouts plants in the jungle and how to use them as food or medicine. Everyone was just absolutely amazing in their job and you could see they truly love their job and the places we visited! The highlight of the trip were obviously the Gibbons, we saw a family of three and the baby was so tiny! We were asked to stay in a respectful distance so we don't disturb them and had plenty of time to watch them be their lovely selfs. It was so heartwarming to see the parents playing with the baby! Mae Kampong Village itself is really beautiful and such a cute photo opportunity. The food we got was super tasty and the coffee place we stopped by was super cozy. Altogether it was a very exhausting, it's steep and slippery at times, but so rewarding and amazing to see! I hope to be back someday and can just recommend this tour to anyone!
katy Local Guide·78 reviews·2 photos just now New We have just returned from the Hidden Jungle Trek in Mae Kampong, and I don't even know where to start with praising it! It has been truly the best tour we have ever experienced! To start with our amazing guide Nee, she is truly one in a million, her knowledge, kindness and fantastic personality made this day truly special. From the moment we stepped out of the van in the little village she started teaching us all about the different plants we could see and the history of the land. Golf our incredible driver who not only was the best and safest driver we ever had in Thailand showed her kindness to each animal we met along the path which just shows what a wonderful lady she is. We had the opportunity to try coffee and tea grown locally overlooking the beautiful which was extremely tasty! Mr Noon our local tour guide through the jungle pointed out some very interesting things along the was that otherwise we would not of noticed! We had at the end of the tour the chance to see a family of Gibbons which we feel extremely fortunate to see in there natural habitat. Not only was it amazing to spend the day learning and observing but to know that there are wonderful companies like this that are truly supporting local initiatives and protecting the wildlife Book this tour!! You will not regret it for a minute!!
One of the best excursions of our lives! We have just returned from what was one of the best—if not the best—excursions of our lives. Our guides were amazing: Nee, our superb driver and comedy relief Golf, and our local guide, Mr Noon. We are beyond impressed. Their kindness and wholehearted approach to the excursion left us speechless. The knowledge Nee possesses about the land, plants and local traditions is simply incredible. She explained everything to us, including each plant and its purpose. She let us try Thai coriander leaves, a Thai toothache plant, the “toilet-paper plant” 😉, cinnamon-tree bark and so much more. Nee showed us things we could never have learned from a book or documentary. On top of that, she was incredibly kind and wonderful to be around. She adjusted the pace to suit us and the needs of the excursion. We enjoyed amazing homegrown coffee and tea, while lunch was an explosion of local flavours. Along the way, we saw plenty of insects, a snake, a stick insect and many other examples of the local fauna. We were accompanied by Mr Noon and his amazingly friendly dogs—Thong became my special friend! At the end of the day, we were blessed to see a family of gibbons with their little one-year-old baby. This was THE BEST experience ever. Nee, Golf and Mr Noon have such beautiful hearts and souls, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have met them. Special greetings as well to our excursion buddy Emily from Southern California. What an amazing day!
Great experience, guide was very warm, personable, and kind, as well as all staff. A nature and vegetation tour as much as a gibbon tour.
We loved our day with Eco Tours Chiang Mai. Seeing the gibbons was wonderful and we enjoyed our trek through the jungle. The guide was really knowledgeable and we learned a lot. The lunch was great, in a beautiful restaurant by the river. It was well run and organised, with good communication. We were collected and dropped off at our hotel.
Impressive tour through the jungle and daily life of the local village people. Learn about the Gibon monkeys and the flora of the forest. The sides were very good and helpful 👌
The whole day was great. First we had a short excursion to the Gibbons, then we visited the Waterfalls and in the end the Mae Kampong main village. What we liked best was to see the Gibbons in their natural habitat, but also that our guides shared their knowledge about local foods and plants. We really enjoyed the day a lot!
Fantastic day out in the mountains, so much knowledge was shared about the local fauna and flora. It was amazing to see the local family of gibbons. The guides were amazing and very friendly. Can’t recommend it enough if you like nature and mountains! Also the restaurant we ate for lunch was delicious.
Best tour we did on our honeymoon!! Guides were lovely and knowledgeable and we had the best time! Loved seeing the Gibbons especially and learning about the flora and fauna
The gibbons showed up after a short hike. We saw a female with her 5 week old baby and her mate. They had a lot of energy and did some incredible jumps and observed us.
I spent a wonderful day with driver (and Eco Tours owner) Golf and guide TK. They were super knowledgeable and accommodating—jungle trek is what I wanted and that’s exactly what I got! Along with local resident Mr Song (who shared his extensive knowledge of edible plants and herbs) we spent the day observing gibbons, hiking through the jungle, wading in a waterfall, and enjoying lunch including some unusual local dishes. Golf has clearly spent a very long time cultivating relationships with the local folks and it absolutely shows! A gem of a trip :)
This tour will almost certainly be my favorite thing I’ve done in Thailand. The guide and driver, both women, were amazing! Both spoke great English and were very knowledgeable about the gibbons and as well as village culture. We were lucky enough to see the gibbons which was spectacular. The tour company worked with us to be dropped off in Kampong Village at our hotel (which I totally recommend, we haven’t seen any other westerners here since 3:00 pm) and held our luggage in their van during the tour. Very worthwhile!
One of the highlights of our trip to Thailand. Amazing tourguide, friendly people and beautiful scenery. What an honour it was to be seeing these gibbons in their natural habitat. An amazing day and a must do activity when you're visiting Chiand Mai.
It was such an amazing tour! Both the local guide and the leader guide (TK) were wonderful, knowledgeable about plants, flowers, and various herbs. I learned so much from both of them, even though I couldn't remember everything haha The people in the village were also so friendly and greeted us along the way, Our group was incredibly lucky to spot a gibbon in the morning—it was such a fantastic experience !!! I highly recommended this tour !!!!
It was very boring, didn’t really see much of the market place (less than 10min) bcuz she had us running to catch the gibbons( before that she told us she wasn’t sure if we’d see them) food was blah I wish we got to see the parts that it was famous for. I guess it’s more of a simple nature walk with one gibbon they have to feed. It’s so expensive for what we got
YOU MUST BOOK IT! This tour is a once in a lifetime experience. If you love nature, good food, Studio Ghibli and gibbons, this is your tour! We got so lucky to get TK as our tour guide. Her personality is very bubbly and cute. She answered all of our silly questions and helped me with a bug bite by putting some gel on. The trekking was very scenic and with the local guide super informative. We touched, smelled and tasted everything that we could and allowed during the trip. Due to a funeral, our schedule needed to be amended, so we had an early lunch at a café on the top of the mountain with a breathtaking view. A drink and a dish included, and you won't be disappointed. Very delicious drinks and food will await. The waterfall route was a bit hectic, going up and down but it totally worth it. After going through the village during our free time, we headed to see the gibbons. There was no sightings of them so far, but we were very hopeful. We spent a lot of time waiting and trekking thriught the jungle without a luck. After waiting another 20 minutes, we headed back to our van. After 8 minutes of walking, we got a call that the pair came to their spot. We rushed back to the place to catch a glimpse of them, and there they were. We stayed there for quite a while to follow them a bit, and watching them from a safe distance. It's an core memory now! We got very, very lucky to see them, especially at the very last minute. I hope that whoever ends up on this tour, will get to see them and have this memory locked as well. As mentioned, don't hesitate to book this tour! Oh, and if you can, ask for TK.
I really enjoyed this tour. I was a bit hesitant given the cost, but I feel it was well worth it. The entire experience was very professionally organized and run. Our guide, Suwanus, was so lovely - so sweet & friendly, a wealth of local knowledge, patient, and clearly loves what she is doing. Eco Tours, the company running the trip, is making a great contribution to the local community and helping to preserve a gorgeous unspoiled forest. Our group had only six people, which was an ideal size. Pickup was so easy, ride was comfortable and quick. Drink for coffee break & full lunch were included at local restaurants - both were scenic with delicious choices. We were lucky enough to see not one but two gibbons, and it was such a wonderful treat to see them swinging through the canopy and watching us. I recommend binoculars as they spend most of their time quite high up, though we were able to get some good photos when they came down lower for a bit. The local caretaker is clearly very dedicated to his role and seems like a real lover of nature and the wild animals he is looking after. Obviously I would highly recommend this trip! Definitely follow their advice about good hiking shoes, bug spray, & fitness level.
This was a beautiful experience in all aspects - knowledgeable and friendly guide, beautifully organized with attention to the smallest of details, vast knowledge of the area, jungle, and local life, and great fun. Another important factor was the fact that the company does beautiful and important work n supporting the local villagers and their vast knowledge. Thank you!
Amazing and totally worth it trip! We saw the Gibbons yesterday and we felt so lucky to see them!! TK was very knowledgeable, super friendly, and made the trip so great! It was so cool visiting the village, seeing the locals, and hearing about them. The coffee shop we got to have coffee at, had an amazing view and the rambutan Americano was so unique! 10/10 trip, would totally do again!
What an amazing day! Only 4 of us on tour which was great. Guide was brilliant and very knowledgeable about area, flona/forward and of course the Gibbons. Lovely walks around village and up to waterfall, which was beautiful but the Gibbons were worth the price alone. Truly privileged to see them and share their space. Caretaker was amazing and called to Gibbons and they responded. Could not fault it at all. Go on this tour and you won't be disappointed.
Thank you for the wonderful trip, the opportunity to see gibbons in their natural habitat, and all the valuable information shared about the local plants. The photos were amazing! The coffee made on-site from local beans was delicious, and the service throughout the tour was top-notch. The transportation from the hotel was punctual as well. I'm sending you a big hug and heartfelt thanks for making the world a better place. Hugs, Kamil and Karolina
We had a fantastic day walking through the forest with a local guide learning about the different fauna and flora and about the villagers life. We were fortunate to spot a gibbon too which was incredible. Communication was good from booking to pick up and transportation was good. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly and made us all feel comfortable. I would recommend this tour if you like nature, the outdoors and wanting to escape the town for a day.
This was a fantastic tour! We learnt alot about the local fauna and flora. Suwanus was a very knowledgeable and friendly guide ☺️. I highly recommend this tour. Very delicious lunch. Thank you Suwanus for giving us such a wonderful day.
This was a great tour. The village in the mountain is super cute and the walks through the jungle was beautiful and so educational. Our guide told us everything about the plants they use for cooking and medicinal purposes. She was super nice as well. We went to see one of the gibbons as well and get to hear her singing, it was beautiful. Would totally recommend this tour!
Suwanus is one of the best tour guides I ever han in Thailand. She's kind and perfectly delivers the information and tour services. It was a very complete jungle tour, we were so Lucky to spot a couple of Gibbons in the jungle, learn about Mae Kam Pong history and nature, we had a lovely break between hikes at the best Cafe... Highly recommend it!
Mae Kampong was very interesting and had a guided tour with an elderly woman who lived in the village. She did not speak English but showed us the flora and fauna around the jungle. Walked to the water falls very nice, Had lunch at a local restaurant that was great. All good
Our guide was so happy and fun. She gave us up close experiences with gibbons, and jungle flora. So much fascinating information about the plants and their uses. The villagers of Mae Kampong obviously like her too.
Suwanus was in every aspect a fantastic guide. This started with our communication prior to the trip, and during the trip she was at all times informative, kind and most importantly, not only very knowledgeable about the Thai culture, but also the Mae Kampong people specifically. She could tell us so much about the flora and fauna, which was really interesting and also local purposes for all the herbs, plants and fruits we came across in the jungle. Highly recommend the trip.
I loved the tour, everything was very well organized and the village is pretty and so is the forest trail. Suwanus is really passionate about her job and we left with a different feeling from all other tours we took. I will definitely remember this trip as one of the best days of our vacation in Thailand. thank you!
I can only recommend this tour! Our pick-up was on-time and all other organisational matters were handled perfectly. The thing that really stuck out for me was the fact that our guide had such a honest connection with the village people and the carer of the gibbons. We didn’t have the feeling that the people were educating us for the money but rather that they liked to teach us about their culture and life in the village over time. Also our guide adjusted the time frame to our group. Instead of sticking 100% to the original time plan we were given more time to connect with the group which was so nice 😊 and still we came back on time and with no issues at all and saw everything that was advertised 😁
Phantastic experience seeing Gibbons very clone. Suwanus is a great and kind guide with a very good knowledge of flora, fauna and people around Mae Kampong. I enjoyed the tour very much and can recommend it.
First and foremost - our guide was extraordinary - above and beyond what you would expect - Thank you. We were fortunate to get to the gibbon monkeys - no doubt because our guide somehow knew when they were treated with fruit. The hike, the Mae Kampong village and the knowledge of an addinational local guide on flora and fauna made it a great day. Last but not least - the driver of our little bus was skilled - it flet safe to drive with him
Short, easy walk on well-maintained trail. Our guide was very knowledgeable about local plants and with our contributions she helps out the local community.
It was one of the best tours in Chiang Mai. Golf ( our guide) was amazing. We learnt a lot about Thailand local flora and saw gibbons. I highly recommend this tour. Don't miss it, book in advance as it is in demand.
This tour is so good, Suwanus is a brilliant and knowledgeable guide. Mae Kampong is a lovely village and the trek through the jungle is quite easy-going, and Suwanus pointed out and explained about various plants along the way. Unfortunately, we were not able to see the gibbons but we did see a snake! Tried some local tea and had some delicious food at a restaurant in the village too.
Had a lovely day in the jungle with our guide Suwunus and a local college student. They were passionate about all the different flora in the area and explained the role at least 20 different types of plants play in the overall health of the local tribes people. We didn’t get to see gibbons unfortunately but still had s nice experience. The cafe and restaurant we ate at were very affordable (included in trip price) and delicious
An absolutely excellent tour from pick up to drop off. From the driver with the most infectious laugh ever, through our lovely, knowledgeable guide, to the local village guides and the quiet man who takes care of the gibbons, everyone was lovely, helpful and caring. The drive up is interesting, the village a haven of tranquility. The trek was stunning, and we learnt a lot about trees, plants and herbs. The waterfalls are gorgeous. Lunch very tasty and the coffee stop was in a stunning cafe with great views. 100% recommended.
Fantastic day out with the wonderful Suwanus Y. (Golf). Loved the hike through the jungle and seeing 2 gibbons. We had plenty of time in the village during lunch time, which was great. It was a relaxed day and Golf was very knowledgable about the flora and fauna. Highly recommended.
Such a great trip! Going to ChiangMai I wanted to avoid the elephant sanctuaries and classic hill tribe villages all tourists go to but still be shown nature and local culture. I couldn’t have had it better with this tour! Amazing, utmost friendly, female Tourguide. The highlight for me of course was actually seeing the two gibbons and really Trecking (on an easy level) through the jungle.
I cannot speak highly enough of this Tour. The relationship Golf our guide has developed with the villagers absolutely sets it apart. Local people are included throughout the day to talk about their crafts and skills. Golf’s knowledge of the local flora as cooking and medicinal herbs is extensive. We were fortunate to see the gibbons not all tourists will, hearing the story from the caretaker and walking up to the waterfall through the beautiful jungle is enough the gibbons a wonderful bonus. Thank you Eco Tours I would do it all again
This was a trip of a lifetime. Suwanus was an excellent guide truly connected to the people and the environment. Seeing the gibbons, learning some Thai rongoa, connecting with the caretaker of the gibbons and the village people was so special. Can’t thank you enough.
It was a very interesting and beautiful day with our guide! She had a lot of Information and was very attentive. We were lucky and had quite some time with the cute Gibbonfamily, which lives free in the forest. The people were very welcoming and we felt home rightaway. The guide also told us a lot about the plants and we could try to eat quite a lot of them. In the end we got a great, Thai iunch and the guide also sent us some photos, which she took. We would totally recommend it, also the tour helps the Gibbons as well as the local people there.
What a truly spectacular experience trekking in Mae Kampong, this was a unique adventure with Suwanus who was an amazing guide and passionate about the outdoors. We were unfortunate not to see the gibbon but met the caretaker who is supported through Eco Tours Chiang Mai. The hiking trail is beautiful and is full of life even in the dry month of April, we got to cool off in the waterfall too so I highly recommend this trip if you're looking to escape the heat of the city and knowing that the tour fee supports wildlife as well as the community is an added bonus!
We really enjoyed our trip with Suwanus. She took us to two wonderful waterfalls and to Doi Inthanon and after that to a rural area where great coffee is produced. Suwanus was very friendly, funny and explained a lot about culture and traditions on the way. And on top she took a lot of pictures of us with her camera that she provided to us after the trip. We had a great day and would always come back! Thank you for the very nice day!
A great experience!! Meeting the Gibbons in the middle of the forest is magical. Our guide was great. She took the time to pass on her knowledge about local plants and flowers. Which made the walk even more magical. The meal was also very good. I recommend without hesitation!!
We had a fantastic day and I can only recommend anyone to book this tour! It was very well organized and the timing relaxed without feeling rushed or bored. TK and Golfi are super friendly and open and did a great tour with a lot of knowledge about Thailand, Chiang Mai and the life of the locals there. They were open to all questions and explained a lot. While hiking through the jungle they explained a lot together with a local and we were able to pick and taste a lot of herbs, plants and fruits. And we had the great and rare fortune to see Gibbon monkeys! Just one of a kind! We can only recommend it! Just great!
The tour in search of Gibbons (which we later found) and the jungle walk around Mae Kampong village was an enriching experience and we will take it with us forever. Our Tk guide gave us a lot of interesting information about the flora and fauna of the place and we were also accompanied on this journey into nature by a village guide. If you are in the area of Chiang Mai, I recommend not to miss this truly authentic experience!
Kiváló nap volt! A két túravezető és gépkocsivezető hölgy imádni való! A faluban kalauzoló néni és a gibbonokat etető és őrző bácsi is nagyszerű. A természeti élmények (madarak, gibbonok, óriás fák, ehető és felhasználható növények) felejthetetlenek voltak számunkra. A falu is különleges, bár sok a turista. Köszönjük szépen!
