Our chef, Kathy, was informative and had a great sense of humor. Cooking instructions were easy to u derstand.

Immerse yourself in a full-day Thai cooking experience that goes beyond the ordinary. Your journey begins with a hotel pickup and a guided market tour, where instructors will introduce you to local herbs, spices, and seasonal ingredients. From there, continue to our large organic farm surrounded by rice fields. Feed and hug the chickens, collect their eggs, wander through the gardens, and explore the mushroom hut. These hands-on activities bring you closer to the roots of Thai cooking. In our open-air kitchen, each guest has their own station in a small group setting. With guidance from our instructors, you’ll prepare 7 authentic Thai dishes and 1 refreshing drink. Learn to make stir-fries, soups, and curries, and end with the classic Mango Sticky Rice. A highlight of the full-day course is learning to make fresh coconut milk the ancient way using a traditional coconut grater — a rare skill that few other schools in Chiang Mai offer. After a day of cooking, sit down to enjoy the feast you’ve created, surrounded by rice fields and fresh country air. At the end of the class, return to your hotel with e-recipe, new cooking skills, and unforgettable memories of Thai hospitality.

My Dad and I had a fabulous time with Lavin! He made the experience so fun and enjoyable! I really loved it!
Amazing experience! As a chef, the recipes are great and authentic. I absolutely love the environment that they’ve created. The location is beautiful and taken care of with flowers, rice pads, vegetable garden, fruit trees, hens and fresh eggs. They have several cooking classes, it’s well spread out, very efficient and made easy for all cooking levels. At the very beginning we met a local market where our guide showed us ingredients and explained what we'll be using them for. All of my food turned out great haha
From pick up at hotel to market to class to home. Top notch experience. Our instructer/guide was incredible! Knowledgeable approachable and funny! Always had a smile!
Kiki was super helpful. First we visited the market and learned about the ingredients. A quick drive and we were at the cooking school where we visited the herb garden, made friends with chickens and learned each step of the 3 courses: soup, curry and pad thai. The place is astonishingly beautiful.
This was soooo much fun. We went to the market to buy our food which was so fascinating. The setting of the school is beautiful. The chef was terrific and patient. The recipes were so good and our food came out perfect. This is a don’t miss.
This was so much fun and we made an abundance of delicious food. A great family experience for anyone with a basic level of cooking skills.
Great experience, good transport, good teachers and ate the food that we cooked. We went last year and wanted to return again
Wonderful full day experience! Our instructor chef Levin is very funny and good to be around. He even taught me how to make better prawn & spice up the salad recipe which taste really really good. Well done. And remember to say hi to Lucy 🐓
Simply the best cooking class ever! Having a passion for cooking classes as I’ve traveled the world, I have experienced various classes in a number of different countries. This is simply the best of them all - the market visit, organic garden and the exquisite setting really set the stage for a memorable experience. Our instructor was highly entertaining and knowledgeable about Thai cooking techniques and ingredients. What really stood out was that each participant was able to choose their own menu - other cooking classes have required the group to agree on a set menu. Cooking a menu of my own choice was particularly special. My husband chose a different menu so that we could sample the wide choice of dishes. The instructor kept up with each person’s unique menu and never faltered. I don’t know how he did it, but it was a spectacular day!
What a wonderful day. After the hotel pickup, we started at a market where our guide, Joy, showed us some of the ingredients we would be cooking with. A short shuttle bus to their school site and we were welcomed again by Joy. The site was beautiful with organically grown fruit, rice, and herbs. Also we met Katie the chickens... who provide the eggs! Joy and her team guided us through the days cooking and the meals were lovely. The ingredients were all measured out so we were able to focus on the techniques. It was a very enjoyable day with amazing scenery and great food. I'm now off for a post food coma nap.
So well organised and amazing food. Covers all the common foods and puddings. Lovely cool kitchen - covered but outdoors
We are what we cooked - I ate far too much. Seven dishes in all 🥰 including appetizer, soup, pad Thai, Penang curry, papaya salad, sticky mango rice and Thai tea
So much fun! We did the full day course. We had a blast with Patty making so many amazing dishes. This is an absolute must! Next time we are going to g to try one of the other classes. They really make this such an incredible experience.
I would highly recommend this to anyone staying in Chiang Mai! And the full day was well worth it! The food made turned out amazing and you are definitely full at the end of the day! It was great learning more about Thai cuisine and actually learning how to make these dishes! Kiki also was our instructor and she was incredible!
This cooking class is great ! Its done in a nice big place/garden outside of Chiang Mai (pick-up and drop-off is included), in open-air pavillions. Before going to the farm, you visit a small "market", which seems to be a "tourist market for cooking classes" and not a real market used by locals. But that was no problem for us, as we have been to many other authentic markets. On the farm, you take a stroll in the garden, and see how lemon grass, chilies, aubergines, tumeric, galangal etc. is grown. That was very interesting for us. You then cook in open-air pavillions. Several tasty thai dishes, very well explained, and its great fun. You can choose between 2 options for each course, and there is also always a vegetarian variation, so everybody should get happy. What I like: you cook 1-3 dishes and then eat them, before continuing to cook (instead of cooking everything and then just eating all at once). It is for most people (us included), too much food.
We did the full day course (back at our hotel at 4pm) and we had so much fun. Our chef Bryan was so personable and he ensured that our dishes turned out- calling out next steps with impeccable timing and keeping an eye on how our food is coming along. They use fresh ingredients and much of the recipes are measured out for you so you can't fail. They also have a photographer and they share the photos at no extra charge, which is amazing since you can't take many photos when actively cooking. The intro to thai veggies and herbs prior to cooking was very informative. There were flavors and scents in Thai food that I hadn't been able to identify and my questions are now answered. I finished my coconut soup, pad thai and panaeng curry and had absolutely no room to eat the remaining 3 dishes, but they kindly wrapped everything up for us. 10/10 would recommend 👌
Grandma’s cooking school was a highlight of our trip to Thailand. The ingredients and food were unbelievably fresh. We wandered around the the farm and pulled eggs directly from the chicken coop, all the main ingredients for the curries and stir fry dishes are growing in the garden, even the butterfly pea flowers to make mango with blue sticky rice. We even scraped fresh coconut to make coconut milk for our curry. To top it off, the staff were extremely friendly and picked us up right from the hotel. A must do in Chiang Mai if you love Thai food and cooking.
Whenever we travel, we try to take a cooking class as it allows us the opportunity to recreate parts of our trip at home, learn more about the culture we’re in, and have a fun experience where we get to meet new people. This class is our favorite class we’ve done on any trip. You’re picked up from your hotel, take. On a tour of a local market, taken to their farm-based cooking school, tour the produce gardens, and cook a number of meals. Our group was small - about 10 people total, and you’re given 3 options for about 4 different courses. This allowed my wife and I to cook different dishes and we got to basically try everything. There was so much food, we took a lot back to our hotel and had the rest for dinner. Our instructor was positive and fun, and through a QR code you get all the recipes and more, which we reference often with our cooking at home. We continue to make these meals and they’re so delicious at home too. One of the best things we’ve done on a trip and I couldn’t recommend this class more.
From the moment we stepped foot on the premises, we were impressed by the breathtaking surroundings and the flawless organization. And let's talk about the van pick-up—pure comfort from the get-go! The market stop was an absolute feast for the senses! We explored the vibrant Thai produce, learning fascinating tidbits along the way. And the best part? Tasting those exotic fruits was an absolute delight! We were impressed beyond measure by how easy it was to create mouthwatering dishes. And the best part? Each and every one of them turned out absolutely delicious! It felt like we had unlocked a secret chef within us. Our instructor, Noi, deserves a standing ovation. Not only did she make the cooking process a breeze, but she also injected so much fun and laughter into the day. We couldn't have asked for a more passionate and engaging guide. The cherry on top? The staff's English fluency and warm hospitality. They made us feel right at home and ensured smooth communication throughout. And the kitchen? It sparkled with cleanliness and efficiency, as if by magic. Grandma's Home Cooking School Tour exceeded all our expectations and left us with an insatiable love for Thai cuisine. We gained newfound confidence in our culinary skills, thanks to this remarkable experience.
we had an excellent day at grandma’s home cooking. our teacher ann was great at english and taught us a lot about thai cooking and culture. we got great value from our money. im still thinking about the food we got there particularly the mango sticky rice. i would recommend it to anyone going to chiang mai. there is nothing negative to say.
Super super cool day! I had no expectations for the day, but was very pleasantly surprised. We started by going to the market, where our teacher told us about the many different ingredients the Thais use in their food. Then we had a trip to the school's vegetable garden, where we were also told about all the different plants and collected eggs from the chickens. The school was in the finest surroundings and the whole day was well organised. Our sweet teacher, who was also amazing, was also super good at communicating and explaining in English and taught us how to cook many different dishes. I would definitely recommend this cooking class if you are going to Chiang Mai!
We had one of the most wonderful experiences in our entire Thailand trip by doing this course, it is organised and run so incredibly well and the location is very beautiful
Grandma's Cooking School surpassed our expectations , we had a really wonderful and fun day in the gorgeous surroundings. Joy our instructor was phenomenal, she was very funny and helpful in teaching us how to cook the delicious food. I would highly recommend doing the full day course.
Spent an entire day creating and indulging in spectacular Thai food. We were lucky enough to have Joy as our teacher. She is a gifted teacher and put everyone at ease with her humour and knowledge. A day full of laughs, education and indulgence. The class was thoughtful, interactive, fun and thorough education in Thai ingredients, and preparation of dishes. The surroundings and facilities are beautiful, educational and mindful. Small groups make the experience more personal, intimate and easier to ask questions. I would highly recommend anyone to indulge in this day out. I would do it all over again if I had the time.
Today we were lucky enough to experience the whole day cooking class at Grandmas home cooking school, our instructor Joy was amazing and funny, we learned to make the best thai dishes I've ever tasted and learned alot of handy tips along the way. The local market was a great experience and farm experience was wonderful Joy talked us through the vegetables and herbs they grow, they're smells and flavours, the farm surrounds are just beautiful. The whole day was the best day we've had in chaing mai yet, it was informative and relaxing. Amazing food and company! I would highly recommend this cooking class.
Today I did the full day cooking class with Grandma's Home Cooking School with friends and we all had the best time! I would highly recommend it to anyone coming to Thailand looking for an authentic, fun, educational and delicious experience. Rachael was our guide/teacher and she was wonderful! She was so knowledgable, helpful, friendly, and funny. The tour picked us up from our hostel within the half hour time frame we were given (between 8:30-9am) and we headed to a market outside of the city. Rachael walked us through the market explaining the ingredients we would use and also how to pick out the ingredients ourselves/what to look for if we want to replicate the dishes at home (and what proper substitutes are). We then had time to browse on our own. Next we went to Grandma's Home Cooking School which is an absolutely gorgeous property. Rachael walked us through all the different crops on the farm and explained how they are used in Thai cooking. We learned so much! Then we got to cooking - we were given our menus and had the option to select which dishes we wanted to prepare for the first three courses. My one friend is vegetarian and she was able to select all vegetarian options. Rachael demonstrated how to prepare the meals step by step. We made three courses, starting with a soup, then curry, and finally Phad Thai. At the end we were given mango sticky rice. Everything was delicious! They let us take boxes home of the food we weren't able to finish (we were so full). We arrived back around 3pm with transport directly to our hostel.
I normally wait until after my trips to write reviews, but this one couldn’t wait! I attended the all day cooking class with my family on October 14th. I had such an amazing time at Grandma’s Home Cooking School! First off, our instructor, Joy, was AMAZING! She was very knowledgeable, funny, and great teacher! I would highly requesting to take the class from her! The overall experience was a very memorable one. We did the all day class. The shuttle picked us up from our hotel and took us to the market to meet up with Joy. She walked us around explaining the different ingredients we would be using. Next, we took the shuttle to their farm. Joy showed us around and educated us on different ingredients that they grow and we’d be using to cook our meals. I made papaya salad, spring rolls, coconut soup, pad thai, mango sticky rice, and what I’m most proud of...Panang Curry from scratch!!! It was such an amazing experience and they even gave us a link to all the recipes. I would highly recommend this class!!!
This was the highlight of my trip in Chiang Mai. Loved every minute, from the serene garden, the well organized cooking class, humorous cooking instructor, organic farming ingredients, and a trip to the local market! It was such a great experience! And the dishes we prepared and ate were delicious! Can’t wait to cook them at home!
We had an amazing time with chef Gobby today! The pick up and drop off were on time. The class had a good pace, Gobby was patient and interactive. This was by far the best experience of any workshops or classes we have had in Thailand. The farm and workshop environment were very scenic. The food we made was amazing. Strongly recommend.
My friend is the one who book this cooking class,I have no any information about the class but it turns out to be really fun.Chef joy is the best, she's so funny and make a class interesting and easy to follow (even with a person who do not cook like me hahah).Grandma's home cooking school is located not too far from Chiangmai city(around 20 km) but once you get into the school,I feel like we came very far from the city because its a peaceful farm where the school takes place, all herbs and spices we use for cooking is 100% organic. My first Tom Yum Kung,Phad Thai and Green curry are very yummy(because of Chef Joy recipe not me).I could say joining Thai cooking class at the school is a MUST when you visit Chiangmai.
I know - it is easy to get overwhelmed with so many cooking class options once you get to Chiang Mai - but think no more, choosing Grandma's Home is a no brainer! Me and my husband booked a class with them and we couldn't have made better choice. They pick up you at your hotel, bring to a market so you can learn the difference between the ingredients (even better brands if you want to bring some back home with you) and then you get to a hidden paradise. The farm where the class takes place is such a peaceful environment that you feel like creating roots there as well! We had an amazing class with our teacher Rachel. She went through the vegetable garden with us and showed us the difference between so many herbs and spices that are used in the Thai cuisine. Then, it is your turn to learn how to cook. The class is very easy to follow and it is incredible how you can get to cook such delicious food! SERIOUSLY! If you want you also have the option to bring stuff back home that you have cooked. The farm is 100% organic and even their take way containers are made by sustainable material. I recommend this tour with my eyes closed. You won't regret. :)
it was an amazing experience with chief joy. the environment was very beautiful. The cooking was entertaining. My favorite was 'Pad Thai' and Joy gave 10/10 points for my Curry. I exactly offer this place to visitors.
Grandma's home cooking school was the best part of my trip to Thailand! Mike was amazing, the place is amazing, I can't recommend this enough!
Very enjoyable day with my 8 & 5 year old's, very friendly staff, if you are looking at a cooking a class I wouldn't highly recommend this one . Great set up on the farm, very clean & very professional
We booked the cooking class for 1/2 day since we had never attended one before. I initially chose this because they had Mango with Sticky Rice for the 1/2 day menu but found that Grandma's Home Cooking was just and overall good choice! Mike (our instructor) picked the 3 of us (adults) up at our hotel and took us to the local market where we met up with one other participant, Mirae(?). So we only had 4 people this day (great!). Mike took us around the market to show us the various ingredients used and what his favorites were. He gave us time to look around ourselves. In the meantime, Joy went around to purchase some fresh ingredients for the day. We then headed over to a beautiful organic farm. Just the setting is wonderful. Refreshments were served and we chose what we wanted to create off a "menu". We then we did a tour of the farm looking were schooled on plants we were about to be using. (Special note: It was longan season so we ate the longan right off the trees. Delicious!) We collected eggs from the chickens and walked through the rest of the beautiful property. Refreshments were served again and then we had the cooking lesson. Mike was clear in instructions, all ingredients ready to go, easy going, funny, professional. Our group made coconut & tom yum soup, Khao soi, red & green curry, pad thai, and the great mango sticky rice. We were definitely amazed at the food that we made and full from it all. This cooking class was a great first time experience. The place is absolutely beautiful...I know I said this already...but it was a place you could relax and take in! (Some info Rachael gave us- They do hotel pick up (check locations) because it is hard to find their farm so sometimes it's best you get picked up. We went on a Saturday which was not crowded. On Sunday they were totally full. I hear they are great with kids too.The farm is indeed someone's grandparent and the co-partners came back from wherever they were and wanted to stay close to home, so started the business. They indeed use their grandma's recipes!)
Took a chance and booked the 1/2 day cooking class based on the few review on TA. It paid off and we were so happy with our experience at Grandma;'s Cooking School! First up, the lovely Joy took us to a local market to show us some typical ingredients used in Thai cuisine. Next we headed out of town to the beautiful organic farm where we were shown around the gardens and collected fresh eggs from the chickens. The lush green outlook provided such a calming, beautiful setting for our day. Our teacher, Chef Mike was fantastic! Very easy-going and personable but also professional and willing to assist. He guided us through making 4 dishes- pad thai, a curry and soup of our choice and mango sticky rice. The food was delicious and we were so full after enjoying everything we cooked. The cooking stations were well set up and most of the prep was already done. Tea, coffee and cool drinks were provided throughout our time here. This cooking class was definitely a highlight of our trip to Chiang Mai.
Superb experience, really enjoyed the farm tour and the cooking class. Chef Mike is professional, knowledgeable and very friendly.
I cannot say enough about this amazing, new cooking school in a beautiful rural setting just outside Chiang Mai. One of the owners, Rachael, and our chef, Mike, were outstanding. The setting is on a small farm with an organic garden just 20 minutes outside the city center. You start the day with an informative market tour and then head to the school. Once at the location, you begin by collecting eggs from their chickens and herbs from the garden. They offer refreshments for you throughout the day. You select the soup and curry dishes you would like to cook and eat after you prepare each dish. In total you get various drinks, a soup, pad thai, green or red curry, dessert and Thai tea. I could not imagine more professional or friendly service or a more beautiful setting for this incredible cooking course.
We did the half day evening visit to Grandmas cooking school and it exceeded expectations. The farm is beautiful and it was interesting to walk around and learn about all the ingredients they grow there. We made four delicious dishes. The cooking stations are clean and you don’t have to clear up after yourself. Everyone was friendly and made the experience so enjoyable. Would recommend to anyone visiting Chiang Mai/the surrounding area.
Being in nature brings a new dimension to this cooking experience. Very good teacher and excellent environment. Highly recommended.
Wonderful experience! We really enjoyed our day, it was the highlight of our trip to Thailand! From start to finish everything was absolutely perfect. Mike (the chef) & Rachel (co-owner and manager) picked us up from our hotel right on time around 9 am and took us to the market, where Mike walked around with us and taught us about typical Thai ingredients such as shrimp paste and chili jam. We bought some ingredients and silver bowls to take home as souvenirs, so that was nice to be able to do that while on the tour. We took an interest in some pink eggs we found at the market, called century eggs, a typical Asian foodstuff, and Mike was nice enough to purchase a couple for us to try with our lunch. It's the little things like that really impressed us. We stopped for Thai iced coffee before heading to the farm and cooking school. The cooking school was immaculately clean, on a big beautiful farm with chickens and ducks and all kinds of herbs and vegetables growing. After our welcome drinks, Mike (who speaks perfect English, btw) led us through the cooking of 5 delicious courses. We would prepare a course together, enjoy it on the terrace, then return to the kitchen to prepare the next course. The tools and cooking utensils were sharp, clean, and brand new. Staff comes and cleans up after you in between courses, so you always return to a perfectly clean workstation. I wish I had someone at home to set out my mis en place and clean my station like that! We never felt rushed at all, everything was perfectly paced and laid back. One of my favorite parts about this cooking school is that it's all outdoors, in open air structures (covered by roofs to provide shelter from the rain, of course) so you can really enjoy the beautiful green nature of Chiangmai and the sounds of the birds and frogs. Mike is a great chef and we left with so many good tips and tricks. Also, Mike was really great about answering all the questions we had about cooking, Thai food and culture, and things to do in Chiangmai. I really feel like I have a solid grasp of Thai cooking now, and cannot wait to try these recipes at home. They email you all the recipes you cooked plus bonus recipes, too! Oh, we also got a tour of the gardens and farm after lunch, and got to hold and pet the sweet chickens, which was another highlight. We were dropped off at our hotel right on time at 4:00 pm like scheduled. This would be great for couples, families, or even businesses for team bonding - but we visited as a couple. 100% recommend this cooking class, just do it you won't regret it. Amazing experience!! Thank you Mike and Rachel!
We had booked the full-day cooking class – and it was just the right decision. Everything went relaxed, structured and without hectic pace. The variety of dishes has given us an insight into Thai cuisine. You don’t just cook, you understand the flavours, the spices and the processes behind them. The day was perfectly filled, but never stressful. The team in the background worked quietly and professionally – stations were always cleanly prepared, everything was ready, nothing was missing. That's how learning is fun. Incompatibilities were of course and very carefully addressed. It makes you feel good. A big thank you to the whole team for this fun, relaxed day in a really nice atmosphere. That was all in all.
The cooking class was one of the most beautiful experiences in Chiang Mai for us. The course takes place in a truly dreamlike courtyard – quiet, green and designed with a lot of love. The atmosphere was warm from the beginning, and you feel immediately welcome. A special highlight was our teacher Roger. Not only is he incredibly friendly, but he explains everything patiently, understandably and with a good dose of humor. You immediately notice how much experience and passion he has for Thai cuisine. We were able to learn an incredible amount – from the basics to little tricks that you would never learn otherwise. The ingredients were fresh, the dishes authentic and cooking together was really fun. In the end, we not only had delicious food, but also the feeling that we really took something with us. Absolutely recommended for those who love Thai cuisine or are simply looking for a special experience in Chiang Mai.
Great if you are looking for a cooking course. Transport very well organised. You first go to a local market where you will be given a good explanation about different products. You then arrive at the beautiful grounds where a welcome drink awaits you. Then you go to the herb garden where they make all the products fresh. Instructor very professional. I recommend the full day.
Absolutely recommended in Chiang Mai. We cooked 6 dishes during the full day course. Everyone could individually choose the favourite dishes to cook from a selection of dishes. Our guide explained everything authentically and with great pleasure. The whole organization worked great and you can tell that the team at Grandma’s Cooking School is very well-coordinated. The only drawback: The full-day course was actually scheduled until about 4 pm but we were already finished at 1:30 pm as everything was very tightly timed.
Great experience I liked everything: the setting, the cuisine, the kindness of our guide and chef. A unique moment in a unique place, must do if you are visiting Chiang Mai
Hoooo WOW ! Quelle belle journée d’apprentissage , d’attentions et de gentillesse ! Je vous conseille très fortement cette expédition . Rien de négatif à mentionner
As soon as we entered, we were able to experience cooking class in an amazing landscape and clean environment. It was really nice to have a half-day class in the morning and I could see and hear the explanation from one of the ingredients on the farm next door. Especially our teacher Gobby who worked together from the hotel pickup in the morning was the best. Very friendly and humorous GobbyDuke was able to cook fun even in hot weather! If others come, I would like you to hear from Dr. Gobby. Really strong recommend!
We spent a very pleasant first part of the day with our guide... preparing typical dishes, good mood and many explanations. On the other hand we were disillusioned as soon as the participants of the half day left. We found ourselves alone with the guide who seemed anxious to finish, who gave only a few explanations. In the end, an activity that we would have considered “very good” at half day but for 1 hour more, it is not worth taking the full activity.
