The van picked up us up before dawn, and we drove up to Doi Suthep to watch the sun rise over Chiang Mai. It was a decently clear day, so we actually saw the sun come up. It was really beautiful, up there at the temple, with the birds and cicadas waking up. Then we got a nice tour of the grounds and offered some food to the monks, who blessed us in return. After that, we stopped by two more temples and learned a lot about the history of them and the area. All in all, a great trip and well worth it.

Everything was lovely about this tour. Our guide was super friendly and knowledgeable. She was very passionate in her sharing of history and about her culture with us. The pickup was on time, the driver was friendly and drove very well, and being everywhere so early in the morning meant we missed the big crowds. The temples are gorgeous, and the three were very different from each other.
A very early start, but worth it to walk around the beautiful temples in the cooler weather without crowds. Our guide was very knowledgeable and happy to answer questions. The whole morning was very well planned and the unexpected drop off at our hotel instead of the meeting point for a very welcome surprise
Pick up on time. Thoroughly introduce Ching Mai history and temples
Chatsuda our tour guide was amazing and shared her wealth of knowledge with us on our tour. Getting to see the sunrise from Doi Suthep is stunning and then being involved with the offerings to the Monks is something I will never forget. Thank you for such an amazing tour!
James was amazing! His knowledge and guidance throughout the tour was so appreciated. We had to leave the tour early and he was able to make us see the important pagodas and make our flight on time!
Doing a guided tour during the intensely hot high pollution season might actually be a brilliant strategy! You will have a peaceful and leisurely tour without being squashed and hurried along by massive crowds of tourists. Our tour was awesome. The guide was charming, knowledgeable and proactive in taking photos for us. The phototaking opportunities were abundant as there were few people at the many wonderful photo spots we visited. No crowds, no hurry! You can always capture the best image! We enjoyed the entire visit thoroughly!
Great experience. James was very knowledgeable and nice.
Avi was a wonderful tour guide who was funny and attentive! The group was small which allowed the tour to be intimated and tailored. The agenda was set out well throughout the morning, allowing us to explore each location thoroughly. Even before pick up, Avi contacted us promptly and was quick to respond. He was also very knowledgeable about the history of Chiang Mai, and very engaging to listen to. Avi was the best tour guide we had during our whole trip in Thailand! Overall, we definitely recommend doing this tour as the sunrise is worth the early wake up, and the other activities were worth exploring with Avi providing great history lessons too.
I can’t recommend this tour enough for anyone visiting Chiang Mai. The combination of stunning sunrise views, peaceful temples, knowledgeable guides, and small-group intimacy made it an unforgettable experience. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or returning to Chiang Mai, this tour is a must-do!
Absolutely amazing, resourceful and rich experience with Nuttaya who was extremely friendly, wise and full of enlightenment not only about the temples but the culture, the nature and history of Thailand and Lanna. Definitely recommended! The 4am alarm hurts but it's so worth it, don't overthink it. Lifetime memories in great company!
Firstly, easy to book and the company communicated well about when we would be collected for our trip. Narida was our guide. She was very knowledgeable about each place we visited and keen that we could ask questions. Her English is good - you need to get your ear tuned in for her accent but this only takes a few minutes. Also her English is fantastic compared to my Thai so I am not complaining at all! You start by going to a local market to collect food to give to the monks. Take small notes to pay. It's your choice of what to choose. The majority of the journey is up a steep hill with ever winding bends - take anti sickness pills if travel sickness is a problem for you! You go first to Doi Suthep (pronounced Soot hep). The funicular was operating and this was so much easier than the steps! Your ticket will also cover to take you down if you dont want to walk the Naga steps. Sunrise gets better if you wait - it was hazy initially but then became beautiful to see. It's a beautiful temple but felt a bit touristy without the sense of calm and quiet from other temples we have visited. Then you give food to the monks. It's an experience- you can judge that for yourself! You have time to wander and explore before choosing to walk the steps down or take the furnicular. The steps were an experience but there are a lot! Whilst the furnicular makes this more accessible its not a place to visit with mobility difficulties as there are many steps and slopes. There are market stalls at the bottom of the steps so you can buy a drink or snack before heading off. You go next to the hidden temple. Personally I preferred this temple. It has a sense of peace and connection to nature - much less touristy. You get time to explore here too. Finally to the abandoned temple. This feels different again - a larger generally flatter site with lots of rescued chickens. You walk the tunnels and see the old, very faded murals and see the part (at a distance) which is not accessible since the earthquake caused damage. You then walked up to see the pagoda on the roof. We did get a bottle of water, but its best to take some with you. All in all a good trip with great knowledge from our guide Narida.
This was a great morning, well worth early start! Guide Leela was the best we’ve had so far in Thailand, providing clear & detailed information throughout the tour and with a lovely sense of humour. The temples were magical And certainly recommend visiting early before all the crowds arrive, just so peaceful
This was unmissable and a highlight of our trip to Chiang Mai. Our guide Avi was professional, knowledgeable and very funny. Appreciated all of the additional stories
It was a very educational and fun experience ; our guide Leela was outstanding and very knowledgeable. We never felt rush and the itinerary was very well planned. This is an excellent tour to beat the rush and enjoy one of the most wonderful views in all Thailand from Doi Suthep, as well as the other temples listed on this tour.
This was a wonderful tour! It’s an early start - but beating the crowds and watching the sunrise over the city was well worth it. Our tour guide, Michele, was incredibly gracious and explained the importance and history of each of the three locations we visited. The tour did not feel rushed at all and we had plenty of time to look around at each stop.
This tour is more like a pickup and drop off service. Our tour guide provided basic information about the sites. Meanwhile, there was no clear indication of what to see at each stop and regroup time. The monk’s blessing was perfunctory. Overall, I didn’t experience the value of paying for a tour guide.
We had a great experience and highly recommend this tour, especially thanks to our wonderful guide Layla. Everything was well organized, on time, and the group was small, which made it very enjoyable. We were traveling with a 2.5-year-old child, and the tour was totally family-friendly. Layla was very knowledgeable, friendly, and always happy to answer questions. She explained the temples and their history clearly and made sure everyone felt safe and comfortable. Highlights included visiting the main temple, the Hidden Temple, hiking the Monk Trail, and meeting a monk who blessed us with holy water and a good-luck bracelet. We used the funicular, which was very convenient. Layla created a warm and relaxed atmosphere, and my niece loved the experience. Highly recommended. Don't hesitate to book!
Wonderful tour with our guide Peter! Super informative, fun and took lovely photos. Would highly recommend booking this once in a lifetime experience
We were picked up promptly and driven to Doi Suthep for sunrise followed by two additional temples. It was an early morning, but well worth it! Our guide was knowledgeable, patient and kind.
The Doi Suthep & Wat Pha Lat sunrise tour was an amazing experience. Watching the sunrise over Chiang Mai was absolutely breathtaking, and the early start made it peaceful and uncrowded. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and created a calm atmosphere for reflection at the temples. A perfect mix of nature, culture, and spirituality — highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Chiang Mai!
We very much enjoyed our experience going to Doi Suthep to see the sunrise. We had a lovely guide who spoke very good English. Visiting the 3 places works well as they are so different and being up the mountain to watch the sun come up over chiang mai was very special. We also bought alms to give to the monks there, who then chanted us all a blessing. Only criticism would be that our guide didn't really give us instructions about the alms beforehand so we felt a bit silly and sort of followed others that were there too. We really loved Wat Pha Lat in the forest - so peaceful and atmospheric, we'd have liked to stay longer but at least got a good look round on this trip.
This is a MUST so my favorite thing I did in Chiang Mai. It was early but that also meant we were at the temple before anyone else. Had the place to ourselves. Watched the sunrise and then saw two other amazing temples. Loved our guide. He was kind, funny and knowledgeable.
James our tour guide was so informative. Learned a great deal about Buddhism. Temples were unique and beautiful. Would recommend it.
Wonderful trip to Doi Suthep, before the heat and crowds. Our guide James was excellent and very informative about Buddhism and the local plant and animal life. Highly recommend
Best temple tour of all the ones we did as it had a mix of new and old. Pick up was as described and communication from the guide was excellent.
Amazing experience, our guide boon was great. Really knowledgeable and passionate - had a great morning learning and visiting these sights.
The walk up the hill with the early morning and pre sun rise vibes was one of the most beautiful things I've experienced. My wife and I enjoyed this guided tour as the guide Boon explained us some historical and mythological facts and stories. Every temple in this tour was unique and beautiful on their own. One tip I would suggest is to pick a sweater as it might get a bit cold early in the morning.
This was a lovely tour although due the cloud the sunrise was not the best and it was freezing up the mountain at that time. The tour leader was lovely and informative. If I did it again I possibly would go during the day and not wake so early for the sunrise element.
This tour was great and stuck to schedule as planned. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and entertaining even with the 5 AM start we had.
Our tour was a great experience as it was well organized by our guide James. He explained everything in an interesting and detailed way, thanks to which we gained new knowledge and insights. It was definitely worth it!!
I really enjoyed this trip. Mr. Boon was an amazing guy and we learned a Lot about all the temples, definitely recommend!
Great tour with Avi from TripGuru. He knows a lot and explain very Well everything. You wake up early but it will pay off
The tour is good but could be shorter. The main issue we had was with the tour guide whose English was not enough for us to understand them fully
A great tour thanks to our guide Avi who told us lots of stories! The group I was with was also great! The temple Doi Suthep looks amazing by night
While we had unfortunately bad luck with bad weather, our tour guide was very informative and patient with all our questions. All 3 temples were so beautiful and peaceful.
5 star tour and tour guide (we had Gong/Kong) Though the highlight was the sunrise, Gong/Kong brought it together with her boundless energy, humour, knowledge of the area and traditions She made sure we weren't rushed and allowed ample time She even took us to local morning Street stalls to grab amazing moo ping and khao niaw
James was such a great guide. Very knowledgeable, patient and friendly. Gave us a clear idea of the history of each of the temples, current customs, etc. Visiting early in the morning was also great: lovely sunrise and you avoid the crowds :)
James was very knowledgeable and taught us a lot. He was friendly, had a great sense of humour and we enjoyed the tour a lot. We loved visiting the temples which were set amongst the natural beauty, and seeing everything which was a part of that.
Banana was probably the best tour guide we have ever had during our month spent in Thailand! He was the kindest, sweetest guy who had so many interesting facts about every temple we went to see. He really made this trip an unforgettable experience and I cannot thank him enough! Would definitely recommend this tour, was really interesting to get a glimpse of monk life and see some hidden temples that not many tourists actually go and see. It really makes a difference when you have a tour guide who really knows his facts and we learnt so much from him! 10/10 recommend
Our guide was Nick and I really enjoyed the tour! Doi Suthep is a special place and that sunrise on the mountain left the warmest memories from my last day of the Thailand trip. The tour was very well organized, and Nick as guide is very talented so I sincerely recommend this trip:)
Leo was a very good guide, he explained everything to us about the temple and he was Always ready to answer our questions.
Overall, this was a very good tour. The tour guide was friendly and had a very good knowledge of the temples and the history behind all of them. She will walk you through each site and inform you what to expect and what to do next (e.g., how to make an offering when the monks come out in the morning). The only con is that the guide had a heavy accent, and it was hard to understand her at times. The only negative about this tour has nothing to do with the guide or the itinerary but the last-minute change in pickup location. When I signed up, it gave me a choice to pick where I wanted to be picked up (at a hotel near where I was staying), but the night before, the confirmation told me to meet at the McDonald's 20 minutes drive from where I was staying. I contacted support, and they basically blew me off and just kept saying this is where I needed to go. If they cannot pick me up at that location, they should not have offered it as a choice.
We did the Sunrise Temple tour and it was absolutely worth waking up early. Nick is a terrific tour guide. He is very knowledgeable, funny and overall has a great personality. He also knew the best spots for beautiful pictures. I'm so happy we decided to do this tour!
It was great as a photographer because I got to shoot terrific photos in the countryside that I couldn’t have done otherwise. Loved it. A full day’s worth of fun.
Everything about the trip was smooth, including the pick up and drop off. Honey was our tour guide. She was very nice and provided good information on the sights we were seeing. We loved that we went at sunrise and got to see the sun come up! Would recommend this to others.
The tour was amazing. Though we did not get full view of the sunrise due to the thick cloud, our tour guide, Tib , was very polite and enthusiastic. She shared the monks routine and also teach the guest of flower offering.
I wanted to see some of the famous Chiang Mai temples especially Doi Suthep and Wat Pha Lat, but did not want to dedicate a full day. This trip was perfect to see Doi Suthep, Wat Pha Lat, and Wat Umong in an efficient manner without feeling rushed. I did a private tour, which I’m glad I did so that I could go at my own pace. Doi Suthep is a must-see in Chiang Mai. It was peaceful to watch the sunrise over Chiang Mai from this complex. My favorite temple was actually Wat Pha Lat- it features a stunning, beautiful landscape. Wat Pha Lat was spectacular to see and definitely worth visiting. It was easy to get to the temples having a guide drive me there directly. Doi Suthep is a bit of a drive outside the city, and Wat Pha Lat is similarly a bit outside the city center (you can do the monks trail hike to Wat Pha Lat, but I was told the hike can take a few hours and I preferred going more directly to save on time). Having direct transport to each of them was worth the trip. My guide was friendly, professional, and accomodating throughout the journey. Overall, I am glad I did this half-day tour to see Chiang Mai’s must-see temples.
We did this tour with Athikhom Manutphan aka Mr Banana. That was excellent. Pick up time and location were perfect. As for the tour itself, Mr Banana gave plenty of information and answered all the questions we might have. It's totally worth getting up early to see these location. Thank you. Thank you.
Our guide (Chai) was excellent. Spoke fluent English with an awesome sense of humour. Really enjoyed the trip and his factual detail and anecdotal good humour. We had a great time. Highly recommended.
