The temples we went to were very nice but it takes over 3 hours to get there. To us, it's not worth 6 plus hours travel time for about 2.5 hours visiting. Plus, the drive was like being in a Cannonball race. I now have a new outlook on aggressive driving. The van was tight and uncomfortable considering 6 plus hours of riding. The lunch sucked. On a positive note, the guide was friendly and helpful. We would not recommend this tour unless you real have a deep yearning for temples that were built in the last century.

Itinerary
You will be picked up at your Chiang Mai hotel between 7.00 and 7.30 am. (7.30 - 8.00 am. depending on your hotel location) Let's drive through Northern Thailand’s countryside. You will have a short stop at a natural hot spring and take a break. You can grab a bite with coffee and snacks. Don’t miss boiling eggs in this natural hot water.
Let's head to the Long Neck Hilltribe as an optional tour, and see the incredible length which continues and passes to the young generation to keep their own tradition in the changing world of technology. Please note that guests on different tour options may share the same van. In this case, guests who did not select the Longneck Village option will have some free time while other guests visit the Longneck Village. We appreciate your understanding.
Admire the breathtaking beauty of Wat Rong Khun often named The White Temple. You will see a very unique architecture that stands out through the white colour inlaid work and the use of pieces of glass in the plaster, sparkling in the sun.
This is a striking temple complex combining Chinese and Lanna architecture. It’s best known for its towering 69-meter-high statue of Guan Yin (the Goddess of Mercy), and its red-and-gold 9-tiered pagoda. You can take an elevator to the Big Buddha's head for panoramic views by paying an additional fee (80B) on-site. * This place is included in the itinerary only if you select a tour option that explicitly features the "Red temple"
Baan Dam often called Black house or Black museum is a museum with a difference, as many of the objects are related to death or dying. There are skulls and skeletons, skins and broken eggs and there are some more traditional demons and gargoyles too. There is also, to be fair, some grand scene carving, some furniture, and other collectors' piece. *This place is included in the itinerary only if you select a tour option that explicitly features the "Black house"
Wat Rong Suea Ten called Blue temple takes on the colors of blue and gold, blue representing Dharma in tribute to Buddha

The pick up van was good so also the driver and guide. They maintained the time and there was enough time at each attraction. All the entry tickets were included in the price that made it easy. The major disappointment was the dilapidated restaurant we were taken to and the poor quality food.
Great experience, unfortunately I can't remember our guides name but he was really good and entertaining for the whole journey. Definitely recommend doing this it was such a great experience.
I got exactly what is described. Excellent as transportation service: puntual and reliable. As for the tour guide, she just said two o three things at most. It’s better to read in advance as the guide will not even enter with you to the places.
Excellent tour! I took this August 12, I've forgotten the guides name, but he was very knowledgeable about the history of the temples and the hill tribe women.
The temples are cool but the longneck village was morally disgusting to visit. Children forced to pose for tourists. I would not recommend having your money support that aspect of this tour
Fantastic day, 3 temples, lot of time to relax, take photos, lunch included and sunny hot weather. Thanks
We had a really good day overall. The journey was quite long, but the temples we visited were beautiful and the explanations we received were enough for us to understand the importance and history of each monument we saw. Thank you for this experience!
We enjoyed this tour. The day we went was rainy but that didn’t stop the show. Our driver “Mr. One” was well prepared with umbrellas for everyone. Our tour guide “Yo-Yo” was great at giving information about each of our spots and he was attentive to our needs. The tour itself is beautiful. The white temple was exquisite and the blue temple was also gorgeous. I enjoyed this excursion.
Visited the white and blue temples and the black house. New was a fabulous tour guide and Jack a great driver! Had plenty of time to explore for ourselves but with a bit of info about each stop before hand. Would recommend!
This was a wonderful tour! Chris was an awesome guide and very knowledgeable. Tour ran smoothly and pick up was on time!
This was a great day trip to Chiang Rai. Lots of things to see. The hot springs were very cool to see, also the longneck village was super interesting. Blue temple was gorgeous, red temple was beautiful as well and obviously the white temple was absolutely out of the world. Strongly recommended.
We had a great time on our Chiang Rai tour. Our guide was very patient and knowledgeable. The tour gives you the perfect amount of time at each spot, and you learn a lot. Definitely worth visiting with this tour!
The van transporting us was uncomfortable for 9 passengers especially as there was 7 hours of driving. The guide was not very knowledgable but very pleasant
Earth was a very good and gracious guide very informative. We were very informed every step of the way!
Long day but utterly worth it. Temples simply stunning. Did White, blue and red temples, impossible to pick which best, each beautiful in its own way.
Well organized tour. Guide gave the group the privacy needed. The tour was intense given that we were covering 3 temples and a distance of less than 400kms.
The Chiang Rai Day Tour from Chiang Mai was an incredible experience! It was wonderful having someone else handle all the driving, and the air-conditioned vehicle made the long trip so comfortable in the humid weather. The stops — especially the stunning White Temple — were absolutely breathtaking. Our guide was very kind and friendly, though his English was quite limited, so it was sometimes difficult to understand or ask questions. Still, the overall experience was amazing, with frequent bathroom breaks and smooth travel throughout the day.
The is long the only thing in the van was very uncomfortable for the 3 hrs trip. Very very uncomfortable.
Pretty long trip but totally worth it. Blue, white temples and black museum are really good. The only thing I did not like is that is you choose the option to not visit the Long Neck village; they make you wait at the entrance of the village instead of sending you with a group that is not visiting the village at all and just skipping that activity.
Beautiful and amazing, totally I'll do it again. What a great experience. One of most memorable visit in Thailand
It's a long drive but worth it! Temples are amazing and our tour guide, yo-yo, and driver V were brilliant and kept things running on schedule.
An excellent experience.. Tour guide was 10 on 10 overall it was the perfect day and I recommend everyone to do this White temple tour - totally worth it
Great experience seeing White, Blue and Red temples. We enjoyed this tour. Got to see a lot in the one day tour.
The white temple is breathtaking, but the 6 hours round trip on a bumpy roads feels like a bit of torture session for a 75 years old like me.
Overall not the greatest experience although the actual visiting of 3 temples was a nice experience and the tour company (cookie and our driver) were helpful and informative, the long journey getting there and back took away from the overall enjoyment. Blame the poor Thai roads and take a good reading book.
Our guide V was great. The temples are absolutely stunning. Photographs or videos unable to capture the pure beauty of the white temple. We are so glad we did this tripl
Great trip but horribly uncomfortable in the van I scooted over so 2 others. Old sit in front and lost all legroom. 3 Paris old ladies talked loudly the entire 12.5 hour day. They spoke over the guide and left trash everywhere. The activities were great but no explanation or history given. We just get out and time given to be back for pick up. We saw the same people at every stop as I believe most tours take the same route! Lastly, during hot part of day, air in car sucked. We all were sweating bad. Also, sun beating on me on right side on the way back. Could feel air on person in middle but none on the sides! All those little things make or break an excursion. Just unlucky for me I guess. 1 last thing for all guides. Leave these people there if they are going to be late back to the bus. Omg, why do some ruin it for all. I want to be a guide just to leave these entitled doucebags stuck!
We were first to be picked up and took almost an hour to pick up remaining 4 guests as they weren't ready. Saw 3 temples and the Black House Museum. Got back to Chiang Mai around 7pm so it was a long day. However guide was good and saw some lovely countryside. Long neck tribe was worth a visit too. Got some good photos.
Such a friendly and funny guide who made us feel welcome and listened to all our needs, got to go off on our own at each place which was nice as made it more personal and private whilst still having guidance if needed
The temples and the black museum are nice and worth visiting; however, be prepared for a rather long drive and about 30% of the whole trip spent on sightseeing. The lunch was basic but acceptable; they accommodate vegetarian/vegans.
The tour itself is long and tiring with 3 hours back and forth on non-ideal roads and driving practices. However, the three temples you'll see are worth it and the coffee and lunch breaks make it manageable. Normally, I'd give this tour a good or average rating but in this case, I have to give it a poor rating. The reason is I was seated in the back of a 12 seats minivan with so little space that you can't sit comfortably with your legs straight. Imagine sitting sideways with your legs squeezed against the front seat for 6-7 hours. It was very uncomfortable for an average height person. I mentioned this to the tour guide and but he made no effort to fix the situation and told me to 'not worry'. Sure, I didn't worry and went ahead with the tour but my knees felt so tight at the end of the day. Moral of the story: Make sure you demand a front seat if you're taking this tour.
The tour is great itinerary and the guide was very professional. But, the logistics didn’t help. First, this is not a “small tour group”, as we were two vans. The itinerary says “You will have a short stop at a natural hot spring and take a break.”, this is actually the third one, as the previous two are total of one hour to wait first to the other van in a 7Eleven and the second is a souvenir place, and after 15mins you stop again in the hot spring for another coffee break. Then, not very friendly when you need to wake up at 6am. Lunch place was very crowded, everybody from other tours were concentrated there.
The visiting duration for each spot was a little bit different from the description, but in the end we've found that all the changes were made in our favor. We were very pleased with the guide and our driver.
Thoroughly enjoyed the 6 hr retur n trip, Nut is a great guide, very informative. The White Temple is spectacular and just when you think you've seen it all, the Blue Temple is just as mesmerising. Black Temple which housed Baandam works was incredibly thought provoking, interesting and frightening. Nevertheless it was a wonderful day.
Super friendly tour guide, she was able to keep track of all of us while keeping us informed on where we were and where we were going. The lunch was the best lunch I’ve have in any tour I’ve gone to.
Air conditioned van to travel to and from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai visiting the white, blue and black temple.
The drive from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai is 3 hours each way, so brace yourself for a long day. The temples were all very different and interesting to hear about the history and artists who created them. The black house was unique and different than anything else we have seen on our trip. Long travel day, but was able to nap in the car. Buffet lunch near the white temple was fine, nothing special. Bring or buy water if you drink a lot, the tour gave us one bottle each.
Amy was good, well executed, and informed us about the schedule. However, I don't see much interaction between her and us. She didn't take photos for us, even though it was stated that it was included.
I enjoyed walking through the Long neck village and looking for things to purchase. The white temple was beautiful but very new. I changed my mind and went to the red temple and giant Buddha for scenic views (instead of the black house), and I am glad I did. While it’s also a new temple, the views of the surrounding countryside from the Buddha and the pagoda were worth it. The blue temple is also new and still being worked on. Blue is my favorite color so I enjoyed the change and the creative sculptures. However, overall I thought I should have picked a more authentic location.
Tour was good. Our guide Mr Pom was great, very kind and always giving recommendarions like to try the coconut icecream
The trip from Chiang Mai is pretty long but it might have been worth it if each of the temples and the guide was good. This was not the case however. The white temple is beautiful and interesting and the blue one is worth a quick view but the black museum (it’s not a temple so much as one man’s art museum) could be skipped all together. The guide was also atrocious. The trip says lunch is included which is drastically misleading. What actually happens is once you are done at the white temple your guide gives you 80 baht and you are supposed to go into the adjacent and somewhat small food court and get your lunch. The two issues we had with that were that our guide didn’t tell us this was the deal until 5 min before we were supposed to leave and then rushed us to eat something quick. I could’ve just not eaten but my pregnant wife needed to eat something or she would’ve been sick so it was important that we get something. The second issue was that 80 baht doesn’t even cover one slice of pizza let alone a bowl of pad Thai or any other menu item. Sure it does take care of 75% of the lunch cost, but the problem is that is was never communicated to us by the guide or the Viator trip details. We have done the elephant sanctuary and the cave/kayaking tour through Viator and “lunch included” meant the prepared a meal and we ate at a designated time. If you have your heart set on seeing the white temple then go for it. But if you want to see temples in Thailand go to the old city in Ayuttha. There may be wonderful things to see in Chiang Rai but this tour is not the way to see them. All in all it was 6 hours in the back of a cramped van with a driver that took corners at lightning speed to see something we should’ve skipped. I do not recommended this tour. Save your money.
If you're staying in Chiang Mai, this is the best way to experience these three attractions. First off, our tour guide New, was fantastic. She was passionate about sharing the history about the attractions as well as the people in the area. It was a long day but she was always friendly and very eager to help anyone have their picture taken at the various stops. Second, the drive is long, if you were to rent a car and make the drive yourself it would be a very tiring day trip. Taking the tour allowed us to pile into the van and simply go to sleep until our next stop. If you're thinking of exploring Chiang Rai. This is really the best option.
I have always wanted to visit Chang Rai and thought this day trip would be very suitable for my needs. The hotel pick up was great and on time and the driver excellent. I found it extremely hard, at times, to understand our Guide (who was very pleasant), and found that the group were given the bare minimum of information. Normally on trips of this type you'd learn a lot about the places visited but sadly this was not the case. All told we were approximately 12 and a half hours round trip. We did have rest breaks both going and returning. When we arrived at each stop the time allowed was quite short. I understand that we had a lot to fit in but in my opinion 9 + hours travelling wasn't worth it. Each venue was packed (obviously this is not the tour operators fault) but at times it was very unpleasant being herded through the temples. It was difficult to stop for any length of time to take photos as it was so crowded. Lunch was reasonably good and the food was fine. I wouldn't normally be so critical but I have to be honest. If travelling for over 9 hours for a rushed experience at the venues is your thing go ahead. I recognise that the venues are popular and can be crowded but honestly, for me, it wasn't worth it.
First, the good: This tour takes you to all the places it promises. It's reasonably good value for the money. And now, the bad: The experience was, however, below par. This tour involves a LONG ride (about 2.5-3 hours each way) in a SMALL van that seats twelve people (14 if you include the driver and guide). I, unfortunately, ended up with the single seat at the back and had to share leg space with the wheel well housing, so had to sit slightly skewed. The seats were basic and spartan (forget about reclining!) without so much as a pocket for a bottle of water; as a result we placed our bottles on the floor and they ended up rolling across the aisle whenever the vehicle banked--lovely! Then there was lunch. This was an affiar in an old, dingy and less-than-clean coffee shop near the White Temple. It was a meagre, spartan buffet, and the only thing that tasted half decent was the soup. Our guide, Nut (no, it's not a typo), was decent but not terribly informative as he left us to wander about at our leisure at each destination. Overall, this is not an exprience I would repeat. I understand that for the price, this is not exactly a five-star tour, but I would have gladly paid more for one. To those who are used to the better things in life, you'll absolutely want to give this a miss!
This is a very long journey to see the white and blue temples, the ride was really uncomfortable as the air conditioning wasn’t working well and the shocks were shot in the back. The roads were rough and the drive was long. I personally would suggest spending a day or two in Chiang Rai if you really wanna see it.
All of the sights were amazing but the Blue Temple was my favorite. This trip was made much nicer by the breaks given on the way up and back, The insights given by our guide were also very helpful in understanding what we were seeing especially for the White Temple.
My tour was a fantastic experience from start to finish. Our guide was superb, providing insightful explanations at each stop that brought the culture and history to life. The itinerary was well-organized, allowing us to explore each place without feeling rushed. The provided lunch was decent and rounded out the experience nicely. Overall, everything was smooth and enjoyable, and I would highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting a rich, immersive experience in the region!
I wish we could've had more information about the temples and its history. I was a bit quick but the guide and driver were very kind and ready to respond to all our questions and needs. Still a great day and great trip! We enjoyed having someone show us and taking us to the most important monuments.
Excellent tour with New , our guide and jack our driver. Really narrow streets here so it was commendable. Such beautiful temples and worth the long drive.A+++
