I lucked out. This particular night, I was the only person who booked the tour. So I basically had a private tour guide for the price of a group tour. The guide was great. Tou (pronounced Too) made up a custom route just for the two of us. He showed me all of Chiang Mai in a few hours. We had dinner at a real local part of town. When I was done, I felt like I really saw it all and had a great time while doing it.

Amazing! We had a great time, we tried some amazing food and we visited some cool places! Would recommend!
This was lots of fun and An was a very helpful and friendly tour guide! It was a great way to see lots of the sights of Chiang Mai in one day :)
We had James as our guide. He knew so much history not only about the places we went but the history of Thailand as a country. He was extremely informative. He also took us to a food market where we sampled various grilled skewers and a bit of rice whiskey, which actually was pretty good. James knew all the little back roads and walkways where we rode through town. It was a very nice way to see the town in a more relaxed and quiet manner. The actual bike riding was very easy; if you know how to ride a bike, you can do this tour.
We loved our experience. Our guide Pham (spelling?) was amazing. Knowledge and friendly and interested in getting to know us. I thought the best guide we’ve had in Thailand on this trip. All the stops were great and these were some of our favorite temples we’ve seen. Great food too! Would definitely recommend this tour.
We had a great time, saw lots of the city we wouldn’t have seen otherwise. A was a great guide and really knowledgeable. Hot but easily manageable and much better to do an evening ride
My friends and I are still reminiscing and still reliving the private night bike tour that showcases the best spots of Chiang Mai. Chiang Mai maybe a small town but our private guide Kittie still managed to showcase the amazing spots that Chiang Mai has to offer. Not only was he so informative, so knowledgeable of the history which I enjoyed learning and with an amazing photographer. He was so attentive and so much that we thought we were travelling with another friend, that we managed to do the bike tour within four hours, because we were talking and laughing so much. He is so funny and well done to Kittie for overcoming his fear of speaking English with confidence, he is also so talented that he is the community 'mayor'. I would highly recommend the night bike tour with Kittie, I very much enjoyed the night market, knowing that we enjoyed the banana roti with nutella he went out of his way to get us a second one as well as being a doctor/nurse. Lol Wonderful experience and memories.
We had booked and paid for this months on advance. Due to our tour group having a last minute schedule change we messaged them the day before to let them know we would be late…asking them to either wait for us or allow us to reschedule…no answer or response. By this time it was less than 24 hours so we lost our$. When we asked about rescheduling to 2 days later they quickly sent another options but refused to honor the money they kept. Even a serial credit would have been a good gesture.
Lovely evening spent with Farm ☺️ he shared lots of information with us and made us feel super safe cycling around the city! Thanks for our tour
This was such a fun evening and a unique way to see the city. Our guide Farm was fantastic, he was knowledgeable and professional and was very safety-minded. He went out of his way to share cultural experiences with us during a local festival too.
Was a great experience! Dan(Don) was very chill and most importantly very good with directions. I felt entirely safe. Cause when arriving to Chiang Mai at first the traffic can be a bit surprising. Though no worries cause during the evening it’s a lot better/less hectic and there’s really absolutely nothing to worry about. It’s a lovely activity after the days hot weather and also you get to see streets you would otherwise not wonder around. It was well spent time with good company. I would recommend this to everyone and even those who don’t go biking often.
This was a wonderful way to explore Chiang Mai Old City. We zipped through the back streets, gaining a deeper knowledge of local life, stopped at beautiful temples and ate at a local market. We were catered for being pescatarian eaters. Our guide A was super knowledgeable and kind. Thank you!
The tour was interesting and fun. We enjoyed learning about Buddhist culture and the different temples, and Mr T was a great tour guide. The bike riding was a fun way to get around and see the city.
What a great way to experience the old town. Our guide “T” was very knowledgeable and took us on a tour through the less travelled lanes and alleyways of Chiang Mai’s walled city to see the main temples that were cool, quiet and beautifully illuminated at night. The highlight of our trip was the street food market, where we sat and T brought us all sorts of delicious delicacies to try. The food was included in the price of the trip. Bikes were well-maintained and the seats comfortable.
Gun, our guide, made the whole experience fun and informative. He spoke with enthusiasm throughout the whole 3 hours and we laughed lots. We learnt so much history about Thailand and the Lanna kingdom which was all very interesting. We enjoyed the pace of the cycling around. It was the right amount of time! A great way to spend an evening!
The bike tour was a great way to see the temples around the old town and our guide T was fab! Seeing the temples in the evening when it’s cooler and hardly any crowds around is definitely the best way to do it! The food at the night market was lovely!
Our guide Mr ‘T’ was engaging and made the evening memorable providing a history of Chiang Mai its royal family and of the incredible temples. The night market food tasting was delicious
Too difficult to find. Our hotel and the red bus and the tul tuk could not find it. 2 people did not show up because the directions and address are incorrect. The experience itself was great but only safe in the night time to do and management tried to give me a bicycle without any tread on the tires. Very unsafe. Be careful. Our guide Farm was amazing and the exercise was over 10 km and really great
Delivered as was promised. Great guide, Boy was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Loved the 4hour ride around the old city. Dinner delicious and generous.
Went on family tour on first night in Chaing Mai. Bike standard was good and our guide 'A' was fun and informative. Took in main sites mostly via the quiter backstreets we would never see on our own. Tried some new foods in the night market. Great start to our holiday...
Aimy was amazing - took us all over Chiang Mai old city and into the street markets - street food was yummy & a fruit smoothie to end the evening. Aimy was professional and interesting - told us all about the history of Chiang Mai, we saw temples, monks, all the back alleys - highly recommend it
Brilliant bike tour through Chiang Mai. Our guide was A by name but A+++ by quality. Fantastic guide. Very interesting, lots of fun and a quick guide on local food at the end. Thoroughly recommend.
We had a great evening touring the city on bikes. Our guide was Boy and he was very attentive for our safety. He had a lot of good information and we felt like we learned so much history in the 3 hours we were with him. We especially liked the time at the end at the street food market.
Enjoyed this tour so much. Boy was an excellent guide. One reason I was looking forward to coming to Chiang Mai was to enjoy the food. Not only was it varied and delicious i enjoyed cycling the back streets of the old city which was really beautiful. Highly recommend.
Had a great time on our tour with Boi. He was very friendly and a font of knowledge about the Old City and Thai culture, temples and statues, etc. The cruise through the old city was easy and fun, a great way to get the lay of the land. Night time is the perfect time to do a bike tour, as the streets and temples are uncrowded, and the temps are cool. We finished the night at the street market, and Boi treated us to delicious local snacks. Great tour, highly recommend!
Had a really enjoyable evening bike tour of the Old City. Our guide was Mai, she was great, very informative and kept the kids engaged. The traffic was busy given it was a Sunday evening and the night market was on so being on bikes meant we kept moving. We saw all the main sites, Mai gave us some interesting background on them and we finished the tour off with a stop for some local snacks and fruits. The bikes were all in good condition with helmets and water were supplied. I'd recommend this interesting and fun tour. Thanks Mai and Grasshopper Adventures.
Luckily we were the only two people doing this tour at our time, so a little fortunate to start with, however the tour was flat, easy going and the leader was very helpful and had lots of info to answer all our questions on local history. We were surprised to get a full dinner at the end of the tour also. All in all a great tour and would 100% recommend to anyone thinking of doing one.
My family of four enjoyed a nice bike ride inside the walls of Chiang Mai. Our guide Aimy speaks very good english and was very enthousiastic in educating us in some Chiang Mai history and culture. If in Chiang Mai for only a day or several days, I would highly recommend this trip on the begin of ones stay here.
had a great time on this tour, it was just my boyfriend and I, which was nice! our guide, I forgot his name, was excellent, answered any questions we had, and spoke very well English. We got to see lots of places in the city
Great way to see the city! Our guide, Noi (sp?) was very informative, friendly and even inspiring as he showed us around and provided some interesting Chiang Mai history. Best value and an experience we will always remember.
Great tour- I would recommend for single travelers or groups. It was fun to cycle around the old town area and our guide, Bond, was fantastic! He shared a great deal about the history of Thailand and Chiang Mai as well as the culture. Great photo op’s throughout the tour and a delicious meal of Khao Soi at the end from a street vendor. Two thumbs up!
It was the best night in Chiang Mai we will ever remember! James was our guide and we were so lucky to have him on the tour. His great personality and knowledge for history were everything we couldn't have asked for. We tried the street food that opens almost 24h (They aren't sleeping - James jokingly said to the seller), it was so delicious. Thank you Grasshopper and James for the amazing night in Chiang Mai. We will be recommending this to everyone!
A was a great guide, super friendly and informative. It was cool to see temples at night and of course the food at the night market was great. I highly recommend if in Chiang Mai. Also, it's much easier/cooler to do the bike ride at night than in the midday heat.
I went on both the Chiang Mai night bicycle tour and I liked that so much I then went on the full day tour of the countryside outside of Chiang Mai. Both were great, professionally run operations with the emphasis on safety for the customer. The guides spoke fluent English and were well versed in the histoical monuments and temples. Highly recommended.
I was apprehensive about the bike tour at first, because I was already having difficulty crossing the street as a pedestrian when I arrived in Chiang Mai! Contrary to my fears, the trip was smooth and totally comfortable. At night, the streets are a lot cooler and the breeze feels spectacular. I loved cruising through all the little alleyways in the old town, from the monumental (Phae Gate, Three Kings Monument, Wat Phra Singh) to the quaint residential books. My amazing tour guide, Tanya, took great care of me and provided great conversation and historical context throughout our adventure! She also fed me a ton of delicious and loved-by-locals street food along the way. I ended up being the only person on the tour, but I did not feel short of company at all. If you want to experience all corners of the old town in a short period of time with a local guide, then consider doing it by bike!
This tour was really good fun! Would definitely recommend! We did it on our last night in Chaing Mai and still managed to find parts of the city that we didn't even realise were there! So in hindsight, do it at the beginning of your stay :-D I'm not a very confident cyclist so was a bit nervous, but the tour guides (Gun and Obi) were extremely road safety aware and gave very clear instructions whilst riding, so all was good! We stopped at several points during the tour, at really cool places, cycling down backstreets a lot of the time, passing what looked like some nice bars and restaurants. Ended up in the night Market where we got some food and drink (included). Really glad we did this tour, it ended our time in Chaing Mai on a high. Guides were knowledgeable, professional and funny. Off to Bangkok now where their company also runs bike tours so will probably do another one!! Thanks!
Great trip around the city to important landmarks through main roads and alleyways. Farm was my guide and found him very helpful and professional. The food at the end was amazing! I would recommend this to anyone
I highly recommend this bike tour with Grasshopper Tours. My 12 year old son and I joined a group of 4 others for a 3+ hour night ride, cycling around the old city portion of Chiang Mai - visiting significant locales, learning fascinating history, and enjoying local fare. We had khun Bond for our guide. He was great! and Grasshopper has thought of everything...the bikes were ready with seats already adjusted to individual heights....helmet, lights, even a free water bottle to keep after the tour. Well done! We've lived in Thailand for over 10 years....visited Chiang Mai many times....I learned more about the city in these three hours than ever before. We'll definitely be back for some of the other tours in the future.
Had a really pleasant and informative trip with lovely guide Noi - nice to be in the cool of the evening and the temples were beautifully lit and peaceful to visit. Great insight into Thai history and Buddhist religion and culture from Noi. Recommended as a first-evening-in -town activity. Easy, safe riding and great food to finish - thanks Noi!
We did this our first evening in Chiang Mai and it was the perfect introduction to the city. Gave a good overview of layout and history. I believe we were very lucky to have Gun as our guide. My partner has done this tour before 2 years ago and said that she found Gun to be a superior guide! Gun was not working off a memorised script, he has amazing knowledge of the local area and the people, history, culture, traditions, religions, spirituality and politics. We found out so much about the Lanna Kingdon and Buddhism! He has great interpersonal skills and a fantastic sense of humour. Finishing off at the market for local food was a highlight and his explanation of the food gave us confidence when ordering from street vendors in our coming days in Thailand.
Aimy, our guide, was fun and full of useful information. We had a blast. It was also interesting to see some temples at night, which makes the experience a little different than normal temple visits. The Old City has plenty to offer and you get to see more on a bicycle. Thanks again, Aimy and the Grasshopper team.
Aimy was a great guide. Nice simple bicycle tour of some highlights of Chiang Mai. Got to try some street food at the end (which was included in the price). Nice to see temples with the night lights in the evening with no crowds and much cooler weather. Although you cannot enter at night, we got pretty good pictures of the outside. Aimy, our guide, explained the history well and taught us quite a lot about each site we visited. Pace of bike ride was comfortable, especially for beginners. Safety was great as there was another guide behind to make sure we were all safe. Not sure how a big group would be like as we were in a small group of 4 in total. Highly recommend though!
This is a great way to see the city and time to go as its a bit cooler. I ended up being the only person for the tour that night and had a wonderful guide(forgot his name)Dinner was also included and after the tour we walked to food night market by their office and had street food, which you could choose want you wanted and I choose Pad Thai which was very good. I would highly recommend Grasshopper Adventures.
Cycling at night in Chiang Mai was nice. Our guide is friendly, and we could know more their history and Buddhism with his guide. I totally recommend this tour.
We had another great experience with Grasshopper -- did this same type of tour in Bangkok. It's a very fun, safe and efficient way to explore the old town of Chiang Mai at night, stopping along the way to sample food and drinks!
Being in the evening there was little traffic and we virtually had the sights to ourselves. Seeing the temples lit up in the evening gives one a completely different appreciation for their beauty, and is a must see for any tourist to Chiang Mai. Aom, our guide has an incredible knowledge of the history of Chiang Mai, and was so willing to impart her knowledge and love of the city on us. Her enthusiasm was infectious! We finished the evening with a wonderfully relaxed meal with her in the food market, where she encouraged us to try as many of their different foods as possible. 10/10 - a must do!
As a resident of Thailand for nearly 40 years I must say that our guide Jao was excellent and made our 3 hour trip fun with some nice local knowledge paired with a pleasant personality. Well done. Is recommended by me.
Very enjoyable evening. We did the Night tour and had a very authentic and knowledgeable guide. Riding was easy, bikes were great. Food snacks were delicious.
Jao is a great tour guide. She explains every step thoroughly, doesn't go too fast on the bikes and is very helpful about answering questions to Chiang Mai. I highly recommend doing the tour with her, she is so fun and great to be around.
This tour is an excellent way to explore Chiang Mai. By avoiding the heat and crowds of the daytime, you see so much more. I have learned more from the history and culture than during the 2 days before. Not in the last place, this was because of my guide Jao. She knows a lot and shares her knowledge in an expressive and nice way. She focus on your safety. The last part, eating some very nice streetfood, was fun. It was off-season, I was alone but this was not a problem at all. Thanks Jao! Roy
