Itinerary
We start the tour from Chiang Mai, travelling by road for about 90 minutes.
Start at Mae Kachan Hot Springs, a perfect place to relax in warm mineral waters before heading deeper into Chiang Rai. It's a great stop to refresh before the day's main attractions.
We will get back on the bus for a short ride of about 15 minutes
Your next stop is a hill tribe village, home to the fascinating long-neck Mae Kachan tribe. Here, you’ll witness the unique tradition of women wearing brass rings to elongate their necks, a cultural practice passed down through generations. The vibrant handmade crafts, colorful attire, and welcoming community offer a glimpse into their rich heritage. Visiting this village is not only a visual journey but also an enriching cultural experience, providing insight into the traditions and resilience of this remarkable tribe.
We get back on the road to get to the next destination.
Your next stop is the White Temple, an extraordinary creation by artist Chalermchai Kositpipat. Its striking all-white design symbolizes purity, while the intricate glasswork reflects Buddha’s wisdom. Inside, surreal murals blend Buddhist symbols with modern imagery, making it a unique fusion of spirituality and contemporary art. It’s not just a visual marvel but also a profound experience.
We will stop one hour for optional lunch.
Another short bus ride will take us to the next destination.
Next, the stunning Blue Temple awaits, known for its vivid blue interiors and golden accents. Its mystical atmosphere is enhanced by intricate designs and serene Buddha statues. The temple's modern yet traditional style creates a captivating and colorful experience, with dragon sculptures guarding the entrance and a peaceful Buddha inside.
Another short bus ride to the next stop.
Our journey continues to Hauyplakang Temple, a peaceful spiritual haven known for its impressive nine-tiered pagoda. As you ascend each tier, you’ll encounter Buddhist statues and beautiful carvings. The temple is also famous for the statue of Guan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy, which symbolizes compassion. The panoramic views from the pagoda are breathtaking, making it a highlight of the trip.

We had a 10-12 hour trip from Chiang mai to Chiang rai and did not Know what to initially expect. The coach was great and comfortable. BUT Dee- our guide really had the tour with her knowledge , wit and wonder character. Fantastic. The time at all the stops was just right. We were a bit tempted out at the end but all3 temples were amazing and a must visit. Enjoyed it all x very tired but happy.
Ann was absolutely amazing !! So informative and incredibly sweet. We visited 3 different temples and a village! Everything was efficient and we had time to try delicious food too
The timing and pace of the tour is perfect. We never felt rushed at any of the attractions but it also wasn't too long where we ran out of things to do and had to wait. Kwan was extremely helpful at each attraction. Especially as we were traveling with out 1.5 year old, she always made sure we were OK and directed us to ramps and gates for our stroller. The pad thai at lunch was mediocre but they have amazing drinks. The coconut milkshake was really good.
Had an amazing day with our lovely guide Kavee. She is familiar with the Thai culture and has so many stories to share. The white temple is beautiful like a gem, definitely worth the trip to see it.
The tour itself is amazing and all the temples we’ve been to are beautiful! The most amazing part of it is our guide Ann! She’s so kind and funny. she also gave us suggestions in each stop what to eat or get. she’s very clear with her instructions. I definitely recommend this tour for everyone visiting Chiang Mai! Worth every penny!
I had a wonderful day! Our guide, Ann, was amazing and explained everything in great detail. We visited some enchanting temples and learned so much along the way. The whole experience was fantastic, and I would highly recommend this tour to anyone!
Loved this tour. The air conditioned bus was comfortable. Do not wear white shoes. The long neck tribe stop has a red clay walkway that, when it rains, gets all over your shoes. They do have a feet washing station, but it pretty much dyes everything red. We absolutely loved our your guide, Benz. He gave us so much more knowledge about Thai culture and Buddhist influence than I was expecting.
I booked this trip for my family and I extremely last minute. We wanted to see Chiang Rai, but it was logistically difficult to do on our own in such a short amount of time. This tour was exactly what we needed! The staff was organized, spoke perfect English, and were extremely well-informed and funny. Our guide, Ruby, was excellent and answered all our questions perfectly. She marked the bus, and told us exactly when to come back. We were able to see the long neck tribe village, hot springs, blue temple, white temple, and the lady guanyin temple in just one day! Ruby also went out of her way to accommodate my mother, who has some trouble walking, during most of the trip. Overall, one of the best experiences qe had in the north of thailand. Our guide, Ruby, made this tour excellent.
Dee, our tour guide, was beyond amazing!! She went out of her way to inform and encourage everyone, maximising the time we spent at the temples. Anyone that is lucky enough to have her on board the trip will have a great time! The temples were absolutely stunning, could not fault a single part of the trip (aside from maybe the lengthy journey - can’t be controlled) ☺️
I really enjoyed the tour. Our guide Kavee was excellent and made sure everyone was comfortable, giving us a lot of extra information about Thailand as well as the temples.
The places so beautiful and the guide very professional ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ we enjoyed really thank you so much
We had a great time! Ann was our tour guide and she was amazing! The bus was comfortable and cold! The temples were amazing and breathtaking even though it rained on us we still had a great time! This is a must do excursion when you come to Chiang Mai!
This is a day long trip that includes many varied stops. Hot springs plus long necked ladies and 3 temples. The bus was very comfortable. Our guide Dee was excellent. She was very attentive and provided a lot of historical background.
Kwan was an awesome tour guide! Everything went so smooth and she was very informative. I loved the tour!
A great tour! We were nervous it would feel rushed, but it was well paced and we didn’t feel like we needed extra time at any of the spots. Our guide Nat was incredibly informative and shared with us so much about Chiang Rai and Thailand as a whole. She taught us common phrases, how to count, and even what our names are in Thai! Nat definitely went above and beyond. She is the best tour guide I’ve experienced thus far. The tour is a large group (40 people) but it didn’t feel crowded once we were at the spots. Super organized and a great day trip!
Kwan was very knowledgeable and had a wonderful personality. I would highly recommend this tour; such beautiful temples.
Our tour guide Dee was fantastic. Gave lots of good information and guidance. Helpful with pictures and other sightseeing suggestions. In true Thai fashion she offered snacks, herbal remedies, and generally cared for us! True kalyanamitta!
Great site packed trip. Tourguide knot was very friendly and knowledgeable. Plenty of time to visit each site and still enjoy my day.
Dee was a wonderful guide. She taught us a lot about Thai culture and the northern region and made sure the day went smoothly. She was kind helpful and informative!
Great way to see multiple temples and landmarks in one trip. Chiang Rai is about 3 hours from Chiang Mai so this excursion makes it very convenient when visiting Chiang Mai. Highly recommended!
We had Kavee as a guide and her many years of knowledge, history and passion for all the different locations giving a brilliant inisight of the Karen culture and temples, which greatly enhanced the entire experience. Nothing was ever too much trouble and despite requiring specific deadlines to keep the trip itinerary on time, we never felt rushed (even when people arrived back at the coach a little late). Very enjoyable experience, but as per the itinery suggestions, don't book if you have an evening flight on the same day, as the time window is not cast in stone and can take up to the suggested maximum of 13.5 hours if you have a few stragglers that push the time constraints, which is outside the guide's control.
My wife and I recently took the full day Chaing Mai Chaing Rai trip and It was amazing! Kawee was incredibly knowlegable about the history of Thailand, their hill tribes, the evolution of the culture and religion and could translate this information so beautifully to us in such a clear and nuianced way. Thank you for your love of learning and sharing with others.
It's an amazing trip and our guide, Dee, was the best. She told us stories about Thailand, shared tips on best food.
First time on a large group day trip. Dee our host was super friendly, knowledgeable and fun. Dee haves us lots of treats and informed us the best times to see the sights. The trip run smooth & on time. Highly recommend this tour with Dee. By the way Dee is a great photographer.
G. Kwan was an amazing guide. She gave us a lot of information about the sites, we had a lot of time in each site, she was kind, knowledgeable, and accommodating.
The tour was an amazing experience. Temples are beautiful and absolutely worth the drive. Ruby was a great guide, we learned a lot about Thailand culture and about the places we visited thanks to all the information she shared with us :)
The White Temple is amazing, the Blue Temple is worth seeing. The ethnic village with Karen Longneck women was important for the kids to see. It is better to go as a private tour, takes less time, but the guide provided almost zero information on history and culture, so lower your expectations and read all the information online by yourself.
I've done a similar tour about 14 years ago and while that experience was amazing, the temples now are so much more commercialized now. The White Temple while still gorgeous on the outside and worth the view, within and in surrounding perimeter it felt like added touches of Disneyland within which took away from the overall temple vibe that we were going for. The Blue Temple was our favorite.
Great day trip to Chiang Rai! If you like temples it definitely is a day for you, temples galore! Our guide Nao was very kind and had so much information, tips and knowledge to share with us. Although it is a very long day I would very much recommend it!
This was a perfect trip from Chiang Mai. It was 13 hour day but well worth it. We love the temples. They were so beautiful and the stops along the way we’re very informative. Our tour guide gave us so much information. She really knows a lot about Thailand of course because she lives here. Her English was perfect. My partner had a birthday and we mentioned it to her and she bought him a hat at the white temple, and it was signed by the designer of the hat that was such a pleasant surprise.
Absolutely loved this tour! Ruby was our guide and she was awesome!! Funny, knowledgeable, communicated very clearly and explained everything. The temples are breathtaking like something our of this world If you are staying in Chiang Mai and what to visit these 3 temples I recommend booking this tour! Otherwise doing it by yourself takes way more time
Spectacular, seamless, and absolutely worth the long ride. We did the Chiang Rai Temples Day Trip from Chiang Mai and were impressed from start to finish. Check-in at the Burger King by Thapae Gate was smooth at 7:00 a.m., and the air-conditioned coach was comfortable for the journey. Our guide kept the bus time engaging with clear explanations in both English and Spanish, sharing history, temple etiquette, and practical tips so we always knew what was next. The route is excellent: a short stretch stop at Mae Kachan Hot Springs, then on to the show-stopping White Temple (Wat Rong Khun)—a modern masterpiece where every detail is photo-worthy—followed by the serene, vividly painted Blue Temple (Wat Rong Seur Ten). We also loved Hauy Pla Kang (Big Buddha) with its striking nine-tiered pagoda and sweeping views. Entrance fees and lunch were included and handled efficiently, so we could focus on exploring. There’s also an optional visit to the Long Neck village (300 THB extra); the guide explained it transparently and respectfully so guests could decide for themselves. Organization was top-notch, timings were well managed, and we never felt rushed at the key stops. If you’re short on days in the North, this is the perfect one-day overview of Chiang Rai’s highlights—great value, professional team, and unforgettable temples. Highly recommend Monkey Travel Asia!
Traveling with Monkey Travel is very organized and on time, all the guides are professional yet friendly, happy to answer any question we have and clearly loves doing these tours. The weather was nice and for the 11 hour tour in Chiang Mai, which long but worth it for the price. It wasn't too crowded as well as we were a team of not more than 30 ish people so it wasn't too crowded. Best for solo travelers or groups that want to see Thailand and learn about its culture.
We really enjoy the tour. Perfect organisation and very good guide, its a long way by bus but really confortable and guide explain very interesting things during the way to Chiang Rai. I give them a 10!!!!
Really cool seeing all the temples! I felt like there was plenty of time to explore, though if you want pictures at certain angles at the temples you might need to wait in a queue. I did this on a Sunday which was great because we got dropped off right in front of the Sunday night market after the tour ended!
Amazing! Ruby was great and very friendly with all the group, like a mother always checking on everyone. It feels like home. Sites are increíble and just the time needed for each one.
Great trip visiting all the temples. Our guide was just wonderful and provided us with so much information on the sites. Great day trip.
It was a very good one, well organized; the guide named Ruby was especially friendly, attentive to all the passengers, and treated us very humanely. The places were truly spectacular and interesting
— They left us stranded and then denied their own mistake. We booked an excursion through Viator (reference 1443685913) and, after detecting an error in the date, we requested the change through their own platform instead of canceling and rebooking. The change was validated on our end, but due to a system failure, it was not correctly registered. On the day of the activity, we showed up at the meeting point at the exact time indicated (we have photos with time and location as proof). The bus driver gave no explanation and left us there without being able to board. We had to hire a private driver on our own so as not to waste the day. The most serious part: when complaining via chat, a Viator representative acknowledged verbatim that the reservation was valid for that morning, but later they tried to justify it by saying that "we didn't show up" — something that our photos completely disprove. We offered to use the amount as a balance for another excursion at our next destination (Krabi). They rejected it. They did not accept the cancellation or any reasonable solution. We have had to go to our bank to dispute the charge. If something goes wrong on their part, do not expect them to take responsibility. Be very careful about booking here.
Very nice tour. Well-organized trip
An intense but well-organized day; Dee, our guide, explained temples, history, and traditions to us. She gave us tips and thoughtfully met every need. She also involved my 6-year-old son, Lorenzo. Thank you
Excellent service from the guide, always attentive to every detail and giving us the best advice, ready to offer us suggestions and let us try different products.
Excellent! Good organization, Kabi our guide informed us perfectly of everything. Very comfortable price, 100% recommended from the best tours I have taken so far in Thailand
The guide was excellent, sharing a lot of interesting information, not only about the temples, but also about the culture in general of the country
Organized well in terms of movements but I expected he the guide would also explain the various temples. We were left to our own devices
Must-see your trip in Chiang Mai, but it has become an attraction for tourists in one of the cases.
Great walk. Since there are many stops, the time in each is very running, not giving time to visit everything, especially in the temples. Excellent experience.
Write down your meeting time on a piece of paper and put it where you can see it before you get off. I think it will reduce the burden on the guide if it can be understood by people who do not understand the language. The guide was kind to me. I'd like you to set your lunch time apart from sightseeing.
Very well organized, the visit of the temples is incredible, I loved the architecture, the art , the amenities , it is long in terms of transport but we had a prudent and friendly driver, our guide was very caring for us, ... in short a very fun day
