Itinerary
Wat Phra Singh is one of the most famous and most attractive temples within the walled old city of Chiang Mai. The temple, which is also known as “The Monastery of the Lion Buddha” is an active temple, with many monks and novices living there. Wat Phra Singh dates back to the 14th century when Chiang Mai was the capital of the Lanna Kingdom, and is one of the finest examples of classic Lanna style temple architecture.
Wat Phan Tao is one of the oldest temples in Chiang Mai. The temple's first structures were built probably in the late 14th century. Located within the old walled city, just next to Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Phan Tao is well known for its exquisite Lanna-style 'viharn', the ordination hall, entirely made of teakwood on a stone base.
Wat Chedi Luang, also known as “The temple of the Great Stupa”, is an impressive temple ruin. The construction of the temple lasted from 1391 to 1475. Although the temple collapsed in 1545 due to an earthquake, it was for centuries the tallest building in Chiang Mai. The massive and very impressive chedi (pagoda) dominating the area is its most prominent feature. Wat Chedi Luang is also famous for once housing the Emerald Buddha, one of the most important religious relics in Thailand, which can now be found in the Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok.
Just outside the old walled city center of Chiang Mai, Wat Lok Molee is one of the city’s older temples. The temple that is also known as the Wat Lok Molee houses one of the largest and most impressive chedis in Chiang Mai. The massive chedi was built in 1527 when it must have dominated the area. The chedi contains the ashes of several Kings of the Mengrai dynasty, who ruled the Lanna Kingdom from the end of the 13th century until 1558 when the Burmese invaded the Kingdom.
Chiang Mai Night Bazaar is the most famous market in Chiang Mai, and one of the top tourist attractions in the city. This night bazaar consists of street-side stalls selling mostly clothing and handicrafts. You will also find a wide range of (street)food and snacks at the market. It is here where we will enjoy a simple meal and a dessert. After that, it's time to say goodbye to your guide. You can take a tuk-tuk back to your hotel (not included) or further explore the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar on your own.

Guide was great - we really learned quite a bit about the temples, and the active rituals and practices around them, which was helpful for the whole rest of our trip. Tuktuk drivers were good. Unfortunately, the market was a big let down - the guide just ordered some very unspicy pad thai and fried rice for the group (from stalls that had everything translated in English anyways) with no explanations or information about any ingredients, more interesting dishes, etc. So this very much isn't a food tour and we wished we had skipped that last half hour and saved our stomachs for something more adventurous. If you are truly new to Thai food it would probably be fine.
Great tour - thank you, Nancy! You did an amazing job!
Very enjoyed learned lots of Jane 🙂
Very friendly and shared good information about her country
Nancy was a brilliant guide, providing lots of information and details about all of the temples. Always willing to take family photos and extremely friendly.
Nancy was amazing!!! Great experience.
nancy was so sweet and helpful. we have learned a lot about the temples and history. this was the perfect tour
Our family went on the Tuk Tuk tour this evening and really enjoyed it. We had two tuk tuks between us and had a race between them, which our children loved. Jane was our guide and was full of energy and facts about the temples and the Buddhist way. What better way to finish than at the night market?! We would recommend this tour.
Jane was such a wonderful guide! She gave explanations at every temple and answered our questions! She showed us good options for dinner at the night market too! The tour was so fun and we went on Mother’s Day, so it was an extra special day to go!
It was a great tour in the evening. Nancy was lovely and so informative about the sights and the history of the temples and Chiang Mai. We enjoyed it.
Emmi our guide was incredible. So knowledgeable and kind. Really made our time so special. It felt like family.
Maggie was amazing. Very knowledgeable and extremely kind. Highly recommend this tour and company.
Maggie is a lovely, wonderful guide! The temples look incredible at night and it was fun getting around by Tuk Tuk.
Nancy was incredible! We were very excited about seeing the temples lit up in the evening and Nancy made everything come to life! She had so many insights we hadn't learned yet. The size of the group was just right.
Nancy was an amazing guide, super knowledgeable
Nancy was a fantastic guide, keeping us together, organising photos and explaining all about the temples we visited. A night time trip really is worth it, everything looks amazing. The nightmares was also great fun, with interesting gifts and endless food choice, with Nancy ordering and finding us a table. A great night all round !
Nancy was AMAZING! She shared her enthusiasm and passion with us. Would definitely recommend.
Jane was an absolutely fantastic guide! We have had a few guides on different tours, and she was by far our favourite as she gave the history of the temples without telling a long story we were not interested in. Would highly recommend to anyone!
Great tour with a wonderful guide. Drivers were safe and navigated the city with easy. Guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and looked out for everyone. Beautiful temples at night, great ride though the streets of the old city, and finished at the night market for some delicious food. I would recommend for a nice evening’s entertainment.
Jane was fantastic, the tour was great! Temples are beautiful and food was delicious
Jane did a wonderful job. Such a fun lady full of knowledge. The tour was a delight.
Nancy was a fantastic guide. Very knowledgeable and friendly. A lovely evening if you want to get a taste of Chiang Mai’s temples that concludes at a bustling market.
We had a great time on our tour! The temples were amazing and the tuktuk ride was so fun and a great way to get around to the temples. Jane was a great tour guide. Super funny and knowledgeable!
I booked this tour just 2 hours before its start time and I absolutely love it. Our group was small, only three of us and Jane was fantastic, she told us everything about the temples we visited, extremely experienced and also taught me a few Thai phrases. I highly recommended it
Jane was very knowledgeable! And kind!
We had a great time with Jane! She was knowledgeable and fun to be around. Definitely worth booking! We went to the night market and it was amazing! You won’t be disappointed
Jane was a fantastic guide! Loved doing a relaxing tour with the cooler evening while hitting the major temples. Having been here for a week it was lovely to keep learning new things and having a laugh throughout this tour.
Excellent tour! Tuk tuk driver was wonderful and Jane our guide was excellent! It was also lovely to go at night after the rainstorm. Jane got us great food at the night market as well!
We had a wonderful experience. Jane, our tour guide was fantastic. We had a great time and were very excited to see the different attractions at Chiang Mai. Have no hesitation to recommend this tour. 5 stars from us.
We had a wonderful experience with our guide, Jan. She was prompt picking us up at the meeting spot and patiently took us through three unique and beautiful temples while explaining the Buddhist religion, history of Chiang Mai, and lifestyle of the monks who tend to the temples. She brought us to the Night Bazaar and shared her favorite foods with us while also discussing neighboring countries to Thailand and what it would be like to visit them. She was kind and gentle and we’d recommend this tour and her as a guide to any Chiang Mai visitors!
Wonderful experience with Jane
The Temples and Market Tuk-Tuk evening night tour was very well organised. Meeting place at Burger King was easy to find, within the Old City. Our guide was very knowledgeable and guided us through the main Wats in Chiang Mai. It was really fun travelling around in Tuk-Tuks. After the temples tour, our guide took us to the night market where we had a typical Thai meal. Thank you for the tour.
Chiang Mai is magical at night! Nancy historical and social perspective was knowledge and lovely. We had a wonderful time and she is an amazing photographer.
Our tour guide Ata was awesome, very knowledgeable and super nice guy!
We always get ripped off (at least) once on holiday and this tour was it.....overpriced and under delivered. It would have been so easy to have hired a tuk tuk for a fraction of the cost ourselves. The final straw....when at the food market I was told that I couldn't have my choice of meal as the budget was 150 baht. My choice would have taken the total to 180 baht...so about 60p more!!! For a tour that is clearly overpriced...I found that astounding. The guide also stressed we should tip the tuk tuk driver as their pay is so poor....which we would have done anyway...but I hope Wandersiam gave them a good chunk of the tour money as not sure what else it was spent on.
Overall good experience and value for money. Saw theee temples but it was a bit rushed but that was because we were on the evening tour. Main problem was not being brought back to the start but being left in chiang mai in an area we didn’t know. It was completely safe but a bit disconcerting
Lovely evening in the Tuk Tuk. Great fun. Our guide Saman was lovely. Would definitely recommend!! Unfortunately the Sunday market was cancelled due to the election so we went to a different market and it was very busy but Saman was very helpful ordering and getting our food for us. He also got us sticky rice with mango which was fab!!
We did one of these tours in Bangkok and had such a good experience. Not so on this tour. Warning—you need to pay another 100/person for entrance fees at the temples that is supposed to be included. Then the food. Our guide multiple times just ordered whatever he wanted and not what we asked for, a simple dish of chicken Pad Thai. We finally were exhausted trying to get a bite to eat and just went home hungry and had to walk to our hotel. Very disappointing!!!
Maggie had such a vast range of knowledge about all the temples and her Buddhist faith . Tuk Tuk was great fun . We had to leave the night market early as my daughter was unwell so didn’t get to try the street food . Would recommend this tour , well looked after
Tik was a great tour guide, very easy to understand and educated on the temples and Buddhism. He took us to 3 temples and then to the night market, guiding us expertly in tuk tuks around the city. It was a really nice intro to Chiang Mai and so refreshing to visit the temples at night without the hot sun during the day time.
Guide was very good visiting Temples in the night is s different experience great experience!! Tuk tuk ride was a fun in the night with nice dinner at Night Market!
It was a magical experience seeing the temples at night, while avoiding the heat and crowds. I went solo, but only one other person showed up so it was close to a private tour. It took around 3hrs 30 mins in total, and for the first 2 temples you need to pay the admission fee in cash (50 Baht each). The guide Tik was really knowledgeable about each place and shared very intricate details about each temple, helped us to take photos and looked after us really well. Highly recommended and worth the cost.
Loved my tour guide, forgot her name (it's been a while since I went) but she was the best! So informative and loved seeing the old town by Tuk Tuk. Many temples with so much history. Ended the tour at the night market with a yummy meal. Would recommend to anyone going to the Chiang Mai!
Basically the interests are fun. The only problem is our tour guide could barely speak English or even understand English. It was painful to communicate with him. We didn’t get much info from his talk about the temples 😖
We had a very nice time. I think we probably could have gone to one less temple (2 instead of 3). But it was a fun night activity and a good way to get our bearings in Chiang Mai!
The tour was as expected as far as places to see. The guide had knowledge and was nice however his English was very difficult to understand. It was very hard to follow his explanation…we were 7 on the tour from different countries and none of us could follow ..
If you are lucky enough to get Tik as your guide, you will learn so much about the Buddhist practises in Thailand, and how it has blended world religions.
Waste of money. I asked for a 50% refund but I a am being kind A nice guide vlbut poor English so nobody understood what was being said. No questions or engagement which tells the whole story No info on Chaing Mai. Just the temples and Buda. We were taken to a food market. No explanation about where we were or what was going on. We gave our food orders and once we had our food we were on our own. Some vague info about go and find the tük Tük when you are ready. Very poor. Free tours have to be good and entertaining to get paid. This was money up front so no incentive.
Our tour through Chiang Mai was truly memorable. Our guide impressed us with their deep knowledge of each temple we visited, making the experience both insightful and engaging. Chiang Mai is home to some of the most stunning temples in Thailand, and we were fortunate to explore several of them. The day concluded with dinner at the bustling local market—one of the largest in the city and an absolute must-visit. The vibrant atmosphere, rich flavors, and lively energy perfectly captured the spirit of Chiang Mai. For anyone eager to immerse themselves in the city’s cultural history and unique charm, this tour is highly recommended.
