The tour name is deceiving because we did not receive a tour of the Old City. Instead it was walking into 20+ temples in two complexes within the Old City. The tour guide was friendly and professional. She spoke English; however, she had such a strong Thai accent that it was difficult to understand her.

Itinerary
Built between the 14th and 15th centuries, this impressive and famous temple is known for having the biggest stupa in the city. Besides its towering chedi, Wat Chedi Luang was also once the home of the Emerald Buddha that is now housed in Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok. Get to see the sprawling compound and striking Lanna-style design up close!
Compared to Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Phan Tao will seem quite humble in size. However, don’t let its size fool you! This small temple is made out of intricately carved teak wood. It was also once a throne hall for King Mahotara Prateth before becoming a dedicated house of prayer.
This stunning and lavish building was built in the 14th century and is known as one of the city’s finest temples. With amazing grounds, acclaimed designs, and a mosaic-inlaid sanctuary, there is much to see and marvel at including the large Lion Buddha statue, gilded pagodas, artistic murals, and historical statues.

We had a wonderful time walking through the old city of Chiang Mai. Annie was a wonderful tour guide giving us the history of the old city and the kings who ruled it. She explained to us in detail what every temple signified and the application of Buddhism to the place. I highly recommend you book a tour with this group and you will never be disappointed with a guide like her.
Our tour guide Sunsansee was amazing and very informative. It felt like she went above and beyond to ensure we absorbed as much information as we could about each of the Wats we visited. I would definitely recommend this tour.
Our tour guide, Jackie, was very knowledgeable and passionate about his country. We learned a lot from him and he made sure we had a full experience at each temple we visited. From the name of the tour, I thought we would explore the city more, but we just visited the temples.
It’s very informative and an excellent overview of the history and significant cultural sites in Chiang Mai.
Wonderful! Lots of great info and 3 beautiful Buddhist temples. Bring a hat! For walking in the sunny weather.
This guy knows his stuff. Very informative and knowledgeable ( he was previously a monk). Hyper polite and friendly.
Great experience! Amazing. Very recommended
This was the worst tour that I’ve taken in Thailand and I’ve been on several in 4 years. Guide talked too much and we walked 200 meters in 1 hour 45 minutes.
I bailed out after less than an hour of what was supposed to be a three-hour guided tour. Don’t waste your money. You’d be better off just walking between the three sites in your own time, they are easy to find on Google Maps.
Wonderful experience!! Adapted to kids too! Guide is funny and knowledgable. Must try in chiang mai!
Nana was a lovely guide and kept us company through tour of 3 temples. She also knows the best spots if you want to eat Khao Soi!
Best guided tour I’ve taken. The guide provided a lot of background information about the history and culture, which really helped me understand the current political situation as well. She was lovely, warm-hearted, and very humble. She went above and beyond expectations — instead of just three temples, we also made stops in between, where she explained the structure and layout of the city. An incredibly informative and thoughtful experience.
The temples are fascinating. A good introduction as a taster to visit the other temples in Chiang Mai. Guide was full of information & answered any questions anyone asked. The majority of time is taken at the first temple(where you meet to start). Finding the start point was very frustrating as the map given is incorrect! They should just tell you to meet at the ticket entrance or at 7eleven which is opposite it.
Slower speech. Good work overall, but she could use some additional practice speaking to foreign individuals. She did a good job anyway!
Guide was great. The tour took us to three temples, and we learned about the history of Chiang Mai. Enjoyed by everyone in our group.
Gan was a fantastic guide. We truly enjoyed learning about the Chiang Mai temples. I highly recommend this tour for those who wish to explore the city temples with a guide.
Had Sunny guide me through the history and meaning of the three buddhist temples. She was informative and fun to talk to!
Guide was very knowledgeable and explained a lot about the city and culture. The temples were very cool to see. It was pretty hot outside so she would stop in the shade to talk, so that was nice.
Unfortunately I was late and lost phone signal. But the guide kept me updated. So can't ask for more. He sent photos and sorry I missed it.
Such an awesome tour. My guide knew any and everything about all the temples! It was amazing to learn about all the history behind every place we visited cuz I am a history buff.
This was the best tour I've ever had due to the guide, fabulous Mr. Boon! He went out of his way to explain everything-history, religion, culture... No question went unanswered, and we had many. It was a small group, as advertised, and Mr Boon gave us plenty of time to explore, take photos and enjoy the beauty of our surroundings. The tour was supposed to be 3 hours but Mr. Boon was kind and spent 4 1/2 hours with our group. Priceless experience!
The guide, Khun Nana, was really knowledgeable and conducted the tour in a fun and informative way. I learned so much about the local culture and history, including great tips as to where to eat and get a massage in the city - places where locals go and not just tourists. The short 3 hour tour is a great start to a Chiang Mai adventure. It gives you the perfect basics so that you can either continue to explore by yourself or know which other tours you might want to add during your stay. Really loved Khun Nana as my guide and would book a tour with her again in a heartbeat.
Knowledgeable, patient guide full of anecdotes and information. Through our visit to the temples we were immersed for three hours in the history and practices of Buddhist Chaing Mai.. Such a worthwhile and memorable experience.
Excellent tour led by Nana. A great deal of in-depth and interesting information with plenty of time to wander around each location. 3 hour timing is perfect for this tour.
Boon was such a nice, lovely guide who talked us through all the Chiang Mai information, temple history and some fun bits. We enjoyed the tour so much! 10/10
Watsana is an exceptional and funny guide. We loved our time with her around the temples in the old city. Highly recommended!
Enlightening insights to Northern Thai people, culture, history and philosohies. Thank you Boon, it was truly a pleasure.
The walking tour was fine - the guide showed us around the temples but there just wasn’t much explanation compared to most other walking tours I’ve been on. The guide answered questions when the group asked, but it felt like we were fishing for information rather than her having a talk track ready to go for the places we visited and other cultural/historical insights. There was also some confusion about meeting point - apparently, you’re supposed to buy your ticket at Wat Chedi Luang and meet the group after the ticket booth, but that wasn’t clear to anyone in our group at the start.
Boon was very Well spoken, involves everyone in group and has a good sense of humour. Would highly recommend to any nationality of any age
We booked a last minute temples tour in Chiang Mai as we just arrived and had half day free and we were so lucky as we could take advantage and visited the most important temples with our guide Eee. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and funny. You can see that he is very passionate explaining everything about the places and the culture! Thanks for the tour from the Spanish couple Dani & Maria! Highly recommended!
This tour is a great way to explore the temples, and to understand the history of Chiang Mai. Booncharoen, our guide, was great: knowledgeable, open to questions and clearly loves this city.
Wassana was a great tour guide! She was knowledgeable about the history and culture of the area, and she shared lots of interesting stories around buddhism. She was also very engaging and enthusiastic, which made the tour even more enjoyable. I highly recommend booking a tour with Wassana if you're looking for an informative way to learn about the area.
Far too softly spoken so could hardly hear what was being said. Also limited English language skills. Could not answer many questions. Left the tour early. Would not recommend!
Nick had many great stories to tell about both the temples and the local fauna and we experienced the temples differently than when we visited on our own. The guide spoke great English and could answer any question. We especially liked when he wrote all our names in Thai monk script.
Koi did a great job! Her English was very good and she had just the right amount of details! Blessing at a temple was nice.
Nancy was great. She was very professional, made us feel comfortable, very knowledgeable about the temples, and showed us an excellent time. We learned alot today and I'm very proud we made this booking.
Our trip was very personable. Our guide brought us around the city making note of things that were not necessarily in the itinerary. She explained everything very well!
Amy our guide was fantastic, she explained everything in great detail, we learned far more than we would have if we had just visited the temples ourselves. She was exceptionally friendly, answered all our questions and took excellent photographs for us to keep as memories. We were incredibly impressed with every minute of the tour and would highly recommend the tour to other tourists. Our only upset was we realised at the end we didn’t have enough money to tip Amy what we would have like to as she was excellent. Thank you for giving us a great introduction to our holiday in Chiang Mai. 😄
Super informative tour with Wassana (Nana), was fun! We left quite calmly and Nana was also happy to answer our questions
It doesn't pay off, unless you want to know the whole story by bringing the temples. Hard to find the guide.
Very good, Boon guide was fantastic and very informative. In the end, he still gave us a life lesson. I highly recommend.
Incredible and super prepare driving. We were very happy to have participated and found Booncharoen Thongyou as a guide.
