Very well organized and safety first approach to the tour. Great guide and learnt much more about Thailand and the countryside outside Chiang Mai. Highly recommended for those that love to ride a bike.

This ride was an easy, amazing ride from Lamphun into Chiang Mai via village and country roads. (We rode the train to Lamphun with our rental bikes). Our guide, An, was very personable and friendly and we felt safe at all times even in the hectic areas with more cars! This tour offers the opportunity to see more of the local culture and have fun at the same time. Food at lunch was delicious!
A rather long ride from Chaing Mai but the twin temples were stunningly beautiful. The waterfalls inside the park are also very large and easy to hike to.
We took train for first hour of the trip then visited temples and got to see fields and Thai homes. Pleasant and moderately challenging.
Doing trips in the off season, the fun part is getting a surprise solo trip. I got to do this bike ride just me and farm. He was a great guide really accommodating and friendly. The views are amazing. Some times i was so nervous riding i had to remind my self to enjoy the scenery that i was riding through. It rained during most of the ride but that did not take away how fun it was to still do it. I think the added plus of it raining is that i didn’t have to deal with the heat. But this is the second i have done a bike tour and it rained on us so now it’s going to be my theme travel to do a bike tour and hope it rains on me. Overall the bike ride was easy the hardest or scariest part really is just the start becuase you bike through the old city just getting use to the different side of the rode and bike but Farm was really good at making sure i was good and watching out for traffic. I would definitely recommend if you are looking for something active and seeing a more calmer country side of the area.
This was a memorable day. Following our patient guide as we cycled through little side streets that led to a train station where we took a short ride and officially began our journey. Our first stop was a temple. Very beautiful, I wish we had more time to explore, but it would have taken hours. As we cycled more, the day started to heat up. By the time we stopped for lunch around 1 pm it was hot. Thankfully our guide did have make some short stops for water (provided). After lunch at a yummy local place it was really hot. We cycled for about another hour and stopped in a cute village area for (iced) coffee and shopping, then finished up with another half hour which had one slight hill. Our guide arranged for a taxi (included) to take us back to our hotel. I would definitely do this cycling tour again, however I would leave at 7am rather than 9am to have an earlier finish and avoid the hot March heat. I would also ask the guide if we could stop more. There were some amazing sights that I wish we would have stopped at, instead we past by them. Finally, the route is easy. Flat and very few parts had traffic. There were four of us on the tour and no one used the E-bike function. Anyone in reasonable shape could do this. I left the day, hot and sweaty with an appreciation of seeing rice fields and how the Thai people live. Definitely worth it!
The guide who took us was a very poor communicator and managed the time poorly after we had some punctures and lost a lot of time when he went off to a repair shop which he didn’t tell us about but just disappeared for 40mins. He also had no idea how to change a tyre and no extra spares once we had used the 2 spares so we were lucky not to have any further punctures. My partner changed the tyres in the end. One of the e-bikes also did not work properly. They also mixed the trip with people on e-bikes and people without e-bikes and as the terrain was all flat, the e-bike option was too fast for the non e-bikes to keep up with the e-bikers so we did not use the e-bikes which we had paid extra for. The countryside was mainly unremarkable as we got a train to a suburb just outside of Chiang Mai which really wasn’t that interesting and the cycle through the farmers fields was very dull - flat boring countryside and still built up with new housing estates. We saw a couple of temples but the Guide knew very little about them although he tried to answer our questions but his English was not that good and he didn’t know very much. He took us to a basic food cafe and another place for snacks which were also unremarkable and right on a main road which was very unpleasant - we had cycled past many places in quieter lanes. His choices seemed strange. He asked us what we wanted to eat but when we asked what was available, he didn’t seem to know. On a positive, he seemed a nice enough guy and was trying his hardest to make sure we were safe on the road.
Tee's friendliness, stories about the area and culture, and depth of knowledge. The sites we saw were quite interesting. The entire day was a highlight of our vacation! We wanted a longer ride than just a half day, and this was the perfect length.

In fact, we did not take that tour -- the tour operator informed us that »Unfortunately, we do not have an available guide for tomorrow…« and offered us the same tour the next day. Unfortunately, this was not an option for us as we were flying back to Bangkok next day. Undoubtedly, cancelling the trip 18 hours before the start of the trip -- late in the afternoon, at that -- is not an acceptable business practice, as we were relying on the tour we had booked and had missed out on opportunities to book with another operator. I went in person to the tour operator and complained, and they really helped me with an unexpected gesture: as compensation, they offered a complimentary rental of e-bikes. Thus we were able to do e-bike tour on our own, which proved really “a great experience”. I should single out Chiang Mai staff member Bright who did his best to help us out – he called his boss to arrange for the free bike rental.
We spent the whole day cycling through the beautiful countryside of Chiang Mai. We met our fantastic guides, Khun Bom, and Khun Bank in the morning at the Train station. We are a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 children ages 9&11. We loaded our bikes onto the train and got off at Lampuan. From there we cycled through beautiful villages, rice paddies, farms and countryside. Our guides were patient, knowledgeable and adaptable to our needs. We weren’t as interested in seeing the temples as we have lived in Thailand for many years and have seen many temples. Therefore they used that time to do more cycling and touring through the villages. They were safe and had a lot of guidance and patience on the times we needed to cycle on the busier roads. We also enjoyed a lovely local restaurant for lunch. We can’t recommend this tour more for a family looking to see the lush scenery of Chiang Mai. Thank you Grasshopper Tours you never disappoint!
Palm was an experienced, friendly and knowledgeable guide. We really enjoyed the history he shared and his lovely sense of humour. Can recommend- not strenuous it's a nice way to see the town.
The bike city tour is such a cool thing to do. If you want to know Chiang Mai Old Town better, try the city tour! They will literally take you closer to local people and routes that only local people know! I saw a lot of things I cannot see by walking in the old town! James, our tour guide, is very professional and funny! He makes the tour very interesting, it’s amazing that he can make such good rapport with his costumers within just 3.5 hours! He also explained a lot about Buddhism, because he actually believes it. He gave me so much information within just 3.5 hours. Definitely you need to try it if you don’t mind bicycle!
I enjoyed 8 different Grasshopper bike tours in Bangkok and Chiang Mai over the coarse of my 3 and 1/2 week stay in Thailand. I was only asked to do 2 reviews so I'm mentioning 4 of my guides. Ae (Bangkok), A, Boy, and Farm (Chiang Mia) all led enjoyable outings. Traveling alone it was great to have these excursions led by experience, local, English speaking and friendly guides lead me places wouldn't have gone on my own.
Our leader Fam (sp?) did a great job guiding us through the alleyways of the old city and then the varying street and boulevards of Chiang Mai leading up to a lake in the foothills. Trip was a bit more urban than I expected but even with traffic I felt safe the entire time.
My uncle and I rode with Gun (our tour guide) for the day and found him to be very professional, funny, informative showed us much of the farmlands tasted a lot of the fresh and local foods out of the farms.... had a great day overall on the ride strongly recommend this tour guide!
Our tour guide, Gun, was amazing and made the experience a wonderful day in Chiang Mia! We only had one day in the city and I feel like we got to see and learn about so many things we never would have if we were left to our own devices. Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable about local culture, history and food. Would recommend to anyone looking to make the most of a short time in the city!
Quite a change leaving the busy city, visiting more quiet and green countryside. Excellent mountain bikes!
This was my husbands and my second tour this week with Grasshopper. The bikes are of a great standard and as regular cyclists we were impressed at the easy roll of the bikes. They are obviously well maintained. The Tour was around the Lake cutting through the City both ways was great seeing the University and Market areas. Meal by the lake was our best yet in Chiang Mai, our guide Aei advised us well to get a Spicy dish for me. Aei was very knowledgable about the area and spoke very good English and was easy to listen to. The quality of guide has been consistent for both trips. We were navigated easily through the back streets avoiding traffic. When we were on some of the bigger busier roads at no point did we feel unsafe in the traffic. The company obviously take safety seriously. We have enjoyed the quality of the trips so much that we have booked a private 3rd trip during our stay here and are even considering one of their tour holidays next year. Grasshopper are not the number one trip advisor hit for any other reason than they deserve it.
Great bike trip! Whilst mainly flat it was still challenging at times. Weather was amazing, lunch delicious and plentiful. We were in a group of 6 with two guides. We always use Grasshopper tours now when we travel and have never been disappointed.
Had a great tour today with Puna as our guide. I was a little worried about how our 6 and 8yr old boys would do but they did great. Most of the roads are nice and quite. We visited a couple temples and markets. Bikes are in great shape and comfortable, they were set up for us before we arrived. Everyone gets a free water bottle. Our guide spoke very clear English.
what a great way to see and explore Chang Mai and its environs at a pace where it is easy to appreciate the beautiful old town and the countryside around Chang Mai. The bikes are good and the guide very knowledgable about the local area. You are led through woods and lanes to the reservoir where a magnificent lunch is provided by the side of the lake, this also gave us the opportunity to try many different dishes. A gentle ride back to Chang Mai through rice paddies and fields completes a great trip.
Was a very nice bike ride around Chang Mai. First by strolling to Lamphu and then back to Chang Mai via rice fields and orchards. Super nice guide named Gun; did really well in our small international group.
Regular Grasshopper , another great experience by train and then by bike around Chiang Mai with Monsieur Gun of a great kindness and care with the group. Always very professional, the people in charge called for a second guide given the size of the group and the diversity of levels In the "fast" group, Mr GUN made us spend a great day, after 30 minutes by train from Chiang Mai, 70 kilometers of cycling through beautiful landscapes with stops during which we could among other things taste the many seasonal fruits all more delicious than the last Very nice experience again with Grasshopper and Mr Gun.
I challenged with a friend at Grasshopper in Chiang Mai at the beginning of December 2017 Five New Yorkers, an Irishman, and a German woman named Kei and a GUN guide were soon on an eight-hour fun bike tour that covered 63 kilometers, and the guide was very professional and comfortable. Chiang Mai, the ancient capital of Japan, was somewhat comfortable with the ride. Thank you, GUN.
