This was a great break from several days of sightseeing. The trail is physically challenging as there are several long steeper section to climb. But as our guide told us, you can "hike and bike." Their singletracks are nothing like those in the states, but still fun to try and the views are beautiful, including a very short walk to a waterfall. They give you all of your equipment, including a snack, and the hot lunch at the end of the ride was delicious. It was a great break from the hectic of Chiang Mai. They offer many different rides to match your skill level, so I'd definitely recommend giving it a try.

Highly recommend this ride event, it was a much harder ride than expected but really enjoyable. My guide, Kom, was very friendly and took lots of photos and videos, which were much appreciated. Very enjoyable day and next next in Chiangmai I will join again.
was an unprecedented experience for me, I enjoyed it a lot, very challenging in beautiful mountain views two small notes for improvement, one is that the trail was somewhat dangerous and not appropriate for beginner bikers, risky, and requires physical ability i would expect to be a classification of participants based on experience
One of my favorite activities in chiang mai. Beautifull views, lovely trails and the guides were really entertaining and provided tips and tricks on how to ride. If I go back to chiang mai I will book another tour here!
Outstanding experience. Lek, Kom and Lungchai were experienced and really fun guides. Will be back for more next year! Thanks so much! 🙏
Cycling is fun and a great way to spend time with nice people in the nature! So glad to find Trailhead who really helped us making this a great memory from our trip! Go cycling, it’s fun!!
Did 3 rides with trailhead, Buffalo soldier, fields of gold and smoke on the water, the experience with them was very good, booking was smooth via email communications, snacks, safety protection gear and lunch was provided. Shout out to Kom, Dan and VV and the staff in the shop, thank you for your excellent service. I will definitely book with trailhead when I am back in chiang mai again.
The scenery and freshness of the air up the mountain is worth the trip. Our guide and driver were fun, experienced ,very friendly and safety-oriented. Excellent coffee with amazing view along the way. A must have!. The bikes were very suitable. Recommended.
Spent a day with Trailhead doing the Buffalo soldier mountain biking trip in early July. Have never biked on trails before but wanted a challenge. I will be honest: it was indeed challenging, and I fell a few times, but it was also an awesome way to spend time in the mountains around chiangmai, with lovely views, and a chance to do something different. There were 4 of us, the others being more experienced than I was with mountain biking, Luis and Dan were the guides with us, and Dan in particular stayed with me throughout the ride, to make sure I didn't kill myself haha, while the others went ahead with Luis. I really appreciated that the group was so small, and despite that, that there were 2 guides. Both Dan and Luis were really friendly, giving me good advice about how to ride safely. The bikes were great - well maintained and incredibly light despite their sturdiness. The company also provided personal safety equipment including knee pads, helmets, gloves and elbow pads and also a bag for belongings. Vivi (who crewed the van driving us up to the start point and picked us up at the end) made sure we had plenty of water and snacks such as bananas, apples and really tasty sweet omelettes to fortify us through our exertions. Trip ended with a nice lunch at a restaurant that had a large field with sheep(!). Dan sent pictures to us after, which was a nice souvenir from the trip. I had a wonderful day, and I hope to sign up for other tours with Trailhead when I am next back in chiang mai!
I cannot recommend Trailhead highly enough, do not hesitate to book with them, you will not regret it. After doing Buffalo Solider, I immediately booked and completed the Thriller two days later. On the basis of my experiences on those two days, I am coming back to Chiang Mai in two weeks time so I can do all the other trails they do. I would describe myself as an experienced beginner Mountain Biker who had not ridden a bike for 4 years before doing this trip. My guide on both days was Kom, who is a great host, a skilled rider and a talented cameraman. I was very apprehensive at the beginning of the first day but Kom's encouragement and assurance built my confidence throughout the day so by the end, I was feeling pretty confident tackling fairly technical downhill stretches. Kom kept an easy pace and stopped frequently checking that I was alright, he gave me options to do an easier route when the difficulty level increased, which takes the pressure off but also give you the opportunity to challenge yourself when you are ready. In addition to a great day of tiring riding, the Trailhead team had prepared everything I needed for the day which included a top-of-the-range full suspension bike, a helmet, knee guards, gloves and a rucksack containing water, fruit and snacks. Both days ended with a stop off for a fabulous lunch (included in the price) at two great venues to sample famous local dishes. Throughout the day Kom was constantly taking photos and video of me which he professionally put together and sent to me to keep; now that is 6 star service. I must also give due credit to VV (pronounced Vivi) who provided an exemplary service as the support team with transport, advice and first aid after I had a little mishap and scuffed my arm. If that wasn't enough, VV hand-wrote me a list of things to do and places to go in my next destination and even took me to the bus station to help me buy my ticket there! I have high expectations whenever I do something like this because I always try to do research and book following a recommendation, so I can assure anyone reading this, that Trailhead do not have a 5 star rating for nothing. You will not be disappointed!
I did 3 tours with them. On the 2nd one I had an accident and I was taken care of better than you would believe. The accident happened early in the ride so they said they would give me another ride for free to make up for it. The bikes they provide are better than ones I own. The guides are passionate about biking and your having an enjoyable experience. I spent the most time with Lek who had recently returned from enduro riding in Nepal. I loved hearing his stories and riding with him. I had to go to the hospital and their office manager V picked me up at my hotel and walked me through everything and their insurance covered all costs and she even took me to her favorite pad thai restaurant and then we got some interesting deserts. Can't recommend them enough.
Definitely suggest Trailhead to anyone who wants to bike while in Chiang Mai. We had a great experience from going through their tour selection and picking a ride, to the day of riding itself. We rode Buffalo Soldier with Kom and had so much fun! The ride is a mix of (minimal) pavement, both single and double track. The bikes were in great shape and they even offer a small day pack to use if needed for water and to fit your lunch. My husband and I would book a multi-day with them in the future hands down.
I maybe had a little too much confidence in my mountain biking ability seeing that I hadnt been on a bike in over 10 years but it seems like a cool thing to do when I was in Chiang Mai. I booked Buffalo Soldier and was the only rider that day (thankfully). When we arrived at the top of the trail I was met by my guide, sorry I cant remember names it has been a couple weeks and my memory is terrible. He gave me a very thorough rundown of the bike and everything to check for safety and comfort purposes. The bike was top of the line and in excellent condition. I soon realized that it may have been longer than I remember since I had even been on a bike let alone mountain biking but soon we were off. The ride was alot of fun and alot of different terrain, I struggled through various parts but my guide was awesome at taking breaks at the right points and helping me out. I was exhausted at the end of the ride but had alot of fun. The service overall was excellent. I was surprised to find out that they would take gopro video and pictures for me included in my package price which was great. The lunch was also good and we stopped at an awesome viewpoint to relax and eat. Even the service after the ride was great, they opened up a coconut for me to rehydrate while being dropped off at the hotel. Everything they did seemed to go above and beyond what I expected. I would highly recommend booking through them.
The tour was absolutely fun. The guide and his staff are all super nice and very helpful. The pickup worked great, have had breakfast in the cafe with super delicious coffee. From backpack to schooner get everything. The bikes are just awesome, YT and Chiang Mai, what more could you want;) the trails are really great and the scenery very awesome. Everyone got water and wine lunch box. After the tour we were greeted with fresh coconuts, which was really good, then we ate together in a restaurant and were driven home again. If I am here again, I will definitely ride tour again:)
Booked the Buffalo Soldier day tour at the end of October. Although I was the only participant, I was not cancelled (I have experienced this differently). Great tour, nice guide (once more thank you Lek), who can do what on the bike but also answered questions about plants, animals and the surrounding area. Due to the rainy season, the tour was technically quite demanding - at least for someone who otherwise rides on the road but quite manageable. Everything else is well and extremely nicely organized (trying on the protective equipment/ setting the MTB/ transfer to the starting point and pick-up after the tour / communikatiom in the store (the coffee is also very good!) ..... Highly recommended! (I will book there again in January!)
