Great few hours outdoors exploring Chester and spotting things we never noticed before. Liked the flexibility and doing the activity in our own time. Hope to try out the other city options. Highly recommend.

Itinerary
Treasure Hunt Chester will take you on a beautiful route, and send you to fab places, all at your own pace. Because it’s all on your phones, it’s super flexible and there’s nothing to print. You’ll have a laugh solving the clues and following the maps. Something in a shop window catch your eye? No problem. Take it at your own pace. Even turn it into a pub crawl! Along the way you’ll learn interesting facts and stories keeping you entertained. By the end of it all, you’ll have a great overview of Chester and what you’d like to explore next. It works like WhatsApp, so it’s easy to use. You don’t need to download or print anything and it doesn’t need any permissions. Plus, you get to start when you want. Captain Bess will invite you and your friends to join the hunt. Bess sends you a series of treasure maps to your phones, leading you around the city, and a series of clues, so you have to search the city for answers. Don’t worry if you can’t find the answer right away, you can always ask for hints. Along the way, she’ll tell you interesting facts and stories about the things you’re spotting.

It was amazing would truly recommend !!
Really well organised. Informative and great fun. Shows hidden/unusual features of the city
Lovely tour of the city with some great puzzles to solve.
Had a great day following all the clues and saw lots of Chester and found lots of new places to visit at a later date. Having to pay per person makes it a bit pricey when you only really need one phone for the clues but it was a great day. Would do another one in a different city but would take a power pack next time.
Absolutely brilliant!! We got to see so much more of Chester and learn so much too. The kids absolutely loved it too!!
Brilliant way to discover Chester. We had great fun trying to solve the clues set by Captain Bess. You really do need to look high and low to find the answers. Well pitched. Can’t wait to do another.
Really good fun. An excellent way to see Chester. It was great fun. A lovely way to spend time with friends
It was brilliant! Fun adventure with head scratching puzzles, we've got to now the city of Chester better with this activity. 100% recommend!
I have done a few of Captain Bess's trails before and they are always fun. I like that you can add friends to the chat so it's a collaborative effort to input the answers right, rather than only one person having access to it and being responsible for it. Will definitely do more trails as I visit other cities around the country
An awesome day out around our home city to take in sights and secrets that we had never seen before. A great family activity to bring new adventure and fun for, in our case, two adults and a 9 year old. Thank you for making these great online trails, we loved it.
We found this whilst we were looking for dog friendly tours of Chester. It was really good value and so much fun. It took us to places in Chester we would never had gone and taught us loads of things about the city, its Romans, the Cathedral and so much more. Highly recommended for a fun and enjoyable way to learn about somewhere new. We will definitely be looking it up for the next city we visit.
Absolutely brilliant - just the right length (around 4 miles) as one of us can't walk too far. No need for prior knowledge of Chester but we learnt lots about the city. So good that I've recommended it to a friend who is coming in May. I would contact you if you do others in other places?
Great way to see different parts of Chester some clues tricky but we really enjoyed it
We had a fab time, some of the treasures were easier to find than others. It was also a lovely tour around the centre of Chester, with some tips on places to stop for refreshments. We learnt a bit too. I would recommend this.
As well as getting to see parts of Chester that we would probably have missed if just wandering around the quiz got our brains working and made the day really fun
At £15 per person, it was expensive for what it was. Some of the clues were a bit obscure, especially around the cathedral. However, it was an interesting way to find the hidden gems of Chester and to point out things we would otherwise not have noticed. There were a couple of suggested refreshment stops en route and it would have been nice if they offered a discount to weary treasure hunters (only the final stop did this).
Great fun interesting and a good easy walk around Chester. Some clues could be a bit clearer but all in all a good few hours of fun.
Really great day out. Took us to many places that I never knew existed. So interesting, informative and enjoyable. Would definitely recommend.
A wonderful hunt for clues around Chester, taking in many of the historic parts of the City that otherwise you would just walk past without noticing. The logistics and way to play were simple to follow making this a really fun adventure.
Loved this. The clues were challenging but manageable. We had a good wander around. Chester and saw things were probably wouldn’t have seen otherwise. You have the flexibility to take your time & we stopped several times and ended up finishing on a second day. Thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely look to do another one in a different city.
Great way to explore the city, learn, engage brains and get some exercise in, great idea, 5*, highly recommend to see a lot of places in a short time window 👍
I completed this treasure hunt today with my family and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I am a teenager and I think any ages would have a good time doing this. I totally recommend this for anyone in the future and it’s a lovely way to spend hours with loved ones. It’s a good way to visit lots of interesting and historic places in Chester and learn lots of facts about the history of this lovely city. It took us 4 hours all together as we stopped halfway for lunch, which was a good way to have a break from all the walking and fuelled us up. I totally recommend this treasure hunt!!! - Ruby
This was fantastic!! Did as a small group for a birthday trip around Chester and thoroughly enjoyed it. We’re regulars in Chester but the hunt showed us lots of places that we hadn’t seen before, you’re able to do the hunt at your own pace stopping for a few drinks and food along the way.
A great way to explore a new place! We saw so much of the city that we would have missed without the treasure hunt and we learned interesting facts as we went along.
Having completed the York treasurer hunt we decided to purchase the Chester version. Really enjoyed both and seen lots of areas of both cities that we wouldn’t ordinarily go to or see. Some fascinating facts along the way made this adventure really enjoyable. Would definitely buy more for other cities as we visit.
Really fun to Explore Chester and see parts I’d never been before. It was great to have 6 of us all looking at the same clues on our phones. Only problem was the signal kept dropping out so there was a delay getting your next clue, however we all had different networks so someone always had the clue before we all caught up! Great idea!
Really great hunt, you get to see all of the places and things that you would usually completely miss. Clues were excellent, hints were really useful and information about the area was brilliant. The one and only issue that we had was internet coverage.
An amazing tour through Chester city guessing the steps of the puzzle in the most iconic places. The bad 4G signal in the city makes it genuine to stop searching for clues on the internet
Really good fun and made us see the city in a different way. We learnt a lot about Chester's history and were taken to places we wouldn't normally go.
Great way to explore the city- challenging at times but the hints helped😊 Loved the way it made you look more carefully at the surroundings and took you up alleyways which we would never have found otherwise. Explored the city in some depth. It was fun and we all really enjoyed it. Thank you
We had a lovely day exploring Chester with some friends. The treasure hunt took us to areas we never would have found, with a great mix of history, nature, and cultural areas.
Great for a family trip. A good few hours spent in the fresh air and saw lots of things that I hadn’t realised were there despite having been to Chester many many times in the past. Well organised and clues gave a decent challenge.
The clues kept our kids engaged with looking around the city and took us to some buildings and areas we would never have found
An interesting walk around the city centre and walls. We managed to solve most of the clues fairly quickly with just a couple of occasions where we had to retrace our steps. An enjoyable way to see the city with plenty of opportunities to stop for eating and drinking.
Such a lovely and interesting way to explore Chester. Fantastic experience, so organised and very well done. Would definitely do it again!
Excellent experience, especially for discovering new parts of the city that we didn’t know, despite having visited many times previously. Level of difficulty for solving the puzzles was just right - enough challenge to be interesting but not frustrating (plus you can always get hints),
I thought I knew it all in my home City of Chester, how wrong was i lol. Visited places i never knew where tbete are saw things in plane sight I'd missed for years. A fantastic way to spend a day.
Found this online and wanted something different to do with the family. We usually choose bowling or an escape room but fancied something that lasted a bit longer and stumbled across this experience. Our choice was Chester as it’s the nearest to where we live.Really good value when you compare with other activities. Found it easy to use and very well organised. The clues were testing and not too easy. The clues sent us all over the city centre and we saw things we had never seen before. And shortcuts we didn’t realise existed. One thing to remember is you have to think outside of the box when trying to solve the clues. My two grown up sons were a bit sceptical about this activity but actually they both had a great time. If it was a bit warmer we probably would of incorporated a couple of pub stops but as it was very cold opted for a warm coffee instead which subsequently was bought from a cafe in the park which again had never knew existed. Would definitely do another City great fun!!
From the offset this was a great value and well organised experience. I booked for 16, and knew there was the option to change the numbers or even cancel at short notice if needed (eg if the weather was really bad). In the end due to illness 10 took part, and when I let the company know, the money was refunded straight away with very efficient email communication, which was reassuring. The intro pack was useful and just what was needed and easy to understand. We did think the leaderboard was going to update as we went rather than just at the end but that’s not a problem (but maybe worth explaining in the intro pack). The responses when we asked for hints/ submitted incorrect answers were clear and helpful. The length (just over 5km) was fine, a pleasant walk round Chester and it was useful showing easier routes to avoid steps/ steep hills for example if needed. The clues were ok for groups of adults and groups of teenagers - being at the right level. It took about 2 hours. It was good to have some historical facts / sites as well (that locals didn’t know!). It would be useful to know at the start maybe how the scoring is carried out- time vs number of wrong answers vs numbers of hints, but not the end of the world and made the adults less competitive maybe not knowing. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon, look forward to trying one in another city. Thanks! Lyndsay from Chester
Great fun day out we loved it and found the clues fun and challenging with the directions easy to follow. Highly recommend as a different day out
Great fun bit of team building. Plenty of reasonable "refreshment stops" too. Presence of Christmas Market added to the fun, although one early clue was a little tough to find... Would recommend highly.
Seeing all the historical landmarks that I wouldn’t have seen otherwise. Plus having a fun time with my family.
The technology worked pretty well throughout the hunt, although right at the end it stopped working for all of us - frustrating. The route was well chosen and interesting but we thought some of the clues were too hard, children got frustrated
What a great idea, we have been to Chester numerous times, however saw so much more with this game. We had a couple of older children with us as well. Great fun for the whole family. Will definitely be looking to do this again in another city.
Found places I’d never been before and some of the clues were quite challenging, great fun and great way to explore the city
The best way to explore the city of Chester. It was far more interesting than just wandering around as you get to learn so much more about the buildings and the history of Chester. We got to see bits of the city we would not have seen and visit a beautiful church we would not have found ourselves. We will definitely be doing more treasure hunts in other cities we visit in the future
Really fun, my Italian friends loved it, it was right up their street as they are quite competitive and we saw most of Chester along the way
Really good, fun way to spend an afternoon. I have now done two different treasure hunts and you get to see so much more of a city than if you were to just wander round by yourself. Well worth doing, looking forward to the next one.
Really enjoyed doing the treasure hunt as part of my hen weekend! It was a fun way to explore Chester and some hidden gems we wouldn’t have known about otherwise. We started a little late and had to stop on the first attempt but were able to carry on and finish the map the next day which was handy. Would definitely recommend, make sure you wear comfortable shoes though!
