The smell was awful! The local farms are muck spreading. The smell inside was unbearable and the windows and doors were kept open, even after asking them to shut them. Good food but the methane smell became unbearable. Probably best avoided during mid to late September.

Stayed for one night recently. Great bar with a good selection of beers. Great food, friendly staff and nice clean rooms. What more do you need!
We've eaten here 5 or 6 times in the last year & have left feeling very satisfied with the quality of food, the value for money & the excellent service. Masses to choose from on the standard menu plus a specials menu which changes monthly. We enjoyed two perfectly cooked rump steaks, a delicious tempura plaice dish & and an equally pleasing sea bass dish. I must also mention the chorizo & chicken scotch egg starter which was exceptional. We sat in the sunshine on the patio with beautiful views of The Callow & Corndon Hill. Great selection of beers too, including my favourite Wingman. If you are passing it is a must to call in but why not make the trip out for some countryside fayre anyway....you won't be disappointed. Top marks to the team at The Lowfield.
We stayed here from Friday to Sunday while attending a nearby wedding and had a lovely stay. As we weren't expecting to arrive until around 8:30–9:00pm on the Friday evening, I contacted the hotel in advance to let them know. They asked if we would like food prepared for our arrival, which I thought was a thoughtful touch, although we had already eaten. When we arrived, they checked again to make sure we had eaten, which showed how attentive and welcoming they were. We stayed in the Cockerel Room, which was spacious and comfortable. The room had a double bed with bedside tables and lamps on both sides, along with plug sockets and built-in USB ports. The ensuite bathroom had a shower and towels were provided. The room was well equipped with a table and chairs, mirror, kettle, cups, mugs and glasses, along with tea, coffee, hot chocolate, sugar, milk and biscuits. There was also a mini fridge, which was useful for keeping drinks chilled. In addition, the room had a sofa bed, an additional sofa, TV, clothes rail with hangers and a full-length mirror. The TV signal wasn't the best, but I imagine that's due to the rural location. On arrival, we were asked what time we would like breakfast between 8:30am and 10:00am, and we were given a form to select our breakfast choices. The cooked breakfast options included sausages, bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms, baked beans, black pudding, toast and eggs cooked however you preferred. Breakfast was excellent. There were condiments and butter already on the table, and a selection of small juice bottles available to help yourself to. We were also given our own bottles of milk and orange juice. Tea or coffee was freshly made for us, and there was cereal available while we waited for our cooked breakfast. We were also given a key for the side entrance, which meant we could come and go even when the pub was closed, which was very convenient. Check-out was at 11:00am, giving us plenty of time to get ready and pack before leaving. The process was very simple – we just left the room key in the door when we departed. Overall, we had a wonderful stay. The staff were all incredibly friendly, welcoming and helpful throughout our visit. We would definitely stay here again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others.
My in-laws come here often. In summer, The Lowfield has a lovely beer garden. During winter, we enjoy the festive, cosy inside seating. The food is delicious; great quality and the service is top notch!
