This hotel is a great little find. The staff are very friendly and the pub has a really nice atmosphere. We were offered a free upgrade to the suite was was a beautiful room (just needed a little bit of titivation with a few broken tiles, wallpaper lifting in places and the shower pressure wasn't very strong), but it was lovely and clean with a lot of space and situated at the back of the hotel. The food was another level....absolutely gorgeous and so tasty. We had starters and mains. The breakfast in the morning did not disappoint either! One of the best full English breakfasts we have had! Will definitely be staying here again.

I booked a room recently at The Eccleston Arms. We arrived late evening after a long drive from our home in Oxfordshire for a family funeral. Upon entering the room we discovered that the heating had been left on full blast (level 5) which seemed strange considering the temperature had been fairly warm during the day and that it wasn’t remotely cold outside at the time of our arrival. As the room was unbearably hot we had to open the windows to try and cool down the room. This was really frustrating as we just wanted to go to bed as it was after 10pm by the time we arrived to our room. As I tried to open the blinds I noticed the top part of the blinds were very dusty and the blind on the left window didn’t work properly and it was impossible to put the blind down completely for privacy. As we tried to get ready for bed we also noticed the toilet roll hadn’t been replaced despite being almost used up. It’s not very pleasant to think another guest has used the same toilet roll and this really ought to have been replaced with a fresh toilet roll. As my partner got ready for bed she went to use a towel only to notice that there was someone’s hair on the towel. Once we finally got to bed we found the pillows to be incredibly uncomfortable and were unable to lie comfortably. The final straw were the speakers which were located outside, just below our window. Whilst I appreciate it is a pub and it is open till 11PM it was really frustrating to have music playing loudly when no one was sitting outside and it was a Wednesday evening with only a few people at the pub. Considering we had travelled up for a family funeral, this was very distressing and we had no choice but to book another room at an alternative hotel to try and get some sleep as we were up very early for the family funeral. As you can imagine considering the reason for our stay it was very upsetting to spend £500 on both bookings as a result of our poor experience at The Eccleston Arms. When leaving the hotel we tried to speak to someone but no one was about so had to leave the card with a waiter who said they’ll pass it on. I emailed on the 2nd October and followed up on 13th October but have had no response. Not even an acknowledgment of my complaint. I’m not keen to leave such a review as I appreciate how bad reviews can affect a business but it’s so disappointing to have such a poor level of service from The Eccleston Arms, particularly as it’s useful having a place to stay near to family but it’s clearly very poorly run when it comes to operating as a place to stay for the night.
The service for food and accessing the room was lovely BUT to be notified in front of other customers that my card was declined although the booking was made ... pay at property was both stressful and embarrassing. The room was initially presented as lovely but closer use indicated the bathroom was needing attention both from cleaning and some shower safety issues The service staff for good were amazing. The location once accessed from the multiple roundabout ... not the location issue, I am from the country, was superb.
The Eccleston might not be on many people's route, but was ideally suited to my purposes and easy access to the places I wished to visit. The room was excellent, clean and well stocked with all your needs. Staff were all friendly and helpful and made me welcome and felt comfortable. Great breakfast and food menus for other meals. The choice of food was a welcome change from standard pub grub, but some regular favourites were also available. Great prices for room and food amounting to great value all round. I would definitely stay here again. Thanks to all the staff.
