Mercure St Helens

Booked this hotel specifically for the pool to be told it was open on check in and we have free access to the leisure facilities. We were really excited to have a relaxing swim after a 4 hour drive, we waited to go for a swim, got ready and went down to be told it is shut for maintenance. Really disappointed as we could have gone out and done something else with our evening.

Nice enough hotel, rooms are fine but could do with a bit of a tidy. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Weddings on most weekends in summer so expect that but it's not really an issue if you're just staying there. If you're staying there with some free time, have a walk to the glass museum nearby, that's interesting.

A good hotel, probably the best in the local area. Well maintained, clean. The bar and restaurant are both good, with reasonable prices . The staff are friendly and helpful. The only negative is that the car park is franchised and the registration machine is awful to use - luckily there's usually a QR code near reception to allow you to register by phone. Recommended.

Do not waste your breath on this place. The staff have no manners, no customer etiquette and cleaning staff enter rooms without permission when you’re not checked out for another day and have a baby sleeping in the room……yet they have the audacity to accuse you when you ask why rooms where not serviced saying you were sleeping inside. It’s surprising to think that staff are entering in to rooms without permission and then this is put as the customers fault. Furthermore they charge you for a hour late checkout when the baby is sleeping and you informed them about this. Save your money, time and holiday
