Cathedral Quarter Hotel - Derby

Lovely hotel in a very central location. We booked a Sunday night bed and breakfast. The parking outside is very limited, so its a first come basis, overwise there is paid parking on the street. The interior is beautiful. The reception and staff were all very friendly with a smile. Our room (5) was on the ground floor which was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was a full English with a good side of continental option. Overall, a brilliant stay, no complaints. Thank you.

Fine if you’re on a budget and just need a place to sleep but it’s well past its prime. The building, an old police station, is full of character but that is the only thing going for it as everywhere looks tired and worn. Our room was okay and slept well but that could’ve been down to how much I drank at the wedding we attended. The bedding was clean and the room cleanish but the shower was in need of a thorough clean - there were some unidentifiable specks of white gunk and blood on the tiles and the water pressure was pathetic. The water from the sink tap randomly cut out and restarted, and the water from the shower head, at times, had less presence than a brief summer shower. There were scuffs and marks over the paintwork and skirting boards, and all of the furniture was scuffed and worn. We gave breakfast a miss based solely upon the physical state of the place. It did the job for one night but I would not stay here again which is a shame as the location is excellent. The online check-in was pointless as we went through it all again at the desk, as was the online check-in out as it said to settle our bill at the desk when we had already paid up. Great mosaic in the entrance way though.

The hotel building is impressive. Apparently it is a former police station! The original decor is fantastic- stain glass windows and wooden panelling. The staff are very friendly and professional. Our room was fine for the money especially as we had breakfast included. The breakfast room is another gorgeous venue. Added to this is the hotels proximity to the city centre. The only downside is the very limited onsite parking. I hope we can come back for another stay soon.

Stayed here the night before a wedding, We checked in with a short lady with Glasses who was very helpful and friendly. She also was the staff member for breakfast in the morning as well. Parking was no problem they had space right out in front of the building. We stayed in Room 1 nice room plenty of space for the 2 of us and very clean! The only things I picked up on were the marks on the carpet and the back of the bathroom door needed more attention plus no shower pressure. The room is a bit outdated however this goes with the character of the building. I didn’t sleep well, heard staff in the hallway at around midnight messing about and the bells chime every half hour so if you’re a light sleeper don’t book here. The front desk isn’t 24hour which isn't great in case of an emergency. Breakfast was a bit disappointing continental which I don’t have a problem with however it needed more options such as pastries,fruit or more of a cereal selection. Orange juice was from a juice box (child size) definitely chose because it’s cheaper however shouldn’t be in a 4 star hotel plus doesn’t show the price we payed for the room & breakfast. They did have an option for a cooked breakfast as well. Check out is at 11am however we talked to the lady at front desk and she had no problem with us checking out an hour later leaving me time to get ready for the wedding.
