The tour was really worth it. The food was delicious and there were plenty of it. Also grabbing beers from nearby stores as we hop from one restaurant to another added a fun to it, as well as the tuk-tuk drive. Our guide Chris was really helpful and attentive to everyone and gave us little presents at the end. Chinese wine tasting was really a surprise in a cutest little bar. All in all, good food, nice tour.

Itinerary
There are a million reasons Chengdu is an international food destination. It’s a UNESCO city of gastronomy. It’s the most popular Chinese cuisine in China. It has the highest per-capita ratio of restaurants in all of China. And at the same time, visitors know very little about food in Chengdu. Travel by tuktuk and encounter spots you could never find on your own for a mix of street food, sit-down restaurants, and family-run joints: Chengdu Street Crepes: This classic local street food comes in one of 4 flavor profiles: sweet, salty, spicy, and strange at a street-stall-turned-shop. Sichuan-style Wontons: Learn why locals call them “Chaoshou,” at a family restaurant where they’re made to order. All the Noodles: Originally served on the street by men who carried the ingredients around on bamboo poles, Dandan noodles are possibly the OG hawker dish. Classic Sichuan Dishes: Sample local delicacies like Mapo Tofu (there’s plenty of not-so-spicy dishes here too).
End the night trying house-made plum wine in a 70s-80s themed bar that captures a unique turning point in China’s history. The bar is a 10 minute walk to the nearest subway station.

The tour was fantastic, taking us to some local spots via tuk tuk (with a cold drink in hand) to have some simply amazing food! Places I would have never been able to discover without this tour. The dumplings were my favourite (might have been the best I’ve ever had). Our host Claire was exceptional, providing commentary and insight, making us feel so welcome and comfortable, and being incredibly friendly! Seriously do this trip if you are in Chengdu.
Our food tour in Chengdu was excellent!! We visited places we would never have gone to, and tried dishes we would have never tried, without the tour. It was exactly what we were looking for. There was also plenty of food and drinks, we finished the tour very very full. Our tour guide, Claire, was also fantastic. She was very knowledgeable, very friendly, very helpful and great to talk to for the night! She definitely made the tour even better! Would recommend this tour to anyone.
Claire was our guide for the Chengdu lost plate tour and was great at explaining everything and organising us. Its a great way to get to try a lot of different dishes and go to places that are traditional, local and serve really great food. The 5 places we visited were all different. Claire explained about the restaurant history and food. A great evening, loads of food. The tuktuk was fun as was the whole evening. If you like food I'd recommend a lost plate tour
Our tour guild Claire was great, she was funny and very chatty. There was plenty of food involved and beer if you wanted. The tuk tuks were great and added to the experience. All in all we enjoyed the experience.
Fantastic tour with Rose. The food was excellent and all the meat was of a good quality (we were quite worried having had a few very gristly meats in our solo attempts). The TukTuks let you move between various spots in Chengdu with no hassle. The tour provided more than enough food / drink for the group and Rose was happy to accommodate or answer questions throughout. We also received a set of stamps, post card and gift bags at the end. Highly recommend if your visiting Chengdu.
Fantastic experience. Lots of different foods to try. Tuk Tuk experience - lovely tuk tuk drivers. Guide Heaton was great - so friendly and kind and full of great knowledge and passion for Chengdu food. Felt like we were out with a friend. The other two women in our group were fun too. Lots of laughs. Highly recommended
Outstanding night with Clare. We tried some amazing local dishes at many varied sites. All delicious...even the rabbit head. We had a lively group and the locals included us in their drinking games. It was very memorable and highly recommended 👌
It was super great, thank to Chris for this great tour
A great way to experience Sichuan food, including for veggies! Chris was a friendly and informative guide, and the tuktuk drivers were also friendly! Lots of different foods to try, and you end at a really cool bar too! Definitely wouldn’t find most of the great spots on your own!
The local food introduced were really nice and I greatly enjoyed the local snacks that were introduced. The Hawthorne win was very nice when we went to the local bar as well. The food were too much for my tour group to handle.
Great food tour that gave a flavour of local cuisine with a knowledgeable and friendly guide. As a vegetarian I was finding China quite difficult to find places to eat, so decided to go on this food tour that offers veggie options, and I got a nice range of dishes to try. It was a nice evening with a group going to restaurants that I wouldn’t have otherwise found.
Fabulous tour works highly recommend. Airis our guide was fantastic and went out of her way to make sure we had a wonderful time. The tuk tuk drivers were excellent and very skilled in navigating the Chengdu traffic. Food was just delicious.
This was a very good, and filling, food tour. We had 5 different stops and traveled by Tuktuk. The tuktuks were a little cramped with 4 per vehicle but got us around effectively. Plenty of high quality food with the last stop being plum wine in a bar. We had 10 participants on our tour. Everyone was very friendly. Our guide, Fiona, spoke very good English and did a great job of explaining the food plus local culture. She was very energetic and personable. Highly recommended.
Explored some fab local spots with Heaton last night - who was a wealth of knowledge and lots do fun. Loved getting around in the tuk tuk! Great range of spots, particularly loved the dumplings! Highly recommend.
Delicious food, really knowledgeable guide. Thank you Claire!
Chris was an absolute legend, he was so friendly, such a good chat and was so informative. This was my first food tour and not something I would normally consider but Chris completely changed my mind. The food was amazing, the tour was lots of fun and this was a highlight of my trip. We got some souvenirs, unlimited drinks and further reccomendations for our trip. This tour is a MUST if in chengdu!
Fiona was an awesome guide! We had a great time with her on the food tour and ate lots of delicious food. There was 1 small hiccup with some raucous drunk locals but it was all good in the end. Certainly not enough to spoil what was an excellent experience however!
Fantastic experience! Gave us an opportunity to try a bunch of local cuisine while explaining the origins of the food…. All while cruising around town in a wicked tuk tuk! Admission Fee seemed expensive before the adventure, but we got lots of food and drinks so afterwards we think is was very reasonable! It was a good length of tour, ran at a good pace! Our guide was awesome! She was very knowledgeable, friendly and enthusiastic! We plan on doing more lost plate tours in other cities now!
Fiona was an exceptional guide. Her extensive knowledge and humour made the experience highly enjoyable. The food was delicious with a versatile range of flavours. It is recommended to arrive on an empty stomach as they are generous with food and drink. The service was exceptional and Fiona ensured that every aspect of the experience was worthwhile.
So must fun and dekicious food. Very good guide and we visit some very cool foodplaces you would normally couldnt find. Just go!
We had a great experience with Fiona who took us on a 5 stop tour. It was the perfect length and were well fed after tasting a variety of food. We went from stop to stop on Tuk Tuks and Fiona made sure our kids allergies were taking into account at each stop, Highly recommended.
Amazing food tour of all the highlights of Szechuan cuisine. Our guide Fiona was attentive, knowledgeable and super friendly and helpful. She accommodated food allergies in our group, making us feel safe to enjoy the delicious food. The plum wine stop at the end was a wonderful experience and the teens in our group loved the interactive venue. The tuk tuk drivers were also great and helped us cover a lot of ground. All in all a great experience and highly recommended!
Monica was an amazing guide. She was so friendly and good to talk to, and we ate the best food of my life. Thank you so much to her!
This was a wonderful food tour led by Monica of Lost Plate! Many food tours are done on foot so you can only cover a small area but as we were traveling by tuktuk (which was a great experience in itself), we were able to cover more ground and go to places that specialised in that dish. We went to 4 places and tried over 10 dishes...as they say "come hungry!" We had many local snacks (and Monica kept the beers flowing), before stopping for dinner at a very local restaurant that I would never have spotted. By then, I was so full I couldn't fit another bite. The evening was full of conversations, not only with Monica, but also with our fellow tourists. Then we finished the night off at a gorgeous retro bar where we sampled some local drinks before we said goodbye. Definitely do this tour if you want a little local insight to the most popular dishes in Chengdu.
We had the most incredible food tour with our guide Fiona! This was our third food tour with this company having previously gone on a tour in Beijing and Xi’an and we have loved it each time! This tour was even more amazing due to our guide. Fiona was so kind and friendly! Throughout the night we would check in on us to make sure we were enjoying our night or needed another drink. She was so fun to talk to and honestly felt like a friend we’ve known for a long time. The best food tours company I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing in each location!
Amazing food tour! Fiona was an amazing guide made the night so fun!
Amazing tour- thank you so much Fiona!! You were absolutely amazing and made the tour so fun. Would highly recommend a tour with Fiona in Chengdu!
Monica was so knowledgeable of the food and the area. As a local, she showed us places that I would not feel comfortable finding on my own. Such a wide variety of food and flavours. The tuktuk adds to the ambience and small group feeling.
A fantastic experience trying the best food from around Chengdu! Took you to some amazing places you never would have gone without the tour. Chris was an amazing tour guide and made the experience great for the whole group. Would highly recommend to anyone travelling to Chengdu!
Great tour with authentic food throughout and a Monica was a great guide. We did the full day Panda visit, fly restaurant, tea house, and evening food tour. Having a guide take us around the Panda research center was necessary because the center is huge and if you don't speak Chinese, knowing where to go and which route to take saves times and ensure you see the highlights. The fly restaurant and the tea house where authentic local places that we wouldn't have found on our own. The evening food tour was made quite fun with the tuk tuk and the food variety and flavor was excellent.
Fiona went above and beyond to educate us, accommodate everyone’s needs, asked the right questions to make sure we were cared for perfectly. She even stayed overtime to teach us maj, give us advice on travel, educated us on Chinese culture, helped us order at the bar even though the tour ended, and ensured we had a safe ride home. She treated us like family. We learned so much from this tour and got experiences we wouldn’t have otherwise.
Second tour with this company. Both have been excellent.
Monica was a great guide and host. She was friendly and knowledgeable. We travelled around Chengdu in tuk tuks visiting some really interesting places. We samled foo thanks for d and venues we would have never found on our own. Thanks Monica for a great night.
We had a fabulous tour with Iris our guide. Secret local destinations which we wouldn't have found otherwise. Plenty of food and unlimited drinks. Generous with any choice of beers. Included Baijiu and plum wine. Would definitely recommend
Chris was an excellent tour guide and we had a great time talking to the other folks on the tour with us! Great food, helpful explanations, and very good with dietary restrictions and allergies! Chris was very knowledgable, kind, and helpful! 10 out of 10 would recommend!
Fiona was very informative helpful and listened to everyone’s questions. We had a lot of fun.
This was a fantastic experience. Our first food tour and it was so good we will do tours like this again, ideally with Lost Plate. The food choices were excellent options and plentiful. My husband is vegetarian and this was catered for without fuss. And we got plenty to drink. Iris our host was really informative and engaging. And she got the group we were with in good spirits.
We had a fantastic experience with Lost Plate in Chengdu. Our guide, Claire, was an absolute delight whose enthusiasm was infectious. She shared helpful, interesting information about each dish, and all of the stops were thoughtfully organized. It was a perfect sample of a cuisine that was largely new-to-us. Plus, the TukTuk rides were a total blast and provided a unique way of seeing Chengdu. I highly recommend this tour for those interested in immersing themselves in Chengdu's food culture and learning more about the city. Thank you, Claire!
The food is excellent, local specialities, great locations, excellent guide. Five locations chosen for their unique experience and expertise. Delicious food at each one. A well organised, super friendly, veey knowledgeable guide in Claire, a Chengdu native. The tuk tuk drivers are also fabulous, thank you Mr Tho. They navigate the road with ease. Lost Plate do amazing tours, this is our second food one and third overall. If in South East Asia do one of their tours, they are excellent.
I've done quite a few food tours and this is probably one of the most fun I've ever done. Our tour guide Fiona did a great job of bringing the group together, introducing us to all the delicious foods from local places - I'd highly recommend this tour if you're in Chengdu and want to discover some of the wonderful food Chengdu has to offer.
Must do food tour!! Delicious food and drinks and the tour guide Fiona was really lovely and informative and even gave us recommendations for other activities and restaurants for the rest of our stay. Could not recommend a lost plates food tour more!
Iris was a fantastic guide who spoke English very well. Most of the restaurants we stopped at were great and we certainly tried some very good Dan Dan Noodles and Tonshou. What let this tour down was the last restaurant we attended. The food was mediocre compared to our meals we ate on other tours. The evening finished in a very eclectic wine bar which we loved. One thing to point out is that the tour does not end at the meeting place as specified on Viator. The score of this review should not be seen as a reflection on the guide or her efforts, but rather on the quality of the food at a specific establishment and the tour not ending at the place specified.
This was such a fun evening . The tuk tuks are a nice touch , zipping you from place to place . Our host for the evening was Iris who knew exactly what she was talking about with regards to the food & she also gave really interesting historical context . We finished with local fruit wine in the cosiest bar that you would never find . Kinda IYKYN place . This is a great tour & if you are lucky you will get Iris to guide you around the exceptional food offerings of Chengdu . Iris also kindly sent a comprehensive list of places we might like to visit while we are here & it’s been super useful . What an asset Iris is to Lost Plates
Wow ! Great food and a great guide (Monica) to some of Chengdu’s hidden secret food locations. A real mix of dishes and flavours (and as much beer as you could drink). My wife’s food allergy was taken into account and put us completely at ease. In short, looking for a few hours sampling all the delights the city of food offers, then choose Monica and the guys at Lost Plate.
I really enjoyed the local cuisine and the restaurants we visited since they all were so authentic and the food was excellent. Most importantly our guide Claire was amazing, very helpful and provided lots of information for both the food and the city.
We would like to give thanks to Iris, which was an amazing host and answered all of our questions! The food at each place was authentic sichuan food and very, very delicious! We fully recommend this experience if you are visiting Chengdu!
Saw restaurants and stores we would definitely not go as first time tourists in China! worth it
We had the best time with Iris! One of our favorite food tours yet. Great mix of local foods, and the tuktuk was fun and memorable. Would recommend 1000x!
This is a 'must do' while in Chengdu! Amazing foodie experience, highlighting not only food, but the culture and history of this charming city. Chris was fabulous.
