Very nice hotel right in the centre of the city, with spectacular views from many of the rooms and from the rooftop bar. Excellent gym facilities and a huge swimming pool as well. Value for money is outstanding when compared to European or US hotels (I paid around £150/night for a lovely suite)

The Westin Chongqing Liberation Square is an excellent choice for anyone visiting Chongqing, combining luxury, comfort, and an unbeatable location in the heart of the city. Situated just steps from the famous Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street, the hotel makes it easy to explore Chongqing’s vibrant shopping, dining, and nightlife, while many of the city’s top attractions are within walking distance. The rooms are spacious, modern, and thoughtfully designed, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows that offer spectacular views of Chongqing’s dramatic skyline and surrounding mountains. The signature Westin Heavenly® Bed lives up to its reputation, providing one of the most comfortable night’s sleeps after a day of exploring the city’s steep streets. The breakfast buffet offers an impressive variety of both international and local specialties, making it a great way to experience Chongqing cuisine alongside classic Western favorites. The executive lounge is another highlight, offering a relaxing atmosphere with excellent service and panoramic city views.
Very good value for the price! Location is top tier, in the middle of the city and close to everything, easily walkable. Service is perfect and rooms come with phenomenal views of Chongqing. Breakfast and Club access have very wide variety of foods and drinks.
Is the Westin Chongqing the best property that I’ve been to? Probably not, but in APAC region standards, it is a solid contender. It may be the most expensive Marriott property in Chongqing at the time this review was written, mostly due to the fact it seems to be the newest “premium tier” hotel Marriott has in the city, but I’d argue that the “relative” premium price you pay is to be close to the action, but still tucked away into a quieter neighbourhood. Location: This place is within walking distance of the Chongqing Changjiang (Yangtze) River Ropeway, the Liberation Monument, and Hongya Cave (the part of the town that people say has “Spirited Away” vibes). It’s also steps away from the 1 and 6 subway lines, and a 10 minute walk from line 2, which connects you to Liziba station (that monorail station famous for all the influencers that stand in front of the station and pretend to eat a monorail train) Hard Product: On paper, this place has excellent amenities including: - a club lounge (that has decent selection of food and beverages) - an indoor swimming pool - an infinity pool on the roof with breathtaking views of the city (FINE PRINT: not open to guests to swim in) - several restaurants and a lobby bar - fitness center - High Floor guest rooms (lowest floor is 34/F) - Individually controlled HVAC systems (this one is apparently a big deal for a lot of people) - Massive Soaker tubs, shower stalls with rain showers, and Toto Washlets Now, let’s break down the service experience: - Check in is at the lobby, which is in the 51st floor, I arrived pretty late, so there was no wait. As with Asian properties, check in requires scanning of the ID of both guests staying. - Breakfast is served in the restaurant on the 50th floor, tons of food options. Elite Members with Platinum Status and up, get this for free (alongside the welcome gift of 1000 points or a welcome amenity of pastries and fruit). Special mention for the noodle station- definitely recommend you try the Chongqing Noodles- the noodles were very silky. - The Club Lounge (for those with a Club Room, or Platinum and above Bonvoy membership) opens at 2pm daily, starting off with tea time, which includes a selection of fresh fruit and pastries, followed by “happy hour” from 5:30pm-8:30pm, where they serve a wide spread of hors d’oeuvres, dessert, and liquor- that said, on days when it did get busy, the staff were visibly struggling to clear tables and replenish food and cutlery- it can get a little frustrating, but we only encountered this once in our 4 night stay (oddly enough on a Monday of all days). Solid effort from the staff overall, but their volume forecasting could use some work, and management may want to introduce the use of trolleys to reduce the number of trips that lounge attendants make walking in and out of the kitchen- it worked well enough in various properties elsewhere. - App Chat Service: I was pleasantly surprised in how quickly and accurately the team got back to me when I sent messages to them in the app- this I do need to give them a huge shoutout for as many properties, especially those in Japan have a very bad habit of taking half an hour to get back to me. About the rooms… The rooms have excellent amenities, from a well equipped bathroom to those wonderful Westin mattresses, that said, despite how new this property is, they seem to be struggling to perform all necessary maintenance- as the rooms are starting to look worn down. Furniture looks faded, in some areas, caulking is wearing off, tiles are cracking and chipping in some areas. That said rooms still look really nice, but I wonder if the developers and builders set the hotel up for success, as quality in some areas seemed a bit lacking…. Another example of this would be the quirky arrangement of floor buttons on some elevators, where the floors on the control panel are mirrored (some of these panels also don’t work at all) To sum it up, decent staff, nice enough rooms, fantastic location, but the hotel overall could do with some polish.
Exceptional hotel and value, rooms were great, cleaned 2x per day, excellent king size bed and soft fresh linen. High end large breakfast dining and choice of food sets you up for the day. Every staff member super friendly and no request too hard, great English. Rooms are between 40-50th floor plenty of lifts. Only a 5min walk from metro. All main streets, shopping, very close. Main bridge across to other side is easy 5min taxi and also route to airport that way too maybe $15 taxi to airport. Highly recommended.
