Altitude 3,300m, I do appreciate the medical grade Oxygen concentrator machine next to my bed. They also provide humidifier separately.
The air was just too thin to truly enjoy Shangri-La. Lobby, restaurant, fitness area were all 5 stars. Lotsa lounging areas available. More breathable than in the room.
Room was standard, however the bathroom is so air tight I can hardly breathe like in a Tupperware. Felt so giddy on arrival, room was the last place to be breathing in.
Breakfast was great. More selection than other hotels.
Fitness centre staff was commendable, advised us on Dos and Don’ts on the first day upon arrival. They even have blood pressure machine in several level 1 locations to help guests with altitude sickness.
I stayed three nights at Shangri-La Hotel in Shangri-La City and overall had a very comfortable stay. The room was spacious, clean, and equipped with oxygen, which was really appreciated. Housekeeping kept everything fresh throughout my visit. The hotel has a restaurant and a bar, and breakfast offered a good mix of local and international choices. The location was also convenient, about five minutes by DiDi to the old town, which made exploring easy. One small drawback was that the hallways and elevator areas could have been cleaner. But the room, service, and breakfast were strong points. I’d consider staying again, especially for the room comfort and proximity to the old town.
You walk in to the grandeur and familiar distinctive smell of the Shangri-La brand, but the similarities kind of end there. To normal standards this is still a good hotel, but to the brand standards it doesn't cut it. Run down, things don't work, staff are awkward, and the breakfast (which is usually the highlight of my stay at a Shangri-La) was just pitiful.
Very good service from the staff named Rose, the hotel provides a free shuttle to the station with a minimum order one day in advance, the breakfast is very varied and delicious, the room is equipped with portable oxygen and a toilet that has an automatic bidet, the location is very strategic to the ancient town, giant prayer wheel and behind the hotel there is a complete traditional market, will come back again if there again
This hotel is a destination by itself. Staying in Shangri-La in Shangri-La! Highly recommended with great staffs, great service and great food. The rooms are also fantastic. The only issue is that the altitude is high above sea level so you need time to adjust. With the beautiful sights all around... it is highly worth it.
