Gorgeous way to spend a day outside Cape Town. As a solo traveller, this was perfect for meeting strangers from all over the world over a few glasses of wine. The scenery at each stop was beautiful, the wines were lovely, and the staff at every winery were thoughtful and attentive. One small note: in the lead-up to the tour, there was a bit of push to get me to start earlier to squeeze in more stops. I care more about quality than quantity, so I stuck with my original plan of joining halfway through the day. It ended up being the right call for me - it was great to have a relaxed, social day in the winelands.

Easy way to see the wineries in Stollenbosch. Enjoyed all of the wineries and the meeting and process of this was very easy and efficient. The only downside is it makes you very time bound - basically 1 hour 15 at a winery and then you have to go - would have preferred a little more time so as to not need to keep watching the clock
It was a lovely experience. Our driver, Marshal, was the best “host” you could wish for. He was very friendly and entertaining, and was a great source of historical information about the wine estates and Stellenbosch. I would definitely recommend this as the best way to go wine tasting!
Loved the wine hopper bus and so convenient to get to the wineries near by and not worry about driving! Got to taste 4 different wineries and all had a different taste and feel with all offering tasting and food options. A great day spent in Stellenbosch.
You think you can do this with a taxi and save some money. No way. The experience that you have with Marchall is exceptional. The driver is completely competent, friendly, and absolutely reliable. It gives you great tips to choose the right things in the right place.
We had a great experience on today’s hop-on hop-off tour! Our guide Marshall was absolutely fantastic – very funny, punctual, and full of interesting explanations. The selection of wineries was excellent, and we really enjoyed the stops. The car was also spotless and very comfortable, which made the whole trip even better. Highly recommend!
Excellent tour. Marchelle was a superstar and made our day. Also Lance was a great tour guide. Recommend this company for anyone wanting a wine tour. 🍷
A very effective way to visit multiple vineyards in a single day. It worked very well; the selected locations provided good quality wine opportunities, and the pace was perfect, with no hush and no time to lose.
The southern tour was great and the scenery around the vinyards is amazing. The vinyards and wines are all different so every stop is a new experience. Make sure to start at the earliest if you want to visit all 6 stops. The bus pickup is aprox. Every hour, which is not much if you also want to talk to the people. If you want a more relaxing day you should skip one or two stops, but thats totally ok. The lunch options could be improved at each place, some don't even offer any food. And watch out on which day you do the tour, since some places have a "day-off" or are closed for renovations.
A great way to see up to 6 different wineries. Each offered a different selection and in a varied environment. Marshall, the driver is superb, good humour and great care.
Marshall, our host, performed his duties impeccably shuttling us to 3 wine estates. Vine Hopper is the way to conduct your wine tours.
An absolute cracker of a day. Our driver, Marshall was one in a million, a great sense of humour, and an amazing knowledge of the local history and culture. If your in Stellenbosch I would thoroughly recommend availing your self of this tour and Marshalls services.
Wine Hop-On Hop Off bus is good option how to visit Stellenbosch wineries if you do not have car and you do not want to be on organized tour with prescribed itinerary. Here you had option to stay on one / more visited wineries longer or to move to the next winery on the itinerary. We visited 4 wineries (1) Neethlingshof Estate, 2) Spier Wine Farm, Alto Wine Estate and Kleine Zalze), which was plenty enough. Each of visited wineries was different, and wine in all locations was excellent and ambiente of all places was beautiful. This is good option if you are staying in Stellenbosch or you can also do from Cape Town if you will come to Stellenbosch individually
Wonderful Southern tour in a comfortable minivan. Depending on what time you start will depend on how many wine stops you are able to do. We started at 11am and were able to do 3 stops which included us having a shared platter for lunch. The wine and scenery was wonderful. I don’t think we could cope with 4 stops as were quite jolly after 3 stops 🤣🍷🥂
We had a lovely day drinking wine and our driver Jerome was great as he tailored the pick ups to suit us.
Very disappointing. Tour was totally unorganized . We're off loaded at a wine farm that was still closed .
My experience on the wine tasting tour was exceptionally easy and enjoyable. The efficient and comfortable transportation between wineries, ease characterized the entire journey. The selected wineries offered a variety of experiences, and the tastings were conducted in an approachable manner, even for beginners. Overall, the combination of ease, expertise, and a pleasant atmosphere made this tour a memorable and highly recommended experience for those seeking a hassle-free wine journey.
If in Stellenbosch and you want to have a FUN day and see some wineries, this is the thing to do!! We had a GREAT driver/tour guide, Marchall who made our day such a fun time! Welcomed us on the van with rules (HAHA)! and told us about what wineries we were going to see and do(IF you want to see them all). Had tips on where to eat. Just made the day very enjoyable with his knowledge and fun attitude!!
This is a really great way to visit several vineyards in one day with a very good degree of independence. The minibus service operates to a timetable circulating around six vineyards with days of the week adopting different timetables and different vineyards. The guides/drivers are very knowledgeable. Each drop off from the Transport at a vineyard approximately one hour before the next minibus collection arrives and this does allow for six vineyards to be visited in one day. However, if more time is taken at any particular vineyard then the number of Vineyards able to be visited that day will be restricted. From what we saw and learned from our driver - it is evident that the majority of visitors are intent on maximising wine consumption, rather than tasting - also illustrated by an absence of spittoons which are only provided upon request . All vineyards visited offered different facilities and appealed in different ways. Overall, it is a good experience, and of course – an obligatory thing to do when visiting South Africa.
We all had a great day on this tour - even the non-drinkers! The wineries we visited such as Spier and Alto were in such beautiful settings and the people were all helpful and friendly. The Eagle Encounter was an unexpected highlight - great to be able to hold and cuddle with owls! Our driver Marshall was a real hoot and provided frank answers to our questions about the country. Highly reccommend!
Marchell was absolutely amazing, he was knowledgeable and very attentive to his customers and he made it fun. All of the wine farms on the route was stunning and we had a blast.
Wonderful experience with amazing drivers. This wine tour is a must. Be careful with random tourists from North America who might not appreciate the beauty of the place…
We slept in on a recent Sunday morning while on vacation and then went to the Tourist Information Center to ask about things available to do. The kind people there called the Vine Hopper to see if there was space and confirmed that we could get picked up at 11:00am at the Center or our hotel, the Oude Werf, only one block away. We joined a nice honeymoon couple who were also staying at our hotel and also picked up another couple. Our driver was Marchall who had lots of energy and gave good information at each stop. Marchall checked with all of us to determine where we wanted to go, especially given that we started at their second departure. We were able to make a total of four stops: Neethlingshof, Spier, Alto, and Klein Zalze (all reviewed separately). Marchall would coming looking for us if the time was up to try to keep us on schedule. While the four stops were plenty for us, given that the Haskell Vineyards were closed for renovations, it does seem like another option should be given, to allow for another choice.
Our driver was excellent and friendly, however was disappointed we were only able to visit 3 wineries when we expected 6.
A great experience. No need to worry about a designated driver. Up to 6 different wine farms in one day. Amazing views, tasty wine and food. And our driver Marshall is the friendliest guy in Stellenbosch. Thoroughly recommend.
Highly recommend this if you like wines. We did the Southern Route, leaving Stellenbosch on the first shuttle and returning on the last of the day. We were able to visit all wineries, but skipped the Brandy Distillery. Marshall drove us and kept us on schedule. His instructions are clear and he takes a few extra minutes of his time to get out at the wineries, making sure to point out where restaurants/tastings/toilets are located. We liked the tasting experience at Neethlingshof, (interesting Pinotage) mainly because of the young woman's beautiful descriptions of each wine and suggestions for food pairings. Reds were tasty at Alto and Kleine Zalze, particularly the Cabernet Sauvignon.
Absolutely fantastic few hours wine tasting. Marshall was our driver and was very knowledgable about Stellenbosch and the wine farms. Marshall was friendly and on time at every stop. He made sure every one understood the timetable and booked us lunch at Haskell which has views which arevamazing. We were picked up at 9.30 and did tastings at 4 out of the 6 places. The staff at all the places were friendly and helpful. We didnt feel rushed at all as you can stay as long as you want at any of the places. The longer you stay the less farms you visit though.
Good value and way to visit a variety of wineries. I recommend it. Plus you meet some other travelers and can share the experience.
We had been to Franshoek before but not Stellenbosch so wanted to explore the area. The vine hopper was a great way of doing it and we were really lucky to have Marshall as our driver. Such an enthusiastic and helpful guy. This is a hop on hop off service which does circuits throughout the day. I think we could have gone to 7 winery's potentially and ended up with 5. The tastings were amazing and certainly generous. We also had snacks with some of them. We did the southern tour. We found Spier to be over commercial. The others were all "boutique" and really excellent. Tip would be to maybe book in advance if you want to have a proper meal. Enjoy!
We did both the Southern and Northern route. Seeing Stellenbosch wineries were absolutely worth it. Our driver Marshall was prompt and informative as well as being very friendly and witty. You have enough time to enjoy the wineries and surroundings as well as getting a little bit jolly (if you would like of course). It is perfect for wine lovers all over and serves wines from Pinotage to Sauvignon Blanc. I would highly recommend and I am very much looking forward to doing it again.
Keaneroy, our driver, was helpful and did everything he could to ensure we had a great afternoon on the hop-on hop-off tour. We enjoyed tastings in two vineyards. This is not a personalised tour and there are schedules to keep to. If you understand this you won't be disappointed.
If you, like most people, are in Stellenbosch for sampling its world famous wines, then why bother and plan an individual tour with the hassle of finding to drive you from A to B, if you can simply book a tour on the legendary Vinehopper? The tour offers multiple routes with an ecclectic choice of winemakers, ranging from chic upper class estates to more familiar down-to-earth places. The tour offers the flexibility of leaving out estates in order to focus on the ones most interesting to you and a very cool side-effect is meeting new people from all over the world, while getting merrier from stop to stop. Highly recommended and very popular for a reason!
Had a great day! Ronnie was very flexibel and made sure we have a fun day! His suggestions were great too. Dankie Ronnie!
Awesome Awesome stuff!!! Marshall was very friendly and knowledgeable. Me and my wife met some a crazy group of ladies and she enjoyed her birthday immensely.
We had a great day with Ronny. He was a super guide and made our bus into a family🥰 He takes into account the tastes and preferences of the people in the bus, this is definitely recommended!
We had a very good time on our vine hopper tour with Ronny. We visited 4 out of 6 possible venues, which was more than enough for us. Our guide was very helpful by choosing the right vineyards for us and managed the tour perfectly according to our individual requirements. We would definitively recommend the tour and specifically want to thank Ronny for the great time we had!!
We had quite a private tour, only one other couple. Ronny our driver was the best: High energy, funny, positive and he amended the tour to suit our wishes. In the end we have been to Nedlingshof, KleineZalze, Alto and Haskells which we all loved from the vines as well as the scenery. Thank you, Ronny!
So, we were picked up my Marschall from our guest house and immediately knew it was going to be a cracking day! Marschall’s humour and guidance was wonderful and we explored 5 of the southern vineyards. We had enough time to do 5 tastings in each one but spent longer at Haskell because the views were just simply stunning!! We met other like minded ‘winies’ and had such the craic and laughter! It’s amazing what a wee drop of the good stuff can do for bringing strangers together!! Like most vineyards in South Africa, you just can’t go wrong!! Marschall looked after us all day and honestly, it’s one of the best wine tours we’ve ever had!! Thanks Marschall and the Welsh and German gang who made it a stunning day!! Colin and Joseph
I enjoyed this way of traveling to the vineyards, as you get the required information without a tour operator running around you.
Vine Hopper You Rock In Every Way 783044953 Marcell was our Driver / Guide and we felt right at home when he greeted us at Devonvale Golf & Wine Estate in Stellenbosch. He is charming, funny and filled with knowledge about Stellenbosch and it's wineries. I was permanently employed in the winelands working for 6 years plus currently busy part-time in this business and Marcell told me a few things. The Hyundai Luxury mini-bus is a Hop-on Hop-off service, was spotless and we throughly enjoyed the whole experience. We did the Southern Route, they have different routes on different days have a look on their site. You don't need to do the whole route as there is 6 wineries. We chose Neethlingshof, Alto, Haskell and Kleine Zalze then on our way back to Devonvale. I can definitely recommend this company as well as Devonvale for accommodation this was a weekend we will never forget.
The wine hopper is an excellent idea and gets you out and enjoying your tasting without the need to worry about drink driving. Our driver was called Marshal and what a wonderful character he was. Kept us going and was lovely and clear about where we were going and the times that he would be back. The trip wouldn't have been the same without him.
We‘ve got picked up in time. The drivers were very nice and we had a lot of fun. We had a sich great group and did the tastings together. We skipped two wine estates, but that was our plan. It was all over a perfect and fun tour.
We had a great tour with driver Marshall who gets a 5/5 himself ☺️ The vineyards are beautiful, the vine at the different locations are nice and the staff serviceminded. A bit of waiting for the food in small portions at Haskell. All in all we truly recommend the vinehopper tour with Adventureshop 🌞
We went on the vine hopper tour a few months ago and have to say it was a perfect day’s entertainment. As we were staying in Spier and had already done their excellent tastings we concentrated on the other farms. We did Neethlingshof, Haskell, Kleine Zalze wine farms and also took in the Van Ryn Brandy distillery. The locations were all magnificent, idyllic settings. The wine and brandy were absolute top drawer ! The idea of the tour is simple but brilliantly effective and the countryside is incredible. I really must (as others I notice have also done) give compliments to the Tour Guide/Driver named Marshall - he was a very cool, informative, interesting chap and made excellent suggestions to us to get more from the day. This trip is excellent value for it is a wonderful experience. I highly recommend it.
This is a great way to visit several vineyards without driving. You can taste up to five wines at each for a small payment between 40 and 60 rand (£2-£3). Some pressure to buy but prices expensive compared with UK market for South African wines.
We loved the freedom that you have. If you don't want to go to 1 of the wineries, yoy don't. If you want to leave early, you can. They pick you up from your accommodation and bring you back. Its almost like you are having a private tour. Definitely recommend it. Loved the brandy distillery
Good service and explanation of how it works. Guides were goos at chasing up people to keep everything pretty much on schedule.
We had a great day hopping on and off on the wine tour and met lovely people along the way. The stops are for an hour and times are specific, so would recommend a bit of research into the routes and wineries first and decide which ones you want to spend longer at (e.g 2hrs and have lunch etc) . A great day out with fabulous drivers/ staff who really looked after us, thank you.
We were picked up perfect on time at our guesthouse and had a perfect day. The time schedule informs you exactly when the bus passes at the different winehouses, so you van choose how many you want to visit. Very flexible system! The staff was very friendly! Ideal formular to visit som nice winehouses including the tastings as you don't have to drive!
So booked this on a whim based on trip advisor feedback and I'm glad we did! We booked just the evening before - Marshall turned up exactly at the time we expected - he had just the right way of interacting with us all (and we came from many nations) - he took care of us all and made a variety of suggestions to us about good wines to try - good places to eat..... Vine Hopper don't lose Marshall - he's a real asset to you!!!!!
