Southern Sun De Wagen

Southern Sun De Wagen is one of my penultimate favourite stays in Stellenbosch. It’s a modern take on Cape Dutch architecture, where heritage meets contemporary luxury. Although managed by Southern Sun, it feels nothing like a traditional Southern Sun hotel. It’s classy and luxurious, yet conveys a wonderful sense of calm and comfort. The rooms are tastefully decorated and have all the mod cons you could need. The king-sized beds are exceptionally comfortable, with ultra-soft pillows that make for a fantastic night’s sleep. Charlotte Rhys products are provided in the bathrooms, a standard across the Southern Sun brand, and they also offer an evening turndown service, which is a lovely touch. The property has a beautiful pool in the courtyard, as well as a comfortable lounge area where you can simply relax and unwind. Breakfast is served at the wonderful Volkskombuis and is absolutely fantastic. A special shoutout to Heinrich, who checked me in on my most recent visit. He was incredibly professional, welcoming and helpful. I can’t wait to come back. Staying at this beautiful boutique hotel is always such a treat.

We had an excellent stay at the hotel. The manager/owner (not sure) heard it was my mother’s birthday and even sent a surprise gift to her room - such a nice touch! The rooms were nice and clean with great bedding! The property is beautifully decorated and I don’t share the noise complaints I’ve read here in the comments. Service was overall very good, with some rare exceptions at the restaurant and specially the grumpy lady at the reception doing the night shifts. Definitely recommended!

Every thing was excellent. Very good location, close to the center, plenty restaurants nearby. Room very clean and comfortable, huge bathroom. Wi-Fi connection stable. Staff always friendly and helpful. Pool was a big plus in the heat.

I spent last weekend at Southern Sun de Wagen, and had the most incredible time! The rooms were magnificent, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was second to none. The general manager Abel Pienaar went the extra mile to check in with us, and he was kind enough to take us on a tour, and give us a detailed history about the story of the hotel itself. Magnificent views! I will most certainly be back! Thank you de wagen staff and management!
