Itinerary
Leave Cape Town behind and head off by luxury minivan to the Stellenbosch wine region – famous for its Mediterranean climate and fertile soils that help to produce millions of litres of wine each year. With your expert guide, hop back in your minivan and continue your journey northwest to the Paarl wine region, home to leading wine producers like Fairview. Stop at the Fairview Wine Estate, trying out several of their famed white wines and cheeses. As this is a private tour, your itinerary for the day is flexible and you can chop and change as you please. So, take it slow and be sure to meander along the way, staying a little longer if you please or even popping in at quaint looking stops along the way. Our suggestion is an early start at the cheese haven of Fairview for a master tasting of wine with cheese and olive oil that will open both your mind and palate to tastes that you didn't think were possible.
On the journey towards the quaint town of Franschhoek, stopover at Plaisir de Merle, nestled at the foot of Simonsberg Mountain. Founded by Charles Marais in 1693, the estate's history is steeped in winemaking tradition and French heritage. The manicured lawns, ancient oak trees, and panoramic vistas create a picturesque setting for wine enthusiasts. Step into the tasting room, housed in a charming 1823 barn, and indulge in some of the estate's finest wines while enjoying breathtaking views of the valley. Enhance your tasting experience with wine and confectionary pairings, including artisanal nougat or chocolate truffles. Plaisir Wine Estate's serene atmosphere and historic charm make it a memorable destination for wine lovers. Explore the estate's rich heritage and stunning landscapes as you sip on exquisite wines and immerse yourself in the beauty of the surroundings. Whether you're a wine connoisseur or simply seeking a tranquil escape, you'll love it here.
Lunch takes place in the gourmet capital of South Africa – Franschhoek – roughly 5 miles (8 km) away. Your private guide will point out the best sidewalk cafes and restaurants, and then leave you to enjoy lunch at your own expense. South Africa’s epicurean capital; Franschhoek, with its multitude of eateries is a must-do for gourmands and on weekends the local farmer’s market beckons with colourful stalls, tasty aromas and live music. You’ll have time to soak up the history of the French Huguenots who arrived in the Seventeenth Century, maybe catch an impromptu church choir performance in the street, shop for knick-knacks and bric-a-brac along the main street or savour a charcuterie plate and tasty local creations.
Your last stop of the day is a small Stellenbosch wine estate called Muratie, much loved by locals, with bags of charm. Its traditional cellars are typified by ramshackle walls and worn paintings -- adding to its rustic charm. Sample the estate’s fortified sweet port-style wine and locally produced chocolate (or similar*)– a winning combination! If you are not a fan of sweet wines the Muratie's classic white or red tasting is available as an alternative too. Relax on the journey back to Cape Town, where you’ll arrive in the early evening. - The exact itinerary is subject to change and may, on occasion, run in a different order. *Muratie's chocolate wine pairing experience will be discontinued by April 2024, and will be replaced with a similar value of wine tasting experience. - This private tour will run exclusively run for you. The itinerary is flexible and can be tailored to spend more time at the tour’s highlights that interest you the most or swop for alternative options.
This is a private tour running exclusively for you or your group. Do contact us during of after the booking process to let us know if you would prefer any changes to the tour and we can suggest an updated itinerary and cost estimate if there are any additional charges.

I was lucky enough to experience this wine tour having booked through Viator. It lives up to the 5 star reviews. It was faultless from start to finish. Our Guide Gigi (his nickname meaning gentle giant) was an absolute star, full of knowledge and interesting and exciting stories throughout the day. We also got to enjoy some fabulous food and wine in spectacular settings! What a treat... Definitely a bucket list tick box for anyone keen to explore the area in a day.
Amazing driver GG. So knowledgeable and friendly. Winery stops were beautiful and informative. We would recommend this tour to families in a heartbeat.
Our guide was great, very positive about South Africa and knowledgeable about wine. We were very delayed due to an accident on the motorway and didn’t get to do all the wine farms on the schedule, but Paul made it a special day nonetheless. Lots of lovely wines, a diversion to Plaisir highly recommended.
This day trip to the Stellenbosch region was fabulous. Started at the Fairview Wine Estate where wines were paired with cheese. Delicious! Franschhoek Town was next where we walked the town filled with wine stores, art galleries, boutiques and restaurants. Pretty town and so many options for lunch. Took the Wine Tram (great idea so you could go from one winery to the next without driving)! We stopped at the Rickety Bridge Farm...so much fun to try so many wines. This Winery was started by Paulina De Villiers in 1797. Last stop was the rustic wine farm of Muratie. Dessert wines paired with chocolate. Unbelievable experience, with an exceptional tour guide for the day! Highly suggest this private guided tour.
We thoroughly enjoyed our Winelands tour with Liezel. She was very informative and kind. Klein Goederust winery was charming, Babylonstoren gardens were breathtaking and The tasting we had at Fairview was unmatched. We had such a lovely day.
Our Guide was informative and interesting. The vineyards were all different so we had a variety of experiences.
Our guide Gerhardus Pretorius was an enchanting, knowledgeable, and accommodating. We had a wonderful experience visiting Fairview and thoroughly enjoyed its Master Tasting. We then got a delightful taste of Franschhoek. Afterwards we visited Babylonstoren Gardens where we indulged in a delightful Chardonnay/MCC Tasting and a couple of delicious platters for lunch. Our final stop was Muratie for a Chocolate & Wine Tasting. We loved the setting, wines, and the chocolates. A ride through Stellenbosch revealed a lovely university town. We highly recommend this tour and our guide Gerhardus Pretorius.
We scheduled a one day Winelands Explore of Stellenbosch Franschhoek Paarl Regions with Hotspots2c and had a fabulous day! Our guide TK was outstanding!! He was knowledgeable, friendly and ensured our day ran effortlessly. We had a wonderful lunch at Reuben's in Franschhoak which was delicious! Thank you to Hotspots2c and TK for making our wine tasting in South Africa such an amazing day!
What a fabulous day and experience we had courtesy of Hotspots2c! Our guide (JP) was brilliant, very knowledgeable about wines and made sure that we were thoroughly looked after at every vineyard we visited - absolutely nothing was too much trouble, and the vineyard at Muratie with its own history an experience in itself. And the wines - superb!!!!! This trip was one of the highlights of our South Africa holiday with very happy memories of a fantastic day and I would absolutely recommend Hotspots2c to anyone considering one of their tours. A great time had by all.
TK is amazing! Really enjoyed the full day tour with him and all the places were really great! A must-do whenever you’re in Cape Town.
We packed a lot in to the day as we had limited time in Cape Town. This was a perfect introduction to these great wines with excellent commentary and knowledge from T K. Very many thanks!
Our tour of the Winelands was excellent. Each of the three farms we visited was unique and treated us to delicious wine with cheese or chocolate pairings. The scenery along the way was beautiful.
Isaac was the best guide you could imagine. Very informative on all the wineries He guided us on the best selections
We were picked up on time in a marvelous air conditioned van and driven out to wine country. Our guide TK was very informative about Cape Town and other townships on our drive out. He knew much history and stories. Our first stop at Fairview in the Paarl region was lovely, very neat wine barrel style bars with knowledgeable host and 6 wines paired with cheese and meat. Our second stop was lunch, I forget the name of the restaurant but it was delicious. Then a shop experience in Franschhoek and the drive to the tram to go to Rickety Bridge. We had 2 wines there and our last stops Muratie had 3 wines and paired chocolates. It was a very old winery with stone walls and no updates. Was a great time and would recommend!
We had an amazing private tour of Paarl, Stellenbosch, and Francshoek with Liezel. The company was very communicative prior to the tour, contacting me via Whatsapp to confirm pick up date, time, and location. I had seen a few wineries that I wanted to visit, and Liezel was able to adjust our itinerary to suit our needs . Liezel picked us up from our hotel on time, and was very informative throughout the tour. Conversation came easily with her, and it felt like we were traveling with a friend, rather than a tour guide. Liezel was highly organized and we kept a leisurely, but on time, pace throughout the day. We went to 3 wineries, had time for lunch in Franschoek, and were able to ride the wine tram for a short time. We learnt a lot exploring the winelands with her. She even gave us some travel tips for the next time we're in town. I'd highly recommend her, and will definitely use her company again when next in Cape Town.
Really good trip made even better by our driver Zanni. 3 really good wineries where we sampled a good selection of red and white wine. Beautiful scenery. Thoroughly enjoyed
Gerard, our guide was very knowledgeable, accommodating, and super friendly. Fun to be with and showed us some cool spots and experiences.
Wine tour to stellenbosch. Guide was wonderful - very knowledgeable. Everyone at the wineries was great. We had a wonderful day.
First Liezel was a great guide. She was knowledgeable, prompt, helpful and enthusiastic. She chose a diversity of winery experiences that created a sense of adventure. She picked the 12 of us up at the one and Only hotel on the Waterfront 9:00 am and we were back a bit after 6:30 pm. Second everyone at the wineries were helpful, informative, friendly and fun. Lunch in Stellenbosh was delightful. Finally the wines were excellent and varied. We all bought some.
Liezel De Klerk was an amazing guide. Great choice of wineries with a variety of unique experiences and wines. A special day for our group of 12. Everyone loved it
Our tour of three wine vineyards was outstanding. Each offered something different. From one that offered various wines to accompany different food. One the offered history and atmosphere and one outstanding views. Our personal guide was extremely knowledgeable and passionate. He offered us an insight to the area and it’s history. He also antiseptic our needs ….l outstanding, superb
Fantastic day! Incredible wines and incredible views! Liezel was friendly and knowledgeable, providing historical perspectives of the areas as well as information on the different Wine Farms and types of wine! With the added touch of a stop for a glass of wine overlooking the beautiful wine lands of Franschoek! Relaxing and enjoyable! I strongly recommend this tour!
I can’t say enough about this tour and our amazing guide, driver and now friend Liezel! She picked my husband up from our Airbnb and took us to 3 vineyards in Western Cape along with stoping at another town after she researched where I could get a particular shoe I wanted... SO NICE! The vineyards we had tastings at were gorgeous and so tasty. The pairings with cheese and chocolate were a huge plus too. Liezel went out of her way to make sure we were taken care of, hydrated, had enough to eat, took photos of us and she was also so knowledgeable about the vineyards, wine and so much more regarding SA’s history. This private tour is a MUST! And we highly recommend Liezel! It added an extra special day to our honeymoon.
This is a wonderful tour. Our guide, the big G, was really knowledgeable and very kind to our young son. The master tasting at Fairview was incredible, we could have stayed there all day, and the wine and chocolate pairing at Muratie was a lovely way to end the day. We would definitely do this tour again.
Our driver was wonderful! Polite and wary of Covid-19 restrictions. A perfect way to spend a day thanks to him. Truly a delightful way to see such a beautiful part of the country.
We had an excellent tour with Gerhardt from Hotspots2c. Fair View offered us 8 excellent quality wines accompanied with their great selection of cheeses very well complementing each wine. La Motte had 7 good wines, but the overall setting is commercial driven. Muratie gives an excellent flavour of a traditional vineyard and offered very good champagne-like, port-like and dessert wines. Special thanks though to Gerhardt. He informed us about the history of wine development in South Africa from its inception in the 1600’s till today, packed with humour and historic knowledge. This trip is recommended by all of us to future travellers and wine aficionados. Cees, the Netherlands
The wine tasting with paired chocolate was new to me. We could have stayed all day but had other places that we needed to visit.
Jacobus our guide was very knowledgable and took us to some really interesting winery’s. Although a long day it proved to be very well worth while and we were pleased to concentrate on the tastings and pairings rather than spending lots of time looking at barrels of wine sitting in different cellars. Definitely a 5 star trip.
A personal tour of the vineyards with Big G was an excellent way to sample the different wines. The Fairview visit was the highlight with great wines and great cheeses. Big G was great company and a very helpful guide.
Loved this day so much! In addition to being an amazing hostess, Liezel was also a fantastic babysitter. Very kid friendly tour!
Really good fun. Gerhard was great as driver and guide. Really knows the area, history and wines. 4 wine tastings; all different and all good. Thanks
We really enjoyed our private tour of the Winelands. Nev, our tour guide, was especially awesome, full of knowledge, and set a great tone for the day (He would definitely get 5 stars as a guide). We loved the first and last wine tastings - at Fairview and Tokara. Fairveiw was really great - wide variety of good wines and yummy cheese pairings. The second stop Haute Cabriere was ok and the third stop at Boschendal was the most disappointing of the four. Nev was able to recommend and make a reservation at a cute cafe for lunch in Franschhoek which was great. Overall a great experience. If doing again, would probably customize the actual wineries stopped at a little more.
Our guide Ulrich was fantastic. He took the time to learn about our preferences and make sure the vineyards he picked would suit our tastes. Very knowledgable about the region. Would highly recommend.
The private winelands tour was excellent. Our tour guide, Liezel, shared so many cool pieces of information throughout the day and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with her. The wineries themselves were so beautiful. We loved every one of the four we visited. We were also huge fans of the fact that one included a cheese pairing with its tasing, while another included a chocolate pairing. We'd recommend to anyone visiting Cape Town - the experience is a must. We were sad to leave when our trip was over, but were happy to be bringing back a few bottles of excellent wine. Thanks for a wonderful day, Liezel!
Fairview was really good, cheese served and good wine selection. La Motte set in picturesque surroundings, nice wines, small piece of bread served with the wines. Buschendal did not show the bottles before serving, no snacks and boring wines. Muratie fantastic atmosphere in an old traditional winery. Wines paired with chocolate, very nice last stop, good personal. On the whole Buschendal could have been left out so you get more time at the others to walk around the beautiful grounds or buildings.
JP was a superb tour guide with excellent insights into the wines as well as deep history of the area. He picked us up on time in a shiny new van and expertly drove us to our destinations, which Clare had carefully adjusted to our requests in advance. He kept us on schedule without pressure and returned us safely home at the end of a wonderful day. We highly recommend this tour company when visiting Cape Town.
We got picked up at our hotel in downtown Capetown by Gigi, the gentle giant wine tour guide for a private (2 couples) trip to wine country. What a fun day! And some of us aren’t great wine lovers, but Gigi was awesome. He gave us a history tour as well as a chance to taste some great wine from four different estates. With a few quick questions, he properly gauged our real interests and combined wine tasting at four distinctly different venues including a stop where Nelson Mandela did his walk to freedom and drove through Stellenbosch and Franschoek while plying us with interesting historical and current information. Each of the tastings involved great wine but had their own flavors and level of hospitality. One was small and very personal, while some of the were much larger and offered a different type of tasting experience. Gigi delivered us safely back to our hotel with truly a fun wine tasting experience and much more. I highly recommend!
A fabulous day out in the beautiful wine country outside Cape Town. Couldn’t have been a better day touring the wineries and restaurants of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek with our wonderful guide Liezel. La petite Colombe restaurant a highlight in the middle of the day. Recommend the day tour with hotspots2c for anyone visiting the region.
What an incredible experience! No other guests booked this tour, and so I had my own personal wine tour with Gerhard (Big G). He was extremely knowledgeable, consultative, professional, and fun. We started the morning from my hotel in Cape Town and headed to Fairview winery in Paarl. Big G tailored the rest of the tour to wineries based on my preferences and tastes. Given it was a beautiful day, he took me to Die Donne in Franschoek, which has this incredible view of the Franschoek wine valley. Unbeatable way to spend a morning. Following this, we went to the Hugenot memorial in Franschoek, before stopping for lunch in the town center. Next, he took me to J.C. LeRoux given my preference for sparkling wines, and he squeezed a tasting in even though they were closed-kudos to Big G! We ended at Muratie Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, which also has amazing views of the winelands and Table Mountain. I was back in Cape Town by dinner. This was a truly great experience-there's simply no better way to see the Western Cape winelands than on a personal tour with an expert guide. Highly recommend!
We were 4 adults on a private full day tour. Our driver was very knowledgeable about all things South Africa and the 4 wineries he selected were beautiful and very different. We loved them all. His lunch suggestion in Franschhoek was great too. It’s a fantastic day and definitely worth choosing a PRIVATE tour.
Oh. My. Goodness!!! Wine tasting with Liezel was perfection. She was the best guide and took such good care of us. Hands down one of the best tours I’ve ever been on. “Buy a donkey” Liezel!!!
The tour was everything we could have hoped for and more! We were a group of three, one of us (me!) with a red wine allergy. We got to see 4 very different wineries, all with generous pours, diverse scenery/vibes, and all with plenty of time to explore. Liezel was knowledgeable, authentic, accommodating and fun - making sure I had plenty of white wines, our cheese stayed refrigerated, and we always had group photo ops. “Buy a donkey”, Liezel ☺️
Leizel was amazing, went way beyond the norm, the four of us had such a wonderful day visiting vineyards, tasting wine and she recommended an excellent lunch stop in Franschhoek, she also went out of her way to try and find something at the pharmacy for my wife, we all would love to highly recommend her as a most excellent tour guide
spent a fantastic day with our driver and guide who was a wealth of Knowledge. His quick thinking and fast action saved us from a serious accident when a drunk driver swerved in front of us and crashed against the railing. the country side was breathtaking and each of the places we visited were different and unique. He helped us to plan so we could experience everything we wanted without feeling rushed. truly a fantastic day Jacobus!
Plenty of wine tours are available from Cape Town - and with over 250 vineyards you can see why. We picked this one as it had 4 good visits during the day, and was a full day experience. It didn't disappoint, and we learned a lot from the visits and from Leisl our host. She was great for us all day - explaining things and telling us the history, but also being part of the group and joining in with the laughter. Thank you !!
Liezel picked 4 nicely diverse vineyards, provided commodious accommodation as to vehicle and sprightly conversation informed with a broad perspective on larger and smaller issues relevant to present day South Africa. We enjoyed a simple but satisfying lunch and amble in Franschhoek as a nice pause in the wine sampling activities. We were two couples from the states with diverse tastes in wine—all were reasonably well-served and learned much about this rich wine-making region. Highly recommended for all but the most demanding oenophile.
Three of us enjoyed a fantastic day of wine tasting with a little bit of added sightseeing which to my mind was a great balance. Our Guide Uriel was very knowledgeable and engaging though out the day which commenced with a prompt 9am pickup from our Hotel through to a 6pm drop off. We were happy to have the late drop off which afforded us the opportunity to walk the main Street of Stellenbosch and have a cleansing ale. We visited 4 wineries and all included wine tastings with one including matching cheeses and another Chocolate. We got to sample a variety of wines and was a great introduction to the region. There was also time for a lunch stop. Overall we were very happy with the tour and would not hesitate to recommend it or our guide Uriel. Perhaps the only suggested improvement I would make was if we could choose which wines we wanted to taste at one of the wineries instead of them all being pre-determined at all 4. No big deal but just a suggestion.
Our guide Liezel was so cool. Wine estates could’ve been a little more famous/interesting. But hey! The best was saved for last.
Liezel was an excellent guide. Her knowledge and local know-how meant that we learned about the history of Stellenbosch wine making and much else besides. Liezel also made it easy with two young children, taking us to places where the kids were entertained while we enjoyed some rare peace! This tour comes highly recommended!
