The hike gets its name from the shape of the ravine set between two large rock buttresses, offering one of the best viewpoints. The trail starts behind the lower cableway station, heading straight up Table Mountain before reaching the contour path. From here, the route gradually ascends a gully on a buttress known as Venster Buttress and veers left below a dramatic rock amphitheater. As you approach the eastern end of this amphitheater, the trail becomes steeper with some easy scrambling—stay focused, the most exciting section is still to come. Staples and chains have been installed along the way, making the climb more accessible and secure. Beyond this section, the path eases toward “The Ledge” and around the corner, where a refreshing breeze often greets you—an ideal spot to take in views over Camps Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Rounding the next corner, towering cliffs rise above as the trail continues southeast, climbing steeply to a higher ledge beneath massive overhangs. It then turns away from the sea into a shaded ravine, often cool and windy in the morning. From here, the summit is just 10 minutes away—well done!

He gave us history about the mountain and Cape Town and had great technical experience navigating India Venster! Use Patrick!
We did the India Venster hike with Patrick. It was a challenging hike, and one we would not have attempted without a guide, but Patrick was great, giving us the confidence to keep going when we reached some of the more tricky parts, and overall giving us excellent advice and direction when we needed it. He was also very friendly and engaging, with stories about Table Mountain and Cape Town more generally. The hike overall was quite an experience. It took about 4 hours with plenty of stunning views of Lions Head and the city below along the way, and there was a real sense of achievement when we reached the top, definitely an experience that will live long in the memory. I would definitely recommend Patrick as a guide for hiking up Cape Town's various peaks. He really knows his stuff, and I had complete confidence in his ability to help us navigate the challenging parts of the hike.

Patrick provided a nice overview of where our hike would take us up the mountain. Lots of interesting flora on the way up and of course one of a kind views. Route was technically challenging, but Patrick helped guide us through the scrambles. Highly recommend if you're looking to get outdoors in Cape Town.

Wife and I did this tour and it was great. Patrick was very informative and helpful. Views are out of this world, great exercise, and we learned alot about Table Mountain and Cape Town as a whole. I'd recommend 100%.
Amazing hike. Challenging, nothing insane, but you definitely have to enjoy rock scrambling and climbing with all fours at times. It can get a bit aerial and vertiginous in 2-3 spots, so if major fears of heights that may make it a bit difficult. But overall I highly recommend this hike. Best to do with a guide or someone with experience because may be easy to lose the trail
We had an amazing time hiking India Venster with Patrick! He was such a fantastic guide. I was nervous about the scrambling sections as I hadn’t done much of that before. However, Patrick was there every step of the way and showed us exactly what to do. I don’t think I could have done it without his guidance but thanks to him we managed it all without any problems. Plus, I realised just how much fun scrambling is and am now excited to do more in the future! The route is stunning, and so beautiful. In fact, I didn’t want the hike to end! Thank you so much for a wonderful experience. This is easily one of the best things that I have ever done in Cape Town and the ULTIMATE way to experience the beauty of Table Mountain. Thank you!
Patrick was the perfect guide. India Venster is not for the faint of heart. And while I am in pretty good shape I was very slow on the day of the hike. Patrick was patient, positive and very good company sharing stories about the mountain and the flora around us. He was especially amazing when we got to the scrambling and showed me exactly where to place my feet as we ascended. This by far was my favorite part of the hike and it was all thanks to Patrick's expert guidance. I am so glad I did this hike. It will stay with me for a long time. A highlight of my trip.
My husband and I loved this guided hike. Table Mountain is beautiful, and the India Venster trail is the perfect blend of hiking and novice rock climbing. Our guide Patrick was outstandingly fun and patient, and his instructions helped us (non-climbers) get up this trail’s climbing sections without ever feeling nervous or unsafe. If you like nature and adventure, this is a must do in Cape Town!
A challenging climb but worth it for the views and feeling of achievement. André my guide was very good, encouraging at the difficult climbing and maintaining the right pace for me.
It was a bit wet and very overcast so we ended up having to go a different route. Our guide Johan was super knowledgeable and the contact was amazing, he let us know the forecast the day before and how to prepare ourselves. We learned so much about the local plants, birds, and geology. I would definitely recommend this to anyone and don't be put off by grey weather!
I had such a great time mountain biking with my guide, Patrick, that I signed up to do a morning Table Mountain hike as well. Good to start early (when it’s quieter & cooler) the hike was challenging but still in the realm of my skill set! Patrick knew all the best ways to scramble the more technical areas we came across. He was also very knowledgeable of the area and terrain. Highly recommend this hike for outdoor enthusiasts! Don’t miss out!
Our guide Patrick was extremely knowledgeable about the history and biology of the area. The pace was perfect, with rest breaks for photos and interesting information. Would definitely recommend for a table mountain hike. This was the best hike me and my wife have ever been on!
Patrick took our family group of three up India Venster. We all thoroughly enjoyed the climb and found it physically and technically challenging but great fun. We had lots of short rest stops with some local history from Patrick to recover after difficult sections and this made it more enjoyable. He was very patient with us on the technical sections and gave good advice. Definitely recommend for a half day out in Cape Town.

This was my favourite part of my visit to Cape Town. I would recommend everyone hikes Table Mountain, it’s a far superior experience to the cable car which is over in less than 3 minutes! The hike is enjoyable with some challenging parts. The tour guide is so knowledgeable and really enhanced the experience. The only thing is trying to get a clear day where you will have a view at the top, but you can’t predict the weather so I would say go for it!
Patrick was great! I booked the trip last minute and was the only one from my group who went. He picked me up and returned me to my hotel. He knew paths off the trail and gave me the best experience possible. I want to book with him when I return to SA!

Highly recommended tour up Table Mountain for the fitter and more adventurous traveller. Patrick is an excellent and knowledgable guide who knows how to get you through the more difficult sections. One thing, this tour is not suited to those with a fear of heights. There are some "technical" climbs and narrow ledges to traverse.
The hike was perfect! Patrick is an amazing guide and for sure knows his ways around, and for this hike, a guide is a must. I don't hike very often, but Patrick made me feel very safe, he guided me through the climbing part and encouraged me until we got to the top. The rhythm of the hike was smooth and we stopped whenever we felt like resting and taking pictures, kudos for his photography skills. Besides that, Patrick is a really nice and kind person, easy to talk to, and definitely a good company for the Indian Venster hike, I really recommend it and I am looking forward to the next one!
This magical walk should not be missed when visiting Cape Town. Like a kind of Free Solo climbers, guide Patrick led us to the top. At first glance you don't believe you'll reach the steep top of the Table but Patrick conjures you up. During the tough walk I was impressed by the beauty of nature. Never a dull moment. Patrick draws your attention to interesting details in the mountain area. Patrick is a very experienced guide and can therefore adapt well to his company. Very laid-back guy.
