Great half-day trip if you’re short on time. We booked the 9am slot from Nelson Mandela Gateway. Ferry was smooth, bus tour around the island was informative, then the prison walk-through.

Visiting Robben Island was heavy but unforgettable. Standing in Nelson Mandela’s cell put everything into perspective. The ferry ride was choppy, but the tour guides — some ex-political prisoners — made it real. You don’t just learn history here, you feel it. Tough day, but important. Everyone should experience it once.
The Robben Island tour was well organized from start to finish. The ferry ride, museum tour, and the chance to see Nelson Mandela’s cell were highlights. The guides are knowledgeable and passionate, and they share the story with honesty and dignity. It’s more than a tourist stop — it’s a powerful lesson in history and human spirit.
A must-do experience! The tour was educational, inspiring, and infuriating all at once.
Did the Robben Island tour and it was incredible! Learned about Nelson Mandela's life, saw the limestone quarry, and soaked up the island's tough history. Guides were great too!
Robben Island was a truly unforgettable experience! The tour guide was knowledgeable about sharing the island's history and thanks to our driver for being on time
Visiting Robben Island was a dream come true! The experience was truly amazing, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to learn about its history and significance.
A tremendous experience of seeing the jail where Nelson Mandela was for 17 years. The tour of the island is very thorough, from the narrated bus tour to the prisoner-guided section of the physical confines of the buildings. The ferry ride was smooth, and the guides are very knowledgeable and super friendly. A must-visit for anyone interested in history.
What a great day! Visiting Robben Island was a sobering experience, yet a powerful reminder of the human spirit's capacity to overcome the most daunting challenges.
The Robben Island tour is a MUST if you visit Cape Town. It is given by old inmates and brings to life the atrocities of apartheid. The tour gets a 5 star. The pre organised tour and driver was a rip off when we got there way too early. The entry fee was 600 ZAR ($55 AUD) per adult not from South Africa. For 2 they charged us $226 AUD. Be organised and book it yourself and get a uber or taxi there thru your hotel (less than $20 AUD) if you are unsure about walking to the waterfront to catch ferry. Tour does sell out so you need to be organised but don't do it thru a tour. Complete rip off. We didn't even get him to drive us back to our hotel as we went out for dinner after. Total waste. BUT the TOUR was AMAZING
Our guide was knowledgeable and passionate, and the tour was well-paced. Visiting Nelson Mandela's cell was a highlight, and I appreciated the opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made during apartheid. The tour was both informative and moving!
I'm so glad I took this tour! The 3.5 hours on Robben Island were incredibly insightful. The history of the island and the apartheid era was absorbing, and I appreciated the emotional depth of the tour.
Had an absolutely incredible day visiting Robben Island, one of South Africa's most historic sites! The tour of the island was fascinating, with our knowledgeable guides bringing the history to life as we explored the former prison where Nelson Mandela was held and others. Highly recommended
Just got back from our Robben Island tour and I'm still pinching myself! Our driver was fantastic - arrived right on time, The tour itself was incredible . Thanks for a great experience!
Richard was a great tour guide / driver! Moving experience especially with the guides on the island.
The trip was very nice but we were overcharged by the trip provider. It should have been provided at half of the price. The tickets were much cheaper if purchased from boarding station. Initially, they did not provide any ticket for my child but allowed her to board ( don’t know how). But she was charged full amount, same as adult, by the trip provider. The pick up and drop service was not any special. We request the driver to wait an hour after returning to V&A Waterfront but he declined.
"Finally, we made it after long-time planning! this was really a good choice,Visiting Robben Island was amazing and inspiring.....
