I booked Theo from Australia and truly could not have chosen a better guide! With so many years of experience, Theo was full of knowledge and information that we soaked up daily. As we wanted a tailored experience, he took us everywhere we wished to go — from a Sunday church service, to a private wine tasting and tour at Babylonstoren Wine Estate, to exploring Table Mountain and the vibrant Bo-Kaap. Wherever we went, Theo ensured our comfort and safety, even staying at restaurants until we were ready to leave so he could see us home safely. He went above and beyond what we asked — from taking our men for a haircut, to suggesting fantastic local spots for lunch, including where we tried Cape Town’s famous Gatsby! By the end of our trip, Theo didn’t just feel like a guide — he felt like family. We are so grateful to have met him and cannot recommend him highly enough. Thank you, Theo. God bless you and your family.
We had such an awesome time with Gilbert on our walking tour of Cape Town. Honestly, he went above and beyond. Not only did he give us so much insight into the history of the city, but he also shared incredible stories from his own childhood and personal experiences, which made it all feel so real and memorable. He took us to meet some amazing people along the way and even pointed out all the must-try food spots l which we definitely appreciated! Can’t recommend him enough, honestly. If you’re thinking about doing a tour, just book with Gilbert. 100% worth it. Thank you so much! Harry 🇦🇺 and Rej 🇩🇪
Gilbert was the perfect guide for our first day in Cape Town. He provided is with a great overview of the city while mixing in the history and points of interest. We loved the fact that he shared family history that brought many of the areas to life and that he tailored the trip to our needs.
Great operator and very passionate and informative and considerate of his clients. Have used With Locals many times and highly recommend
This was a waste of time and energy. We went to District 6 and walked uphill to a university campus, walked by an elementary school and on to Woodstock area which is industrial and boring. We saw nothing of interest. We ended in a street market, but we had to walk quite a ways and past a lot of homeless people. I did not expect a grand tour but this was worthless. I do not recommend this tour at all.
I was very excited for this tour and learning more about the area and history. Unfortunately, our guide never showed up. We reached out and didn’t hear back for over three hours. I definitely understand things happen and can empathize, just wish we had communication to not waste our time. Still waiting for a refund.
The tour with Gilbert was a great experience. we learned many exciting things. He is very sympathic. we would repeat the tour with him at any time.
Kim (taking over from her mom who was poorly so couldn’t do the tour) was lovely. We got along well, but the tour did not fully reflect what i’d paid for. I basically only visited the District Six museum and the Castle of Good Hope, and ended up at the Mill. I did NOT visit the Fugard theatre, St Mary’s Anglican church, the Woodstock exchange and the Heart of Cape Town museum. Definitely not worth the money i spent.
Although a rainy day, Gilbert showed us in about four hours tour all the aspect of district 6 and Woodstock street art. He begun in the City Hall to explain us Cape Town \u2018s history, very important for the rest of the tour.\nHis english is just perfect ! \nThe surprise : tea time with a lovely lady who cooked so amazing doughnuts !\nA perfect afternoon !
We had a very interesting tour in capetown. First a visit to District 6 and later in Woodstock. Gilbert our guide was a very knowledgeable happy person and an enthusiastic one too. We saw another side of town. The koeksisters tasted lovely. A perfect ending of our tour.
Sebastian was our guide and we absolutely loved his easy to listen way of explaining the history of Cape Town He made our tour a fabulous experience
Would of liked to have more history of District 6. Was more just snippets, didn’t go to church as to many homeless people so went to castle instead. The lady was nice but didn’t get a true tour/history of district six.
Thoroughly enjoyed our day with Rushdie. Well versed, great sense of humour, and happy to cater to any of our requests. We hit all the historical spots as well as interesting hidden gems. Loved the samosas and the Bakery! Highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for a fun, and historically informative tour.
Rushdi is very friendly and available person. His knowledge of the history and the current situation and events is amazing. He answered to all our questions and tailored the tour to our interests. He is indeed a good ambassador of his Country. Our Cape Town visit was in January 2020.
We had a fantastic tour with Rushdi, he has just the right balance of great information & humour, all the qualities that a great tour guide needs, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend his tours or use him in the future Thanks again Rushdi
Rushdi was as awesome guide for us, showed us some really interesting places and was very flexible and updated the tour according to our requirements. He answered loads of questions to us and we had an amazing time thanks to him. Our trip was in March 2019 but I could not select this year
I feel so grateful for the contribution of Monwabisi and all the people like him who keep alive the memory of District Six and its shocking story – it's very important to learn from the mistakes made so that they may be avoided in the future. The tour was really enlightening and Monwabisi is a kind and inspiring person, in addition to be an extremely qualified guide. Highly recommended!
Monwabisi was the perfect guy for this tour. We walked to District Six, where we met Gilbert, another guide and decided to join his group. So altogether we went for a great experience at this historical site and after that had an amazing tour through Woodstock, learned a lot about the beautiful murals there and the problems of gentrification. We even visited a family in their home there who kindly told us about their daily life. Monwabisi was both very friendly and communicative and knew a lot about the history of the area. Plus he even dropped me somewhere I needed to go after the tour was finished so didn't have to bother for a taxi. Thank You again.
We are usually not keen on tours since we like to explore everything on our own but we decided to find a tour guide from Withlocals since one the areas we wanted to explore was a bit dodgy for tourists so we choose Gilbert to be our guide. The tour was very interesting and we learned many things which we definitely would end have learned on our own.Gilbert was very knowledgeable, spoke very good english, knew his way around Cape town and was very happy to answer any questions that we had along the way. The day before the tour I contacted Gilbert to ask if we could do some amendments of the tour since there was a place we had visited already and Gilbert had no problem in doing so. We definitely suggest Gilbert to anyone who is searching for a local tour guide to learn more about Capetown's history and about different districts in Cape town. Last but not least Thank you Gilbert !
We had a great morning out walking around District 6 with Caley. She gave us a clear insight into the history of the people who were displaced and how some are returning. We also visited a lovely farmers market with a great range of food and crafts. We really enjoyed our morning with Caley.
Gilbert was very knowledgeable and told us stories with a personal background whilst walking us through (upcoming) neighbourhoods that we wouldn’t have explored by ourselves.
Gilbert was our guide in district six and woodstock. He could tell a lot of stories about the history and past of this area. It was really impressive. We had a very interesting afternoon with Gilbert !!!
If you are interested in the history of District 6, Gilbert is the place to be. He took us through his Neighborhood and places you wouldn't find on your own. We talked to artists who painted the houses and walls, visited social projects and a family . A successful trip, time flew by
District 6 and Woodstock. This tour was given by Gilbert. It is a tour that shows you Cape Town in a different way. The historical events in district 6 and current developments as seen by locals. Conversations with home visits the delicacies and the street art Gilbert discusses in other tours also get attention. The closing with braai in a township completes the day. And absolutely recommended to do.
