I had an incredibly meaningful and eye-opening experience visiting Langa Township. This tour was one of the highlights of our trip and offered such an authentic look into the heart and culture of the community. Our guide was absolutely amazing—knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely passionate about sharing the history, resilience, and spirit of Langa. They answered every question with care and provided deep insight into both the challenges and the strength of the people who live there. What stood out most was the warmth and welcoming nature of the community. Despite the history and hardships, there is such a strong sense of pride, culture, and unity. It was inspiring to witness firsthand. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Cape Town who wants to go beyond the typical tourist experience and truly connect with the local culture. It was respectful, informative, and something I will never forget.

I learned so much, met great residents, myth-busted media coverage of Cape Town townships. District Six museum is a must for understanding apartheid.
This was an excellent tour. We learned so much and it is an important part of the city and the history. I strongly recommend it. Went with my husband and 15 and 17 year old kids.
Wonderful experience to see another perspective and lifestyle of Cape Town and its history. Highly recommended to anyone and everyone because it brings together the reality of the city and the communities within. Vuyo is fantastic - knowledgeable, accommodating, and personable. He made the experience better for my moms.
Excellent and professional service from the moment we were collected from our hotel. The driver /guide Vuyo and township guide Mizo very personable, affable & knowledgeable. It was a pleasure getting to see Langa in the walk about & meet the local residents, the children at a little kindergarten as well as seeing the district 6 museum and memorials in Gugulethu. I especially loved how various buildings were beautified with some excellent graffiti art & the local art gallery. Highly recommended tour.
This was such an amazing experience. It was an afternoon trip and first off our driver/guide took us to the District Six museum. Our guide explained some of the exhibits and had great knowledge of the group areas act and how this impacted the people involved. He then gave us some time to look around on our own. We were then taken to Langa township. We were given lots of history on the way about the passing landmarks and history of Capetown. When we arrived at Langa we were passed to a second guide who took us around, introducing us to the people that live there and explaining the housing system and the ways the community come together to support each other. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend this tour to everyone that visits Cape Town. It’s very easy to pass these townships from the highway and make a judgement. The tour give you real insight into the positivity that thrives in the area and the strength and resilience of the people living there.
Really interesting and informative trip with our guide Hamilton. Great insight into life in the township. While we were happy to overpay for some of the “local crafts“ these are the same crafts available throughout Capetown.
Hamlet our driver was brilliant. He explained the history of apartheid. This was extended when we visited the museum in Cape Town. The trip around the township was very sobering and the people and children were amazing, Thank you Hamlet and the guide that day in the township. Well worth a visit.
This was my best experience here so far. You really have to go into the township to see the truth. It was definitely beyond words. I felt safe the whole time and I’m a solo female traveler. Very nice people.
Tour guides were really friendly and welcoming. Really enjoyed walking around the township and learning.
An amazing, eye-opening experience that is a must do for any travelers to the Cape. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable and had an intimate knowledge of the area and its history. Also must mention the positive effect these tours have for the locals and we felt 100% safe the entire time
It was wonderful experience. The guide knows well about the history of township and many friends there. So when I walk through Langa, I feel no fear. Spots we stopped at are where people live and they are very welcoming tourists. If you join this tour, you’d better bring cash to give it to supportive local people.
Because of a mixup between the office staff and driver we waited an hour and a half before being picked up. Instead of extending the tour to make up for the lost time the tour was rushed and concluded after just over two hours when the tour was supposed to last between three and four hours. The information we received was informative but appeared scripted instead of authentic. Very disappointing.
With only 3 days in South Africa, we wanted to make the most of our trip by booking some tours. Holiday Inn provided us with the African eagle brochure and insured us that the tours were great. That is the furthest thing from the case. Our tour guide NEVER showed up and after many excuses from the travel company a driver showed up and hour late, only to take us to a location where he claimed the group would be. We didn’t pay to meet up with the group after an hour that it had started. Save your time, money and frustration and don’t book with African Eagle.
An amazing time with an excellent guide; professional, informative, encouraged questions. Our first stop was the District 6 museum which explained the group areas act and how residents were forcibly moved out of their homes and relocated to a location. We walked through the township in a group of five, visited a crèche, a traditional healer and a shebeen. The emphasis was on acknowledging the past and looking to a positive future. Excellent.
Knowledgeable and personable guides provide necessary insights into the totality of Cape Town & the South African experience in general. A MUST-DO activity if visiting CPT.
This allowed us to really get inside what might otherwise be a superficial impression of something that might easily trouble you greatly. One has to admire here in Cape Province the efforts of the Democratic Alliance in building homes for the people at the bottom of the heap still suffering the ravages of apartheid; there is real hope here unlike in areas under the governance of the ANC where little effort is being made. On community sites there are dwellings ranging from shanty shacks through hostels (which were used to accommodate just men many miles from their families in the bad days of apartheid) to simple homes for the poorest (with solar heating!) to more expansive houses for higher earners (all things are relative) to really quite smart houses with decent cars outside. The remarkable thing was that these different stiles all exists side by side with no rankling or resentment, and that is because there is real hope for the people bettering themselves under the Democratic Alliance. Everyone of all races is pulling in the same direction. It is really inspiring to see. It shames the UK where there is discord everywhere, everyone is divided and things are going swiftly downhill as was South Africa under Jacob Zuma. We visited a pottery workshop, a workshop making really beautiful mosaics from coloured glasses, a primary school with so many happy toddlers who sang to us, did a walkabout through historic retained older township shops of the shack variety and a museum, dedicated to the riots which started the fall of the apartheid regime. As I say, all without resentment - a humbling experience.
Our guide, Sia, was wonderful, and the tour was incredibly informative. A true glimpse into the lives of South African people living in the districts outside the city created by apartheid.
We did the Township morning tour with Sia, a very knowledgeable and nice guide. He told us loads about history and the township conditions, including modern programmes on improving things. I really appreciated the fact that he had a microphone on while he talked so we could here him well over the traffic and he could concentrate on driving properly.
Sia, our tour guide, from the moment he picked us up (bang on time!) from our hotel to when we were dropped off provided educating, energetic and thoroughly interesting information with a real warmth and a sense of wanting to ensure we all learned from this trip. He, and our guide in the Townships, made sure we were safe and the walking tour parts were eye opening. The highlight was perhaps the church service (we did the tour on a Sunday and attended part of the Methodist church service) but there were so many elements of this half day tour that we will take away with us. It could perhaps seem ghoulish or insensitive to go there, but it is really important to help with an understanding of what has happened here, historically and socially. You will find friendliness, knowledgeable and open people and you're bound to learn something. What makes this so amazing is the personal stories of your guides, which will touch you, and their honest, open approach.
Never seems quite right looking in on the lives of others but this is so educational and the experience so thought provoking. I can't imagine going to Cape Town and ignoring the fact that these townships exist in abject poverty. Max initially took us to the District 6 Museum which was a good starting point to get us in the right frame of thinking. He then took us to the township and handed us over to Ndota who lives in the township. He was brilliant and looked after our safety and explained all about life in the township. Really not to be missed.
Insightful and well organized. Guides are friendly and knowledgeable. A fantastic way to experience the way the other sides lives
Great experience. My guide driver and the guide in Langa introduced me to this Township and the life there. This experience was very enriching and rich in explanations concerning the historical past and the consequences and evolution since the end of apartheid.
Die Tour war sehr interessant, der Tour Guide war sehr gut informiert und hatte viele interessante Details zu berichten. Auch die Township Tour gut gestaltet.
Very rewarding. Everything perfectly arranged incl transport. Engagement driver and guide were excellent. Timetable perfect.
