About Activity
Spend approximately 7.5 hours exploring South Africa's history, from its colonial beginnings to the apartheid era and modern democracy. Begin in the colourful Bo-Kaap (Malay Quarter), where you will learn about Cape Town's early settlement and the origins of racial segregation while walking through its historic cobbled streets.
Continue through District Six, once a thriving multicultural neighbourhood, to understand the impact of forced removals during apartheid. Travel onward to Langa Township, the oldest Black African township in Cape Town, where your guide will share stories of life under apartheid, including the Pass Laws and the 1976 student uprising. Sunday departures also include a visit to a local church service, offering an insight into township community life.
In the afternoon, take a ferry to Robben Island (weather permitting and subject to ferry availability), where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years. The guided tour of this UNESCO World Heritage Site provides a deeper understanding of South Africa's journey to democracy.
Includes: Hotel pick-up and drop-off from Cape Town City Centre, Sea Point, and Green Point, transportation, guided visits to Bo-Kaap, District Six, and Langa Township, Robben Island ferry and guided tour, and a visit to a church service in Langa on Sunday departures.
Please note: Robben Island is subject to weather conditions, ferry schedules, and seat availability. Passport details are required at the time of booking, and travellers must present identification before boarding the ferry. Once confirmed, Robben Island bookings are non-refundable.
