About Activity
Spend approximately 8.5 hours exploring South Africa's journey from apartheid to democracy. Begin with a ferry to Robben Island (weather permitting and subject to ferry availability), where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years. A guided tour of this UNESCO World Heritage Site offers insight into its significance as a symbol of resilience, freedom, and justice. Return to Cape Town and continue with a guided tour of the Cape Flats, visiting the communities of Bonteheuwel and Athlone, where you will learn about the anti-apartheid struggle and the lives of local activists. Enjoy a light lunch featuring the famous local street food, the Gatsby, before visiting the sites associated with Ashley Kriel and Anton Fransch, as well as the Trojan Horse Memorial, which commemorates one of the most significant tragedies of the apartheid era. The tour concludes at Cape Town City Hall, where Nelson Mandela delivered his first public speech after his release from prison in 1990.
Includes: Hotel pick-up and drop-off from Cape Town City Centre, Sea Point, and Green Point, transportation, guided Robben Island tour, light street food lunch, visits to the Trojan Horse Memorial, and the historical sites associated with Ashley Kriel and Anton Fransch.
Please note: Robben Island is subject to weather conditions, ferry schedules, and seat availability. Passport details are required at the time of booking, and travellers must present identification before boarding the ferry. Once confirmed, Robben Island bookings are non-refundable.
