We had a great time. Delicious wines, good array of pairing items. Fantastic guide

Nasty experience booked for 10 of us and we opted to be picked up at a location provided by Viator for 0830 and we arrived 0815 and we were told bus has gone at 0720 We paid for a mini bus to catch up with the train .paid 2000 rands for 20 of us 200 rands each On arrival it got worse booking is very clear for 10 people We were told you paid for 9 I had all.the evidence and emails The ticket operator would not listen had to.purchase tenth ticket This experience was not good with Viator . The wine tasting itself was ok we did not see the way the wine was made I.wouldnt recommend anyone to boom with Viator they are dodgy I need my money back for 10th ticket and need the 2000 rand we paid for taxi as we did not use the bus as agreed on the online booking
A lovely trip despite the bad weather which restricted the wine tasting to be taken indoors. Due to a delay in setting off from our initial pickup point, we missed the first tram/bus which resulted in waiting approximately 40 minutes for the next one. This then made it extremely hard to visit any more than 3 vineyards(we had planned 4). Apart from that, a very enjoyable and good value for money excursion
The whole experience is very nice ! We love this activity and experience. Love the flexibility and food and wine. We would do it again!
we visited 3 wineries and they tried to vary the experience - tasting with charcuterie, tasting with lunch (purchased on your own), tasting with dessert and one winery did a mini cellar tour. We started with wine and dessert and not necessarily saying that's a bad thing for some of us !! Very clearly a mass experience (we got there on a bus, right ?) If you don't know much about wine, it was a good introduction. The wine and dessert pairing was perfectly sized. The charcuterie was pretty skimpy but probably okay if you ate a big lunch at the previous stop. With the lunch stop, no water was provided unless you paid for it; some of us had big breakfasts, so weren't hungry, and having a wine tasting without water is not a good thing. The little walking tour was great. Keith, the tour guide, was very knowledgeable and had great explanations, so I'm sure many people learned a lot. Our drive, Bobbiseli (sp?) was very safe and had to become a plumber midway through the trip ..... Since we started at stop 5 and were expecting to return there, the arrangements were a bit frantic and hopefully everyone got to where they needed to be.
Very good if wine is your prerence just too short. Unfortunately cannot visit all wine farms in one day .
I had a wonderful time. Be sure to plan ahead, on what wine farms to visit. I wanted more time on less estates, so chose to do the tram without hopping off, and then two hours at two wine estates, reached by the tram-bus. Britinney has a beautiful view, but not all waiters where all that friendly unfortunately. All other staff related to transport was very nice and friendly. Very beautiful tour that I highly recommend.
We visited in Autumn (May). We started early, taking the Orange Line tram and enjoying several vineyards, including Babylonstoren, Bacco Estate, Vrede en Lust and Plaisir. We especially enjoyed the airy tasting room and sharing snacks at Babylonstoren and the Italian feel of Bacco. The timetable is a little confusing to get your head around, so we would recommend spending some time planning your visits in advance of your trip. Overall, this is a fun and novel way to see the winelands - we would strongly recommend to any visitors over self-drive or taxi options.
Brilliant experience, very well organised, fun and lovely way to see the wine farms. Lovely staff who were helpful and welcoming.
Great experience!! The hospitality was great! We had a lovely wine tasting experience. We also experience gin tasting and that was amazing!!!
greatest experience of our lives
I enjoyed my experience so much & would highly recommend this!
The experience was amazing and we had fun. My only concern was the time management wasn’t so good as we wanted to atleast visit 4 wine estates we end up with 3 because the time wasn’t enough for an entire day
Absolutely loved the Franschhoek Hop-On Hop-Off Wine Tram! Definitely one of the highlights of my Cape Town trip. The wine estates were beautiful, and the communication from the drivers and staff was great. The only downside was that it wasn’t communicated that some route lines aren’t available on Sundays-we only saw the green line on our tickets. Otherwise, we had an amazing time and would definitely recommend the experience!
Amazing experience Was so much fun Highly recommended
Wonderful time and amazing service at each winery! Generous pours and great snacks throughout. Met some wonderful new friends and had a great time with family
I can’t fault our day out! It was so well organised, staff were on hand to answer any questions and give us recommendations based on our circumstances. I was also very impressed with the level of service in that we were originally booked to do the trip on the Sunday but our daughter had been very ill the night before and we didn’t think we could get her on the coach and tram for the day, I emailed and the team came back pretty much straight away and offered to change it to the Monday. It was all so easy and we really appreciated this as we would simply not have enjoyed the Sunday as much had we not been able to change so I thank you for your flexibility and also the speedy responses, it honestly helped make our trip that much more care free and enjoyable. The wineries we visited were all well presented and you had a wide selection, my 11 year old thinks she got treated like a queen with the kiddie options also! Thank you so much, we have recommended this day to anyone who hasn’t yet been.
Amazing experience with Ashley , Jona and the tea.
Brilliant experience from start to finish, we chose the blue line and it was perfect, everything was really well explained on the day with pick up times from vineyards etc. very smooth journey to and from Cape Town, would definitely recommend
If I’m honest I found some of this day a little confusing, but overall we had a great time. The first confusion was being issued a ticket for the Green line when we had booked for the Blue line - still not sure what happened here as we just decided to go with the flow as we weren’t too fussed. But not sure why that happened. The second confusion was around the timing for trams and pick ups. You only get an hour at each stop - but once you get off the tram you have to take a bus anyway (our first stop for around 7/8 mins journey) which really eats in to your time. A big group went to the first stop from the tram and so service was slower and we had to wait two hours instead. Third confusion was really about the timing overall - we felt like we needed an extra hour or two (and the timetables would have accommodated this) to maximise our time at different estates. In the end we only managed to visit two as we wanted to enjoy where we were, and also the tram as best as we could. Overall we genuinely did have a really great day and the daily specials are excellent value for trying fantastic wine at a super affordable rate. The tram is quite special and a really nice thing to do. They should just really have them timetabled for on the half hour rather than the hour in an ideal world. We would definitely recommend this trip, but would suggest doing some of the bus first options rather than tram first as these will likely be quieter and your service therefore a bit quicker, and let you move on to the next estate so you can experience more than we did! You’ll still get to do the tram but we reckon from our experience this might be more efficient.
So much fun!! The bus and tram rides are short and you can see the country side. Grande Provence is a must! Wished we would have ate lunch here. Do the bus first and then tram!
I came with my 11-year-old son. He enjoyed the child tasting menu at Boschendal (tram) and hanging out by the creek at Allée Bleue (tram bus). Not many places have child tasting menus, so definitely stop at Boschendal if you bring kids.
The company was on time and efficient. We visited 3 wineries I think it would be very hard and rushed to do 5. The tour needed another hour in the region. Overall would go again it was hassle free.
Well organised tour, always best to manage your time well if you intend to visit a number of the vineyards.
Well organized. Friendly staff. Be aware that it’s an hour and a half bus ride each way. Do your homework ahead of time to have a strategy for which places you want to visit and how you’re going to do the timing
I've probably been on over a hundred tours across different countries and this was the first time ever I was refused to be picked up while being on time at the designated stop. There is a GREAT chance YOU WILL MISS your pickup too. Do not underestimate the risk and choose some other tour company! The problem is they send you the bus under a different brand thinking you are somehow supposed to magically figure out it's your bus. They don't call you, they don't message you, they simply leave without you. Moreover, their utterly rude and disgusting support agents will act like it's your fault cause you weren't there on time (we were there on time standing right next to their bus, we simply had no idea it was our bus cause it was branded under a different tour company). DO NOT BELIEVE A WORD they say! We were able to make it to the tour bus by taking an Uber to the other stop but the mood was ruined for the whole day due to rudeness and incompetence we had to face.
The old saying ‘couldn’t organise a p*** up in a brewery’ suits the wine tram perfectly. We arrived on time and got on a rickety old bus with missing windows and were told they would be making a stop at a new winery, we could either stay for an hour or 5 minutes. Except the winery didn’t open until after 10am and we were there about 9.15am. Everyone got off the bus to get a bit of relief from the terrible seats and were waiting alongside the bus for them to tell us 5 minutes were up and if we wanted to get back on to do so. After about 2 minutes the bus drove off, we thought it was just to turn around and would be back to pick us up but no it drove off and left us there!!!!!! Everyone thought they would be back very soon but no bus so I called the office and after some discussion they called me back to say another bus was coming. We thought ok one mistake and carried on to enjoy the wineries. In the afternoon we got off the tram at the second last winery and were told on the tram we could stay one hour but when we got off the bus that took us from the tram to the winery we were told we had to be back in 40 minutes so quick drink and we were back on the bus to find out that it was for the tram going in the opposite direction to where we got off so we stayed on for a bit of a ride and eventually made it to our last winery. The ride back to Franschhoek in the bus from the tram was cold and draughty, very unpleasant. The bus had no windows just open holes, they need to put in some sort of cover for the openings for colder days. We never received our welcome drink and the day was ruined because of the two mix ups we had. We were not happy at all and the worst was no one apologised for the mix ups on their part. They do this every day, surely they know what to do.
Had an amazing experience. Never knew Cape Town was so beautiful? I definitely want to do it againnn
Everything was well organized and top notch
This was the easiest way to arrange a nice and comfy ride to the wine tram/bus from Cape Town and back, and to still get to go to the wineries at the top of my list! I was able to get some kind of food at every stop (cheese plate, oysters, bread service, full charcuterie spread), and tastings were much better priced than anticipated. I did 4 stops, which could have been 5, but I loved my 3rd stop so much I stayed 2 hours! If you want to be able to plan your stops, skip the barreling tours, and just enjoy good wines, this is the way to go! I’d definitely do some research first on your top 2-4 wineries on the lines, pick a line, and then decide if you want to do the tram or the bus first (I did tram and was able to do 2 relatively quick). I loved this because I got to dictate which winery I wanted to spend more or less time at. Beautiful experience.
Good selection of pickup points around cape town. The coach journey was pleasant and on the way back you arrive at v and a and there is a bus that heads back to the Atlantic seaboard - turns out it was an open top bus which was cool. This excursion is not a guidrd tour but a comfy, safe and affordable way to get to the tram. I travelled by myself and met friends at the tram station. When you get there you are on your own to pick your vineyards etc. We left sea point 8.20 got there just after 10 and the coach home left 16.30 arriving back (sea point) around 18.30 Had a great time - did the blue line and managed to get in the cheese pairing at Franschoek Cellar, wine tasting at Rickety Bridge along with a tasty lunch at their restaurant, and a quick drink at Le Provence (note you ride a tractor here! A nice surprise). We went in autumn and it was a lovely sunny day and fhe vineyards still looked charming 😍 My advise is pick a few places to go so you are not rushing. Trams leave each vineyard every 30mins and you will be given a time table upon arrival. The staff on the tram will advise you on timings so you are back in time for coach home. Was anxious I wouldn't have time for Provence but was assured I would be fine, and I was 😀 Highly recommend this if you are looking for a safe and affordable transfer from the city and are keen to plot your own route.
This was a special experience. We spent a week in South Africa and this was our last experience. It made our entire trip. What a memorable ending to a wonderful experience. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for the most gorgeous views in all of South Africa and anyone who enjoys the best wine in the world. 10/10!!
Confusion on the tickets then about bus needed instead of tram to first vineyard. Timetable given out in Cape Town didn’t match timetable given out at tram terminal.
Well organized from the moment we got at the pickup point, everything was well organized, the staff on the tour was friendly and always willing to help.
Excellent well organised trip. Great value & a good variety of vineyard stops. Really good value for money day out.
The Franschhoek area was beautiful with wonderful wineries. While the pickup location was very convenient, the start time was about 30 minutes later than what the booking indicated. Not a huge deal, but breakfast would not have been as rushed had we known. Rickety Bridge tasting was an excellent value. The wines were very nice, the service was excellent. The tram made it very easy and convenient to get around. The bus transfer was a long drive but the bus was comfortable and the informational recording was interesting.
The Wine Tram and Bus experience was a lot of fun! A neat way to explore the wine region. Wineries were beautiful and views were stunning. The only confusion was when we first arrived, we were given stickers and a ticket without much information. It would be helpful to have a tutorial about how to navigate the tram/buses on the long bus ride there. We also had to go back up and ask for additional stickers as we saw we only got one and other people had two. Had we not done that we wouldnt have been able to ride on one of the transportation modes.
Great experience and lots of fun. A must do in Franschoek.
This is basically just a transport. You make your own wine tasting experience. It.was nice to experience it, but it's just a ride to wine country.
Great day out, whole event was superbly organised and ran like clockwork Its a must do if you visit Cape Town
Be on time. Ensure that you don’t miss any of the stops to have/enjoy a full day. Dress up comfortable if the weather says it will be hot
All went well from the bus in Cape Town to the tram and bus in Franschoek. The wineries were really nine and had beautiful vistas.
Beatiful experience from start to finish Nice wines, Get as Drunk as Possible.. they will make sure you get home safe😅😅😅 Get dr
Great day out. Family friendly. Everything was run on time. A good amount of time was allowed between pick ups from the wineries by the bus and tram. The wineries were beautiful and so was the scenery. Perfect weather helped. Wine was lovely. If you want to eat lunch at the winery the make sure you reserve a table. They get very busy. The coach back to Cape Town was very comfortable and had wifi.
This trip is such good fun. The tram or bus (it depends which vineyards you wish to visit ) drops you off and comes back precisely one hour later to pick you up. The buses are super punctual so it works like clockwork. Each vineyard gives you a choice of wines and tasty snacks to accompany the wines. All for a bargain price of less than £10 per head per vineyard. Many of the vineyards are in really beautiful locations - so even if you’re not drinking it’s a really nice way to see outside the city if you’re visiting Cape Town.
Amazing experience! Research the stops beforehand to plan accordingly and be punctual!
This was a great experience. Do take your own money along, as you pay for your tastings at the different estates. The time in-between the pick up is rushed though, it's impossible to finish all the 6 or 7 assigned estates in 1 day. A wholesome and lovely experience.
Cluio really looked after us! Will definitely recommend to any friends visiting Cape Town because of her :)
The day was fantastic the wine tour itself was great but had issues with pick up at the pick up point the driver never turned up so had to get a uber to the terminal and they were supposed to to explain how the day proceed but nobody did and had to work it out by ourselves and help from others on our tour so they could improve on those things but otherwise a fantastic day
I really enjoyed this your and the concept of exploring the wineries via a hop on hop off tram and bus is fantastic! It was well organised on the day and worked seamlessly. There was a good range of wineries to visit and the wineries were well prepared for the tram. I would have liked more details in advance, as it is even hard to follow in the actual website. Each stop is for one hour. The maximum wineries (for our line and timetable) was four, though three was more like the reality. Knowing this in advance, and which wineries are tram vs bus, you could do a bit more research and plan your day.
