This wine tour did not disappoint! Everything except lunch was included and the winery we had lunch at may have been my favorite out of all. Definitely a great buy!!! My tour guide Roland was hilarious and an amazing tour guide. I think everyone enjoyed him so much. Would 100% recommend this tour to anyone wanting to participate in a wine tour.

Great wine tour. Manfred was very knowledgeable on the wine and history of the region. We visited several wineries and tasted some exquisite wines and cheese. Incredible views!! A must see
Driver Chris was good we had fun it was fantastic day. Haven for wine lover. Highly recommended Worth it
I cannot recommend African Eagle Day Tours based on my experience. To be fair, the airport pickup and airport transfer services were punctual and professional, and I have no complaints about those services. The problem was with the Wine Route Full Day tour that we took on May 11, 2026, during a major storm in the Cape Town area. Before the tour, I contacted African Eagle several times to ask whether the tour would still operate due to the weather conditions. Each time I was informed that the tour would proceed as scheduled. Unfortunately, the tour was a major disappointment. Significant portions of the advertised experience did not take place due to weather-related closures and disruptions. While I understand that the weather was beyond the company's control, I believe customers should be informed when a tour can no longer deliver a substantial part of what was advertised and should be given the option to cancel or reschedule. The driver, Denve (or similar spelling), was excellent. He remained professional, positive, and helpful throughout a very difficult day, and he was the highlight of the experience. After the tour, I contacted African Eagle to request a partial refund for the services that were not delivered. On May 12, 2026, I was informed in writing via WhatsApp that a 50% refund had been approved. The company proposed delivering the refund in cash to my hotel, and later agreed to send it with the driver who was scheduled to take us to the airport the following day. However, the driver arrived without any refund, and despite my subsequent follow-up messages, I received no further response and no refund was ever provided. My dissatisfaction is not primarily because of the storm. Weather events happen. My concern is that the tour proceeded despite major disruptions, that a 50% refund was formally approved, and that the approved refund was never delivered. Based on these facts, I cannot recommend this company.
Zim was a great driver - very friendly looked after us and despite being late finishing at the last winery was a gracious host - thank you
We were a little disappointed with this tour. We have an 11 year old daughter and had originally not planned to do a wine tour because didn’t feel that it would be of any interest to her. However, we were sold the tour from our hotel representative as she convinced us that they cater for children by giving them different grape juices to try so they feel as if they are part of the experience, however this was not true. At all three wine estates we had to ask for something for her to drink and she was just given coke or appetiser, so this was very disappointing and she was really bored. The other family we were with had someone who was also not drinking the wine and they were not offered any alternative. We thought we would get a bit more of a tour of the estates but it was all a rather rushed affair. This is no reflection on our tour guide who was helpful and we enjoyed seeing the scenery.
We completed the full day wine tour with African Eagle. It was the perfect way visit three local wineries with a driver! Our driver was friendly and knowledgeable about the wineries and the area. The wineries selected were picturesque! Leave the driving to African Eagle and enjoy the wine tasting!
Our guide was not very knowledgeable about anything (albeit very sweet). We had been on several other excursions booked through other companies where the guides were much better. The day was pretty much ruined by a disastrous lunch experience. We had been told when we booked that we would have a choice for lunch, but I suspect that our guide receives kickbacks or some other compensation for basically forcing us into having lunch at the Marianne wine estate (which I have reviewed separately). This was a catastrophe on several levels. Not only did we have to wait HOURS to be served (I am not exaggerating) but when the food finally arrived, it was inedible. We had no choice but to eat it at that point, since we still had another wine tasting to go to. Because of the terrible service at Marianne, we missed the wine tram in Franschoek so our guide had to drive us directly to the next wintery instead. We then didn't have the time to visit Franschoek either. I find it interesting that on the drop-down list of tours to rate, the one we booked is not listed. It was called "Explore the winelands - Full day". AVOID. There are much better options out there.
Tony was AMAZING and gave us the valuable experience we were seeking! Thank you for your insight and for a wonderful day!!
Pick-up was 20+ minutes late and did not try to contact me at all. Activity listed for an 8:30 start, they weren’t ready to pick me up until closer to 9:20. Ended up requesting a refund and cancellation due to all of the issues. Company claimed they would cancel and provide full refund (have screenshots) but still no info or confirmation of it being processed. I do not recommend. For an all day (9hour) activity, I was told by others who attended as well as the company rep that they only visit 3 wineries. Less expensive and more efficient/timely to go by yourself.
This winetour started with 10/10 at the first wineyard. Very nice tasting with cheese with the different wines. Second stop was at Mariannes 5/10, nice views and ok wines, then lunch in Franschoek and then a small touristtrain to last stop wich was 1/10. Totally unintrested wine staff. Our tour guide was excellent but the driver had a poor driving... My personal suggest is that a half day tour is better.
Great driver/guide who was amusing and informative. The vineyards were ok but some of the wines were not the best (particularly Rickety Bridge). The tram was a joke!…on the tram about 5 minutes at most. The transport was cramped and uncomfortable.
Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and very friendly to us and very helpful in all aspects and would recommend him to anyone who wants to use a tour guide
Full day experience, would have love more time on the Wine Tram because it’s unique and old tradition.
First time moment , great wine tasting..Good scenery along the way. I loved stellenbosch more, the white paintings ro the buildings.
Amazing tour with different wines and history. Thanks a lot to our guide Charles for making it interesting, as well as to Thandu for getting us there and back safe.
Loved Perdeberg's new sparkling wines. Pineapple, strawberry, blueberry and cream soda infused.
The guide was friendly and informative, telling about the history of the wine estate there. The tastings were very good as well, and the staff were helpful.
Tour was good but felt a bit rushed. There wasn’t time to walk around any of the first two wineries and it felt like we were being hustled around the whole day. I think it could have been better with one less winery and more time to have a leisurely trip in wine country. Also the driver was extremely fast and aggressively rash, so not exactly what you’d want after a few glasses of wine.
Booked at the last minute and so happy! Commentary was excellent. Loved the free time with all the wine tasting included.
We loved the wineries and the overall scenery was incredible, however we had major problems with our tour guide Dillon, who was unfortunately very rude towards some guests. He rushed the whole group from one winery to another making it impossible to enjoy some time after the tasting checking out the shop to get souvenirs or taking pictures of the landscape, personal conversations not being allowed and shut down over van speakers and a lot of arguing with guests and trying to be right. Overall we didn't feel welcome on the tour since the first stop and shut up the rest of the day to avoid being expelled in the middle of nowhere.
The tour guide was rude we us and also he rushed us all the time, not having time to properly taste the wine. I would not recommend this tour.
The wineries were wonderful, no complaints there! But over a 9 hour tour, our group spent a total of 2hours and 40 mins at wineries (less than 33% of the time). Please note, if you are going as a group, book together, as our team booked individually and were broken up over 3 vans. We were unable to switch vans (insurance reasons which is understandable) and the drivers were unwilling to coordinate timing (i.e arriving and leaving wineries at the same time). The driver we had was quite disrespectful at one point telling us we had 10 mins until we had to leave, even though we were only on wine 3 of 5, causing not only the winery staff to rush their presentations, but we were chugging wine rather than tasting. On top of this, he made comments along the lines of while filling out job applications where he would have to fill out his sex that he puts '5 times a day'. He was also incredibly disrespectful to the young women on the tour with us, as they were speaking in the back at a respectful level as to not disrupt the group (I was one seat in front of them and could barely hear them) and he not only yelled/argued with them in front of the entire group (over the van's loud speaker), also pulled over and talked himself down from kicking us off on the side of the road in a rural area. To be fair, this is not indicative of the full tour, as the other two van drivers I heard were quite pleasant. If you are looking to drive through wine country with just a little bit of wine, this tour will work perfectly. If you enjoy wine and want to take your time and enjoy the actual wineries, skip the tour and take the wine trolley from Franschhoek and go winery hopping. I plan on going back to the wineries because I did really enjoy them and I look forward to spending more than 50 mins at each.
The day was spectacular. We had a wonderful group and a wonderful tour guide! It was lovely to see the countryside as well as taste the wines!
The guide was just magnificent during the entire wine tour. He didn’t explain only about the wine estates, but also about the history of his country. The van was good for this type of group excursions.
Reginald was the best! Professional, informative, and friendly. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Cape Town that is drinks wine. 10 out of 10‼️
I was disappointed with my tour. The guide was lovely and he was informative within the car, these scenery and wineries were lovely. But the information at the wineries was limited and the wine was also limited. I found the gaps between the wineries was too big, the day seemed slow. The middle winery (the frog one) seemed like they couldn't be bothered. I paid for this tour rather than the tram as I felt I'd get a more all round experience and I just found it to be lacking. Also when we went to order a proper sized glass in the 3rd stop they were already closed. I felt this a shame as the scene was amazing.
The trip was fun, the guides were experienced and helpful. German and English. They made sure that we were not inconvenienced by the strike and brought us home safely. Thank you!
Our tour was fantastic! We had an incredible time driving around wine country outside of Cape Town. Our tour guide and Winery greeters were polite, passionate and a pleasure. Highly recommend for all grape fans!
I had an amazing time on this tour! The three wineries we visited were all really good, and it was great seeing the beautiful wine country scenery. I felt that I had the perfect amount of time at each stop and never felt rushed or bored. Our car was very comfortable and our driver was very knowledgeable and entertaining.
Love this wine tour! I didn’t like all the taste of the wine but I enjoyed the tasting hahaha it was fun experience for me. We visited 3 vineyards. The first one was tasting the wine with some cheeses then 2nd vineyard was Marianne estate I enjoyed picking up lemons haha it’s a nice view there. We had fun with taking the tram and last was rickety wine tasting. Great experience
The tour guide for African Eagle did an excellent job! The tour was informative, and entertaining. He went over and above to ensure we had a great experience. I would highly recommend them. :)
This tour was absolutely amazing! Maxwell was so engaging and shared so much information about every sight. I met so many great people as well. I’ll be doing this tour again when I come back
In all honesty, if I could give this tour 4.5 stars, I would. We were picked up on time by Denver, who was a wonderful guide. We started at Zevenvecht, where four wines were wonderfully paired with four cheeses. We then went to Marianne estate which was absolutely stunning beyond belief. The view of the mountains with the vineyards in front was beautiful. The wines were good but not incredible. It did come with paired biltong, a form of South African jerky of beef, kudu and springbok. Then we next did the wine tram, this was a highlight. So much fun for two stops, followed by a super fun tractor ride to Rickety Bridge. Rickety Bridge was where we had lunch (pizza and/or meat and cheese platter) and enjoyed four more wines. Pros- loved visiting 3 different vineyards The food pairings were great. Views were beautiful. Wine tram was a unique and wonderful experience. Cons- we didn’t eat lunch until 4pm. There is a stop in the town of Stellenbosch and Denver mentioned we could get a snack but no one had any idea lunch was gonna be at 4pm. My advice is to definitely get a large snack because this planning wasn’t ideal. This really was a fun tour!
Disappointed. Driver one hour late in arriving. Wines were hoo hum. No free water offered on bus. Tram experience a joke - one block ride to dirt road then taken up to restaurant on a tractor ride. Two parts of your skipped! Don’t waste your money
The African Eagle driver was very knowledgeable, the Zevenwacht & Marianne wineries visited were also very welcoming & informative, the scenery in the winelands is exceptional. Maybe needed a little more time to see more of Stellenbosch & Franschoek
We were travelling on a cruise ship and had booked to full day wine tour for one of our days in Cape Town. The info we had received was that we'd be picked up outside the cruise terminal at 8.40am. We came out of the terminal at 8.30am in case the guide was early as we don't like to keep people waiting. It was a nightmare scenario to find anyone - hundreds of people had just disembarked from another ship, piles of luggage, coaches, buses, taxis everywhere. We saw guides for other tour companies holding up signs, but no one from African Eagle. And there was more than one exit from the terminal. We walked round and round and found an 'African eagle' mini bus. So, I waited there while my husband walked round looking for the driver without success. Eventually we made some very expensive calls to the African Eagle Office and were told that the mini bus we had found wasn't the right one. We were told to go to one of the exits - but a few minutes later were told to go to a different one. At 9.10am we finally found our driver, Maxwell - we don't know what time he'd arrived, but we'd have found him a lot sooner if he'd had a sign. He was laughing and relaxed, but we were incredibly frustrated and the people who'd waiting on the mini bus must have been too. The intercom on the mini bus wasn't working very well initially, so it was difficult to hear the info we were being told on the journey to the first winery. We did enjoy the wineries, the lovely scenery and the short trip on the wine tram. The stop in Stellenbosch Town was 30 minutes and we enjoyed sightseeing in that time. The stop in Franschoek was longer. Most of our fellow travellers went to a restaurant there for lunch, but we used the time to explore the town and were pleased we did as it was very quaint. We also found the Huguenot memorial and took photos -which was fortunate as we thought we were going to see this afterwards as part of our tour- but we didn't. We did see the statue of Mandela outside the prison on our way back from the last winery. So, overall we had a good day but felt it could have been a better experience.
If I could give 3.5 here I would Inbetween average and very good Guide was cheerful and a nice enough chap and on time when collecting but after a while he did waffle. I came in this trip because I don’t know much about wine and wanted to learn about it. Shopping time in a stop off point I can do anytime, this was a vineyard tour. 3 vineyards part of the trip. Stop 1 Was the most thorough, see the room with the barrels, then sit down and try a white a rose and a red. Hints of caramel, vanilla, strawberry etc, little did we know that as the day went on it was going to be the same script but more progressively rushed on each stop. Stop 2. Lovely place, sommelier there trying to manage a room with different tours all at once -didn’t get to try all the wines we were supposed to be trying before being ushered out to go to the lunch stop half an hour away. Stop 3 (after lunch) tram ride through beautiful countryside, lovely, venue exquisite and reminding me of an old colonial place you see in the films I’m glad we did the trip and the guys were nice folks but I must be honest and say I’ve come back still not knowing anything about wines other than they all have the same aromas apparently There was a real international mix of people which was cool, the impromptu stop to see the Nelson Mandela prison where he was released from was a nice touch too. The guide was a nice guy and was there throughout. I blame the company more than the employees here, they need better planning and should make it more educational insisting that enough and equipped sommeliers are in attendance and able to educate Feedback for the African Eagle company that organised this trip, the review form that you are asked to complete is more of an assessment of the guide’s performance than an opportunity for them to get feedback on the trip itself. From this I get the impression that they’re not the best company to work for and I’d wager guides come and go here if that’s what they’re more concerned about than genuine feedback which I hope they’ll benefit from if any of their hierarchy get to see this.
Touring three wine producing areas around Cape Town was fantastic. Cornelia, our guide, was amazing. She was cheerful, enthusiastic, and a wealth. of information. She accommodate our request to visit Fairview, which produces amazing goat cheese along with the wine. The tasting room at Fairview was top notch. Marianne vineyards produces amazing wines, the Pinotage was delicious. And pairing the wines with local "biltong" (jerky) was a treat. Overall an excellent tour, a must for those curious about wines, and seeing a bit of the countryside of Cape Town.
TRUST THE OTHER LOW RATINGS. I was in SA for a month and through all the ups and downs this is the only experience I would actively advise other travelers to avoid. The routes were poorly planned, the guide did not book our tickets for the tram in advance and we arrived to discover they were sold out for the time we were supposed to be departing (delaying and short-cutting the rest of our afternoon). I think this could hardly be described as a tour of wine country when the tram ride was 10 minutes and only 3 wine farms are included. For any travelers concerned about having to plan out the afternoon or hoping to avoid someone in your group being forced to sit out on the tastings for the sake of designated driving, do yourself a favor and either drive yourself or Uber to the tram station (or find a different tour). I guarantee the cost of an Uber from even an hour+ away combined with the cost of tastings is still infinitely less than you would pay for this (and you won’t have to risk your guide rushing you through tastings/ not booking lunch or tram reservations). And if you read this whole review and attribute my experience to a bad guide, you’re partly correct, but in my experience it was obvious the management and planning overall was also to blame
Great tour with nice wines but the 3rd winery was a bit of a let down after the first two were so good - so a half day tour would have done it.
We had an experienced guide Rob who made the trip experience great. Plenty of local information shared making it much more than a wine 🍷 tasting. Best experience was at the Marianne winery with 2006 wine Floreal.
Very good tour with nice people and dedicated guide. The scenery was fantastic and the wine tasting good. It’s a good overview
A great way to visit the different vineyards and wine regions, comfortable transport and convenient pick up and drop off to/from your hotel. Basil our guide for the day was very informative and attentive throughout the day. The combination of food and wine pairings at a couple of the vineyards as well as experiencing a short wine-tasting tram ride in Franschhoek was a perfect balance. A fun day out and some free time in the different towns for a quick walkabout and/or bite to eat. Highly recommend this if you like wine, cheese, biltong and the outdoors!
This was a brilliant tour from start to finish! We were picked up from our accommodation in Cape Town before heading to Zevenwacht, Marianne, and Rickety Bridge Wine Estates for tastings. We had brief stops in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek towns which were both nice for a quick explore but that was enough. Our guide, Maxwell, gave us a lot of history as we drove and was so patient and friendly which are definitely needed for a wine tour! Definitely do the full-day as you feel completely relaxed and not at all rushed
Great day touring the the vine yards. Basil was our guide, and was very informative on the history of Cape Town and the townships whilst on our way to the vine yards. We stopped at one vine yard in each location, sitting on verandas over looking the vine yards and mountains to look around the barrels etc. we had a good wonder around stellenboch and had a good hour extra in franschhoek for lunch before the wine tram and a glass of something lovely. Great full day out. Would recommend this trip as get a good flavour of the wine regions of South Africa.
The group was amazing, Maxwell our guide was fantastic and very knowledgeable. Enjoyed the whole day with the group and everything was well planned. Highly recommended
Reginald was an excellent guide, kept us on time and the wine farms chosen were great. The service at Rickety Bridge was slow and wine presentation was lacklustre in comparison to the rest but this did not detract from the experience as a whole. Would have loved to have had more time on the wine tram instead of photo ops at random monuments, or less time could have been spent on lunch/wandering around towns. But overall it was a great way to see three major wine regions and would recommend the experience.
Amazing trip into a beautiful countryside in the South African Wineland. Excellent guide in Chris and a diversity in travel companions from various countries made the day unforgettable. The three wine producing sites were as taken from an old romantic painting and majority of the wines were excellent. Great fun with the tram and that old Massey Ferguson picking us up from the tram station and crossing the fields to get us to the last wine farm. Would most certainly do the trip again ! And for sure I will look for some South African wine when getting home
This was amazing. A wine tour that will leave you nothing to whine about. Guide was a legend, every place was beautiful with great wine. A truly amazing day!
