Itinerary
You will be collected from your Hotel/Guesthouse and drive along the R27 on this private Cape West Coast tour. You will pass through Bloubergstrand (translation: Blue Mountain) and Big Bay. From this area, you will have one of the best views and photo opportunities of the majestic Table Mountain and a clear view of Robben Island.
Turning off the R27 towards the R307 we head towards Darling, passing the towns of Atlantis and Mamre. In Darling you will do some Olive Tasting.
From there you will continue on the R315 and re-connect with the R27 for a stop at !Khwa ttu. Take a San people cultural experience starting at 10:00 am with the following highlights: This is a fascinating insight into the culture, heritage, knowledge and modern-day life of the San of southern Africa led by a qualified San Tour Guide. The San people will show off their skills, share their ancient knowledge about history, tracking animals and identifying plants. You will learn words in some of their languages. This experience provides an opportunity for you to listen to accurate accounts of the past and present lives of the San.
Back on the R315, only during Whale season, you will drive toward the fishing village of Yzerfontein, where you may be lucky to view some Whales.
From there you'll proceed to the West Coast National Park. It is said that here is where Eve’s footprint was discovered – one of the earliest discoveries of human existence. One can also view animals and a large community of birds at this park. Flowers are the most beautifully bloomed (the Daisies create carpets of flowers) in the Springtime (August and September).
A short drive after departing from the National Park, you'll reach the town of Langebaan. This is one of the oldest towns in South Africa and also known as the JEWEL of the Cape West Coast. It is a popular holiday destination for South Africans.
After optional lunch along the way either in Langebaan or Paternoster (at own expense) you will make your way back via the R45. Along this route, you will stop at the West Coast Fossil Park for a look at the greatest diversity of 5 million-year-old fossils.
Pass Langebaanweg Airforce Base (flying school), the town of Hopefield (optional stop at Simply Bees Wax for Honey) and the Wheat and Canola region of Moorreesburg and Malmesbury. Guests have the option of the Wheat museum in Moorreesburg, Wine tasting in Malmesbury or see the ostriches at the Ostrich Farm in Philadelphia before you arrive in Cape Town. You will be dropped off at your Hotel/Guesthouse in Cape Town at the end of the tour. For the adventurous, there are numerous options from Horseback Riding Canopy tours to Sea Kayaking and Sky Diving on this Cape West Coast.

Our driver Gordon picked us up at 8:00 am and we drove to an Olive and wine tasting facility in Darling. We tasted 3 wines and about 12 other products made with olives. We bought a bottle of cinnamon infused olive oil and olive marinade which tasted like fruit cake jam. Our next visit was a stop at the San people museum who have lived in South Africa for 40,000 yeasts as hunters and gatherers. We explored the museum and listened to native stories told on a large screen. Then we started a guided tour through the 3rd museum where we learned how the San people made beaded jewelry out of ostrich eggshell. Our third stop was to the West Coast Fossil Museum where we visited a dig site of many bones, most of which were short necked giraffes. This museum had replicas of the short necked giraffe made out of pieces of wood. Gordon delivered us back to Cape Town. He was very helpful explaining how the tour for the two of us would proceed and let us make modifications to the schedule because we had extended visits to the 2 museums.
We had an awesome tour yesterday—we spent about 10 hours at the Cape with Gordon, our tour guide, and Hakim, the driver. It was a super engaging and informative tour; we learned tons of interesting facts. Thanks to Gordon's eagle eye, we even spotted a whale in the sea. It was a fantastic tour that's absolutely worth it!
The tour started with a stop at Big Bay to watch wind surfers and view Table Mountain and Cape Town. Then on to Darling Olives for tastings of olives, olive oils, spreads and jams paired with 3 local wines. Try the chocolate olive oil sausage, it's delicious. Next stop was !Khwa ttu village where we chose the Way of the San tour. Our guide explained the lives of the San people and demonstrated how they hunt and live. From there we drove to the West Coast Fossil Park where we had lunch followed by a tour of the fossil tunnel. The guide explained the fossils we saw that are still buried in the earth. Next we drove through Langbaan and the West Coast National Park with a stop to view the Atlantic Ocean. On our way back to Cape Town, we saw eland, ostriches, an eagle with something in its claws (maybe a snake) and springbek on a golf course. Gordon, our guide/driver, was outstanding. His knowledge of SA history and culture made the day one we will remember for years.
Gordon, our outstanding guide/driver, picked us up on time and we headed out of Cape Town. First stop Big Bay for views of wind surfers, Table Mountain and Cape Town. Then on to Darling Olices where we enjoyed tasting olives, olive oils, spreads and jams paired with 3 wines (140 rand). The chocolate olive oil sausage is to die and I bought one. Next stop !Khwa tu Village where we chose the Way of the San tour at Gordon's recommendation. We had a private tour with a San guide who helped establish the museum. He shared details of the San history, demonstrated how they live and hunt and tried to teach us how to talk in San. Next was West Coast Fossil Park (340 rand) where we had lunch then took a tour to see fossils still embedded in the earth. From there we drove through Langbaan to the West Coast National Park (432 rand). We stopped at a scenic overview of the Atlantic Ocean. It was beautiful watching the waves. We opted to not go to the honey farm. On the way back to Cape Town we saw eland, ostriches, an eagle with something in his claws (maybe a snake) and, springbek on a golf course. Gordon's knowledge of SA history and culture plus sharing some personal history made it a fabulous day.
The Guide Gordon and Driver where very good. We were on time for everything and extremely helpful, I highly recommend it.
It was a great day. We went to Darling for olive and wine tasting. We also went to learn about the San people together with going to the fossil museum which was fascinating
We had a driver but not a really good guide. We did not do all of the stops on the tour...the driver knew that the flowering season was past but still insisted on along dusty ride through the park. When asked about a possible stop at the ostrich farm, he waved it off and didn't seem to know anything about it. He didn't offer any choices of a lunch stop and basically had us do lunch at the cultural center where there was a huge tour group which really took a huge amount of time. The highlights of the day were the Cultural Center and the wine and olive tasting in Darling. He also never indicated that we would have onboard wifi.
Gordon!! You made this tour everything! Thanks for sculpting such a great experience for us and showcasing parts rarely seen! What amazing beauty!! Good to be with someone who LOVES to share his culture. Thank you!!
I enjoyed the tour with Gordon. He was very informative and we had a full day. I am an ex-South African and grew up in the Western Cape. I had not visited these places and found it very interesting. The countryside is beautiful and green with the wheat fields. The flowers in the West Coast National Park were plentiful and beautiful. The olive oil and wine tasting were interesting and it is amazing how many uses olives have. I could have spent more time at the Kwa ttu learning about the San. We both enjoyed the day.
This was an excellent full-day tour that allowed us to learn about the San people, see wildflowers, and explore many highlights of the West Coast. We also enjoyed an extra stop at Signal Hill at the end of the day with fantastic views of Cape Town, Table Mountain, and the ocean. Gordon was a very enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide/driver, he made it a truly memorable day for us.
The West coast tour was amazing. Olive oil/olive tasting/wine tasting was delicious. Perfect light snack. The Kwa Ttu San cultural exhibit was a great experience. The Fossil museum is an active dig site with more fossils than anywhere in the world. Huge bones easily recognizable poking out. So many it looked like they had been put there. A must see for kids and adults. The lunch spot on the water was lovely and the park and Giraffes were an added bonus. When locals asked where we were touring and we described our tour everyone’s eye lit up bc the west coast is everyone’s favorite place that tourists never go to. But they should! I will say do the olive oil tasting first bc it can be closed in the afternoon and you will miss it. Gordon was knowledgeable and affable and we had a lovely day with him.
I had a fantastic private tour along the West Coast and at !Khwa ttu. We saw many scenic spots along the way. The guide was friendly, making us feel safe and comfortable throughout the trip. On top of that, he had a great sense of humor, which made the experience even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this tour to everyone looking for a memorable adventure!
I had this tour with Nathan, one of the best tour guides I've ever met: he's passionate, clever and knows a lot of things about SA's history. He took me at my hotel and we drove the whole day visiting a lot of things. Nathan knows where to stop to give to the turist the best views and the best landscapes. This experience was one of the best I had in life and I would recommend this tour to everyone who want to visit the best areas of Cape Town, Cape of Good Hope, the coast and the penguins! Last but not least Kirstenbosh Gardens: a very green and peaceful place! Thanks Nathan
Our guide Shavick was wonderful! We let him know what we wanted to do and he customized the tour to be exactly what we wanted. The olive tasting had a huge array of different olive products to try and we enjoyed the cute farm house setting. We spent the rest of the day in wildflower heaven at the West Coast National Park. We toured in Sept during the peak wildflower season. There were endless fields of multicolored flowers spanning across mountains, ocean, and lagoon views. It was a photographer’s paradise. We saw flamingos, zebras, ostriches, many birds, gemsbuck, and eland. Shavick stopped the car for me to get out and take photos anytime I wanted. If it is not wildflower season the area close to the entrance of the park is still very beautiful with a lagoon, sand dunes, and ocean views. I highly recommend this private tour to allow you to pick and choose the most ideal experience for you!
M My husband and I wanted to see the western Cape region through the lenses of history, culture, and nature. We were lucky to get Alex as our guide. He met us at our hotel lobby with a beautiful new Mercedes C class. He started in the historic regions of the city including Bo-Kaap, the Castle of Good Hope, and Parliament explaining the unique history of the region giving us just the right amount of detail. We then drove along the Atlantic coast seeing Chapman Road with its stunning views. Alex knew just where to stop and helped us orchestrate great pictures when necessary. We saw Seal Island and penguins at Boulders Bay among other things. Alex guided us and helped us buy the right tickets, showing us where to go for the best views eliminating all stress. Then he booked a lovely lunch for us at the waterfront restaurant Saveur in Simons Town. One of the highlights was Cape point NP, where we hiked and drove through the game lands. Alex is a great game spotter setting us up for wonderful pictures. He even found baboons when we hadn’t seen them all day - which was a special request of ours. We were pleasantly tired at the end of our adventurous day and would highly recommend a private tour. Alex was great!
Right where do we start? The advertisement on Viator states under what to expect that you do the following: 1. Be picked up from your hotel in Cape Town and will pass through Bloubergstrand and Big Bay while drinking north. 2. You will visit Darling for olive tasting. 3. Will visit !Khwa ttu village of the San people. 4. Will visit Yzerfontein in whale watching season, where you may see whales. 5. Visit the West Coast National Park to see the flowers in August and September ( duration 1 hour) 6. Visit Langebaan the jewel of the Cape West Coast. 7. Visit the West Cost Fossil Park. 8. Visit the Simply Bee Observation Centre. So you might ask what was the issue? Well let’s see shall we: 1. Be picked up from your hotel in Cape Town and will pass through Bloubergstrand and Big Bay while drinking north in a private vehicle ( with WiFi & bottle water) We had no issues with this aspect of the trip and were picked up from our accommodation on time by our driver, however, the vehicle was substandard with a cracked windscreen, plus there was no WiFi or bottled water. 2. You will visit Darling for olive tasting. The visit to Darling did not take place and there was NO olive tasting. 3. Will visit !Khwa ttu village of the San people. This aspect of the trip took place and was informative and satisfactory. 4. Will visit Yzerfontein in whale watching season, where you may see whales. Even though it was whale watching season we didn’t go anywhere near Yzerfontein and therefore couldn’t even look for whales! 5. Visit the West Coast National Park to see the flowers in August and September ( duration 1 hour) OK, so the flowers and scenery in the park are lovely and well worth a visit. However be aware that the area where the flowers are, is at the far end of the park in an area which is closed to the public outside of the flower season. It is a 25km drive on uneven dirt tracks to get to the flower area which is a minimum of 40 minutes each way, even if you don’t stop to look at the views. The tour allows one hour for this section of the tour - be aware it is impossible to visit and see the flowers in one hour. 6. Visit Langebaan the jewel of the Cape West Coast. Same as the earlier aspects of this tour, I have still not seen Langebaan, never mind visited it. It could be a ghost town for all I know. 7. Visit the West Cost Fossil Park. Well, did we or didn’t we visit the West Coast Fossil Park? I suppose the answer is yes and no - let me explain, we arrived at the fossil park at 14:55hrs only to be told by reception that the last public tour of the park had taken place at 14:00hrs. So we spent a few rand for a 5 minute walk around their small museum. NOT the visit and tour we had expected. 8. Visit the Simply Bee Observation Centre. Can someone please explain to me what the Simply Bee Observation Cemtre is and how it works, because once again we neither visited it nor saw any bees! So you might think my review was finished, well you guessed wrong. In our clapped out vehicle, with its broken windscreen (no WiFi and no bottled water), our driver continually, throughout the journey, broke the speed limits on the R27 even though there were average speed enforcement cameras on several long stretches of this road. Well you have guessed correctly, on the way back to Cape Town we were stopped by the Highway Police, because our driver had been consistently speeding. Fifteen minutes later we continued our journey back to Cape Town with one very unhappy driver who had received a speeding ticket and merit points on his licence. All in all not the day we had been expecting and we definitely would not recommend this trip to our worst enemy.
Wilson was fantastic! Great information and storytelling. We got to see all the things we wanted and he was very kind with his time and information.
Great tour. Reagan was very funny, well informed and generally a really likeable guy. Tour was well laid out and the lunch spot was beautiful.
We had a wonderful day with Kevin who went out of his way to make sure we saw all the sights we wanted, and even took us to a few extra places we didn’t know about. He was very knowledgeable and informative and really looked after us, I highly recommend this tour company and our excellent guide Kevin Basseko!
Rodney was our tour guide and picked us up right on time at our hotel. He was very personable and knowledgeable about Cape Town. We quickly set off for our tour. This tour lasts around 8 hours so prepare for a long day but we’ll worth it. It basically lets you see a lot that Cape Town has to offer in one tour. You do stop for lunch and there is even time for some shopping for souvenirs! A must do!
Oct 2, 2019 We went on this tour. This tour makes a point of stressing the importance of seeing the magnificent floral and negation displays at the Park. What the tour company failed to inform us was that the display and park area closes to all traffic on Sept. 29th. We feel the tour company Kabura Travel & Tours should have informed us of this. They chose not to and as a result we made the trip up there (several hour) only to be told that the area we paid to see was closed. In fact our guide (a sub contracted tour guide, excellent fellow-no complaints) was not made aware of this also. He planned on us grabbing lunch at the park restaurant but even that was closed, he also was unaware of this. We strongly feel that this tour company had only one thing in mind when they booked this tour for us--make some money. I cannot in good faith recommend the credibility of this tour company. In closing we feel our driver depended on the information from the tour company and should not be held responsible.

To really appreciate The Cape you need o take this tour. It reveals a completely different landscape and lifestyle. If you like good food I can highly recommend the Leeto Restaurant in the Strandloper Hotel in Paternoster - it is a simply fantastic shore front location with great food and elegant architecture.

Wonderful day excursion from Cape Town. Lots of driving, but our guide stopped at interesting locations along the way. Recommend this tour if you enjoy a day excursion outside of the city.

Our driver Gordon was able to easily reschedule the appointment and organized and led a great tour with individual extra requests. Absolutely recommended.
Very nice tour and very good guide Has responded to our wishes
The contact in advance was very good and professional. Our guide Mena contacted us via WhatsApp before the tour so the meeting place was easy to find. During the tour he told us great and informative things about South Africa. He responded to all questions and wishes during our tour. A great day. Many thanks to Mena.
Cape Town, disappointing. We were there in 2012. Cape of good hope, Cap des Aiguilles, when the region was wild, little frequented., dirt roads, ostriches and baboons at will. Today, everything is paved, concrete, shops etc.. organized for mass tourism. What a regret to come back to the end of the world to find yourself behind a colony of buses and cars! As for Cap town, traffic jams on forty km, food in restaurants without interest and expensive, staff can welcome more interested in many customers than quality. Too bad, this is definitely our last visit to Cape Town although we live in South Africa.
