Cape Town Lion's Head Hike Sunrise Coffee/tea Or Sunset

A great hike guided by Patrick! He was easy going, friendly and knowledgeable which made for a fun and great experience hiking Lion’s Head at sunrise !

Patrick was very knowledgeable about the Lion’s Head hike, local plants along the hike, and different areas of Cape Town. He was very intentional about taking time to give us breaks during our hike and during those times he shared his knowledge. Patrick was very kind to find us the best view points at the top of Lion’s Head, to take pictures of us, and to provide us with coffee and tea right before sunrise. We very much enjoyed our hike with Patrick as our guide.

Patrick was an incredible and very knowledgeable guide. The hike was beautiful and he kept a perfect pace. I had a mishap with my phone and Patrick was a huge help and very kind. I recommend him, no questions asked.

We went for the sunrise hike with Patrick and had a wonderful experience! We had a group of 5 coworkers and because of schedules we booked kind of late, but Patrick was extremely accommodating and super responsive. He had great stories for us and made all of us feel safe with an in the dark hike. A first for most of us. We didn’t know how the weather would be but we were treated to a glorious sunrise. I would definitely recommend this excursion to others, Patrick is the best!

Patrick was amazing! Very knowledgeable, experienced, funny at times, and knows when to pause for breaks. We were just 3…and so more info could be taken in. Highly recommend Patrick as a tour guide. This hike is a must do if you like Sunsets or Sunrises from atop a hill. A few things of note…it takes about -4 hours up and down (including breaks). There NO bathrooms at the foot of the hill, enroute, or at the top…plan accordingly. Layers, and headlamp are helpful although Patrick carried extras in his bag…just in case.

This guided sunset hike to Lions Head and back was definitely one for the books! Patrick is extremely kind, patient, and knowledgeable about the routes and ensured that everyone with us was comfortable. Although the hike itself was slightly difficult for beginner hikers because of the other route being closed at the time, it was such a fun challenge that all of us thoroughly enjoyed. The views were INCREDIBLE and definitely worth it, even after the sunset as we trekked back in the dark with headlamps. We truly gained a great perspective of the city and are so grateful for such a memorable experience! Thank you so much :D

Had a lovely sunrise hike with Andy. Very friendly and knowledgeable. We were the first to make it to the top and had prime seats for the majestic sunrise. Absolutely breathtaking. Would recommend it to anyone looking for some adventure in CPT. Worth the early wake up!

The sunset hike up Lion’s Head turned out to be one of the highlights of our 2 weeks in South Africa. I cannot sing Patrick’s praises highly enough. He was absolutely great - good company, knowledgable and funny. The walk itself was beautiful, with stunning views throughout. The walk winds round Lion’s Head, so you get all the possible views. Once it starts getting dark, the walk down is so interesting, looking over Cape Town by night. The head torches Patrick provided were top notch and he safely guided us throughout. The hike would be more than manageable for anyone comfortable on their feet for a few hours. It’s not easy, but it’s by no means arduous. We never felt out of breath. In terms of cost, this was one of the least expensive options for a guided hike on Lion’s Head, making it even better value. Thank you Patrick!

Andy's a great tour guide, had a friendly, fun, relaxed hike up, got there in plenty of time to get a good spot for the sunrise, had a delish cup of hot coffee while watching the sun rise over Table Mountain. 100% recommend!

Shamier is a fantastic guide who really looks after his customers. I was collected from my accommodation and taken to the start of the hiking trail. The route, terrain, length and elevation gain was all explained in detail before the guided hike commenced. Flashlights were provided and we walked at a nice steady pace in our small group. The views on the way up, at the top for sunrise, and on the way down were amazing. Definitely worth the hike and i felt safe at all times.

If you are solo travelling and want to hike, I highly recommend Patrick! It was an unreal experience hiking to the top of Lion’s Head with Patrick’s guidance and seeing the most majestic view with the sun rise :)

Hiked Lions Head for sunrise with Patrick. A tough 4am start but is worth it to see the sunrise from the top of Lions Head. Looks like a very difficult climb from the bottom but is deceptively leisurely with some light climbing at the top. You can tell Patrick had done this hundreds of times and was able to provide a lot of insight on the flora, animals and Cape Town in general. Worth the wake up for the view. Also was much easier when it is still cool and dark in the morning.

The tour was great but we missed the sunset due to too late pick-up. Keep in touch with your driver/guide beforehand. Beautiful views and splendid weather. The guides were super!

This is something for hiking fans: early wake-up, nice pick up from our hotel, relaxed setting, good equipment (headlamps), friendly french and english speaking guide, we had a small group of 5 and that was excellent

If we could choose more than 5 stars we would rate it 10. Lets start from the beginning, Patrick picked us up right on time, he guided us to an awesome adventure to the top of the lion’s head mountain making the climb enjoyable and entertaining as you couldn’t imagine. He did take care of us all time and it was pleasantly surprising us with coffee and tea at the summit while watching the stunning sunrise and the 360 deg view of the entire Cape Town city. We highly recommend this trekking with Patrick.

Wow--what an amazing experience! This was our first time in Cape Town, so of course we had to hike Lion's Head. There is a small area for street parking at the trail head (approximately 300m above sea level). The first half of the trial is very easy with a gentle incline and no scrambling required. The second half becomes a little steep and requires some scrambling. Between the sunrise and sunset hike, I would recommend doing sunrise as the scrambling required for the latter half of the trail is safer to do in the dark on the ascent (before sunrise) than on the descent (after sunset). Views at the top are magnificient--Cape Town, Table Mountain, Devil's Peak, and more. We stayed in Cape Town for a few days and this was easily the highlight of our stay. Patrick was an incredible tour guide who gave us a little bit of history and lay of the land during the hike and even offered to drive us back to our hotel. We will absolutely book again with Patrick and highly recommend him to anyone else looking to visit Lion's Head!

Had a great hike up for sunrise with Frank (the swiss mountain goat). Although not experienced at 'scrambling', Frank guided as well and the reward was spectacular! What a way to start your day!

Patrick is very nice man. He makes sure you are properly equipped and informed. He caters the hike to your group needs and wants. It was really an amazing experience!

Frank picked us up from our hotel and took us to signal hill to start the hike. We met with another hiker, got our torches set up and we set off. The first half is quite sedate, but then you get into scrambling and ladders. It was fun and when the sun came up the views were amazing, especially with the way the light was playing with the heavy fog that was around. Finished with a warm cup of coffee. Frank was great with us and very knowledgeable about the route and conditions. Thanks

Our sunset hike up Lion’s Head was absolutely amazing! The views were breathtaking—watching the sun dip below the horizon with Cape Town spread out beneath us was an unforgettable experience. Our guide, Patrick, was fantastic—knowledgeable, patient, and so helpful throughout the hike. He made sure we felt safe and comfortable while also sharing great insights about the area. If you’re visiting Cape Town, this hike is a must-do, and I highly recommend going with Patrick for the best experience!

We really enjoyed our sunrise hike with Patrick. Initially we booked a sunset hike, but changed to the sunrise option due to strong winds being predicted for the evening of our booking. The hike begins in the early hours and is timed so that sunrise occurs shortly after reaching the summit. Patrick collected us from our hotel and, along with a couple of other guests, we began the hike from Signal Hill. The hike itself is likely manageable for those with moderate fitness/mobility levels, and does involve some scrambling up and over short, sharp inclines at various points. These were managed really well by Patrick, who kept us informed on what to expect on the hike throughout. Reaching the summit and sipping coffee provided by Patrick as the sun emerged over table mountain was a beautiful, truly memorable experience, and you can get a clear, 360 degree, expansive view of Cape Town from this vantage point. It was worth the time and effort to get there, and the whole experience was, throughout, an enriching one. In terms of guidance, Patrick was a gentleman. Pleasant, polite, calm, knowledgable and informative, he was a reassuring and vigilant presence on the hike and ensured that our experience was fully realised. We would strongly recommend this hike to anyone curious about it.

Our guide was amazing! He hikes Lion's head twice a day so he knows every rock on the mountain and all the best picture spots. He had lights for us to use on the way down after the sunset. Do not try this without a guide! We have so many pictures from this climb but will remember it forever!

Patrick is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I bring my mom (60+ ) with me for the hike. Even through she is all fit and able to complete the whole round, Patrick help a lot give her a hand though out the journey. The new is spectacular, highly recommend!

I had a lovely experience this morning hiking up lions head. My guide Patrick arrived on time and catered to my every need. He carried my jacket when I got hot and brought tea and coffee for us to enjoy at the top and watch the beautiful sunrise. The views are amazing. I did the sunrise hike to the summit of Lion's Head this morning. Waking up at 4am is never easy but it was SO worth it! The hike is a great mix of easy paths, challenging/technical parts with ladders and chains, and a bit of "Lego blocks" as Patrick calls them :-) And then the view is out of this world. Overall it's a quick hike so it doesn't become exhausting, and it makes you feel like a great mountaineer even if you're back by 8am :-) Patrick is a very good guide, very prepared, he provided me with a headlamp and he even had coffee and tea for a sunrise sip! I would love to do this fun and rewarding hike again. Hopefully one day. Thank you Patrick!

This was so much fun and amazing even though our view was completely clouded over. Patrick was the perfect guide taking us to the mountain he clearly loves. We appreciate especially that he was able to take us on a same day booking. He kept us going and definitely kept an eye on our safety. We only wish we had more time to go on another hike with him!

Patrick was great company on this dawn hike - he even brought head torches and hot coffee! The weather wasn't on our side but he was patient and took extra care to point out tricky or slippery bits. He even joined in with me in looking for geocaches on the way up and back. Highly recommended!

I completed this hike with Patrick from Cape Escape Tours. There were two other women that were part of this group hike. Patrick was the best guide for the hike. He knew the trail very well and was very good at making sure we were aware of the trail conditions. He let us know when sections of the trail were slippery or sandy and made sure we were all comfortable on the difficult sections. This was a sunset hike and it started getting dark partway back on our return. Patrick had headlamps for everyone in the group. This would have ben a very difficult descent without the head lamps. At the top of the mountain you definitely need both hands to navigate through the rocky areas. I love this hike with very diverse trail sections. I would highly recommend using Patrick as your guide, especially if this is your first time completing this hike.

Was an amazing experience- thanks to our super guides! We hiked for the sunset and had beautiful views the whole time. Pack a lot of water and some snacks to eat up there. 12/10 absolutely must do!
