Itinerary
Walk through the iconic, brightly colored houses of the Bo-Kaap (formerly the Malay Quarter). Your guide will share the history of the Cape Malay community while you stop to taste traditional snacks like spicy samosas or sweet koesisters, offering a true immersion into this vibrant heritage.
Wander through this lush botanical oasis, originally established in the 1650s to provide fresh produce for passing ships. Explore the park's natural beauty and European architectural influences, stopping to feed the local squirrels and discover the oldest cultivated pear tree in South Africa.
Immerse yourself in the bustling energy of one of Cape Town's oldest public squares. Beyond the vibrant African art, hand-painted textiles, and unique souvenirs, we will hunt for hidden culinary gems where you can sample authentic flavors from across the continent in the heart of the city.
Step inside the quiet, elegant courtyard of one of the city's most prestigious historic buildings. Here, we reveal a "hidden secret" of Cape Town's past before settling in for a curated, unhurried tasting of premium South African wines, expertly paired with local cheeses and artisanal charcuterie.
Conclude your journey on the city’s premier foodie strip. While it's known for its trendy nightlife, we head to a tranquil, artisanal shop to witness the craft of chocolate-making. Indulge in a decadent, handcrafted treat that serves as the perfect sweet ending to your urban exploration.

Fantastic tour. Authentic and real Cape experience. Not Touristy. In addition to tasting great food we learned about the culture. Our tour guide was excellent. Thank you Ashlin Adam.
Our guide Ashlin Adam was very knowledgeable about the food of South Africa and its history. The walk went through the Bo-Kaap area and central downtown Cape Town. We went to Several different local restaurants and bars where the food and drink was presented and explained
My friend and I ended up being the only two people on the food tour, so we essentially got a private experience. Our guide, Matthew, was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. He even tailored the tour slightly to our interests, which we really appreciated. Not only did we get to enjoy some delicious food, but we also learned a lot about Cape Town’s fascinating history and culture along the way. It was a great combination of food, sightseeing, and local history! The tour was a fun and unique way to explore Cape Town!
Ashlin was excellent, passionate about the history. Took us on a very interesting route showing us the many dimensions if Cape atown history and culture. The food and drink stops were all interesting and varied. Highly recommended.
We had a wonderful time with Matt! He was a great guide, so knowledgeable and fun. The food was delicious, too. All in all, a great tour and we would highly recommend it!
We had a great time with Ashlin's Secret Food Tour during our holiday in Cape Town. The pace of the eating was the best we've had on any food tour and we've done a few. There was a nice variety of foods from appetizers, sweets, savories, and drinks. Ashlin was very focused on the safety of the group, which was appreciated in an unknown place. Highly recommend if you're interested in experiencing the local cuisine and may be unsure of where to find it.
Outstanding food tour! Great variety of tasting stops with incredible foods. Places that we never would have discovered in iur own. Our excellent guide Matthew did a fantastic job of telling the backstory for each of the selections. Truly enjoyable afternoon. I would highly recommend this tour.
Our tour guides name was Blessing!! And it was!! He was engaging and funny and full of knowledge of the food and culture. We learned about so many of the local foods, all delicious and diverse. Beef and wine tasting as well! What a fun and educational experience!
A wonderful tour with our engaging guide Ashllin, that included historical facts about the area along with amazing food from local restaurants. Our wine tasting experience was also so fun that we went back the following evening.
A wonderful way to explore parts of Cape Town, taste the local food from Cape Malay to African and local drinks. Ashlin was a great knowledgeable guide who made us feel like friends.
Great experience and a brilliant start to our South African trip. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Cape Town and it's fabulous food and drink. This was our first experience of a Secret Food Tour but we will certainly be searching out others on our future travels. I highly recommend one of these tours as way of getting to know a new city, the culture and food.
Ashlin showed us some really nice places about local food. In addition, a lot of interesting information told in a nice way. Very educational!
