Our full day tour with Danny was fabulous! Danny is personable and knowledgable. We enjoyed seeing much of the Cape area that was not included in our group tour.

Itinerary
Betty's Bay is a coastal town an hour east of Cape Town. It was a whaling station in the late 1800s. Later it became better known for its unusual resident: the African penguin! The penguins settled at Stoney Point beach at the of the 20th century. This made Stoney point one of 2 mainland penguin colonies. Guests will have some time to walk along the penguin beach and see the penguins up close.
It would be an injustice to drive through one of the best wine regions in the country and not stop. The Hemel n Aarde (wine region is both close to the sea and at a higher altitude than the Cape Winelands. This is the perfect climate for the cool-climate grape variety. This means wines that are subtle, crisp acidity, a lighter body, and bright fruit flavours. The valley is able to produce some of the best pinot noirs and Chardonnay wines in the country. Your wine tasting experience at Hamilton Russell will not disappoint.
After the wine tasting experience, the tour will continue towards Hermanus. A quaint coastal town which is also South Africa's whale watching capital city. Whales can be spotted here from the whale trail along the shores between the months of June and November every year. Hermanus is also known to be one of of South Africa's gastronomy towns and you will be able to have lunch here before the tour continues South east towards Elim.
From Cape Agulhas, our journey will take us through a picturesque village called Elim. Elim was established in 1824 by German settlers. It was the 3rd Moravian station near Cape Town and very little has changed over the years. Rows of whitewashed, thatch-roofed cottages line the streets of this charming village. And all the fig tree-lined streets lead to the church! Guests will have time to walk around and visit the town's small rose garden.
3 hours Southeast of Cape town City is the most Southern tip of the African continent: Cape Agulhas. It's here that the warm Indian Ocean collides with the icy Atlantic. The rugged coastline hosts over 21 000 wetland and seabirds of different types. The Serengeti of the seas, named because of its diverse marine life, is also a part of the Cape floral kingdom. The richest floral kingdom in the world! About 2000 different plant species are resident in this area and with over 100 being endemic. While we are here, you will have ample time to explore the coastal plains. You can also visit the Cape Agulhas lighthouse; the second oldest in South Africa. A walk up to the summit of the lighthouse provides one with a bird's eye view of the town and the museum at the bottom.

Abesolutely wonderful! Great places, our driver was amazing, friendly and knowledgeable of the areas we visited.
Our day trip to Cape Agulhas was absolutely wonderful thanks to our amazing, knowledgeable, and delightful guide Jossie. Each stop along the way to the Cape - Betty’s Beach and African penguins; the Hamilton Russell winery, Hermanus and seeing the breaching whales — was a unique experience made even more special thanks to Jossie’s explanations. The Cape was breathtaking and not crowded. A perfect day trip from Cape Town.
This is a great tour exploring the cape outside of Cape Town. It is a long tour, but our guide, Danson, tailored the day to our liking. We were able to skip places that were not of interest to us and enjoy more time at other places. Danson is very knowledgeable about the entire area and made the long drives feel much shorter with his informative description of each place and its history. If you have time, I’d highly recommend this tour and Danson as your guide. He really made experience very enjoyable.
We had an amazing full day experience with Kelvin as our tour guide! We made our way from Cape Town to different towns making our way to the tip of Africa. Kelvin was awesome with all his suggestions and made for a fun experience!
Highly professional and informative tour.
Our guide, Danson, was wonderful. He was attentive, very knowledgeable and enjoyed sharing personal stories as well as stories about his very complex country. He adjusted the day's itinerary to our requests and was a skilled driver . We would gladly do a private tour with him again.
It was relaxing and a low pace. Jean is a great tour guide, very accommodating We visited all the places we wanted to accept for the winery that was unexpectedly closed when they got there at 3 PM
It was a great and very interesting trip! where I visited the end of the world! Thank you, Danson for this memorable day! Sergei, November 25, 2025.
This was a great trip, but a long drive from Cape Town. Good stops along the way and our tour guide was great and very accomodating.
This is a long journey but worth every minute. I can now cross one thing off my bucket list! We all had a great time.
Absolutely wonderful day. Xochitle was an amazing guide who now feels like a friend. It's a long day, but we enjoyed every bit. I highly recommend this tour.
The trip to Cqpe Agulhas was PERFECT. Well curated with adequate time to have lunch, spend time to see penguins, walk along the beach, climb the lighthouse. Our guide Peter was AMAZING! knowledgeable about not just the tour but also Cape town and South Africa as a whole. He was engaging but not overwhelming. Even with my teenage children. Very professional. My interaction with Pauline was very professional, she answered all my questions and enquiries. I would highly recommend this tour with this company. We could not have enjoyed more.
What a wonderful, chilled and personal tour we had with Natasha, our driver and tour guide! Just the three of us and Natasha! We had many exciting stops on our way to Cape Agulhas and Natasha allowed us plenty of time to enjoy each place and adventure. These included the incredible, wild Penguin colony at Betty’s Bay, which also had lots of Cormorants and Rock Hyrax creatures running around; the beautiful little Dutch town of Elim, with lots of houses with thatched roofs and a beautiful church; the whale watching town of Hermanus, where we stopped for lunch; wine tasting at the super Hamilton Russell Vineyards. Cape Agulhas has a lighthouse, great wild and rugged coastline, where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet, a harbour & pier, where we saw a stingray swimming, up close. Along the route, we also saw a lot of Wildlife, including Baboons, Springboks, Osterichs, Cranes, hawks and Guinea Fowl, to name but a few! Natasha was an amazing guide, who made the whole day such a fantastic experience!
It is worth the long drive. The scenery is beautiful and the ride back is fantastic. Rodney is a great guide and he was extremely helpful and knowledgeable.
Kevin our guide was great and went to every effort to ensure we enjoyed our trip. The itinerary was varied and choice of vineyard and lunch locations was spot on. A great day out
I’m a geography nerd so going to the southernmost point in Africa and seeing where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet was amazing. Our guide Kevin was friendly, personable and knowledgeable and we loved spending the day with him.
Our 11 hours tour for two persons from Cape Town to Cape Agulhas and back with Cape Archive Tours was, briefly expressed, perfect. The route to Cape Agulhas by the sea and back through country side gave a chance to admire the nature and the wild life in the fullest. As we wished to skip the wine tasting and the lighthouse in Cape Agulhas and visited the penguin colony only shortly we had a pleasant amount of time for a coffee break in a charming village of Elim, a lunch in Hermanus and experience the waves and the winds of two seas of the southernmost tip of African continent, sublime Cape Agulhas. Our driver and guide, Danson, is a professional. A trustworthy driver, a knowleadgable guide - also concerning variety of topics like economy, social issues or geology (!) in SA - and a nice person to spend a day with, though naturally we had our own time when convenient. Without such company as his a lenghty tour might be a less exhilarating experience. I wholeheartedly recommend the tour provided by Cape Archive Tours and smoothly orchestrated by Danson.
I had a great time and Peter was an amazing guide. I wrote a better review but it wasn’t approved because the guidelines say you cannot post a review with pictures that are duplicates of another, so I’m attempting to give a good review of this tour that meets TA’s standards :/ take advantage of this tour.
It may seem trivial to see the southernmost point of a continent, but I strongly advise you to take advantage of this trip if you’re staying in Cape Town. It is an amazing way to see the coastline of the country, from its rocky shores and its majestic mountains. In addition to possibly seeing whales and penguins, you may get lucky and see some Dassie and Baboon! The wine tasting is a lovely experience as well, and the cherry on top of the whole experience is a fantastic guide. Peter was the best guide we’ve ever had in our South African travels, so you’re in the best of hands if you get him for a guide.

The 2-1 made this a very personal experience. Our guide Kelvin was very knowledgeable on the history of all the places we saw along the drive. In Betty’s Bay we stopped at the Stony Point Nature Reserve and got to see African Penguins for the first time. We are not big wine drinkers and our experience at Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estates exceeded our expectations. Our wine ambassador Valentin did a great job of presenting wines to suit our tastes. We walked away with three bottles!!! Our lunch at the “Burgundy” restaurant in Hermanus was delicious. The scenery was extraordinary, from the stone covered mountains to the rocky coastline with its tropical coloured bays. It was very cool to find ourselves standing in the most southern point of Africa, where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet. This excursion is a “must do” if you find yourself in Cape Town South Africa.
We had such a lovely experience on our private tour to Cape Agulhas. Our guide was friendly, easy to talk to, and informative. We started with a scenic drive east, stopping for coffee and photos occasionally, in addition to Betty’s Bay to see the Stony Point penguin colony. We also stopped at an adorable winery for a quick tasting before continuing on to Hermanus, where we had a few hours to eat lunch and shop before continuing our journey to the southern tip of Africa. Once there, we took the iconic photos and climbed the lighthouse before heading back to Cape Town. We left at 7 am and returned around 6:30 pm. The drives were quite long but we made lovely conversation throughout the day and it all seemed to fly by (plus the views were stunning the entire time). We would highly recommend this experience to others!
We made a last-minute booking for this tour and Rodney was our tour guide and driver. We were extremely pleased with his service. We had a wonderful time and visited many great places. This tour involves a long drive, but it did not feel that way because Rodney engaged in conversation with us the entire time and kept us entertained. I highly recommend requesting Rodney as your tour guide if you decide to take this tour. You will not be disappointed.
Rodney, our guide/driver was fantastic. He kept us entertained and informed all day. The trip was smooth and comfortable. I highly recommend Rodney as a guide/driver any time.
This was a great day! Even though the weather was challenging (rainy and windy), our wonderful guide Kevin changed the order of things on the itinerary to make sure we got to see everything. The Penguins were awesome, Cape Agulhas was beautiful (windy and cold) with the ocean churned up, and the winery he chose for us was beautiful with very good wines! Kevin was knowledgeable, interesting, and a very safe driver. Highly recommend this tour!
Our day trip with our guide Rodney was fantastic. Rodney served double duty as driver and guide in a spacious Toyota Rav 4. The trip was relaxing with amazing scenery. For us, Cape Agulhas was a "must see". Spectacular views. Rodney kept us informed and looked after our every need. Highly recommend.
As review title states, It was a Wonderful day trip to the southernmost tip of Africa, Cape Agulhas. It is an unusual trip, long one, but it is worth to do it. Rodney arranged the trip in a way we were not rushed, and had decent time for most of the stops. Rodney was talkative, informative, a pleasure to have him around. Food at Mazambik restaurant at the Town Hermanus was very good. Penguin experience at Stoney Point in Betty’s Bay; much much better than Boulder Beach. The stop at Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate, fantastic. ( just needed half a day there alone :) ) Highly recommend this trip.
It's a nice place to take a photo where the 2 oceans meet, but you can't see it. The money you spent to climb the light house is waste. The 71 ladder steep steps climbing doesn't bring anything. It's also nearly 3hrs drive from the Cape town. There are no toilets. Especially for ladies.
The trip to Cape Agulhas was amazing! All the credit goes to our driver Joseph who took us to a winery, Cape Agulhas, and even stopped by some places as we required. Joseph shared with us his insights on the history of SA while we were on the road. We didn’t even feel the 3.5 hrs trip to get there since he made the trip enjoyable and unforgettable! Thanks Joseph, his company, and Viator app for such an amazing experience! I highly recommend it if you really want to visit the official place where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet. It’s not Cape Point as it’s popularly advertised.
Peter is a delightful and knowledgeable guide. We had an enjoyable all day tour of the southern tip of Africa. I highly recommend this service. The vehicle was top notch and roomy.
The entire day was AMAZING with our guide, Rodney. He was friendly, fun, entertaining, and incredibly knowledgeable. This was a definite highlight of our trip. He went above and beyond to entertain our interests (stopping along the route for pictures) and photo antics. 10/10 highly recommend!!
The tour guy we had was Keviñ. He was very knowledgeable with everything South Africa. We had an extremely wonderful day.!!!
Rodney was prompt, extremely knowledgeable, and considerate. I thoroughly enjoyed my tour with him. I highly recommend.
Great long day full of local experiences. Cape Agulhas is a must experience when visiting the continent. The view from the windy lighthouse is great. As were the stops for penguins and whale watching. La Vierge winery had good service and good wine. Kevin was as good a guide as one could ask for.
This tour was phenomenal from the time I booked the experience until the guide returned me safely to my hotel. The tour company provided excellent communication leading up to the tour to confirm my departure time. Kevin, my tour guide, was perfect. He was kind, thoughtful, detailed, and an excellent driver. This trip is long, and you will spend many hours in the car, but it was SO worth it, and I felt safe the entire time. I was able to witness the most beautiful sunrise on the drive out. Kevin allowed me to stop for coffee and a view of the bay. He handled the curves very well, as much of the drive is along the winding coast and through some mountains. Kevin also checked in to allow me to use the washroom when necessary. He shared a lot of history about the area with me as we were driving. He even pointed out the national flowers when we saw them and slowed down at times so I could observe the baboons hanging out along the side of the road. Betty's bay was beautiful. The views were lovely, and there were some penguins there. The winery (La Vierge) was excellent. I visited Stellenbosch the day before. What I appreciated about the winery on this tour was that it was small and family-owned. It was a great personal touch, and I enjoyed the selection of wines. The views from the patio were beautiful. I would definitely return to this winery. Honestly, I could have spent the whole day in Hermanus! It was beautiful. I had the best Cape Malay Curry for lunch at Bientangs. I would suggest other visitors have lunch there. The service was excellent, the food was prepared quickly, and the views were out of this world. The whales were quite active on the day of my tour. Having lunch on the water and watching the whales was so lovely. Next up was Cape Agulhas. It was so beautiful. The winds were powerful, so be sure to bring a jacket. It was nice to walk along the boardwalk, climb to the top of the lighthouse, and then finally stand at the point where the oceans meet. The experience there was both powerful and relaxing. I could have easily sat and watched the waves crash on the shore all day. The drive back to Cape Town is a solid three hours. But again, Kevin did a great job, and we stopped for the washroom as needed. He always knew of safe and clean rest stops. The best part about the ride back was watching the sunset. The colors in the sky were beautiful. I mentioned to the guide how much I love sunsets, and he offered to stop so I could take a quick photo. This was very thoughtful. Thank you to Cape Archives Tours and my guide, Kevin, for a trip I will never forget. I appreciate the level of thoughtfulness and care extended during my tour, especially since I was traveling as a solo traveler. Kevin was also a great photographer, which was nice so that I could capture my experience. I will definitely use you all again for future tours!
Our tour guide, Peter, was knowledgeable and well -informed about so much of the history, wildlife and plants and flowers we saw on this amazing trip. I would recommend this trip whole-heartedly! We saw whales, penguins, many birds, had a delightful wine tasting and saw where two oceans meet. 10 out of 10
We loved every minute of this tour, and Peter from Viator was the best tour guide we've ever had! He was knowledgeable about history as well as the flora and fauna. A fantastic experience!!!
Our tour guide, Kevin, was simply amazing! He was very knoedgeable as he took us along the coast to Betty's Bay, Gordon's Bay, a winery for tasting near Hermanus, Hermanus, Elim and finally to the southern tip of Africa, Cape Aghulas. He was informative and even though the trip was long, he was upbeat and had positive energy. He knew we have a keen interest in fauna and flora and along the way identified animals (e.g. blue crane of South Africa) and different species of flowers (e.g. pretoa). We highly recommend this tour! Thank you Kevin for an amazing day.
We had a great day with our guide Joseph. He drove us along the coast seeing beautiful vistas and arriving to see the penguins. They are amazing. We then went to the small town of Hermanus and saw whales, did some shopping and lunch. From there we drove to Cape Agulhas, the most southern tip of Africa where the Atlantic Ocean and Indian Ocean meet. It is a beautiful and iconic place in the world. Since we had not ever seen the Indian Ocean I waded in the water and that made my day. We then drove 3 hours back to Cape Town enjoying the small towns and beautiful farm land. Amazing day.
Joseph was a pleasure! We would highly recommend him! He drove us near 300 miles to and from Cape Town to Cape Aguhlas. We spent an absolutely wonderful day with him and were so appreciative of his knowledge and his welcoming personality. We highly recommend this tour!
Our guide was very informative and friendly, He arrived early and mad an effort to speak to all of us and answer any questions we had. We all had a great time :)
Amazing day trip to the southern most trip of Africa! Family enjoyed the trip and the daylong conversations with Kevin -- our guide and driver.
Excellent driver/guide - careful, very knowledgeable, flexible, helpful and cheerful. Cabins overlooking the ocean(s), nice, pleasant design, well equipped, maybe at places a bit draughty, but heating system works well. Ah, but watch out for 2h-long rolling power outages. Peaceful place, great hikes.
My husband and I have been to Cape Town a number of times and on this trip decided to do something different and opted for this tour. It was a very good tour with interesting stops and our tour guide, Kevin, was polite, knowledgeable and friendly and importantly a very safe driver! We enjoyed seeing the penguins and the winery we visited was absolutely lovely - a really nice stop in the day. The trip to Elim was interesting, though do note it's a very small place and we were just "lucky" that there was someone there to open the museum for us and give a little history otherwise there's very little to see/do here. Being at Cape Agulhas was wonderful - amazing views and scenery. My husband did climb to the top of the lighthouse, I opted not too as it's 4 sets of very steep wooden ladders which didn't appeal to me and the views from the ground were amazing in any event. Those are all the plus points and the tour was worth doing in terms of those locations however the guideline timings on the description are wildly inaccurate - or they were in our case anyway. The tour description states a duration of 9-10 hours with a 40 minute stop at Betty's Bay, 40 minutes at a winery, 90 minutes at Hermanus (to have lunch), 30 minutes at Elim and 2 hours at Cape Agulhas so a total of more than 5 hours of stops as part of the trip. This was very far from our experience. We left our hotel (AC Marriott near the V&A Waterfront) at 06.45 in the morning and returned at 18.15 so a total of 11.5 hours. Our stops were - 30 mins at Betty's Bay, 1 hour at the winery, a 15 min stop to get lunch at a supermarket (which we then ate while driving), 30 mins at Elim and 1 hour at Cape Agulhas and a 10 min stop at a fuel station on the way back to Cape Town to use the toilet/grab a snack so a total of 3 hours and 15 mins of stops from a total trip of 11.5 hours so a LOT of time spent driving. It was clear from when our driver picked us up and the things he was saying that the trip was going to be longer than the 9-10 hours (which we were OK with) but having a 15 minute supermarket trip to get a snack and eat while we were driving is a lot different to a nice stop in Hermanus for 90 mins - we didn't stop there at all. I don't see how it's possible to stop for the lengths of time stated in the description and do the trip in 9-10 hours. We drove back from Cape Agulhas direct to Cape Town which in itself is a journey time of almost 3 hours. Overall we did still enjoy the trip but it was not, in our opinion, as described and had we insisted on stopping for a proper lunch somewhere then it would have been well over 12 hours. If we had done the more than 5 hours of stops noted in the description coupled with the journey length it would have been more like 13-14 hours. If that's the case then the description should make that clear. As regular visitors to the area it was not a disaster for us to miss out on a stop for lunch in Hermanus but had it been a first trip that would have been very disappointing. Overall we did enjoy the tour and the places we stopped and would recommend those locations but more accuracy in the description would have been nice.
Cape A'gulhas is everything I had hoped for: crashing waves, rugged coast line, gale force winds, wrecked ship, light house... At the beach where the Indian and the Atlantic Oceans meet, there is a GIANT map of the African continent. I think it beats Cape of Good Hope in every respect. I wish we had more time to spend in this area. We stayed one night in a cottage run by the Cape A'gulhas National Park Service. The cottage is beautifully designed and well equipped, and has a traditional African thatch roof. Its orientation provided us a magnificent sunset. Unfortunately, our cottage was drafty and cold. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our stay.
We went on a private tour to Cape Agulhas with Xavier. Xavier was a great guide and made the day fun and interesting. He's a thoroughly professional guide and gave good commentary. We also had some interesting conversations. We started off on a drive to Betty's bay to see the penguins, then a lovely winery in Hemel en Aarde followed by lunch in Hermanus. Finally a stop and short walk at Cape Agulhas - the southernmost tip of Africa. Xavier was very patient with us as we made an unscheduled drinks and toilet stop at the end of a very long day! We all enjoyed our day immensely, the scenery was stunning and wouldn't hesitate to ask for Xavier for future tours.
Excellent road trip to Cape Agulhas. The best of penguins, wine, whales & the Southern most trip of Africa in one gorgeous day. Magnificent views of the Cape's breathtaking landscapes from the oceans to the wineries to the ranches. The stop through Hermanus is incredible as the whales come really close to the shore line. Our driver & guide Danson made sure our day was worth every single penny. I highly recommend this trip to everyone who has Cape Agulhas on their bucket list.
The tour was well organized and beyond our expectation. Apart from the stunning view of Cape Agulhas, there were a lot more to see during our way to and back from there which make the trip very fulfilling. Our guide Kevin was very kind, patient and responsible. We really enjoyed his guide and company.
Excellent service, they were very helpful. We booked at the last minute and very late at night. Thank you Cape Archives Tours. Thanks Xavier for making it possible. Our tour guide/driver, Lazarus, was friendly, driving smoothly and helpful with a very nice BMW car. He helped us taking photos. We love it. We recommend this company for everyone.
