Piano was superb. Elderly gentleman with amazing repertoire. Excellent performance. Piano was best part of the afternoon tea

Unbelievable experience! Food was delicious and teas remarkable. Our server Amaranda was so wonderful! Highly recommend!
I was horrified to realise that I was charged R 2 000.00 extra! My understanding was that I was going directly to Mount Nelson for a booking for afternoon tea. Never having done this before, I assumed this was what they charged Imagine my surprise when I discovered it would have cost me R1 600 instead of the R3 350 I paid via Viator!
Simply incredible! Sommelier Craig walked us through everything that you’d ever need to know about tea. Server Thuli created a very special experience! And the food? Simply off the charts fabulous!
Amazing service from the start of getting out of the car, being greeted by the lovely porters and manager greeted us at the reception and checked up on us during our experience. Cheslyn was the waiter for our table of 6& was attentive, knew the menu and made perfect suggestions on the teas we should try and letting us know they have the best scones and baked cheesecake in Cape Town. She was one of the loveliest ladies we had the pleasure of serving us and would be the reason we would come back for another High Tea experience.
%Thuli was awesome great service
Excellent hospitality and service
We decided to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary having high tea at the Mount Nelson. What an exceptional experience. We were thoroughly spoilt by Cheslyn. Cheslyn was also very knowledgeable and shared her insights freely. We enjoyed everything, but next time will come hungry! Thank you for our anniversary gift and for hosting us so graciously. We will be back!
We had a lovely High Tea, the food, staff and surroundings were just perfect. Worth the expense for the experience. We have had many High Teas and would say it is the top so far.
Very disappointed The venue is beautiful and elegant… parking inside the hotel is dreadful, The savoury sandwiches were very dry and it did not look like they were made at on spot… the scones were boring, nobody explained to us about the tease or the rest of the desserts. What are they? What are we eating? Service was very slow
On the 11/12 my sister and I treated our mother to High tea at the Mount Nelson for her birthday and what a treat it was. A truly remarkable afternoon High tea at the Mount Nelson. I have done numerous High teas across South Africa and in the United Kingdom and this one ranks very high up there as one of the best. We had the tea on the Terrace overlooking the beautiful garden. What made our experience extra special was our server Thuli. It was like she was reading our minds as to what teas we would like. Like a fairy godmother she arrived at our table with 3 different teas and these were absolutely perfect for the 3 of us. The orange blossom was my favorite and just wished i had asked where I can buy it from. Nothing was too much effort for Thuli with our requests. Thuli explained the different courses like she had made them herself. Thuli made us feel special and relaxed. I would highly recommend Afternoon High Tea as a special treat whether it be celebrating something or even just treating yourself. Thank you Thuli and Mount Nelson for making my mothers birthday one that she will remember for a lifetime.
Lovely Afternoon at the Mount Nelson lovely hotel nice afternoon tea nice experience had a tea taster come and explained all the teas they done definitely recommend it got picked up and brought back to our hotel which was nice lovely driver too nice afternoon in capetown
Our server Lulu was absolutely amazing. She made our experience even better. Such a lovely person. Darryl the tea expert had such amazing knowledge and was willing to share it! The food and drinks were delicious and plentiful. If you are in Cape Town, you should definitely come. A very beautiful setting as well.
We had an amazing afternoon made even better by excellent service. Thank you Emma for making our experience extraordinary!
The mount nelson high tea always makes our list when there is something to celebrate. And it’s no surprise with such a delicious selection of sweet and savoury treats, the warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable staff (thanks for a great afternoon Thabisa), along with a relaxing, yet elegant, environment that feels like a calm oasis far removed from the business of the mother city.
Extremely Disappointing High Tea Experience – A Waste of Time and Money I rarely leave reviews, but this experience left me so frustrated and disappointed that I feel compelled to warn others. We booked what was supposed to be relaxing, elegant high tea — something we were genuinely looking forward to. Unfortunately, what we got was the complete opposite. The entire experience was hijacked by an over-the-top, loud, and completely out-of-place entertainment act that no one had the decency to inform us about beforehand. We could barely hold a conversation at our table, let alone enjoy the setting or the tea. The noise was intrusive, the atmosphere chaotic, and to make matters worse, the staff were clearly overwhelmed and completely inattentive. Service was beyond slow, we waited endlessly for tea refills, items were brought out cold or completely forgotten, and not once did anyone check in to apologise or explain the disruption. If this “entertainment” had been communicated in advance, we would never have booked. It felt more like we’d stumbled into a disorganised dinner theatre than a refined afternoon tea. Save your money and your sanity, there are plenty of other venues that understand what a high tea should actually be.
Amazing high tea experience! Our server, Cheslyn, did a fabulous job recommending different teas and ensuring our kids were taken care of as well. Will definitely be back!!
Such a wonderful experience - High Tea at The Nelly is a must! Our server, Cheslyn, was so attentive and provided excellent service! We loved every minute.
So special. We had a lovely afternoon. The food was amazing and our waiter, Thuli, was so attentive and made the experience even better. Highly recommended.
The best afternoon tea experience we have ever had. Love the new service to the table. Sparking wine on arrival a huge hit! Thank you to Cheslyn for making our memorial tea to my late mother extra special
My husband and I came for Afternoon Tea on our last day in Cape Town. The setting is stunning, and the food was divine. Emma took great care of us, ensuring our tea was never empty and our bellies stayed full. The spinach and coconut soup was not a favorite, but everything else was amazing.
We had a wonderful afternoon enjoying high tea at the Nellie with our family who were visiting from the UK. The sandwiches ,savouries ,petit fours and cakes were delicious as was the variety of teas available. It was made even more special by being offered a complimentary glass of pink bubbles on arrival at our table. We were very well looked after by Wiseman and Lulu ,who were very friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. We shall be back in February with more family to enjoy the experience.
I had a lovely afternoon with my friends, enjoying delicious food and tea and great service from our hostess Thuli, and intriguing tea discussions from the sommelier Craig. This was money well spent. Can’t wait to come back!
hostess was amazing since I goofed up the timing of our reservation. The tea was ok (in fairness, I am not a super tea fan) and the food was ok but the experience was lovely. We came by after a tour of Langa township so that difference was jarring--the staff were lovely here and worth a look at the gorgeous grounds.
Beautiful grounds with a fabulous high tea offering. We had a wonderful waitperson - Thuli- who walked us through every little bite. Home of one of the only tea sommeliers in the whole rod with many teas to choose from. Would definitely recommend first r a relaxing afternoon.
We had a lovely experience at the Mount Nelson Afternoon Tea. Good service especially from Craig who made us feel so welcome. The Food and tea were exceptional and the lounge room so beautiful. Overall, a wonderful experience.
We enjoyed a lovely high tea experience for my mother's 50th birthday. We were attended to with great care by our waitress Cheslyn and everything was explained perfectly by Craig. This was definitely a memorable outing, and the scones - believe it or not - was the absolute BEST I've ever had! Thank you to Munchi (I hope I got this right!) at reception who greeted with such enthusiasm as we left, biggest smile ever!
Such a special experience. A beautiful room, with lovely service and yummy tea and food. After the afternoon tea, they let us sit outside in the garden and enjoy. Felt welcome and blissful here. Wish I was still in that garden!
Woow what a wonderful come back at Beautiful Mount for iconic afternoon tea...Wiseman our waiter was just outstanding and looked after us like royalties. He was so attentive and made our afternoon tea very special. Stunning . Great pastries and tea and more.
Overall afternoon tea was a delight, excellent service, superb selection of teas, pastries and cakes totally indulgent. Sandwiches and baby brioche lacked sufficient filling and were tasteless and quite boring in relation to the rest of the afternoon tea.
Just fabulous, service , environment and food all first class and what great vfm when compared to The Ritz or Dorchester Not to be missed
We went for Christmas Eve and had an amazing time !! The bottomless tea was such a treat. We could choose any teas we wanted (or coffee or matcha or even afogato etc) It is not cheap but the experience is very special. We sat outside and preferred it to inside )for a busy day) The only point is we are not fans of very creamy desserts and neither are our teen children. Just some delicious chocolate brownies, chocolate cake or simple tea items would have been better for us than ghe very fancy and very creamy little desserts. The scones and first course were AMAZING
This was by far my favourite High Tea experience in Cape Town. Not only is the Mount Nelson's dining hall and terrace seating areas classy, but the entire experience was just grand. The Mount Nelson is preserving the concept of High Tea from start to finish. The 3 courses that were served to us at the table were absolutely beautiful to look at, delicate and tasty. I also appreciated the limited range of cakes and tarts as the fourth course. It didn't limit the experience at all - in this case less was more. My favourite staff member was by far the barista and coffee expert. I wish I remembered his name. What a lovely young man and so passionate about his craft.
We really had a fantastic day visiting the Mt. Nelson and everything from the decor to the food and service was excellent and memorable. (I went with my sister but trip advisor only gives a family teens or family children option for the visit - weird).
We visited Cape Town last week. The High Tea was an activity at the top of my list. After a day of shopping with friends, we arrived at the beautiful Mount Nelson. Our table was beautiful on the terrace. Nqobile walked us through everything we needed to know and treated us like royalty. Her smile and attention to the details made my day. Thank you for a beautiful afternoon.
The tea was amazing and the atmosphere was beautiful!! I am going back here as soon as I possibly can!!
We booked a table a week in advance for 5 pax on the terrace for high tea on Tuesday the 4th of Feb at 15h00. On arrival we were greeted by a very professional driver to park our vehicle. As we made our way to the high tea salon we were very excited to taste and savour the famous Mount Nelson high tea selection, but we were very rudely informed by the hostess that they do not have a table on the terrace for us and that we have to make due with a 4 seater coffee table and that they will get a extra chair, as we waited (getting very uncomfortable) the hostess arrived with the extra chair. We sat down but the men at the table had to sit either cross legged or open legged cramped into a very uncomfortable space. We decided to leave and go elsewhere. To say the least I was shocked and so disappointed in way we were treated at the Mount Nelson. No apology, no table, no high tea.
My wife and I felt so lucky to have been bought this gift of afternoon tea at Belmont Mount Nelson. What an amazing place, the hotel looks fantastic and is a very special place with a very interesting history. The current Queen celebrated her 21st birthday here and it has welcomed presidents and high profile A Listers and Government officials for years. The gardens are fantastic and spacious. The whole layout is tremendous. We were welcomed and taken into the garden whilst we waited for our son & daughter in law and had a lovely glass of wine. Then we were taken to a lovely spacious table overlooking the beautiful gardens where we ordered our teas or coffees etc and wines. We were then bought an amazing selection of savouries etc which were all delicious. We were given plenty of time and had a few top ups of tea & coffee. Then we were invited into the room just off the garden area where there was so many different pastries, chocolate and scrumptious variations of puddings and sweets. Amazing display. What a fabulous afternoon Tea (best ever for us) and in a most glorious surroundings. Elegant and stylish. A must do if in Capetown.
We surprised my mother with a delicious afternoon tea. What fantastic experience was it!! Starting with nice bites, tea at your choice, fingersandwiches and scones, was already quite a filler. And then inside were 2 tables with only sweets. It was all delicious. Great piano player!! We’ll do this again.
Afternoon tea was fully booked , however delightful staff showed us to a wonderful terrace with very comfortable chairs . We ordered cake of the day , chocolate ganache served with coulis fresh fruit and sour cream delicious . Spend a glorious hour or two. Very mixed dress code , We were in shorts others more formal.
Before arriving into the city, I sent an email to reserve a space. I had to make a change so I sent another email and the staff was so gracious. Once we arrived, the staff was so attentive and the service was over the top! The decor was absolutely beautiful! Which matched every gorgeous morsel that I placed in my mouth! The teas were delicious and you could have as much as you could drink! The pastries were scrumptious and so plentiful! The grounds outside were so tranquil and you were forced to stop, sit and breath! I really recommend that you have tea at this World reknowed location!
This is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon in luxurious surroundings. There are a variety of sandwiches and snacks to eat with your tea (or other drink to your liking) followed by scones. You can order extra helpings at extra cost. However leave space for the dessert. There's multiple choices of cakes and other dessert offerings. The food was fantastic and the tea superb. Take a taxi to get there rather than a tour as it isn't far. You can walk from the centre of town too; it's just at the top end of Companys gardens. Indulge yourself and book a table. Book in advance as it's quite popular. In good weather you can sit outside on the terrace with views of the beautiful gardens.

The Mt. Nelson Hotel is a truly beautiful location for High Tea and the food was delicious. The service was excellent!! I would definitely put this on your Cape Town must do list...

This was a beautiful hotel with excellent service for afternoon tea. My only complaint is Viator was expensive to book through almost 50 per person when you could have went straight to the hotel and got exact same for half the price and just get your own taxi, which are cheap.

Beautiful venue. Tea was lovely and food was excellent. A must do! EVEN IF YOU DON'T LIKE TEA. There are other things to drink. The variety of teas and desserts are too many to mention. Musa, our driver was great!

Before returning to Germany, we finished with an afternoon tea at Mount Nelson. On the beautiful terrace we enjoyed all the little delicacies that Wiseman beautifully served us and presented us with information and the history of the hotel. We had a wonderful last afternoon in Cape Town, thanks in no small part to the excellent service, which we will remember for a long time.
It was a very special experience. The high tea at Mount Nelson Hotel was exceptional, and the service was great. Thabisa was our competent service person who accompanied us through this wonderful afternoon. A great compliment to the fantastic performance of the kitchen
Also this year we did not miss the Afternoon Tea at Mount Nelson during our visit to South Africa. It was again a feast for the senses: among a variety of teas, the favourite tea is served, plus first the delicious sandwiches on a tierre, then the scones with clotted cream and then the highlight a magnificent dessert buffet that leaves nothing to be desired. At the beginning, instead of the champagne, we ordered the excellent MCC from the region and thus also achieved a very good price, performance ratio. The Mood together with the uniquely beautiful view of the garden and the pleasant sounds of the grand piano make the experience perfect. For us to come back to Cape Town with a reason.
We were having Afternoon Tea at Belmond Mount Nelson. It was delicious we had several small sandwhiches and cakes including Champangner. It was great the location of service and price performance unbeatable.
We were all in the company impressed by how amazing this place was. The atmosphere and the decor was fantastically beautiful, the service was absolutely fantastic and there was really nothing to complain about. You should go here hungry because you will get to eat very good! Remember to leave room for the sweets at the end! Even if I don't drink tea normally found a super good in the "tea menu" we got. This was really beyond expectations and a memory I will carry with me, not only was it a fantastic taste experience of tea, mini sandwiches etc and pastries, but the atmosphere and service was absolutely incredible. If you're in Cape Town, don't miss this place! Can warmly recommend. Think about dressing up something.
