Seriously, you can stop searching for tours now. We have been fortunate to go on many tours in different countries with our children. This was THE best. Paul is incredibly knowledgeable and hospitable. He was so accommodating and willing to change the itinerary as one of our children started to not feel well on the tour. He made sure that everyone was taken care of and we learned so much! Paul picked us up from our hotel lobby. He communicated clearly what we should bring with us and what he would bring. He was on time and let us know as he was approaching. It was an absolute pleasure to talk to Paul on the drive to Chichan Itza (which is not a short drive!). He is interesting and engaging. He gave us some relevant history and was able to answer our questions. He partners with a local guide at chichen itza who is brilliant. The other guides were all friendly and it is clear that he is well-liked by the broader community, which speaks to how he interacts with others. We took a long time here asking many questions and shopping with the local artists. Paul never rushed us and gave us as much time as we needed. We went to a fantastic lunch at a small roadside restaurant that was packed with locals (it was a local holiday the day that we went). He is friends with the cooks and one of my children was able to make tortillas with them. The cenote that we went to was great! Paul gave us the inside scoop so that we skipped lines and knew the best ways to have fun there. He tailored the choice of cenote to the interests of our family and the timing of our arrival to ensure the best experience. Our last stop was a town that we ended up not exploring much because one of our children started to not feel well. He adapted the schedule so that our son was more comfortable while making sure that we still got to try the amazing food there. Really, I can not say enough good things about this experience. As a professional researcher, I can assure you that you can stop searching now and just book!

Itinerary
The first place visited is Chichen Itza, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since the 1980s and voted a modern Wonder of the World in 2007. It is considered the most important of the Mayan sites primarily because it has buildings from the two Mayan eras and therefore differing styles of architecture reflecting the changing politics, beliefs and culture from 435AD to the Spanish Conquest in the 16th century, but also for its religious importance to the Maya as a place of pilgrimage. Unlike most guided tours, Señor Travel Bug will take you to the older and newer parts of Chichen Itza and explain their relevance. We drive for approximately 2h45 to arrive at Chichen Itza, depending on pick-up location.
Our second stop will typically be to either one or two cenotes, and will be chosen after discussing with the visitor their preferences eg. cliff-jumping, merely floating, seeing cave structures etc and could be before or after lunch depending on hunger and how much time was spent in Chichen Itza (a benefit of a private tour). Visitors can then swim, jump or merely relax in the cool waters of the cenotes that are somewhat unique to this region of the world. We drive for 30-45 minutes after Chichen Itza to arrive this location (depending on the cenote selected reflecting each individual's or group's style (i.e. calm or adventurous style cenote)
Either before or after the cenote we will stop to eat lunch, again depending on the visitors' preferences. The food is not included, but the guide will make recommendations from his experience and knowledge reflecting their tastes and budget. This could be (tried and tested) street food, a locals' restaurant where you can visit the kitchen and see tortillas being made, a high end Mayan restaurant or even a pizza place. We will drive for 30-45 minutes to arrive at lunch, depending on the cenote selected for your private tour and the choice of restaurant reflecting the travellers' taste and appetite.
The final stop of your Mexican classic tour in a Mexican classic car (or alternative if preferred) is in Valladolid, a Mexican pueblo magic, or 'magic town'. Valladolid is the nearest Spanish colonial town to Cancun and the Riviera Maya, making it well worthwhile visiting to see another 'face' of Mexico. We will wander the most attractive streets of Valladolid, perhaps browsing in its boutiques and also the central square, and we often close out the day with a cool refreshing drink beside the cathedral. We will drive for 5-30 minutes to arrive at Valladolid, and after touring the magic town will drive for approximately 2 hours to return to your pick-up point in Cancun, Puerto Morelos or Playa del Carmen.

Comfy car, good inf and coordination with local guide.
This was such a great tour! Paul offered customized recommendations and slight detours based on our individual preferences. He was very knowledgeable about all the stops and everything else in between. Based on the above, we definitely got a local taste of the region. Thanks again, Paul!
Our day with Paul was phenomenal. I’m an over-planner and over-thinker, so I connected with Paul months ahead of our trip, and he engaged with me immediately and continued to be a resource for questions prior to us ever meeting! Everything from booking, pick up, the tour itself, and returning to the hotel was super smooth. Zero stress from point to point. The cost of the tour is 100% aligned with value. Our day with Paul was filled with history, cultural insights, humor, and yummy food we would not have discovered without him! Our group of four opted for the Chichen Itza, Cénote, and Valldolid day, and we are so glad we did! We certainly would have booked another day with him exploring other sites and areas if we were here longer! The four of us are the on the big and tall side, so we opted for the Mitsubishi Xpander vehicle over the VERY COOL VW Bug. The ride was comfortable and quiet. This adventure was without a doubt the highlight of our visit, and should we return, we will be seeing Paul again!
We had an excellent experience with Senior Travel Bug, touring the pyramids, a cenote, and a nearby colonial town with Paul. The entire day was thoughtfully curated and never felt rushed or overly scripted. Paul is incredibly knowledgeable and he brought the history to life in a way that was engaging without being overwhelming, and he adjusted the depth of information based on our interests. What really stood out was how he tailored the pace of the day to us, making it feel like a truly personalized experience rather than a standard tour. He’s also genuinely friendly and easy to spend the day with, which makes a big difference on a full-day excursion. We had a great time and would highly recommend Paul to anyone looking for a high-quality, customized tour experience.
Excellent experience. Good transport. Great historical explanations. Really interesting Cenote swim. Lovely lunch venue. Ended with a swim with turtles. Lovely day from start ro finish.
Paul was recommended to us by our friend who used to work with him and we are so grateful to her for introducing us. We spent 2 full days with Paul and could have happily gone on for so many more. We cannot recommend him and his trips more highly. On the first day he took us to Chichén Itzá and on the way we got to know him whilst he explained the history of the Mayan period and that of the Yuucatan penninsula in general. Once at Chichén Itzá he continued his brilliant tour telling us about all the buildings, and combined this with his characteristic friendly and fun approach so that the whole experience was both fascinating and totally enjoyable. He was happy to go at any pace to suit our questions. After that he took us to a beautiful Cenote, timing the visit perfectly to avoid the crowds. After a delicious lunch in a restaurant he chose to suit our needs, we wandered around Valladolid with him where, once again, his immense knowledge of the area and its history made the visit brilliant. At the end of the day, driving around in his wonderful and incredibly comfortable Beetle we felt like we'd certainly made a new friend, as well as having had a perfect day. As already mentioned, we could not recommend him more highly!
We had an amazing experience with our guide Paul in Mexico! He was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. He made the whole trip feel special and memorable. Paul even took some incredible photos and videos for us, which we will always cherish. He went above and beyond to make sure we had the best time. We will definitely recommend him to everyone, and we truly hope we will meet again someday. Thank you for everything, Paul!
What a fantastic tour from start to finish great fun! Paul was just superb from local area knowledge, to information around the ruins, He designed the tour to suit our needs and desires, kept the kids interested and included in all with interactive experiences along the way. Plus also a professional photographer so win win. The Absolute highlight of our holiday and strongly recommend to all. We Will be sure to contact Paul next time we visit Mexico again.
We had a wonderful time with Paul. We had a group of 4, and were skeptical about travelling the distance in the VW Bug, so Paul made arrangements to drive us to Chichén Itzá in a quite comfortable Audi Q5. He arrived promptly at 6:30 am, was patient with hotel security and got us on the road promptly. We made it to Chichén Itzá shortly after opening, before the vast majority of the crowds formed. He was a great guide, answered any questions we had and was very interactive. We felt very comfortable with Paul. We opted to skip the cenote experience (as we have already done similar experiences). It was great to have that flexibility. On the way to Valladolid, we stopped by a great authentic restaurant in Kaua. He showed us our lunch being prepared-handmade tortillas and pork. It was delicious. We shopped at Valladolid, ate too much, talked about our experiences and travels - and headed back. At the end of our journey, Paul sent us all the photos that he had been taking throughout the day - which was very much appreciated. I would definitely recommend Paul to my friends and family if they ever visited the area. Thanks, Paul!

If you’re considering booking with Paul absolutely do it! We are fussy travellers and Paul hit every point and more! The tour itself and the knowledge is absolutely fantastic we learnt so much, but Paul really tailored this experience for us and he is great company it felt like a tour with a friend not a guide! The extra advice and food stops were very welcome and even our teenager loved the day! If we ever come back Paul will be the first person we reach out to for tours
If you are looking for a private tour with a thoroughly educated, experienced and fun guide…..Paul is you man! We had an absolutely unforgettable experience with Paul. He made sure we were well prepared in advance for our day, thoughtfully planning all aspects of the day from start to finish and catered to our wishes so that the day spent with him would be perfect. On top of his incredible knowledge of the history of the area his personality and genuine care and concern is unmatched. We had the absolute pleasure of spending the day with him and we would 100% recommendation using him without hesitation.
We took this tour on the first day of 2026. It was perfect from start to finish. We're not native English speakers, but Paul explained everything in a way that was easy for our children to understand. Because it was a completely private tour, the timetable was very flexible and tailored to our needs, so we didn't feel rushed and felt very relaxed. We had wanted to try the cool Volkswagen for transportation, but this time we were tired from arriving in Cancun the day before, so we went with his Audi Q5. It was so comfortable that the whole family slept well in the car on the way back. Paul also took some amazing photos and videos during the tour for us. We're grateful for this wonderful experience at the start of the year. If you're looking for a great day in Cancun, this tour is definitely the right choice.
We booked our day tour with Paul after reading his reviews and he did not disappoint. The drive from our hotel to Chichen Itza was approx 2 hours, we had many questions which Paul answered, he is very knowledgable on Mexican culture and history, but the fact that Paul is such a personable guy made for easy conversation and the drive flew by. At Chichen Itza, Paul’s passion for history brought the Mayan culture to life, he is very knowledgable but did not just deliver ‘text book’ facts, and was keen to discuss different theories and opinions. He was happy to spend as much time as we wanted here and we appreciated the fact that we didn’t have to stick to an ‘itinerary’ and had time to explore the whole site. After our morning at Chichen Itza, we were ready to eat and from the options presented we ate at a local place that we would never have found without Paul, the food was traditional and soo tasty - we even had homemade juices, delicious and refreshing. Next onto the Cenote, what a beautiful place - it’s easy to understand why these were considered sacred places. We jumped, then used the rope swing and swam in the crystal clear waters. Again, at our own pace. We arrived at the town of Valladolid by late afternoon, Paul guided us to a fab ice cream parlour and as we strolled around the town with our refreshing ices, the locals were starting to gather in the town square, many accompanied with music and instruments. Once again, Paul guided us and commented on historical buildings and local traditions with enthusiasm. Throughout the day Paul took many photo’s, he has a great ‘eye’ and took fun ‘posed’ photos along with more casual reportage style photos which he shared with us at the end of the day - once back at out hotel for the evening we were surprised when he sent us a very professional reel of our day!! We had an unforgettable tour with Paul, the day really exceeded our expectations and we would not hesitate in recommending booking with Paul. A few practicalities worth noting: Paul organised all entry tickets so we didn’t have to queue, allowing for more time at the sites. Pauls fluency in Spanish (along with other languages).
Our tour with Paul was easily one of the best parts of our trip to Mexico. Paul was a knowledgeable and engaging guide and displayed genuine enthusiasm in immersing us in the history and local community. He's also a wonderful photographer and we've received a diverse collection of photographs from the duration of our trip. We highly recommend Paul for anyone looking for a memorable and thorough experience of the locality.
We had a great experience with Paul as our tour guide. He led us through Chichen Itza and a local cenote, and was very helpful with food options and explaining the history along the way. Paul was knowledgeable and easygoing, never overbearing, and did a great job tailoring the day to what we wanted to do. He answered our questions patiently and shared insights about local life that really added to the experience. I traveled with my family, and we all felt comfortable and well taken care of. Overall, it was a very enjoyable and memorable day, and we’d definitely recommend Paul!
We had a great time with Paul, who expertly walked us through the ruins at Chichen Itzá, patiently answering our questions and taking some wonderful photos throughout the day. Additionally, as vegetarians, we were delighted by his efforts ensuring we had a variety of food options throughout the day.
We are SO happy we booked a private tour with Paul — honestly, it turned out to be the best decision of our trip! Since we only had one full day in Cancun, we were a little nervous about dedicating the whole day to one tour, but wow… it was more than worth it. Paul is passionate, thoughtful, and incredibly knowledgeable. He explains history in a way that’s not just interesting, but human — like listening to a great storyteller rather than reading from a textbook. His experience gives him a unique perspective, and you can truly feel how much he cares about the culture, the people, and the places he shares. On top of that, Paul has the soul of a creative photographer — he found fun angles, suggested poses, and turned simple moments into cinematic memories. We now have some of our favorite travel photos thanks to him! And the food… oh my goodness. He introduced us to authentic local flavors we would have never found on our own — including a real Mayan kitchen. That alone felt like a once-in-a-lifetime moment. If you’re thinking about booking this tour: do it. Paul didn’t just guide us — he made us feel welcome, cared for, and connected to this place. We’ll remember this day forever.
Paul was absolutely fantastic. We had 2 separate tours with Paul, his Cancun food tour & the Chichen Itza, Cenote tour. Both were absolutely brilliant, Paul’s knowledge and style of touring was very interesting. He had kept all 7 of us interested and with some well timed food stops at some absolutely amazing local restaurants. We had a fantastic time, would highly recommend

We had an incredible private tour with Paul. Paul was extremely kind, knowledgable, bilingual (dare I say quad-lingual?) and welcoming host/tour guide. He helped us really get a more in depth understanding of the Mayan Historical sites, as well as giving us an authentic Mexican experience in through the rest of the Yucatan with an amazing lunch, cenote, and stop in the beautiful town of Valladolid. A MAJOR surprise for us we did not expect but was a win for us were the numerous pictures he took and gave to us on this trip, as well a video he edited and sent at the end of the day after he got home. He truly goes above and beyond. He provided, water, towels, and even carried our purchases when doing a bit of shopping. We spent a 12 trip in Mexico and our day with him truly was a highlight of the trip. HIGHLY recommend his tours to make your trip to Chichen Itza memorable.
Paul didn't excellent job! He was very responsive and maintained contact before the tour. He was punctual, very friendly with a wealth of knowledge and fun interaction to matches friendly personality. His tour was very informative with the nice balance of history, physical activity, and fun I would recommend him to anyone!
I had a great tour with Paul at Chichén Itzá and the cenote. He knew a lot about the history and explained it in a fun and easy way. It really made the experience special, and I’d definitely recommend going with him! He also knows Some very good spots for getting real authentic mexican food!
Finally, a tour guide who knows how to give his guests the best experience. Booking a trip when you're on holiday always feels like a bit of a gamble and its normally easier to go with the 'safe' option of booking through a hotel, but you often end up on an overpriced, average tour on a big coach that feels hurried as it runs to a strict timetable. I've always hated those types of tours, so wanted a a reasonably priced private tour designed around me. After reading the reviews for a number of tours, Señor Travel Bug jumped out at me. Not only does he have 100% rating but all the reviews were saying the same thing about how relaxed and friendly Paul is and how interesting and informative the tour is. I booked the tour with my family (for some reason, none of the tours to Chichén Itzá are cheap and even the tours that appear cheap soon end up more expensive once ticket costs are added, etc. This private tour cost virtually the same as a coach trip for 50 people). We opted to go for the tour in his Audi rather than the Beetle as it has better air conditioning! The tour was a joy from start to finish. Paul gave us loads of information throughout the day that kept both myself and kids interested. He welcomed as many questions as we could ask and was happy to go deeper into certain areas if we wanted or keep it brief if we were getting overwhelmed with knowledge. For Chichén Itzá Paul is supported by a local guide, so whilst Paul gives the tour the local expert was able to join in and provide some additional expert insight into some of the iconography and history. The tour went entirely at our pace, we spent over 4 hours just at Chichén Itzá (a record apparently as the tour is normally around 3 hours), this was mainly due to my wife's shopping, but we never felt hurried or rushed once. However, the special sauce in Paul's tour and what sets it apart from any other tour I've been on (and I've been on dozens of tours around the world), is that, like me, Paul is a keen photographer and during the day took over 100 photos and videos of myself and the family. He knows the best vantage points and how to take the fun shots. This is probably the first holiday where I'm actually in most of the photos instead of being behind the lens! At the end of the day Paul provides you with all the photos and videos (incl. a montage video), free of charge. No overpriced single photos in a frame, nothing like that - 100+ quality photos of the trip for free. Having your own photographer on the trip is worth the tour cost alone. I only wish we could have stayed in Mexico longer to have been able to go on some of Paul's other trips. Paul set up his travel company to pursue his passion for travel following a long career with a major bank. I would highly recommend one of his tours.
Spent the day with Paul, and it was fantastic. He is a super personable and knowledgeable guide who taught us about Chichén Itzá and kept it interesting for myself and my family the entire time. He then tailored our lunch plans so that we had an authentic and delicious experience. We then finished off with a refreshing swim in a beautiful uncrowded cenote, and a tour of Valladolid. A huge extra bonus was that he took really wonderful photos and videos for us the whole day. Highly recommended, you will enjoy your tour with Paul.
Pick up on time, very talkative and took many photos. Got recommended by friends and I was so glad I did. Gave us so many facts and told us about Mayan culture. Comfortable car and took us to amazing places for food. Overall amazing experience and would definitely recommend.
Everything was perfectly organized – pick-up on time, comfortable ride, and no rush. The guide made the tour feel special with great stories and personal insights, not just dry facts. What impressed me most was the friendly and personal attitude – he answered all my questions, helped with photos, and even gave great local tips. It honestly felt like spending the day with a good friend rather than a tour guide. Highly recommend to anyone looking for an authentic and fun experience in Mexico! 🌴🇲🇽
We were recommended to Paul by my brother as he had earlier been to Mexico in 2025. Chose the chichen itza, cenote and valladolid trip to get a feel for Mexico and a bit of history. Paul was absolutely great and made the day one to remember. He is very knowledgeable, very easy to get on with and you won't regret booking with him. Got some great photos and vids at each site, egged me on to swing into the cenote (thanks Paul), tried some local drinks and had some great street food. He will take you for food drink based on your preferences. All in all a great time was had by my family and would definitely book another trip should we return to Mexico.
Great tour. Loved the flexibility especially if you wanna maximize your time at the ruins or cenote etc. Paul took us to some really great local spots to eat, very yummy.
Personalised tour, great recommendations, great service, full marks. Paul was absolutely fantastic. Before we arrived he took the time to understand our interests and personalised the tour for what we wanted to do. He was able to take things we said we were interested in and and build them into what we did, from Chichen Itza to a relatively unknown Cenote to recommendations for beaches and restaurants, I’d recommended him every time.
Our group went on a tour with Paul and we were amazed by his knowledge of local culture and the ancient history of Chichén Itzá. The tour allowed a great deal of flexibility and Paul catered to our interests. He took us to a beautiful cenote and we spent time at a local town where we had a delicious meal. Very thankful for our experience and we thoroughly enjoyed this tour. I highly recommend Paul to anyone interested in a private tour, he also takes amazing pictures!
Paul was an amazing tour guide for my friends and I when we visited Cancun in July. It was a blast going to spend the day at Chichen Itza and learn a lot of history you won’t get by reading the signs. It’s great having a private tour so we could curate how long we’d like to be and what to do. The food places we stopped at were very good and reasonably priced for us tourists. We had a dietary restriction and he was able to find us a restaurant that had everything everyone could eat. Paul had enough water for everyone to get throughout the day and there was always time to go get something at a shop if we wanted to. This tour was absolutely amazing, I’d recommend it to anyone coming to Mexico.
We, a family of four, booked a day trip with Paul to Chichen Itza and Cenote, and it was the highlight of our trip to Mexico. From the start, he was exceptionally organized. We were staying in Moon Palace, and he reached out to us the day before with details about what to bring to the trip such as caps and swimsuits to swim in the Cenote. He meticulously confirmed our pickup location to avoid confusion and arriving right on time. We started early in the morning around 6: 30 am at Paul's suggestion. He understood the importance of starting early to beat the heat and the crowds at the Chichen Itza and secured our tickets in advance through a friend to save time. On reaching Chichen Itza, Paul elaborately explained to us the significance of each monument. He outdid himself when he offered to capture our pictures and even suggested some impressive poses for the photos and candid shots. We even got to dribble the famed rubber ball from the Mayan ball game. Throughout the trip, he shared fascinating insights into the history of the Mayan civilization, weaving in joyful and personal anecdotes that made the experience even more memorable. For lunch, he took us to a local spot for authentic Mayan cuisine which was an absolute delight. Soon after the lunch, we headed to Oxman Cenote. Here again, Paul was our personal photographer recording those adventurous moments when we jumped into the Cenote and swam together as a family. While we loved visiting the historical sites, what truly stood out was getting to know him. He was warm, professional, and thoughtful from beginning to end. He took the time to get to know us and tailored the experience to match our preferences, offering helpful recommendations for future trips along the way. It was more than just a tour, it was a personalized, enriching journey led by someone who genuinely cares about making your experience unforgettable. Thank you Paul for the wonderful trip!!! Note to Tripadvisor: This is a genuine write up by an English Teacher! I am curious as to why it was flagged as AI.
Paul is probably the greatest tour guide, no, greatest person to ever roam the planet, even greater than Jordan, Brady, Messi, anyone. If you're second guessing whether or not to book this tour, do it because you definitely won't regret it. To put it bluntly, Paul is a life saver. Me and Paul had a tour in Afghanistan, and Paul threw himself onto a grenade to save us all and miraculously survived. When I was injured and required a lung transplant, Paul literally ripped out his own lung on the spot and surgically implanted it into my body and I was able to pull through. If Paul had a favorite country, it'd be Nepaul. Thank you Paul! Now, about the tour, it's pretty fun, hot during the summer, and probably will have a lot of people. The cenote's really great though. It was only two days, and it feels like it's been a lifetime with him. BOOK THIS!!
Wonderful 3 part visit that was punctuated by a greatvhost, Jesus, and driver John. They were both very kind, professional and a joy to have with us to navigate and explain the tour. It's a long day though, so be prepared!
Please book Paul! We had 2 trips out with Paul this one with Chitchen Itsa and Cenote and also a full tour of Cancun (old and new). Both were amazing and made even more special because of Paul and his enthusiasm, knowledge, recommendations and just being a top guy. He also gave us tonnes of info for the rest of our holiday. The free photos and videos are a complete added bonus too! Brilliant!
Paul gave us an unforgettable, top-notch experience exploring one of the wonders of the world—at an unbeatable price! If you're in Cancun and planning a visit to Chichen Itza, skip the crowded group tours and book a private tour with Señor Travel Bug Mexico. Paul goes above and beyond to make sure everything runs smoothly and efficiently. We did all we wanted in just 11.5 hours—no long entry lines, no unnecessary delays. After all our research, no one offered a better deal. Highly recommend!
TLDR: Let me save you some time. If you’ve gotten this far looking for a tour guide to Chichén Itzá, you should just book Paul now. You will not find a better option in all of Mexico. Honestly, book him for two different tours. You can thank me later. Full Review: If you’re like me, you want to go to Chichén Itzá, you’d rather not ride a bus, you prefer a more personal experience, and you want someone who knows what they’re doing. This is the service Paul provides and he is an excellent guide. My family (44m, 44f, 16m, 12m) took his Chichén Itzá tour over spring break and it was a highlight of our trip. (Even my 12-year-old son said it would be worth a trip back to Cancún just to go on another tour with Paul.) Paul is an old school world traveler. He has lived in and visited cities and countries around the world. He has embraced the wonder that is the Yucatan Peninsula and he enjoys sharing his experience and knowledge. The drive is 2.5 hours one way, yet he makes the trip interesting and entertaining. He was very attentive to our needs and interests, and he wanted to ensure we had a great day. It felt more like spending the day with the friend of a friend, than a guided visit to a museum. Visiting Chichén Itzá was an experience that will be a life long memory. With the early start, we walked into the grounds just moments after they opened, and were able to experience the highlights of the ruins before the crowds descended (and boy were there crowds). Paul provided excellent insight on the ruins and really helped to bring the history to life. He was able to give details and context you could never get in a group tour. We walked around the ruins for 3+ hours and there wasn’t a dull moment. (As we were leaving, the lines at the turnstiles coming in had to have been 100 people deep, and the buses were backed up waiting for spots to clear in the parking lot. Don’t get here late). For lunch, Paul suggested a taco place that’s more popular with locals than tourists (La Tía De Kaua). It was amazing. If you like tacos, this is the place for you. There is no menu, just pork or sausage. We got both and ate enough for a small village. After lunch, we hit up a cenote for some swimming, and it was just what we needed. Even in early April the temps were near 100F and the cool water of the cenote was refreshing. Our boys loved the rope swing, and were disappointed when it was time to leave. Now we get to how Paul set himself apart from the other guides. Like most tours, we planned to visit and explore Valladolid next. The city looks very much worth a visit, but for several reasons, we just weren’t feeling it that day, and decided to head back towards Cancun. Paul could have just taken us back to the hotel, finished up early, and I would have considered it a great day. Instead, using what he learned about us, he suggested an alternative place to visit on the way home. At his recommendation, we visited the Shrine to Mary Undoer of Knots. We had not even heard of the shrine before, but it was absolutely perfect. The shrine is gorgeous and deeply moving. In visiting it, Paul gave us a personally meaningful experience above and beyond any of our expectations. I have had the privilege to travel to many places and I’ve had hundreds of guides, docents, hosts, park rangers, and the like. Paul is simply world class as a guide. He is the definition of professional, and one of the very best I’ve ever worked with. I recommend him without reservation and I would tour with him again in a heartbeat. Book his tour, you won’t regret it.
AMAZING Private Experience! Our family of 4 (2 daughters 11 and 14) had an incredible day from start to finish. We started early and beat the crowds at Chichén Itzá, which was fantastic. Paul was an excellent guide—fun, engaging, and informative. He made the whole experience enjoyable for our entire family. One of the nicest touches was that Paul took photos of us throughout the day—beautiful, candid moments we’ll truly cherish forever. It was so thoughtful and allowed us to just enjoy the experience without worrying about capturing every shot. After exploring, we enjoyed a delicious traditional lunch in a more secluded, authentic spot. The food was amazing and served by warm, genuine people. Our girls especially loved it! To top it all off, we visited a cenote—such a fun and unforgettable experience for everyone. Riding in the bug was a blast—smooth and comfortable—and Paul was a very safe, cautious driver. Truly a memorable day—off the beaten path, we couldn’t have asked for better, we are a globetrotting family and this tour is at the top of our list. Thank you Paul, we will be back for another adventure very soon
Paul’s local knowledge enabled us to see, do, learn, and taste much more than we could have managed without his expertise. Amazing sights, great info, great conversation. Paul was prepared with all the supplies we needed, kept a good schedule that didn’t feel rushed but made sure we had time for everything we wanted, took amazing photos and video, and had local connections that made us feel like visiting friends, not tourists. He really leveled up our vacation!
We had the most amazing tour with Paul. We wanted to go off the beaten track a little, see some wildlife and get a sense of how life in Mexico is. Well it certainly met our expectations and much much more. Beautiful Isla blanca, fantastic authentic Mexican food with beautiful views, a secret church and the delights of Cancun square- the day was full of truly unforgettable moments. Paul was very knowledgable with many interesting anecdotes from living in Mexico for so long. He took time and attention to understand what we wanted from our day as a family of four with a 6 and 8 year old. Even though we used the Q5 for most of the day which we chose for the AC, Paul kindly stopped at home at the end of the day to swap for the beetle for the last leg so we could experience it- just fantastic! Thank you Paul, we will be back again!
Our driver Paul was outstanding! He was knowledgeable about all the sites, as was Fabi our local Mayan guide at the ruins. The Beetle was very fun to be in. It was a little tight, but the ride was a lot of fun and brought some good laughs with the teenagers who foundly remember their grandpa's Beetle. Paul's pictures were great! He knew the best locations to snap family photos and had us smiling and laughing the entire trip, which is no small tasks with teenagers. Made a great local restaurant recommendation and was flexible with our stops and activities. I would highly recommend this tour or any other tour that Paul is doing or coordinating. If you are going to Cancun area, don't hesitate to hire him for any trip.
Our day trip to Chichén Itzá, the cenote, and Valladolid with Paul was truly unforgettable. From the moment he picked us up exactly on time at our hotel, everything was seamless. Paul is incredibly knowledgeable — he shared fascinating insights about every stop, from the rich history of Chichén Itzá to the hidden gems around Valladolid that we would’ve never discovered on our own. What really made the experience stand out was Paul’s genuine passion for what he does. As a special touch, he also happens to be an amazing photographer! He captured beautiful, natural moments of me and my family throughout the day — memories we’ll cherish forever.
We asked Paul ( Señor Travel Bug) to plan a week-long vacation for our family. Our goal was to stay in Cancún, but experience a wide range of highlights the region has to offer, as well as some typical resort vacation pleasures. Paul carefully planned and recommended tours and activities, including important cultural sites like Chichen Itzá and Tulum, as well as some of the natural wonders of the region like different cenotes and wildlife reserves. We got to experience small towns and local cuisine, as well as some of the nightlife and beaches that draw tourists to the area. Paul considered our wishes, preferences and budget when curating our itinerary. We were presented with options and projected costs for each day, so that we could make informed decisions and not be surprised by unexpected costs. On our tours with Paul, we benefitted from his extensive knowledge of the area and his photography skills, which allowed us to document our adventures while fully focussing on the experience rather than having to take our own pictures. Touring in the beetle certainly added to the fun! Some days, we explored on our own, following Paul’s excellent recommendations of places to go and things to do in the area, including one day at an all-inclusive hotel to get a taste of this type of vacation also. We could not have asked for a better week and our family made incredible memories! For an attentive, knowledgeable, and fun expert of the Cancun area and beyond, we highly recommend Señor Travel Bug for all your travel needs. Muchas Gracias, Paul! Julia & Family
We had an amazing day with Paul! We highly recommend it. We had a fun trip to Chichen Itza where we learned about Maya culture, architecture and astronomy. We then had a great lunch at a spot almost unknown or tourists and followed that up with a refreshing jump in a cenote. We capped it off with a chilled walkabout in Valladolid. While we were at lunch at an amazing off-the -beaten track place, we talked about not revealing our secret spots that we do not want everyone to know about. A trip with Paul is a bit like that, but I’d do everyone a disservice by not writing how much we enjoyed our day. Paul is a cool and fun person but what we loved most is that it was focused on what we wanted to do and the pace at which we wanted to go. We felt Paul was part of our group and not the other way around. Finally, Paul’s love for Mexico was totally genuine and infectious and it makes us want to come back and try his other tours.
We spent a wonderful day with Paul in his VW touring Chichen Itza, plunging into a refreshing cenote and touring Valladolid. The locations themselves were great, Paul is very knowledgeable and fun, but what we appreciated the most was that the tour went at our pace without feeling rushed in any way. We also loved the little place he brought us for lunch, which is off the beaten track and the tourist buses. He made us feel special and we appreciated how he documented our day with him with lots of pictures. I would greatly recommend this particular tour but I would also check out his other tours (we would do the food tour if we had more time in Mexico). Paul clearly loves Mexico and the area, and his enthusiasm for what Mexico has to offer is very infectious. Thanks again Paul, we hope to meet again!
We are a family of 4 with 2 young children aged 5 &7. Really wanted to see Chichen Itza but was worried about how long the big tour trips were, some quoting 16-18 hours. I didn’t want the usual waiting around for everyone so having a private tour for just the 4 of us really appealed to us. Our guide, Paul, was excellent and ensured the plan for the day was what we wanted from our day out. From the initial request we sent through to the post trip photos and video montage Paul sent to us shortly after it was a trip to remember and can’t fault anything. Communication prior to the trip was fast and really helpful. The timings of each part of the tour worked really well as we avoided the crowds and could stay as long or as little as we wanted at each location. Essential with 2 young kids to factor in who are full of energy one minute and the tired the next! The historical overview provided by Paul for all 3 locations was really interesting and engaging for the kids as well. All in all I’d highly recommend, pack your sunblock and enjoy the experience.
Our group of four had an unforgettable experience visiting Chichén Itzá! Our guide, Paul, is fantastic—super knowledgeable and passionate about the history of the site. He speaks multiple languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, and even a bit of Russian, which was a pleasant surprise! Not only is Paul an excellent guide, but he is also a former photographer, so he has amazing and fun ideas for posing. Thanks to him, we got some of the best pictures from our trip! On top of that, he was able to answer tons of questions about history and daily life in Mexico, making the experience even more immersive. The tour is well-organized, with comfortable transportation and plenty of time to explore. Paul’s storytelling brings the history of the Mayan civilization to life, making the visit even more special. Overall, this is a five-star experience, and we highly recommend it!
I would highly recommend this tour if you want a personalized experience with a very knowledgeable and down to earth tour guide. Paul was very accommodating to all of our needs and let us decide how long we wanted to spend at each place. We had a great day and owe most of that to Paul!
