Reviews
This trip was a bit disappointing for our family. Having done prior activities with Xcaret (Xplor, Xel-ha) we expected better quality. While the service on the boat itself was good, the snorkeling was unimpressive and stressful due to the crowd of people you’re forced into the water with. The actual snorkeling time in the water was mostly me and my family trying to get away from all the people bumping into us because they make everyone pack together in the water. There were some fish but the coral was relatively unimpressive. The worst part of the day was the Za Za beach club. The place is worn down, the food is below average and poor selection, and the music was awful - blasting a single blown speaker with so much distortion and crackling it was very distracting and unpleasant. The pool area looks like it was nice at one point, but has been poorly maintained so it was just deteriorating everywhere. The food was advertised as a “buffet”, which it technically was but we were told there was pasta and that was not true. So our kids, who are relatively picky eaters, ate nothing. The food quality was essentially the cheapest possible options and tasted about the same. Same for the drinks - only the sugary drinks were included, so if you wanted a drink with Coke for example you had to pay for that. The free time in Isla Mujeres was fine, but I’d highly recommend renting a golf cart for 90 minutes to 2 hours and getting the hell out of the Centro to go see the island and beautiful views on the south end. In Centro (and basically anywhere you stop), you will get constantly heckled and harassed to buy things, go into stores, etc. If you’re fine with crowds, low quality food & drinks, and being constantly overstimulated, this is the right excursion for you! Some people appeared to be having a great time, so good for them!
Great experience! You must live this at least once in your lifetime.
Amazing and fun to visit I had a great experience
We had a great time on this excursion. Mt wife had never snorkeled before and they made her feel very comfortable in the water. We would definitely do this excursion again.
Only book this trip if you want a spring-break-style party boat. The sails are never used, and from 8:30 in the morning onwards, the music is ridiculously loud. It’s honestly unbearable. And the biggest joke: at the beginning of the trip they highly encourage you to let them know if something is not ok for you, only they don't bother to listen and act when you do. The snorkeling tour is a complete nightmare. It’s so crowded that you can barely move, let alone enjoy the snorkeling. You’re not allowed to leave the group, even when you spot something interesting, so you’re basically stuck swimming in a crowded mass of people. The only good thing was the food at the beach club. Save yourself a lot of money and a terrible experience: just take the ferry!
The experience was amazing and the staff were really friendly and helpful! Would recommend booking with them.
Horrible horrible ! Did not even get on the boat because it was disgusting. The pictures and description say “luxury” catamaran. This is just an oversized ferry. Me and my friend were shocked and the pictures on the website are completely different . Not luxury at all. We immediately walked off the boat and did not go. It was extremely loud and no where to even sit . We ended up going on another actual catamaran that was half the price and actually “luxury”. This is very misleading and false advertising , better off just paying 7$ for the public ferry
David our guide was fantastic from start to finish the whole trip was amazing would recommend to anyone
Amazing experience during our visit to Isla Mujeres, Xcaret team make our trip great, their service on board and the experience going back to Cancun was great! They have like a little party to have everyone participate either if youre celebrating anniversary or birthday
Xcaret was the best tour experience my kids and I have . I highly recommend this company, they are very safe fun and worth all the money. They do above and beyond for their guest. Extra snacks and drinks on board. Alexander and his team was the life of the party on board!
Easy to purchase tickets online. Easy process with boarding the ferry and a smooth journey to cross over from Cancun to Isla Mujeres. Comfortable and modern vessels. Would highly recommend to others.
Xcaret hotel lounge on airport
Catamaran Merlin had an amazing crew. Drinks were cold, activity was fun and on the way back we dance the entire time.
the experience was amazing and they were very attentive and helpful and also made sure we had fun on our travel to Isla Mujeres. The service staff was very accommodating and communicative Marlene was the name of the boat.
Catamaran tour its a no no in my opinion Just want to share my opinion because I wish I read something before wasting our precious time at Xcaret by taking this tour. First of all You start the day at 9.30 with a bus trip to Cancun that take aprox 1.5 hours. The catamaran is boarding at 12, so you waste another hour around in the heat, or you visit the Xcaret store and spend more money, of course the catamaran itself its just a medium one, not too big, but they manage to put 120 people on it so you have to find a spot and sit tight for a couple of hours with a 25 min snorkeling time. Let me tell you, this is not our first time on a catamaran, but this just felt like a quantity over quality experience, with no enjoyable conditions. We decided to get off the boat and return to the resort so we can at least enjoy the day. Big surprise though, even though people on the boat said that we will get help to get back, they did not care less, we had to take a cab on our own. I also have to mention here that we are members at the resort, between first 100 to became members. And thats because we loved it so much here, but men, things changed so much since then...as I said, quantity over quality...this what is happening now. If this would be our first experience with Xcaret, I would never become a member, ever! Sorry for the long post, but hoping it will help someone...
One of the highlights of our Cancun vacation. My wife and I, along with our family, booked the Xcaret Prime Access Catamaran experience and had an incredible time. The catamaran was beautiful, the Caribbean views were breathtaking, and the entire excursion was organized from start to finish. What really made the experience special was the crew. Every member of the team was friendly, professional, attentive, and always willing to help. They created a fun atmosphere while making everyone feel safe and comfortable throughout the trip. Prime Access was well worth it and added an extra level of comfort and service. We made memories that will last a lifetime and would absolutely recommend this experience to anyone visiting Cancun. Thank you to the entire Xcaret team for making our day so memorable.
It was good and fun experience was amazing
Great time great people, boat was clean and on time. Good was great
It was amazing time! We had a lot of fun
Fantastic trip. Great day out. Snorkelling was amazing
The catamaran staff really made the experience, everyone was very friendly, fun and informative. I liked how they celebrated birthdays and anniversary, very thoughtful The food was great on the island Music on the catamaran was great The amount of time you had to explore the the island was perfect
My husband and I had the best day! We booked through carnival cruise lines, and we had about 45 people on our excursion. I can’t pick a favorite part of the day because we loved it all so much! The snorkeling was such a neat experience, it was my first time. My husband had issues with his snorkeling mask because of his facial hair, so I would recommend bringing your own mask if that might be an issue, he will be doing that next time. I really think the best part was the staff! We loved Angel and his crew who all took such fantastic care of us. We had margaritas, we snorkeled, we played on the beautiful clean beaches, we swam, we played. We decided not to eat, but others did, and they seemed to be pleased with the food. We felt safe and cared for the entire time we were off our cruise ship. I highly recommend this excursion, and I can’t wait to go back again!
It was the best day! We had so much fun with our family, other's, and the crew. Great experience, wish it was longer time at each stop.
Anything XCARET is the ABSOLUTE BEST…must do!
They were lovely. The private beach was clean. The food was great The boat staff attentive. David was fun
we did the light tour so just the sandwich but they where big and delicious it was filling, the staff where the best part they where so friendly and fun I highly recommend doing this tour
While the time on the boat was a lot of fun with drinks, music, and attentive staff, the rest of the trip was disappointing. The snorkeling was too crowded with people who could barely swim and there was nothing to see. We were told the lunch buffet could accommodate allergies, but when we arrived they could not tell me which food was safe and could not find anyone who knew. My kids went hungry. This is just as well, as my husband ended up with food poisoning that evening and that buffet is the only place he ate and we did not. The island is an absolute tourist trap. Nothing to do but shop or rent a golf cart and hawkers in your face at every turn. We did find a lovely restaurant by the beach where my allergic kids could eat and then went back to the catamaran. We would not choose this tour again.
Second year. We get to celebrate with you. We cel our 26th Wedding Anniversary. All your staff made our day extremely fun, memorable and special. Thank you so much. God bless you all.
All of the workers on this boat are lovely! Always bringing us drinks and food. They make it such a fun experience with the music and dances
We stayed at the Riu Latino resort hotel outside Cancun which is fairly new, and was very nice, and booked the Xcaret day trip via catamaran to Isla Mujeres with snorkelling at a reef area on the route to the Isla.. It ended up being essentially a ferry to Isla Mujeres with a 20 minute snorkeling stop. The whole trip had music blasting at deafening decibels. We then were dropped off at the island which is jam packed with tourists, shops and bars, and guided to a tequila tasting shop where there is significant pressure to buy a bottle of the grog, then left to figure out what to do for 3 hours. Granted the crew was attentive and friendly, and the drinks flowed freely. But it certainly wasn’t we had been hoping for. The trip is advertised as being for ages 5 - 99 and while they do say in their literature the snorkelling is recommended for those 60 and under there is no reference that snorkelling at their stopover on the reef would not be permitted for those older than that. However as we neared then snorkelling area, the main greeter and tour pumper upper who had the announcing mike approached me and my girlfriend and told us the captain would not allow us to go snorkelling as he feels we look as if we could not do it. I am 78 and my girlfriend is 75, we are both slim and participate in sports such as curling, snowboarding and pickleball at home, and swim frequently in our lakes up in Ontario Canada, and we indicated we felt we had snorkelled before, and could snorkel quite easily for the 400 meter distance to snorkel over the reef area in the stop. The staffer said it was the captains decision and that it was their policy. At this point in the refusal my daughter whom had been listening to all this asked to see the 'policy' that prevents us from snorkelling. The staffer left to consult the captain and came back to say the captain now says that I could participate but not my girlfriend with the implication she looked too old or too frail. My daughters and the others in our party of 14 friends and family insisted we'd would be fine and they would snorkel beside us. Others on the trip beside us on the boat shook their heads in disapproval and called out the captain's decision; and after this completely embarrassing display of blatant sexism and ageism in front of dozens of passengers, they relented and gave us a life vest, snorkel and mask (no fins). They were very insistent that everyone keep up with the guide who would lead the snorkellers over the reef, and my girfriend and I completed the snorkel easily and were close to the front of the pack, which consisted of many overweight, out of shape and at least partially intoxicated revellers. If it had taken place in a more advanced country I would have documented the whole thing and sought damages, however in Mexico we have learned you just take what is given whether it is discriminatory or not. If Xcaret tours does wish to prohibit seniors over a certain age from snorkelling on their trips, they should put it in their website and advertising very clearly up front, so people can make a choice to go or not before purchasing tickets. If it is up to 'the captain' to decide who can snorkel or not based on if he feels the passenger 'looks' too old or too feeble to participate, this should also be made clear on their brochures, website etc. If they require that a liability waiver be signed, no issue there, but every individual on the tour should have to sign the same waiver and not be discriminated against based on presumed age or physical ability. Xcaret should be ashamed and be banned by the local government from offering such tours until they correct their advertising information and amend their procedures. Gord disappointed from Canada
Wonderful experience definitely recommend the crew and everyone working with the experience was so inviting and happy. I’m from the US and it was just beautiful. The only sad thing was snorkeling was too dangerous due to weather so it was canceled but it was a great experience otherwise.
I went with my sister and had a great experience, even though it was raining a lot and we couldn’t snorkel, we still had so much fun. The crew member was great, 100% recommend ✨
The boat had a Great crew. We had a great time on the ship and we felt very safe through whole trip. Thanks crew! Thank you Xcaret.
Very enthusiastic crew, we had a blast. My wife and I enjoyed ourselves very much. Thank you for the awesome time. We'll be back to enjoy this trip again.
The experience was wonderful and definitely worth it. Drinks were good . Alexander was very friendly and helped us a lot throughout our tour.
Very good lots of ulimited free drinks, nice snorkle spot lots of fish, really enjoyed it. Nice lunch aswell . Really recommend
The catamaran trip was truly one of the highlights of our Cancún vacation. From the moment we boarded, everything was well-organized and the crew was incredibly friendly and professional, making the whole experience feel relaxed and enjoyable. Sailing across the turquoise Caribbean Sea was absolutely breathtaking. Lying on the deck with the ocean breeze, warm sunshine, and endless blue water around us felt like the definition of a perfect holiday. The snorkeling stop was also amazing — the water was clear, and we were able to see colorful fish and coral reefs up close. Even for beginners, it felt safe and easy thanks to the attentive staff. After snorkeling, the vibe on the boat was so fun and laid-back. With music, drinks, and everyone laughing and relaxing, it felt more like a floating beach club than a tour. Nothing felt rushed or stressful — we had plenty of time to enjoy the scenery, take photos, or just sit back and enjoy the moment. Overall, this catamaran experience was the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation. If you’re visiting Cancún, this is absolutely something you should not miss — it’s the kind of experience you’ll remember long after the trip ends.
The tour to Isle Mujeres was made memorable by the team. Their hospitality and dedication to service was remarkable. Every crew member took care of minute details and provided a rewarding, eventful experience. Would recommend this tour to others and the entire team. Thanks for creating a wonderful experience for all the people on board.
yes it was a good experience ! recommend it to everyone! Good food and drinks! A bit pricey but good when combined with other tours.
Friendly workers and good service. Definitely would recommend. Lots of drinks and a pretty good buffet too choose from.
AMAZING SERVICE!!!!! all the stage on bises and so incredibly kind and provided refreshments at all time. Had a great time onboard
Amazing day on the catamaran with Alexander and crew! Beautiful day for sailing, excellent snorkeling and tons of dance fun on the way back to port.
This had been billed as a snorkeling tour through Hotel Ixcaret. It ended up being essentially a ferry to Isla Mujeres with a 20 minute snorkeling stop. The whole trip had music blasting at deafening decibels. We then were dropped off at the island to figure out what to do for 3 hours. The crew was very attentive and friendly, and the drinks flowed freely. But it certainly wasn’t we had been hoping for.
This catamaran day trip to Isla Mujeres was absolute chaos in the best possible way – and I mean that as the highest compliment. From the very first minute, it was clear this wasn’t a “sit quietly and admire the ocean” kind of tour. David, the onboard entertainer, is loco (in a fantastic way). The man is the party. Highly recommended if you enjoy laughing and dancing. The drinks? Non. Stop. No waiting, glasses just kept magically appearing. Open bar done right. Snorkeling was great, the beach club was relaxed and beautiful, and Isla Mujeres itself is pure postcard material. White sand, turquoise water, and just enough “wow” to make you forget the previous night’s tequila choices. And then… the ride back to Cancún. Let’s just say: dance floor activated. Music up, hands in the air, dancing, more dancing, and somehow even more dancing. A floating fiesta all the way back. Worth every single peso. Snorkeling, beach club, open bar, stunning island views, and a party from start to finish. 10/10 – would absolutely do it again. Bring sunscreen and zero dignity. 😄 Salud & Skål from Norway and Chetumal 🇸🇯🇲🇽
What a wonderful experience this was! Our captain was fantastic, and his crew was totally entertaining and enjoyable! We sang, we enjoyed refreshments, great food, and had a fantastic time on Isla Mujeres. I would recommend this to anyone! Viva la Mexico!
absolutely amazing. The team was very friendly. Will definitely take it again. Piña colada was the best. My friends and I really enjoyed it
Alexander and the crew were so kind and attentive. They made sure we had fun and were comfortable during the whole trip. The boat ride was super relaxing and we had the perfect amount of solo time on the island to look around and also relax. Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Xcaret hotels!
Everyone on board was so kind! Alexander is an amazing host! Good and drinks were included, making you need to bring minimal stuff and not spend any money!
Such an emersive experience and would definitely recommend if you are here, Alexander and his crew do everything to make you feel involved thank you for this experience
