Cancun Historic Downtown Food Tour With 7+ Authentic Tastings

Our small group of 3 was privileged to have a private tour with Hernan. Hernan was extremely knowledgeable, personable, and professional and made this intimate tour an enjoyable experience. The locations and food selections were wonderful. Make sure you arrive for the tour hungry - the food selections were authentic, flavourful and the portions were plenty. We had a fantastic time and learned a great deal about the history and growth of Cancun and evolution of its residents. This tour is highly recommended, and if you’re able, request Hernan as your guide - you won’t be disappointed.

Hernán was the best tour guide! We learned so much about the food we were eating and the local culture. Hernán is an expert at what he does and is extremely knowledgeable about Cancun history! He was also very reliable and texted me the morning of and right before the tour to make sure we could find him. Our taxi was not sure where to drop us and I was able to call Hernán to have him speak with the driver. So helpful! We had an absolutely wonderful time on this food tour. Alejandro was our guide from @SecretFoodTours. He took us to several downtown eateries in Cancun, and the food was fantastic. Nice portions and freshly prepared. My favorite was chilies en nogada at Pescaditos, a deep fried jalapeño stuffed with cream cheese. It was not hot, but very tasty. Next time in Cancun, you must take this tour. Thank you for the incredible experience Alejandro!

Hernán was our guide. He was very knowledgeable and talked about lots of history and detail of Cancun. All the restaurant stops were great!

Alex was so kind and patient with us during the entire tour! We got to stop along the way to get water as needed (it was pretty hot during the tour so be mindful of what you wear during). If you have certain food restrictions, Alex helped with accounting that as well. He also waited with us after the tour until our ride came to pick us up!

Hernan Osuna was an amazing tour guide of Cancun along with the history of the city. He was very friendly and knowledgeable, took us places that a usual tourist would not be aware of to visit. Highly recommend Hernan!

Hernan arranged an excellent trip for us. We ate plenty of food and learned the history of the area. The restaurants were top choices and were researched beforehand by the guide. His love of Cancun and good food was noticeable. If you leave hungry- it is you not the tour. Hernan worked around by food allergy.

We had SO much food and got to learn a bit of the history behind the blocks at the same time. What a steal 😂 Every single thing we tried was good, so walking around downtown is never a waste of time. If you leave hungry, that’s honestly on you. 😭

We always enjoy food tours. This is our third using Secret Food Tour; the other two in San Francisco. They have all been great; good food, interesting stories, fun facts. Cancún was our favorite because of our guide Hernan. He is the best host and a wonderful ambassador for Cancún has to offer. Our tour took us to many local places as well as some bigger more tourist friendly spots. All were delicious and provided a deeper exploration of Cancun and its food heritage. Hernan was always a step ahead of us; knowing when we needed a break from the sun, an extra beverage, or introductions to the many people he knew along our route. He definitely was a highlight for our family vacation to Cancun. I urge you all to book a tour with him.

We had such a wonderful food tour in Cancun with Harnun! He took us far beyond the typical tourist spots and introduced us to places that mostly locals know. We tried an incredible variety of authentic Mexican food, including traditional dishes with roots in ancient indigenous cultures—many flavors and foods we had never experienced before. Everything felt unique and special, and the delicious dessert at our final stop was the perfect ending. We did the tour as a family with our 9-, 16-, and 18-year-olds, and they all really enjoyed it. Harnun was fantastic with the kids—friendly, funny, easygoing, and very engaging. What made the experience even better was how knowledgeable he is. His English is excellent, and throughout the tour we talked about Mexican history, the Maya, Cancun, Isla Mujeres, Mexican family life, and even shared stories about his family and ours. Since we were coming from Isla Mujeres, he also gave us lots of interesting information and insight about the island. He is originally from Mexico City and has a wonderful knowledge of Mexico as a whole. Harnun made the tour feel less like a formal tour and more like spending a few hours exploring Cancun with a knowledgeable local friend. It was fun, relaxed, delicious, and genuinely interesting. If you want to experience a completely different side of Cancun beyond the beaches and resorts, we highly recommend this food tour—and especially Harnun. I was a bit nervous going on this tour solo, but I'm so glad I did. My group was just 4 people including myself the tour guide Hernán. The tour was filled with amazing food, great conversation, and lots of information on the city's history. Hernán is incredibly welcoming and it is clear that he loves what he does. From start to finish everything about this tour was fantastic and I cannot recommend it enough. This was truly one of the highlights of my trip :). Whether you are staying in the hotel strip or downtown you should absolutely book this tour. Thank you to Hernán and my tour group for making this an unforgettable excursion!

This foodie tour was absolutely amazing So hard to believe but it’s only been operating for a few months. I’m glad secret food tours decided to branch into Mexico. Alejandro was such a great tour guide. He is local so he knew the area and the restaurants very well and gave us great explanations about the history of Cancun as well as the food. I highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Cancun. It was such a great way to learn about the culture through the delicious food.

Our experience was amazing. Our tour guide Hernan was incredibly well informed on the history and Food of the area in Mexico as a whole. He was charming and pleasant. Very interesting to talk to. He answered our many questions. He was able to accommodate for one of our children who has a dairy intolerance. That was incredibly helpful as we’ve been on many food tours all the world, and this is the first one where she was able to participate in every tasting. I would say that this was one of the best food tours we’ve ever been on. The food was amazing at every stop. The secret item was one of my favorites. And we felt very safe and comfortable in Hernan’s care. I would highly recommend this tour and would suggest requesting Hernan as your guide. After the Food Tour, we wanted to go back to one of the spots we had visited and he graciously walked us there so that we wouldn’tget lost.

We had an excellent food tour in Cancun! Hernan was an amazing host. He has a profound knowledge of Yucatan and Mexican food and history. We went to Mercato 23 and other neighbouring markets. Authentic Mexican cuisine, delicious tacos, tortas, tostadas and sopa de lima. Wow! So many fresh and vibrant flavours. Hernan made the time go by with entertaining and educated cultural and culinary details. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants a deeper understanding of Mexican food.

Alex spent nearly 4 hours showing us around mercado 23, mercado 28 and the parque. We ate at around 6 different eateries. Alex told us about each dish, the local area and the history or Cancun. Such a great tour to do.

We try to do food tours in cities we visit and this was by far the best one we’ve ever been on! Hernan was so knowledgeable about Cancun and its history, it really added to the food experience. All of the vendors he picked were delicious! He even had to pivot on one when he found the original place closed and picked a great substitute. We loved every minute of it, thanks to Hernan!

We booked this tour a few weeks' prior to our Cancun trip and it was a FANTASTIC tour. Not only was all the food very local and excellent, but with a personal tour guide we learned so much about Cancun's history, current situation, culture and Mayan heritage. Our tour guide, Hernan, was outstanding and provided so much insight that we just wouldn't have received on our own. Totally worth it and highly recommend!

Toured the city with Hernan. He was a great ghost, extremely knowledgeable and welcoming. We enjoyed talking with him just as much as he great food he brought us to. The meet up location was a little sketchy but once we connected with Hernan we felt safe.

Awesome experience. This is a fairly new offering, according to Alex, our tour guide, this tour had started in February, but we had amazing time. Meeting spot is off the regular touristy pathways - take a cab or Uber( cheaper) At a supermarket 23 - a local produce shopping area. Tour leads the group through historical downtown Cancun passing various restaurants with cuisine not found in your regular tourist spots. Even though the description stated 3hr tour, we spent almost 5hrs. However, alternation of walking, then sitting down and eating and talking with the tour guide, time really flew. Tour ended at the Cancun town hall where we took the pictures by ourselves and tour guide. Our tour guide Alex was great. He had good knowledge about Cancun history as well as various types of cuisine featured during the tour. Highly recommend for people who are interested in earning about Cancun's history while eating delicious food offerings.
