We will visit the place where exactly just began the conquest of the Canary Islands, in the Plaza of San Antonio Abad and old Portuguese street. We will also visit, famous Balconies street, where can be admired the first noble houses after the conquest of the island. There also is placed the Plaza of the new Pillar with its fountain dated XVIII just in the rear of the Cathedral. Just turning to the right we will get into the Sacred Art (Religious) Museum as well as the Cathedral of Santa Ana, (optional) with its Gothic interior and its historical contribution. We will continue down the plaza de Santa Ana, with its monumental buildings emblematic and representative of the society. We conclude in the House of the Governor or Columbus Museum, (entry optional) where we will be ending this historical tour. Christopher Columbus used this island of Gran Canaria in three occasions, 1492 (discovery) 1493 (colonization of America) 1502 (last tour).

Great value for an hours tour. Our guide Marie was very knowledgeable and friendly. Excellent English and area knowledge. Fit in with a day of wandering and museums and Amarie can point you in the direction of which things to see next if you want more time in the old town. We had teenagers with us so we wouldn’t do longer. It was a bit over their heads but perfect for us the parents!
Easy to find the starting place. No time lost in grabbing a bit of history and getting your bearings for the rest of your visit.
We walk a lot today in the old city part. The lady tell us about big old houses and balconies made of wood. I see the Santa Ana Cathedral, it is so big and very old stones. The ground is all rocks, my legs get a bit tired but it is okay. She talk about Christopher Columbus and how he stop here long time ago. We have a cold drink after in a small shop, very quiet and nice. I take many pictures of the colorful walls for my family.
It was a Spanish and English tour. The guide spoke a lot more to the Spanish speakers than the English speakers. We got a 1-2 minute explanation of sites while it was twice as long plus better question/ answers interaction. To be fair, there was an English speaking couple who questioned and added their own version to everything she said. (I am not sure who was right or wrong about the history). Her voice didn’t carry to those of us on the edge plus we felt like second class citizens being English speakers.
Nice walk around the old town. Just enough information to tell you about the history of the place. Our guide was super friendly 😀 I would recommend it to anyone who would like a short tour, pointing out the must see buildings.
The meeting place was dirty and nowhere clean to sit and wait for the start. When we finally started, there were 42 people in our tour. It was overcrowded and multilingual Spanish and English. It was a large group so took a lot of space in the narrow roads and the guide spoke 2/3rds of the time in Spanish, so we spent a lot of time standing around waiting. At each stop the lady guide asked us if we knew why or what about landmarks, which we of course knew nothing. This questioning of us at every stop became annoying. After twenty minutes we gave up and left the tour very disappointed. The first time we have ever done so.
Hard to find the meeting point because the address changed and/or it doesn’t match the pinpoint on the map.
(I'm afraid I've forgotten our guide's name) but she was delightful, knowledgeable and helpful and helped me with my Spanish studies by pointing out some local, historical signs and challenging me to interpret them. Of particular interest was the Calle de los Balcones and the area in front of the catedral. Also, it was so easy to book through TripAdvisor We went back the next day for lunch at a wonderful little Italian restaurant nearby called La Dolce Vita in Millares Torres
Tour lasted one hour; somewhat short to cover most of the old town. Learned new facts, historical and present, but due to time limitation superficial. Would like two hour tour with 15 minutes rest halfway.
First of all this tour was advertised as being in ENGLISH. But it was in Spanish (first) and English (second). The time devoted to explanations in English took up less than 50% of the one hour allotted with a goup of Spaniards in Carnival dress receiving the best attention. Secondly the tour guide Maria responded badly and incorrectly to important questions about the City/Island History. She specifically denied that the Portuguese had been in ownership of islands in the Canaries when history shows that in the 1300's they claimed priority to the Islands. During the 15th century Castile and Portugal were the primary contenders for ownership of the Islands She also denied that the Spanish invaded the Island in the 15th Century. History is clear that they did so in around 1478. She did however berate some Dutch visitors for destroying part of Las Palmas in the 16th century and remembered that the British under Drake also tried to plunder the town. Amazing selective memory!! So ignorance or denial of facts apart, the general content of the short tour was uninformative. During 2019 I took city tours in Faro, Braga, Guimaraes and all were excellent, another in Palma was just about OK BUT THEY WERE ALL FREE....in fact I gave a larger tip than the cost of this Las Palmas tour. I have asked Trip Adviser for my money back.
Very helpful guide named Maria took us round and gave us the history of the key places. Opportunity to ask questions. Recommended.
The tour given mainly in spanish, was short! When the guide spoke english she spoke a very, very fast variant, difficult to understand! Poor tour!! A disappointment!!
This short tour is a nice introduction to the old part of the city, ideal for people on short visits and get the taste of the island's origins. The guide Maria gets 5*, she is knowledgeable and has to simultaneously do the tour in English and Spanish. Which brings me to why 4* for the tour. I appreciate there aren't enough customers to have a guide for each language, but nowhere on the trip advisor description does it say the tour is done in two languages on one go. I was ready to tour for one hour, where in reality we have to wait until everything is explained in both languages at the stops. I didn't mind as I'm bilingual and Maria is great at explaining all details in both languages, but my partner isn't. The description here should be ammended so people know what to expect.
Took a while to get started due to having two different language groups together. Good, clear explanations at each stop. Leader had a pleasant manner and didn’t waste time.
After a not ideal start (the guide was late and did not seem to have been informed of my booking of the tour), Maria was a pleasant guide and the short walk around the old town was informative and interesting.
I really liked the guided tour in old town of LP. The guide was very lovely and knowledgable. She also gave us other tips on what to see in this lovely city and how to get there.
Maria was a really good guide, telling a lot of interesting facts about the people and buildings that made up early Vegueta. I recommend this tour to anyone interested in the origina of Las Palmas!
Very dedicated guide who conveys the individual sights with a lot of fun, with abundant historical background. You can tell she is proud to be from Gran Canaria. Much learned. Highly recommended.
Very short and shared with English speakers so the explanations of the guide (very professional) were done in 2 languages with the consequent loss of time
Lots of sun, quiet relaxing holiday. Old town of Las Palmas is definitely worth a visit as well as the beach and its promenade. Don't forget the market in Puerto de Morgan.
we walked mainly around the cathedral which we visited of course. it is huge and very beautiful. we took the elevator to go to the top of the tower. exceptional view from all sides. we also visited the “Casa de Colon”. beautiful museum.
I would have liked to hear more about the island’s history, not just anecdotes and characters. The part of Vegueta where trips to America are counted should be a little more cautious and neutral, the version for schoolchildren of “the Spanish went to save the natives” can sensitize participants if they are just from South America.
should be able to book in the same day and have more times. I want to book this afternoon and I can not. in any city there are free tours with more variety of times and Availability (in covers)
Very interesting, the friendly guide. Ideal for initiating knowledge of the history of the island. Maybe something short-lived.
This tour proposal is very good. The guide is very entertaining and knows a lot. Super recommended!!!!
Magnificent and highly recommended the night visit, history and legend with @tripgrancanaria. Visiting the historic center of Vegueta with Bruno a very pleasant guide, and the spectacular actress who animated the process
It has been a very pleasant visit with good explanations. A way to know something about Canarian history and that monuments and museums should not be missed. Mary's a sweetheart. Thank you.
Very charming and competent guide. Too bad that the tour is only offered in Spanish and English, although Selena speaks fluent German.
We did the tour with Bruno who explained every corner of this beautiful neighborhood with all its history full of details. Very entertaining and interesting. So it's nice to meet places with such professional people. Highly recommended
Maria Teresa helped us to know the neighborhood of Vegueta in a guided tour enjoyable, clear, professional and interesting. We got to know the history of the city and the most interesting peculiarities of the area from different points of view,: historical, artistic, anecdotal... in a well explained and pleasant way. Fully recommended.
We did the tour with Selene and it was great. Very well explained and all very interesting. Most recommended!!!
