When you get up before dawn to visit El Cajas National Park outside Cuenca, you want the day trip to go as planned. It did when we booked with Edison Juca and Polylepis Tours. With decades of personal knowledge, Edison (Eddy) knew every spot for birds and views. His field expertise as a bird guide and naturalist is backed by education/training. Under lousy conditions (rain, fog and chilly cold) we saw nearly 3 dozen species, including target birds (and we heard the noisy Turquoise jay). Cajas Park is notorious for its moody weather, but Eddy anticipated a downpour in time to find us cover so that we could continue birding, We expect that any tour with Polylepis Tours would be equally successful.
This a five hour tour and went all around sights near El Teide as expected. They used 2 vans for our English tour and we were in one with only Spanish driver. We were directed to the wrong pick up spot and wanted over 20 mins to find the driver. Then he drove like a racer up the narrow mountain roads, passing cars as he went.
Very interesting trip, really enjoyed it. We saw some beautiful scenery and stopped off at a nice cafe /shop. The only negative was that being in the back I couldn't hear what the guide was saying to the people sitting next to him. They seemed to be getting more info than the rest of us. Maybe some kind of speaker system would help. Over all though a great trip.
Great! Our guide was very informative and the scenery was gorgeous. From pick-up to drop-off it was a wonderful excursion.
What a great experience! Booked easily through TripAdvisor. Pick-up location three minutes from hotel was sent by WhatsApp the evening before. Pick-up was punctual in a clean, modern vehicle. Picking up other guests was quick because of the small group size. Some great stops at Vila Flor and el Pino Gordo. But the highlights were really the Roques de Garcia and the lava fields. At the Roques de Garcia we had a full hour to walk around, enjoy the views, explore the trails and visit the visitor centre/museum and cafe/gift shop. The lava fields are also really impressive - photos just don't capture it. Our guide, Ozzie, was just fantastic and really made the experience special. Multilingual (English, Spanish, Dutch and more) and with an amazing knowledge of both the history of the island and the science of the volcanoes. This really made it special as we got so much in-depth information that I'm not sure you'd get with other tours. The tour maximum size is 8 people, which is a great size for a personal experience. Space-wise in the van, we were 7 people and it was fine. But with 8 it would be a bit tight as the front seats are only really for 1.5 people. Also, if you're in the back you can't see the views so well when driving along because of the tinted windows. But plenty of great sites to see at the stops! Overall, a really great tour, very reasonably priced for the fantastic experience you get, and totally recommended! Thank you Ozzie!
Great trip! Well organized with enough time at each location. Interesting info about volcanos, friendly atmosphere
Great trip, Ozzi was a fun and knowledge host for the journey. Landscape is spectacular and the history fascinating
This trip was amazing and not to be missed. It was so good to see more of the area and get out to explore a little more. Lovely little surprises too which are worth seeing. Ozzie was so informative and interesting to listen to. This was a great way to end our holiday.
Terrible service. The trip was cancelled the evening before the scheduled time. Stated reason “problem with brakes of vehicle”. Hard to believe the company only has one vehicle! Still awaiting refund. Unreliable - don’t use!
This was perfect for family with small kids. Car seats provided, lots of space in car, lots of stops to take pictures and break up the journey and the stop at Vilaflor has a playpark! 4 hours total so can do something else in afternoon and kids not bored! Ozzi was great good with kids and lot of info.
This was a really good trip and we booked it as we didnt want to be in a big group on a coach. We were picked up in mini van with 5 other people. The guide was very informative and took us up to tiede pointing out various points of interest. We stopped in the crater near to a cafe and museum. We had an hour to look around and get something to eat. We then drove back down and did a couple of stops to see other volcanoes. There was plenty of time to ask questions and take photgraphs.
Excellent trip. Stunning scenery. Extremely informative tour guide. Would highly recommend. Don’t forget your camera!
A fantastic trip. Ozzie was a very knowledgeable guide who gave us a very interesting trip in the National park. Our two children enjoyed finding out about the volcanoes and spotting geckos. Just long enough to maintain their attention. Time in most stops was just right, but we would've liked 30 minutes in Vilaflor rather than 15 minutes because it was so beautiful. The lovely lady in the pastry shop kept us tasting pastries and wine and we didn't have a time to fully appreciate the village. Throughly recommend at an affordable price for a small group tour. Thank you Ozzie.
Ozzy's tour to Teide Natural Park was an absolute delight! His extensive knowledge of the area's volcanic rocks and history truly enriched our experience. Not only is he multilingual, but his sense of humor made the journey even more enjoyable. What stood out the most was Ozzy's calm demeanor and eagerness to share valuable tips about Tenerife. Although we didn't attend Ozzy's star gazing tour, his vivid description of it piqued our interest, demonstrating his profound knowledge of geological subjects. His enthusiasm for sharing such fascinating insights convinced us that it's a must-try experience for our next visit to Tenerife. We highly recommend touring with Ozzy to anyone visiting Tenerife; we're already planning to book another tour with him on our next visit!
Nice trip with friendly and knowledgable guide. Good for a first time visit to the national park as we got to see a variety of landscapes and the major highlights.
The guide did a very good job, telling a lot about Tenerife and the area we were in. It would have been 5 stars if the car had been larger and more suitable for the purpose.
Picked up at 9 and were a group of 8. The tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. We travelled up Mount Teide stopping regularly at points of interest and great views. The trip was great and enhanced by the personal experience. Our driver spoke multiple languages enabling everybody to have a great day. We were back at our hotel by 1:00. I would recommend this trip for couples as well as families as we had a lovely day.
Great experience!! Great van with airco, great context given by Ozzie, great storytelling, the experience was well organized, great timings. Would recommend to anyone, without a doubt 👏👏
I booked this tour before we arrived based on reviews of others. I cannot praise this trip enough! There were two adults and three children the youngest 9 and we ALL loved it. Because it's a small group (ours was 7) maximum is 8 and 5 were our group it was very personal and intimate compared to the large coach tours. We stopped for a fabulous coffee and pastry to acclimatise to the increased height and that was fabulous. We then followed a tour stopping at several really beautiful viewing spots before reaching Mount Tiede. The whole tour was so fascinating even to my 9 year old child; greatly helped by the enthusiasm of Ozzy our very passionately knowledgeable guide. I can't recommend this trip enough it really has been a highlight of our holiday in Tenerife.
We completed this tour when we visited Tenerife in May. Having never been before, we wanted to explore as much of the island as possible and we felt this tour was a great start to our holiday. We were in a small, comfortable, air conditioned vehicle, with a mixture of different travellers. Our tour guide was lovely - clearly very knowledgeable and made us all feel welcome. We stopped during our journey up to Teide at a small village, where we were able to visit a local shop for drinks and ice cream if we wanted before heading up and stopping at various points, where our guide filled us in on some of the history of the area and gave us chance to take some stunning photos. Would not hesitate to recommend this tour to anyone!
It is a shame that I can't rate more than 5 stars because this tour deserves more. Party of 8 people with mini van driver Ozzie as the guide. Unlike larger buses, we were able to stop at more places for photo shoots. His knowledge of the island and the volcanoes was unsurpassed. Explained everything in detail very concisely. Stopped in Vilaflor de Chasna for a barraquito coffee. Too many ingredients to mention, just try it for yourselves, very tasty. Then on into the Teide National Park, staying near theTeide volcano for a 1 hour stop for lunch etc. Had a stop in the 3rd largest crater in the world. Scenery was outstanding the whole journey, much of it above the clouds. Photo opportunity at the Chahorra which erupted in 1798bfor 92 days and joined the two separate islands into what is now Tenerife It was one of the best tours I have ever been on. Thanks again Ozzie, top man!
Spectacular scenery.... Ozi, the guide, knew all the best places and information and was a really nice bloke. A brilliant experience all round. I would definitely recommend. Also hotel pickup made it much better than other trips offered. Thanks for a great day.
Amazing trip! Confortable car, best driver et guide, we received a lot of informations all along the road, multiple interesting stops that a bus cannot do. The guide speaks many languages, he is friendly and kind person, has a lot of knowledges about Tenerife. We spend a beautiful day, the landscapes around Teide are just amazing, first time seeing a volcano crater, a must to do in Tenerife!
Brilliant experience! !Ozzie was a great guide, he was friendly and knowledgeable. Would highly recommend this tour.
Excellent tour. Ozzie the guide was extremely polite and helpful. He has a very deep knowledge of the history of Tenerife.
Typical day trip, felt like a lot of rushing but that's to be expected, nothing outstanding about the experience
Brilliant trip! Ozzie was a great tour guide and the trip had great stops for amazing views. I highly recommend this trip, and wish we had time to do other trips with him. Sadly we return to the UK tomorrow. We’ll seek him out when we are back again!
The views and stop points were very nice. Exceptional views. Our guide,Ozzie, was very knowledgeable. .Can recommend the small group tour as this gives a far nicer and unique experience. We only found that we did not have enough time to visit the museum at Roques de García.
Although we had a confirmed booking to be collected and dropped off at our hotel the guide, Ozzie, contacted us the night before asking us to make our way to a meeting point due to traffic. He said taxi would be £10 euros. Happy to accommodate at first, less so when we found taxi was 25 euros. The trip to Mt Teide itself was really enjoyable and Ozzie was a pleasant guide. After he had dropped off the other travellers we expected him to take us to our hotel but he refused, because he had another booking. He made his problem our problem and offered no apology. Not a man to do business with. There’s lots of choice for this trip. We paid another 25 euros to return to our hotel. We complained to Viator who gave us a 50 euros refund. That’s what I call good customer service.
The fact that I reached this spot just before sunset allowed me to enjoy a wonderful visual feast. but naturally there is a lot of darkness on the way back, so it is good to be careful when driving. I've seen sunsets in many places, but the sunset I saw here was probably the best I've ever seen. It's incredible to witness the great power of nature once again. It's definitely worth seeing once again. Along the way, you can stop at various observation points to take a break or take a photo.
Amazing time with a fun, nice and knowledgable guide, Ozzie! A lot of interesting information, small group (7 people when we went) so its a lot more enjoyable and hassle free. We have been picked up on time, close to our airbnb. Great stops with amazing photo opportunities. We also loved it being half day rather than a full one! Thank you for the great experience!
Knowledgeable and really friendly guide (Ozzi)! He taught us a lot about the history of this national park, its volcanoes and more, and even shared his own journey in life up to this point :) Some beautiful sights to see! We had 10 degrees + wind at one of the stops; consider bringing a jacket 👍
The views and stop off points were stunning. Ozzie, our guide was very knowledgeable. Exceptional views. Can recommend the small group tour as this gives a far nicer and unique experience
Great trip out to see the volcanoes and the national park. Ozzi is very knowledgeable on the area and its history. The max for the trip is 8 persons and there were 5 on this trip. We didn’t want to do a full day out so this was perfect for us around 5 hours in total. Nice stop off at a small coffee place on route and various stops for photos, they certainly know the best places to stop for the views ( Ozzi took a brilliant photo of us stood at the bottom of a huge pine tree, nice one 👍) The scenery and views ate really stunning. Really enjoyed it and would highly recommend the tour. Will be back to do the star gazing tour later this year
Solid well-paced tour with interesting stops and photo opps along the way so it never got boring. Great information along the way about Tenerife history and culture that was a slow build to seeing the actual volcanos and craters All of us REALLY enjoyed the small group of 8 as we were able to also get to know fellow tourists Highly recommend
The guide is the key! We had Ozzie, originally from the Netherlands, fluent in 5 languages and extremely knowledgeable on the history and volcanic formation of Tenerife. Very personable, we used him on a second trip to Masca and Garachico and believe me, you don't want to drive there on your own. With his Peugeot minivan, comfortable for 7 passengers + driver, the trips were very nice. Teide national park, Masca and Garachico are all a must.
Our guide was very knowledgeable on the area, he explained everything very clearly, so we did not have to read much of the signs that accompanied the viewpoints. The cafe we were brought to at the start of the trip was very nice. It was a fantastic day out and so much better than the big bus tours. I highly recommend this excursion.
The trip was great. Really enjoyed going to a local cafe in a small Village before we went up to the mountain. Our guide was very knowledgeable. We wish we had more time to look around. We had an amazing view of the sunset away from the hustle and bustle of bus loads of tourists.
This was overall an excellent trip, Ozzi's knowledge is second to none and we had plenty if opportunities to stop and admire the amazing views around the park. Just needed a bit longer at Parador to have time for lunch as a long trip, with drinks on van, would happily pay more for this
The number of photo opportunities on our travels. Ozzi was very friendly and cheerful in a nice and modern minibus. He was very knowledgeable about the landscape.
My advice would be to only book this if you want to be disappointed and let down. We booked this tour for our family for a Sunday and paid. They contacted us asking if we could do it on the following Monday. We told them we could not as Sunday was the last day of our holiday. They acknowledged this. We woke early on Sunday to a text message delivered at 10 to midnight that the tour was cancelled because of a "situation". At this late stage, we were unable to arrange any other trip and therefore missed out seeing the island. What a terrible way to treat your customers. If you did not want to run a tour on a Sunday, don't advertise it and certainly don't cancel it so late.
This tour was fantastic! Ozzy was brilliant and provided so much info about the area. We were picked up at our hotel and the whole thing was very relaxed from start to finish. The National Park itself is breathtaking and a must see for visitors to Tenerife. Ozzy made it that bit more special then on top! Highly highly recommend.
The tour guide was very patient and friendly, he definitely knew his stuff, you could tell he had years of experience with all the knowledge he had about tenerife and the national park, he took us to a very nice coffee shop that isn’t really a stop with other tours, this was a small party of 8 by the way, so a lot easier to get around. He stopped us at plenty of photo ops and we got to see loads of beautiful places
Excellent trip, Ozzi was brilliant, looking after all of us on minibus, good to see Mount Tiede, 46 years since last visited
Pick from hotel as stated in the advert. Price of the trip was doubled because of taxi costs. Would not recommend
Teide national park is a must visit in Tenerife! Amazing scenery and history. My tour guide Ozzi made this experience easy and fun, providing so much interesting knowledge and facts!
Excellent excursion. Very informative and a very comfortable ride. We got to see loads of different parts of the national park. Highly recommend.
Really enjoyable trip. Our guide Ozzi was very knowledgeable and informative and you really get a different, more tailored experience in comparison to larger bus tours which we’ve done in the past. Lots of opportunities and stops for great photos. Pick up and drop off at hotel and pick up times clearly communicated the day prior to the trip. Would definitely recommend.
we have got even more than expected good tranport, good and charming guide Ozzi the stops were interesting, on very interesting places including time for refreshment we were informed about the history of Teide and Tenerife just a great trip, which had a start\finish in front of our hotel
