My wife and I did this trip.I hike a lot where my wife doesn’t.They catered for us both. New transport was nice smooth ride with competent driving. Knowledge from native guides was vast with some humour. After tour made detour to the bus stop so we could go back to our hotel 20 miles away. Bus service on the Island is superb and not costly so please use.
Excellent small group (6 people) tour. Inez and Juan do their utmost to make this a great experience.
What an amazing Trip! Massive thanks to Inés, Juanjo and Lupita, their talking, singing van. Their enthusiasm was infectious and their knowledge of Gran Canaria and the geology of the rock formations was so interesting. We learnt so much. It was a breathtaking view from the top and we would thoroughly recommend this trip. It was great fun and we’ll definitely be going somewhere else with them again when we return to Gran Canaria.
Our hiking trip to Roque Nublo was one of our highlights to Gran Canaria. Our guides were fun, locals and super knowledgeable about the area and customs. We not only hiked but learned a lot along the way. We had appropriate stops which were appreciated and gave us an opportunity to learn a little more and regroup. Our group was small (we had 5) which gave us the personalized experience we we looking for. Well done!
We recently took this tour company’s hiking excursion to see the iconic Roque Nublo, and overall it was a memorable experience that I’d recommend to the right travelers. The Journey There: Cheesy Fun The long drive to the trailhead could have been tedious, but Juan and Ines kept us thoroughly entertained with stories about ancient Canarian culture and history. Yes, it was a bit cheesy at times – especially when they had the van (affectionately named “Lupita”) “singing” to us – but honestly, their enthusiasm was infectious and made the time fly by. You could tell they genuinely loved sharing their island’s heritage and made us feel a part of their family during the tour. The Hike: Beautiful but Challenging Here’s where I need to set expectations straight: this hike is marketed as “easy,” but that’s misleading. While it’s only 1.5 kilometers, don’t let the short distance fool you. Some sections are quite steep and rocky, and you definitely need to be in decent physical shape to tackle it comfortably. I’d classify this as moderate difficulty, not easy. That said, the payoff is absolutely worth it. Roque Nublo is truly one of the most spectacular natural monuments you’ll ever see – a massive volcanic rock formation rising dramatically from the landscape. The views from the base are breathtaking and make every challenging step worthwhile. Food Considerations The tour includes lunch, which is a nice touch. However, as vegans, we found the options quite limited. We could only eat the gofio (a traditional Canarian flour-based dish that was actually quite interesting to try) and the apples. If you have dietary restrictions, I’d recommend bringing some backup snacks or discussing options with the company beforehand. Bottom Line Despite the misleading difficulty rating and limited food options for special diets, I’d still recommend this tour to anyone who wants to experience one of Gran Canaria’s most iconic natural wonders. Just come prepared for a workout and bring extra snacks if needed. Best for: Reasonably fit hikers who enjoy cultural storytelling and don’t mind a bit of cheesy entertainment along the way. Bring: Good hiking shoes, water, and backup snacks if you have dietary restrictions.
Interesting tour with small group. Juanjo drove very carefully on the twisting roads. Ines gave good explanations of the places we visited. They were very good with the young girl on the tour. The walk up to Roque Nublo was difficult in places, even though we walk regularly at home which is only 30m above sea level! So at 74 years old and at 1800m, it was a challenge. The viewing points and the little town we visited were very picturesque. Thank-you both for a very pleasant day.
Inés and Juanjo are absolutely amazing at what they do. The entire day was more of a full experience than just a tour, enriched by their passion as locals as well as a true love for the environment and history of the island. The transport (Lupita) was exceptionally comfortable and we were regaled with wonderful stories and music throughout our journey. The hike is made all the easier knowing Inés and Juanjo have travelled these paths thousands of times and know the most appropriate and safest routes to the most beautiful locations according to guests abilities. The picnic was a highlight for sure, having reached one of the most beautiful locations we have ever seen and is just by itself an amazing experience. Each stop along the way only made the tour even better, with rich history and scenery hand picked to leave us with lasting memories of the true beauty of Gran Canaria. We would 100% recommend this tour to anyone that wants to see Gran Canaria at its finest, and we hope to return to try some more of their different tours, which all sound amazing. To top it all off, Inés and Juanjo are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. Why are you still reading? Book now!!! 😄
Ines and Juan are two Gran Canaria locals, very passionate and knowledgeable about their island. The tour ticked all the boxes and exceeded my expectations! We hiked, we admired landscapes, we listened to music, had a gourmet picnic lunch, and learned loads about Gran Canaria - all in the company of fun but very professional and experienced guides who did their best to make our tiny group feel like family. If, like me, you only have a short time to see Gran Canaria, this chill, fun, and informative tour is a great option! And if you have more time, it might be a good way to start exploring the island. Either way, I recommend this tour and Sky Rebels.
What a fantastic tour by two local Canarians. Inez and Juan and not forgetting Lupita were entertaining , informative and great fun. They collected us and returned us to our cruise ship promptly. In between from North to South we saw amazing scenery, clouds, plants, biodiversity. The lunch was excellent and tailored to our requirements. We totally recommend this tour.
Inés and Juanjo are a lovely couple passionate about their country. The way they (including Lupita) bring you along the tour is exceptional. They share a lot of Canarian history with us and we learn way more than expected on our tour to Roque Nublo and the other places on the tour. I would definitely book them next time we visit Gran Canaria and recommend their well prepared tours to family and friends. Thanks Inés for the exceptional lunch provided on the tour with the wine and the chosen place to eat. This tour is worth every cent.
We were lucky and we were the only 2 people on the tour therefore it made the experience even better. The whole day was planned out really well and Ines and Juanjo were very knowledgeable and gave us lots of local information. Despite a slight traffic jam at Roque Nublo (which Ines and Juanjo sorted out!) it was smooth running. The lunch that was provided was homemade and tasty with local produce. Lupita was very comfortable and kept us safe. We would highly recommend going on tours with Sky Rebels!
We had a fabulous - magical in fact ;-) -day out with Ines and Juan (and Lupita!) visiting Roque Nublo and many other local sites around the island (highest point, local village, etc). The team are friendly and professional, and so knowledgable about the island. I was very glad that Juan was driving those skinny mountain roads! Incredible views and inspiring beauty. We stopped in the forest for a lunch prepared by Ines - what a feast of local dishes! I highly recommend this tour guide duo, it really is the best way to see the island. Thank you both for a wonderful experience.
I wholeheartedly echo the sentiments expressed in the numerous 5-star reviews for Sky Rebels' tours led by Juanjo and Inés (and Lupita). While these day trips may come at a slightly higher cost compared to others on Gran Canaria, the immersive and captivating experiences they offer are worth every cent. As a solo traveler, I joined both the Roque Nublo and Unesco Sacred Mountains tours, and my satisfaction was beyond measure. The small and intimate group setting, coupled with Inés' delectable homemade tapas-style lunch, added an extra layer of delight to the journey. From breathtaking vistas to the couple's profound knowledge of the island and its indigenous people, the Canarios, which they generously shared throughout the tours, every element was meticulously curated. The pacing was also 'Just Right,' leaving me with a sole 'complaint'—the missed opportunity to partake in more tours. Without a doubt, I will be returning for additional adventures with Sky Rebels in the future.
I experienced great Customer Care from Aldemar who works on the Atlantis Reservations team. Very Polite, Professional and quick in handling my issue. Thank you Aldemar. It's great service like this that has made Atlantis our #1 choice for a hotel in Reno. We have been staying at Atlantis for 20+ years and have never had a bad experience.
We had an amazing time, Juan e Ines were fabulous, full of energy and knowledge, hope we can do it again, another trip, thank you very much guys, for that beautiful experience.
Skyrebels are a lovely team. I had a lot of fun and learnt a lot about Gran Canaria nature, history. Unforgettable and kind hearted experience.
What an amazing tour. These two go above and beyond to support clients. The semi private tour had so much offered to us as we travelled to beautiful, breath taking parts of the island. We were treated like family. They prepared an amazing picnic lunch for us and they even made special food items for my husband with allergies. They are so passionate about the island and it is shown in every perfectly planned detail! Thanks for being the most amazing hosts!
The knowledge and experience of the tour guides is second to none, as is their very clear passion for the island and natural environment. We had an amazing day out and the freshly prepared food was just delicious. The attention to detail and focus on our experience as customers was brilliant. I would definitely recommend any of the Sky rebel tours as I am sure they will all be of the same highest standards. Communication was excellent and we were picked up and dropped off outside our accomodation. What more could you ask for?
My father and I booked the Roque Nublo tour with meal at the Biosphere Reservation . We had been looking for a tour with some hiking and to see the many different sights of the island, this tour ticked that box and so much more. Inés and Juanjo were amazing tour guides that made the tour interesting and fun. And lupita , you are a gift from the gods . You can tell they are so passionate about the island, culture and the history , it definitely shines through in this tour. The fact that it's a max of 6 people on the tour stood out as well, so much better than getting piled on a coach of 20 + people and carted around. Communication flawless in regards to the pick up time and forecasted weather. The home-made lunch was outstanding, one of the best meals I had while in Gran canaria. And finished the day off with a traditional barraquito , it has to be tried! We had an amazing day and if I return to Gran canaria I will 100% be arranging another tour with sky rebels, thank you for an amazing day.
Had a day to spend alone and I’m happy that I found SkyRebels. Booked directly on their website to avoid any extra fees. Pickup was included at my hotel in Maspalomas. We were lucky to have beautiful weather all day, perfect for hiking up the mountains. Juan and Ines were very knowledgeable about Gran Canaria and made the journey up educational and interesting. I appreciated the significance of the rock formations much more and learnt about how the ancient canarians used to live! Would highly recommend this tour if you’re looking for something more private, and to get to famous spots before other tourists arrive. Go with comfortable hiking shoes and an open curious mind, and you’ll have a great time. ;) SkyRebels are a family driven tour business and the guides Juan and Ines have infectious high energy. Thank you for a lovely day!
Ines, Juan and... (Lupita) are a fab team. I did the Roque Nublo tour and it was amazing. Unfortunately on the day the weather at the very top was not ideal to walk, but they had a plan b at hand. Food was amazing, very personable guides and they have a fountain on knowledge of Gran Canaria. If you like visiting food markets, just ask them about it. I shall be returning next year and will be book onto another tour. See you next year!
Ines and Juanio introduced us to their great love, Gran Canaria, an island rich of history and treasures which go far beyond the beach life that most people associate with this fabulous holiday destination. We spent a lovely day and enjoyed the passion and stories they shared with us, not to forget the fabulous home made food which we ate in the middle of Canarian pine trees close to the Pico de las Nieves. Thank you for this great experience 🙏🏻
A very short review. Juan and Ines are Brilliant. Tour was Brilliant. Food was Brilliant. A pair of "nutters" if ever there was. We had two groups of 5 on different days and we all felt the same. Great little hike to Roque Nublo. You should do this trip
A truly wonderful trip, highly recommend. They took us for an adventure with Lupita that we are never going to forget.
This was an amazing, intimate and educational tour! We were enthusiastically greeted by Juanjo and Ines at our hotel and hopped into the comfortable minivan with a charming couple from London. We were then whisked away to begin what was about 8 hours of fun, but never felt that long. Ines gave wonderful background and history on the island of Gran Canaria while Juanjo expertly navigated the hairpin turns up and down the mountainous terrain. Little did we know that "Lupita" would also be joining us to interject some playful humor. We made so many interesting stops with more facts about the island and the wonderful inhabitants. Along the way, we had snacks and even got to speak with some local folks. The lunch that was served was delicious and prepared with such care and covering every detail. We covered a lot of ground in those 8 hours and saw much of what the island has to offer. I truly believe there is no better tour on the island. We walked away from the tour feeling like family and that far exceeded my expectations. Thank you so much Ines and Juanjo (and Lupita!)! We hope to see you again! - <3 Hadley and Jeff
The tour is highly recommended! On the Saturday there was actually no possibility to do the tour, but Juanjo and Inés converted it so that we could come along! Juanjo and Inés are super friendly, tell you everything about the places you visit and make it a special day. You can tell they do this with a lot of passion!
We enjoyed every moment of our trip last Saturday. Every view was stunning and Juan and Inez made it a fun, playfull but interesting day. We would definitely recommend this tour, but wouldn’t with (small) children because of the long day and walk.
By far this is the best and most fulfilling tour I have ever done. We was very lucky to be the only party (max 6 people on any tour, so dont think ever feel crowded) so it felt very personal. At no time do you feel rushed if you need extra few minutes they will let you take them, no pushing you because they have strict schedule and no visiting anywhere that is up selling their product, this tour is about culture, history and nature. The small walk up to Roque Nublo is not strenuousness and they stop several times to talk more about the landscape and history so you feel rested even before you at the top. But even with the history and beauty of the island being shared one of the key things this tour gives you is home cooked food, with some being cooked during the lunch stop in the forest. Sky Rebels delivers the tour in a way you never feel at home and never talking too much like some guides feel they have to do, they are friendly, passionate about the Island and quirky but fun. Yes it is on the expensive side, but you not going to be in a big group so can ask stupid questions that never can do in bigger groups, the bus can visit places coaches cant and the food is almost worth the cost on its own.
Inés and Juanjo are the best tour guides you can wish for. Together with Lupita, they make sure you experience a day full of surprises and beautiful moments. As Inés and Juanjo are locals from Gran Canaria, during the day you learn everything about the islands history and nature. We visited mostly places where there were no tourists at all, but also went to the main highlights of the island. Inés prepared amazing local food and with the four of us we had a lovely lunch. Although we could not do the adventurous hike in the mountains due to weather conditions, the trip led us through a lot of beautiful nature. The day before our tour Inés texted us the weather conditions in the mountains (where it was totally different than down at the beach), which shows that the trip is well prepared. I would recommend everyone who doesn't like the commercial tourist stuff to take a trip with Sky Rebels when on Gran Canaria. If you are reading this review, you are probably wondering “should I book this excursion?” or “is this excursion worth the money?” Let me tell you right now, YOU SHOULD BOOK AN EXCURSION WITH SKY REBELS IMMEDIATELY. We traveled with Ines and Juan in November 2021 and had the most incredible time with them, a day that we will cherish forever. Inés and Juan are the perfect double act, their love for the island and its history is delivered with charisma and joy. Their passion for being the ultimate hosts shines through, from sharing beautiful local food (the homemade lunch was amazing!) to making sure that we were always comfortable and having fun. Even the level of detail they put into journey planning and providing small entertaining moments to enhance the day is unmatched and makes you feel privileged to be there. They are experts at what they do. We did so many things on the trip, all packed into one day but never feeling rushed. The island is beautiful but Inés and Juan’s insight allows you to appreciate the island even more. We can’t forget to mention Lupita, the third member of the team, who is a cheeky character. While the weather didn’t allow us to fully appreciate one of the views of the island, we were not disappointed in any way because the trip was so much more than that. A truly unforgettable experience you should not miss!
Ines and Lupita made sure we had an excellent trip to show off some of the highlights of the island of Gran Canaria. They made sure the trip was enjoyable for all of us and were full of local knowledge. We also got treated to a BBQ with locally sourced products. You can tell that they are passionate about their job and take great pride in it, a rare phenomenon in today's world. I would definitevely recommend Sky Rebels. The fact that they are only catering to small groups gives them the possibility to make personal arrangements to satisfy any individual preferences. The only thing "missing" in their programme is a mandatory stop in sponsored shops where you should buy things, but i consider that a good point rather than a minus.
A day to remember! Away from the tourist spots we felt we had reached the true heart of the island. A personalised experience whatever your interest, be it history, geography, ecology, or lives of the inhabitants, Ines and Juan present a mine of information . From the dramatic rocky heights and narrow valleys of the interior to the wild windswept east coast and the dramatic sand dunes of the south west, this is a majestic island. With good food and lots of humour this was a fun and friendly day. Until the next time. . .
The tour is very personal, informative and even fun. Inés, Juanjo (and Lupita! :) are simply great. You get very close to the island and its history, even when eating (delicious!). We laughed and learned a lot and had a really nice day. Thank you very much!
If you are looking for a more personal and higher quality experience than the large bus commercial tours, the team at Sky Rebels is it. They were fun, friendly and knew the local history of Gran Canaria. Throughout my day trip with them, they answered any question I had and clearly enjoyed showing me their island and culture. The picnic lunch used all local ingredients and was very tasty. They paced the hike up to Roque Nublo very well, with each stop being a perfect chance to point out more history, geology or just an awesome view. Really enjoyable day.
Thanks to Juanjo and Inés we had a fantastic day and saw so much of the island. It was a really hot day, but Lupita kept us cool most of the time. :) They adjusted the program to the heat, the fact that we had a 5-year old with us and my boyfriend suffers from car sickness easily. And of course the new COVID situation. We had such a great day, tailor made especially for us! With a lovely picknick in the forrest, visits to the highest mountains, the cool city of Agüimes and the Maspalomas dunes & so much more. With nice extras that also kept the 5 year old entertained. And so much info on the fascinating history of Gran Canaria. There’s so much more to Gran Canaria than just beaches Very much recommended! And we’ll be back for sure. Marloes, Michiel & Tim
This was a brilliant day out with two outstanding guides. Great lunch in forest and great set of visits. Worth going for excellent lunch and wine.
We are so glad that we discovered Sky Rebels. Inez and Juan did a fantastic job of taking us on a magical tour of this beautiful island. We saw things we would never have discovered on our own as we travelled to the highest points of the island and saw amazing views and contrasting landscapes. We learned a lot about the history and geology of the island in a variety of fun ways. We were treated to an amazing “picnic “ with gorgeous food served by this lovely couple. We strongly recommend this trip if you want to discover the real Gran Canaria.
Highlight of my holiday in Gran Canaria was this trip with Sky Rebels. Our hosts were excellent in all aspects. Driving, knowledge, hospitality, safety and humour. Was an honour to be able to visit the Sacred Mountains of Gran Canaria and found their history fasinating.
Fantastic trip, far more interesting, informative and fun than any tour we have ever been on before. Excellent range of activities eg walk to roque Nublo, picnic in woods, viewpoints, and well paced. Even our 17 year old son (hard to please) had a great day. Thanks to Ines and Juanco for a fabulous day out.
An amazingly informative and enjoyable day. Juanjo and Ines really make the trip special and go to a lot of trouble to keep the party fully engaged. Small group made the day very personal and enjoyable. Picnic in the forrest was a feast. Small touches make it even more special. Thoroughly enjoyable and a great way to see the main sights of the island.
I highly recommend this tour, a lovely day making sense of Gran Canaria. A bit of history, a bit of Geography along with marvellous views, delicious food and great company. A really good way to start your GC holiday.
A brilliant way to see some of the island’s highlights and traditional areas, with an enthusiastic and knowledgeable couple. The ‘picnic’ is more of a feast! Thoroughly recommended.
A very nice and informative trip to see and learn about the island. The trip will show you the best of the island.
We thoroughly enjoyed the day. Juanjo and Ines were professional, knowledgeable, and totally prepared for the day to maximize showing us around the essence of the island and make us to feel and see how canarians have lived on the island. This trip helped us getting around the island next couple of days with full surprises wherever we visited. (The island is a full of surprises!) We highly recommend the tour with Juanjo and Ines. it was excellent!
Fantastic day out seeing so much. Great hosts an unforgettable day. Visited places that were amazing and given so much information about Gran Canaria. Nothing to fault at all.
We did the full day island tour and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were joined by another lovely couple, and were a little apprehensive (and bleary eyed!) at the start but Ines and Juan soon thawed us out and made the trip so much fun for both us and the children. The hike was quite tiring but so worth the views from the top, and the picnic forest lunch was just fabulous, topped off by goodies from the gods! We saw lots, learnt lots, and our guides were very good at knowing the best times to get to places and the best view points. Yes we could have done the stops ourselves in our hire car, but we'd have been very tired and stressed from the narrow windy roads and tight parking areas, plus a lot less knowledgeable. And we'd never have known about the wonderful forest picnic area or been able to enjoy a first class steak in the middle of nature! Well worth it. Muchos gracias mi nino / nina!
If you want to learn about the island and its history in a very fun and scenic way, you must take this tour. Juan and Inez are just fantastic people that want you to experience what Gran Canaria is all about. From the mountains to the beach, you’ll have an adventure that you will remember for years to come. Along with special stops on your way, you will have a great lunch that is 100% home cooked with items indigenous to the island. Also don’t forget to ask for tips on restaurants, sites and adventures for the rest of your stay from them as you tour personally around the countryside. The recommendations are accurate on good spots and bad. Our whole vacation was made better by taking this tour. Anyone traveling here MUST take this trip.
Had a great day experiencing the island and it’s history. Our tour was very unique and including a home made lunch which was unexpected and very tasty. The day went so fast and was very informative
This trip is amazing, you get to see the island in a personal way, the history behind the island, the amazing views and it was all bought to life by Ines and Juan, a lovely lively fun couple that love their lives. There’s was lots of little surprises throughout the trip and the homemade, local food for the picnic/BBQ was fantastic. I really recommend this trip to anyone that has not seen the island and how different the agricultural is in different areas of the island. Amazing and thank you for a great memory x
