Sadly the heavens opened shortly after our arrival. We were on our way to La Laguna but decided to stop off here for a coffee. We enjoyed the museum and information about pyramids around the world and the story of Thor Heyerdahl ( of the Kon Tiki expedition) who began the Pyramids of Guimar restoration project and investigation of pyramids across the world. We found this very interesting and would have liked more time to walk in the beautiful gardens but the rain was too heavy as we had no rain jackets.

We had a fantastic guided tour at the Pirámides de Güímar. Our guide, Michael, was excellent, very knowledgeable and incredibly engaging in the way he explained the history of the pyramids and the surrounding cultural context. He made the tour both informative and enjoyable, always happy to answer our questions. They have also an interesting botanical garden. A wonderful experience overall, and definitely a sustainable activity to enjoy while exploring Tenerife. Highly recommended!
If you like history Then This is truly for you. I guess it could be a bit boring if not but there is audioguide so you dont have to read. I liked it a lot and of course there is the pyramides itself.
Good disabled access, pleasant staff. Interesting historically. Plenty of room to get around and not too busy.
We rented a car for our trip and headed out to see some pyramids! We took our 3 your old and he was all hot and bothered half way round so we didn’t see a lot of it but what we did see was fab! There’s loads of history there and the actual structures themselves are amazing to see! I’ve never seen any other pyramids before so it was a great experience. We had a wonder around the poison garden and that was quite interesting. There was a hydrangea there which was peculiar to see. There’s little museum bits to walk through and they came in handy with the heat and the sun as a good place to get out of it for a little bit. Pretty cute cafe next door. Pretty cheap and looked like they did some lovely food however we just stopped for drinks. Will definitely come back when our little one is older.
We were both looking forward to seeing the Piramides, unfortunately our experience didn't match our expectation. Lots of supposition and what could have been..... It's a lovely garden and some of the plants are really interesting. (Never seen cochineal mites before) Didn't appreciate that side of it. Honestly though, save yourself the entrance money and look though the fence. You can't get up close to the pyramids anyway. Lots of hens, cockerels and chicks in the area too.
This is a pleasant and informative museum. Plenty of information in Spanish, English and German and I learned a lot about the explorer Thor Heyerdahl. If you are very interested in plants, it may be worth paying the extra for the plants and poisons garden, but the basic ticket was fine. If you have teenagers, ask for student tickets (no identification needed) - child discount up to 12 only. There's a small gift shop and café for drinks & snacks. A pleasant 90 minutes.
Very interesting, beautiful park with well-prepared exhibiotions. Pyramides are really impressive and you may feel like you are in the South America. The museum and the exhibition about Heyerdahl are impressive. I liked the stories of his travels and the models of the ships. Also, the quiz for children is a cool thing which gave us a lot of fun (questions are not obvious and it is worth to find the answers). Pyramides of Guimar park is in my opinion one of the most interesting places on Tenerife (especially if you like history).
Absolutely excellent, throughly enjoyed 5 hours of history, adventure and intrigue. Recomend the audio guide, very well laid out and linked together the concept nicely. I was excited to see Thor Heyerdall RA 2 boat large size replica and details of his voyages ( I last read when I was a little child). Piramides were fascinating. My wife thinks it is one of the best things to do on Tenerife and so do I.
We travelled by public transport from Puerta de la Cruz to Guimar, but it was a journey that was well worth it. Start with the auditorium (or the coffee shop as we did) which gives an overview of the theories and expeditions of Thor Hayerdahl (of Kontiki fame). Models of the reed boats give an idea of the problems of crossing the oceans. Outside there is the poison garden, including the tree that produces the poison used by the Russians in London to kill with the poisoned tip of an umbrella. The Tropicarium has some lovely plants including the fascinating Darwin orchid. The walk around the pyramid complex takes you past the recently discovered cave. Certainly a very full day; take a picnic as there are plentyof places to sit down to eat. At €18 adult price for everything, it is not particularly cheap, but does include the audio-guide. There are cheaper options if your time is limited.
We visited on 30th Jan and this proved to be much more engaging than we anticipated. The exhibits and information provided were extremely good, the entire facility was immaculate and well presented. The Heyerdahl exhibits (and theories) were particularly good. This turned out to be one of the best visitor experiences in Tenerife. Can easily spend half a day in these surroundings. Good value for money.
We spent a few hours at the site last Saturday and had a great time. There's lots of information available about the plants and history of Tenerife, as well as the comparisons with other pyramid sites around the world. The Thor Heyendal information is fascinating (what a great man!) and the poison garden was informative too. We didn't spent much time in the Polynesian exhibit (too hot) but the information available seemed like it was an interesting read. Good value for money and the facilities are good too. We went too late for the cafe, but there seemed to be a good selection of food on offer.
Interesting mix of an anthropology museum and botanic gardens Poison garden was particularly informative.
We were told it would take a couple of hours to go round. How wrong we were. We spent nearly all day here, mind you, I do read everything. It's a brilliant day out, so informative and well laid out, especially for those with walking difficulties. The Polynesian exhibition was my favourite together with the Poison Garden. The price of our premium ticket was €18 each and included an audio guide, well worth it. The cafe is clean nice food and extremely well priced. I have no hesitation in recommending this place.
I am so happy I made the trip from the north of the island to visit the pyramides. It was so interesting to learn the history, they offer so much information and I left feeling it was worth my money and time. It exceeded my expectations.
Very nice visit to the Pyramids of Güímar and the ethnographic site. The tour is very interesting, well presented, and allows you to discover the history of the place from different angles. We also really appreciated the welcome. Being French, we were lucky to be welcomed by a person who spoke French, which was very pleasant. One suggestion for improvement, however: it would be useful to better distinguish guided tours from self-guided tours, for example by offering fixed times for guided tours. During our self-guided tour, upon arriving in the auditorium, we heard a person from the site giving explanations in French to a family. Thinking that it was a presentation offered to all visitors present, we listened to the explanations. We then learned that it was actually a private guided tour, included in that family's package. The guide pointed this out to us later at the shop, which made us a little uncomfortable, because it was simply a misunderstanding. Better identification of guided tours (times, starting point, or distinctive sign) would help avoid this type of situation, both for visitors and for guides. Despite this small mishap, we highly recommend visiting this fascinating site.
Excellent family experience! There is a little game to look for birds that has had a lot of fun for children. Very interesting and it allows to question the story ☺️!
The +: - easy access and free parking - Clean toilet - friendly staff - whole park pleasant - interesting museum part - pleasant walk in the park - several species of well indicated plants - possibility of picnic - magnificent view We can take the time. - well suited for children The - : - panels only in Spanish, German and English (nothing in French) for the audio-guide part I don't know, we didn't take it - a little expensive if you want the premium experience -the park is actually more interesting than the pyramids. But the whole thing is nice. Be careful, to appreciate it you have to go there in good weather (as everything in Tenerife). In short, we enjoyed the visit and had a great time.
The pyramids themselves are not of particular interest, especially since despite their still mysterious origin they seem to be of relatively recent construction. They are an opportunity to take a rather pleasant walk in a quiet environment. The exhibition on Thor Heyerdahl’s adventures is interesting, but I couldn’t find a common thread during the museum visit. The price, 12.50 per person and 8 € for the audio guide is high for visiting such a site.
Well, unusually expensive for Tenerife and somehow I feel like you put together a lot of things so you can justify the price. You don't have to do
The best of Güímar its people, the worst where we ate Restaurant El Perenquen Gloton. The worst of my life, the worst of the visit. All of us who went, called it a disgusting restaurant, full of flies, with very poor service, and very expensive.
Very nice visit, we learn a lot about the island, 2 hours tour, pyramids and vegetation with a paid audio guide but it is worth it Located in the east of the island pleasant temperatures
The story about the pyramids is interesting (did the Guanche inhabitants have contact with the peoples of America before the discovery by Christopher Columbus?). Indeed, some similarities are troubling, such as that related to alignment with the sun. The rest of the park has a garden (with little shade), part of which is dedicated to toxic plants.
Interesting place in combination with the story of Thor Heyerdahl. The presumption that the pyramids present here and the temples of the Maya and other pre-Columbian cultures on the other side of the Atlantic have a similar cultural background is made plausible by the architectural style of sacred sites, objects and reed boats. Thor himself sailed several times from the Canary Islands to the Americas in such boats, demonstrating that it could be done.A replica is present in the museum. Don’t forget to watch the movie either.
Sehr interessante Anlage. Wunderschöner Garten. Hätte gehofft die Pyramide auch berühren zu dürfen aber es ist weiträumig abgesperrt. Mit Reservierung hat alles geklappt!
The place is taken care of. It is quite interesting and very illustrative. Not only are you going to see pyramids, which are already interesting, but you are going to know other aspects of antiquity regarding the islands.
Well maintained 'archaeological' site, with mysterious pyramids but far too intact ... Under an endless flood and a freezing wind, unimpressed, we fled the place
The biggest scam in Tenerife, a park in which there are two types of tickets the basic at 12,50 € and the "premium" at 18, The pyramids aren't exceptional, I wouldn't come back.
We really liked it! We had been out for a good 3 hours. The park is very clean and lovingly designed, we can warmly recommend it
My companion had already visited this park before Corona, and warned me. So I went to this archaeological park without too much expectation. We booked the cheapest ticket to avoid throwing unnecessary money down the operator's throat. My conclusion: Although it has long been scientifically refuted that the excavations are “pyramids” from the time of the Guanches, this fairy tale is retained here. In one room there are even photos of pyramids from Egypt, Mexico and Latin America. The intention here is to give the impression that the excavated walls also come from pyramids. In fact, such structures can be found almost everywhere on the island. It is a terrace extension for agriculture. Pros: The 1:1 replica of the Ra 2, and the exhibition about Thor Hyerdal. Cons: The alleged “exhibition” about plastic in the oceans turned out to be a collection of simple billboard turns. That's where my fourth graders at school design better lectures on the subject. Conclusion: Too expensive for what's shown. Visitors are deliberately left in the dark that they are NOT remains of pyramids over a thousand years old.
A beautiful discovery walk offering beautiful views. Accessible to all children and adults.Site where history is pleasantly discovered. What to do
A terrain created with love and professionalism. Lots of information in a way that guarantees a fun experience for all ages. Far beyond our expectations, we spent some very nice hours here - and will definitely come back again. Highly recommended!
Nice attraction. I confirm, it's expensive for what it is. 12.50 euros or 18 euros for the set. It's not the attraction of the century. More of a curiosity. It's not the first thing to do on the island. There are many other things to do
Only the film about the various pyramids around the world was excellent, the rest is forgettable. But the film alone made up for it
Positive points: well maintained. Friendly pyramids. Cute chickens. Negative points: way too expensive and not very interesting. Exhibitions having neither tail nor head, with no concrete link between them. Exhibition bordering on the ridiculous "the sea of plastic" made of ugly plastic panels. The "sensory trail", a path where we are supposed to take off our shoes to walk on 50cm square of straw... The “poisonous garden” where we chose not to pay the already excessive addition to the basic ticket to access it. Well-maintained setting but with basic plants that you can see everywhere on the island.
We were disappointed, tourist trap, the little museum is nice, the garden is abandoned perhaps due to the drought and the animals that colonize them
I accidentally bought the single ticket and couldn't enter the poisonous garden, but the truth is that what I saw was still great, well maintained and with quite beautiful mountain landscapes.
After reading the comments on this website about the Pyramids of Güímar left for this tourist attraction with mixed feelings. For those staying on the island side of Tenerife Sur Arona Airport, it is an hour's drive via the TF 1 to get there. In the end, our visit was not too bad. I personally think the criticism about this tourist attraction is unjustified. I will not comment on whether the pyramids are real or are a copy of the terraces that can also be seen on the mountains. We opted for the cheapest ticket and, in addition to the pyramids, also saw the history of how everything started in an exhibition. The explorers who explored, the various types of pyramids that exist and the places where they can be found and a film screening can also be attended four times a day. We also had access to the botanical garden and the exhibition on plastic problems in the world such as illegal waste on land and in the sea. We spent a good 3 hours on site and paid 12.50 euros per person. We even received a Dutch-language welcome brochure, which was certainly a plus. It was rather calm on the site itself. Not many visitors present. Going to the toilet is free, but you may meet a Salamander or a Gecko in the toilet :-). I can recommend this tourist attraction to anyone visiting Tenerife. Especially considering the fair price, because many sights are a lot more expensive on Tenerife. At the entrance, which is also the exit, there is also a cafeteria where you can drink and eat something. There is also a museum shop at the exit with souvenirs and gifts, all of which are, in my opinion, well priced... Free parking is provided in front of the museum. But there is also plenty of free parking on the one-way street that runs towards the museum.
Un endroit très original, documenté, des espaces intérieurs explicatifs et extérieurs très joliment arborés, indispensables car il a fait très chaud.
Mix of archaeological sites, museums and botanical gardens. 25 € for two without the whole visit. €8 for audio guide in addition if not nothing in French the descriptive signs are in Spanish, English and German. French is simply forgotten. The pyramids are more Aztec style on the terrace. A beautiful exhibition on Thor heyerdahl and its various crossings including the most famous Kon-tiki.
I've been generally disappointed. Some things have been interesting but I think the ticket price is very expensive so you have to see and how bad it is. A shame.
The site is very quaint and has a well maintained botanical garden. The pyramids, in my opinion, should be highlighted more at least by cutting the grass around them. Taking a panoramic view from the terrace you can see a lot of brush. To see
Very expensive for the service: the so-called pyramids look more like a terraced growing wall than pyramids, and we found the gardens rather commonplace. Nothing extraordinary. In addition you have to pay a supplement to access the entire site. No or few explanatory signs on site. Anyway, very disappointed!
Between €12.5 the basic visit, which gives access to little, and €18 the full visit, we clearly feel a mercantile approach. Are the pyramids really there? The question remains to this day. I'll remember the beauty of the garden, but it's expensive! So I regret my visit, and the lack of information given to Welcoming.
Too bad it's so expensive. We got the student fare for the cheapest ticket choice and even like that it was €9.90 per visit (vs €12.90 for the normal fare for the same ticket choice) Not too well maintained, hens walk on the paths and manure is found there. May be of interest to French as all explanations are in English/Spanish/German. Why not put these same explanations in French on the guide card given at the entrance? In short, go your way and keep your money.
It is definitely a must-see for those staying in Tenerife. Those who write disappointing experience, have not understood anything about this archaeological site. They probably did not think it appropriate to spend 2 euros more to use the audio guide that explains step by step the discoveries made on this site. Surely it is worth setting aside just over two hours to learn historical data that normally no one knows. Very important for a general culture.
Perfectly okay but a little too small for the price tag of 12.5 EUR/person, lucky anyway that children under 6 years go free. Nothing spectacular in any way but a bit fun to see the pyramids anyway, even if the park itself felt quite dull and slightly worn in some places. Not worth the price, I think, maybe if it had cost half as much.
If you follow the route planner you can hardly believe that you are almost at the Pyramides. In a small town are the remains of several Pyramids, my expectations were high, because how often do you see something like this! We had booked the simple tickets but upgraded there on the spot for the entire expo, including the gardens and the ethnographic exhibition. For me, these extras detracted from the Pyramids and only made it messier for me. The poisonous plant garden was not spectacular we found and the exhibition mediocre.
Wonderful. I'm from Guimar and we have a wonderful place. We hadn’t been there for a long time and it’s changed but very nice and now it’s better that there’s not the German guide (well it wasn’t even a guide legally), because we didn’t like its high-handedness.
A series of incredibly suggestive monuments (and unfortunately little known) presented by signs and audio guides perfectly understandable even to a non-specialized public. Also interesting are the adjoining Chacona museum and the pavilion dedicated to Easter Island. The online booking is clear and easy and the staff is really very kind. You can get there from Santa Cruz with the guagua 120 that takes you to the intercambiador of Guìmar, then, if you do not want to face a path on foot and uphill, you can use one of the taxis that wait a few meters away: with 3 euros and a little more on the way and the same on the way back they take you comfortably.
