For some reason holiday sites seem desperate to promote Puerto de la Cruz with questionable positive reviews. Or, perhaps these reviews are from people over the age of 60, since you'll struggle to find anyone below that age. Most hotels host Bingo or ballroom dancing as their 'only' entertainment. I spent a week there last year. It was awful. There are literally no pubs/bars or night life at all, since everywhere closes early. The only places to go for drinks are restaurants, and they close before 11pm, including weekends. There are 'no beaches', only rocks and black sand.

Itinerary
In your free time in Puerto de la Cruz, you must visit Plaza del Charco. This square has always been one of the municipality's most popular spots. It is called the "Puddle Square" because of the large puddle of seawater that used to form in the middle of it. Although it has been revamped in recent years, it still has a fountain with a taro tree, Indian laurels and some impressive palm trees.

If you wish to spend your free time in the best swimming pool, visit "Lago Martianez".The Costa Martiánez municipal complex is the pride of Puerto de la Cruz and one of the most acclaimed examples of coastal transformation. Lovely way to see the north side of the island. It would have taken too long by using the local bus. This way it was easy way and would recommend it.
The coach was late on both pickup and return. Seats are quite uncomfortable and other passengers reclined their seats making it even more uncomfortable. The person checking passengers onto coach left the tour on the outward journey and the driver was unable to communicate clearly when we were dropped off meaning another passenger had to check where our pick up point was with the tour operator. On the return journey we were taken to various resorts for drop offs, this didn't happen when we were picked up so a different route was followed meaning we were on the coach for longer than needed. When we asked to leave the coach at a different drop off point which was actually closer to our apartment than where we were picked up the driver couldn't understand us and came over quite rude. We did worry what would happen in an emergency as the driver couldn't understand us.
Nice Town. Nicer than South of Island. Pity about weather. We had food in a nice restaurant.. Driver was pleasant.
This is a bus transfer from southern resorts to a really beautiful norther resort Puerto de la Cruz. This is exactly what we wanted and what we got. Getting there from Golf del Sur by public transport is a hassle that takes nearly 3 hours (if you're lucky). But with this option the bus takes you straight from your hotel to Jardin Beach in less than 2 hours (depending where you start from). We had approximately 6 hours to look around PDLC on our own. We walked on the beach, went up the hill to see the botanical gardens and enjoy great views to the sea. It really is worth the trip, just keep in mind you are on your own.
Great value for money. A little disorganised coming home. But thoroughly enjoyed the day out . Would recommend
a beautiful place, very nice local people, a wonderful old town, the northern part of the island is different from the southern part, it is calmer, quieter, but also beautiful.
Be prepared - there are no toilets on the buses used for this trip - and no scheduled loo stops. It will take around two hours at least - or more depending on the drops offs schedule - from the Los Cristianos area. The bus is pretty poor with very poor air conditioning too. I therefore do not recommend this tour.

Thoroughly enjoyed this tour, following others comments about it being a long time in the city without a map, i had plotted out two possibilities for my day and had a map at the ready.
Bus driver was great and he clearly explained pick up point.
I spent my time at Lago Martianez, it was beautiful

Too much time in the city without a map and a tour guide. The shopping area was terrific. In my opinion this should be called a shopping trip and not given so much time between drop off and pick up.

The transfer itself went well and we saw a lot in Puerto de la Cruz. We had to wait in the parking lot at our hotel at 7.50am, but the bus seemed to have waited in another place. We missed the bus, but fortunately we were able to take the bus at another pick-up point. They said they tried to call us, but we didn't have a missed phone call Furthermore, it was nice in Puerto de la Cruz
Superb walk along the coast with a beautiful sun , view on the coast In addition very pleasant city walk I highly recommend this beautiful place
Puerto de La Cruz is a small town on a human scale where you can find everything at your fingertips, such as restaurants where you can eat fresh fish at affordable prices and bars where you can also have fun with live music. I stayed at the Monopol hotel located right in centro.Hotel clean, nice to see with its green entrance and really quiet. I highly recommend it. Thanks to the stock travel that allowed us, offering us the hotel + plane package, to spend a lovely week around Puerto or sunbathing in the Martianez complex (walking), or visiting the most beautiful beaches of tenerife (by car) such as Las Americas, Los Cristianos, playa Las Vista, Los Teresitas or enjoying the view of the dolphins by catamaran.
The best, its people and typical cuisine and author, the worst, the state of abandonment of the city, its squares and especially its beaches, like not making better use of places like Martianez beach for not resolving ideological questions
Pas de visite juste un transfert 3h30 de bus à partir de los gigantes Déposer à loro Park Et nous disant prenez un taxi Le retour a été fait via la ligne de bus public , 1h30 de route pour 8 euros …..
Hi! Incredible walk and views of the beach and landscape! Always incredible to enjoy Puerto De la Cruz. I will always repeat!
Puerto de la Cruz, to the north, black sand beach, without much interest, better the artificial beaches of Santa Cruz, or the beaches of Los Cristianos, Americas, Adege...
Krásne mesto, oplatí sa vidieť určite... Daju sa tam spraviť úžasné fotky ...atmosféra super, hudba, obchody, reštaurácie,pláže...
Is a great contrast to the southern part of the island. Here is lush and green. The city itself is very cozy, an old fishing village where streets and houses have a long history. There are tourists but not as crowded as the southern part of the island and above all, there are not so many drunk, noisy and brovting Englishmen. In short, peaceful and cozy with many small oases. Loro Park, there is a lot to see, but it is and becomes animal in captivity, nice but not my cup of tea, dolphins have the best in nature.
Everything we visited, what we ate, its landscapes we loved and above all, its inhabitants are the best of the best 👌 ❤❤
No need for transfers, rent a car, the only catch park, the port where people swim is very atypical, it's a local beach but not really, the city is beautiful, living in Spanish hours is very nice, the Welcoming of the locals is great.
Very nice place to visit and stroll, very nice gardens and squares, many restaurants and pubs, interesting seawater pools, Playa Jardin to recommend
Terrible and dire experience with them. I booked the Bus Service to Puerto de la Cruz and I happened to be dropped off in the Loro Park car park, about 30 minutes walk from the city center. We couldn’t go because I had just had surgery on my knee and we were never, I repeat, told that we wouldn’t be left in the city but in Loro Park. In the end, we chose to enter Loro Park because we didn't know what to do. NEFARIOUS experience. I will never repeat with you and will never recommend your services.
We've been 3 months. Carnivals are wonderful. The people are lovely and very sociable. The negative is the abandonment this city is in. Somewhere I thought I was walking through Old Havana: shaky buildings, sidewalks that haven’t been renovated for years. Usually an old city. The beach of Martiànez dirty and totally left to God.
