From arrival to the end of the tour we were well taken care of by the lovely Ann. Her explanations and anecdotes were fantastic. I was filled with wonder and amazement throughout the entire tour.

Part of a 4 stop tour. Spent around 45 minutes at this stop. A nice view over the site and walk down the area. Well explained and interesting factual inputs around how they harvest the salt using this natural process. Small shop area and toilet. Worth a visit, interesting and great views as well.
We travelled by bus to La Salinas from Playa Blanca - took 10-15 mins at most answer then a short walk to the entrance and down the hill. We had a fabulous tour in the sweltering heat, our guide was very informative and did the tour in English & Spanish. We has a tasting session afterwards in a lovely cool room. There was a shop to buy different salts and products made with the salt. We stopped and had a cold drink at the little bar on site and then went to get the bus back, Definitely worth having the local bus app on your phone. It was a great morning out. It looks like they are building a new visitor centre so we’d definitely go back again.
Great Experience. The guide Anne was very good at explaining everything about the salt planes over the different generations over the years who worked there. Also some nice light refreshments after the walk
V interesting and good value for money. Excellent guide Ann did the tour in English and Spanish, she really likes salt! And knows everything about it. Learnt a lot about the industry and the history of the site. Cheese, wine and salt (on tomato) at the end. V enjoyable. No shade on the tour, hat recommended. Approx 2 hours inc the air down bit at the end.
Such a wonderful experience for everyone ! The tour guide was great and we all loved it. We got to learn about salt production which is not something I ever thought I would learn about. We even got to taste some salt and cheese at the end of the visit which was a nice touch. I absolutely would recommend this tour if you’re ever in Lanzarote.
We visited July 2026. We were a family of four, with two children. The tour was great, the guide Alberto was fantastic. A small tasting at the end sampling the salt was nice. We even saw some flamingos in the lagoon.
What a great visit! I was so glad I’d managed to persuade my husband to do this visit, as it was excellent. It was most interesting and varied. Our guide was Santiago who was brilliant. I thoroughly recommend this visit if you are in that part of Lanzarote.
Lovely tour. Anna was great at explaining how the salt is extracted, the history and future plans. It was good to hear they are restoring the original windmills and becoming more eco-friendly.
We drove past the salt farm a few times and after a bit of research decided to pay a visit. The two hours we spent there were exceptionally well rewarded with a walking tour of the salt farm and a fact-filled talk on how salt is made by natural evaporation. Our guide Anna was very knowledgeable, but didn’t just blast facts at us - she wove a fascinating narrative about the history of the farm, the challenges it has faced and its plans for the future. I’d definitely put this on your itinerary of you are visiting the area.
Amazing place I really enjoyed it, very good to go with the family everyone enjoyed, the guide was very helpful and nice to speak to. Took a lot of pictures and a great place to visit in Lanzarote. And the food tasting was nice. And very interesting for teenagers. 👍👍👍
Had such a great day. We were especially lucky with our guide, Ann, who was just a total joy, and also went out of her way to make sure we got a taxi back in the evening. We also enjoyed a glass of wine overlooking the flats which was lovely. I would recommend if you are looking for a tour that is short but full of interesting facts. Thanks to Ann for making it extra special 😊😊
This was probably my favourite thing I did while in Lanzarote! My day spent at the Salinas de Janubio was very worth the bus trip from Playa Blanca! (10 mins on the number 60 bus) Our guide Yurena was so friendly and informative. I learned so much about this part of Canarian culture as well as some very interesting information about the general history of the island. The salt fields themselves are truly beautiful to see. There is also some lovely bird life around the lagoon. After the tour we were brought to the salt packaging area in the visitor center too so we really got to see the entire process from start to finish. There we enjoyed a salt tasting with some complementary local wine and goats cheese. They also gifted us some beautifully packaged salt to take home! In close proximity there is a black sand beach and an excellent restaurant which are nice to visit in addition. Would definitely recommend!! :)

Our guide Vicky has explained us the full salt cultivation process with a lot of passion, humour and knowledge. The two hour tour was very much appreciated by the whole group.
Booked online for a tour. You walk around the flats for an hour or more. Vicky our guide spoke good English and was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the history of the place and the way the salt is still produced today by a small team. Did you know the salt made here is free of micro plastics. After the tour is a tasting. There is a small shop to make purchases. A new building is under construction for the reception, shop, cafe and production. A fascinating visit.
We found staff very welcoming. Hubby and I had a guided tour provided by the lovely Martin who was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. It lasted around an hour and a half. Some bird life could be spotted in the Lagoon, we noted black necked grebes, black winged stilts and ruddy shelducks. Rare sightings of flamingos have also been spotted there. At the end of our tour, Martin provided tapas for us so we could sample the different salts on offer. Included was wine tasting also. Worth a visit when you are in Lanzarote and you should book a tour in advance.
We decided to take the tour completely by chance while passing by the saltworks, and luckily we did. Two very educational and interesting hours, with a tasting of several types of salt served with local cheese and a glass of white wine from the island. Vicky made a great effort to explain everything to us in her passionate way—very knowledgeable and engaging. I truly recommend this tour if you come to Lanzarote; you definitely won’t regret it. I wish all the workers at the saltworks many more happy years together, and a big thank-you for your kindness❤️
After finding this on the map provided by our car hire company we booked directly online for a 90 minute guided tour. Our guide, Aythamy, was very informative & engaging & we learned all about the process of extracting salt from the natural lagoon water. This is the last remaining salt producer left on the island. We walked with her (in a group of 5) around the salt flats for about an hour, got some great photos & finished with a tasting session. We tried 3 of the salts plus local cheese & wine, all excellent. A thoroughly enjoyable visit to a hidden gem & a unique Lanzarote experience
The tour was listed as being in English but the guide spoke Spanish with some key words mentioned in English. Complete waste of money. I believe with a better guide that actually spoke the language advertised, the tour would be okay
We visited las Salinas de Janubio as a group of 4 last week and had a fantastic time. It wasn't somewhere that had come up during our research prior to the trip which is a real shame, it should be on everyone's list. Our guide (I wish I could remember her name) was great and clearly enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the site. Fantastic value, especially compared with Timanfaya which we did on the same day. We spent 90 minutes exploring the salt flats and another 30 tasting 3 salts, 2 wines and a cheese. A really interesting trip which I'd highly recommend.
After many visits to Lanzarote we finally got around to visiting the salt pans. OMG, what an amazing place, better than imagined by a long way. Brilliant guided tour, our guide slipped seamlessly between Spanish, English and French, and some Italian as needed. After a couple of hours walking around the pans and learning about the history and modern day salt production, we then had a wonderful salt tasting, eye opener, finished off with a small gifted box of salt. It's a must do experience.
This is a very in depth tour. While flat, be prepared to walk a lot at a slow pace. It was very windy and sunny….come prepared with water, spf, and a hat! The tour at times felt a little long but our tour guide did the tour in THREE different languages and was passionate. The best part was the salt tasting at the end. It was very educational and ain interesting way to see something different and off the beaten path.
During our trips to Lanzarote, we've always admired the salt flats from above, driving past. This time we decided to stop and visit them. Perfect choice! Our guide, Vicky, was excellent in explaining the history and how this Lanzarote treasure works. Obtaining salt from seawater seems like a simple task. Wrong. It's manual labor, intense, tiring, and requires patience. A labor of love and to be respected. The tastings and various purchase options in the shop are also excellent. In addition to the classic visits to Lanzarote, don't miss this gem.
What a wonderful tour. We were introduced to Martin, our tour guide. We had an amazing informative time with Martin who is simply the best tour guide imaginable. His passion and knowledge shone like a beacon. He showed us the logical steps in salt production and left no stone unturned. Any questions we had were immediately answered. I shall never look at salt in the same light again. Thank you Martin, you are a true gentleman! Highly recommended!
Our visit to the Salinas de Janubio was unforgettable thanks to Martín, our wonderful guide. His passion and depth of knowledge brought the salt flats to life, from history to sustainability. Tasting the delicate flor de sal was a highlight. Martín made the whole experience enriching, authentic, and full of heart.
We have seen the salinas from the road during both our trips to Playa Blanca and wondered about visiting. After reading the reviews, we decided to give it a try. What a morning - the best thing we’ve ever done on Lanzarote. We showed up without booking but Martin was happy to add us to the tour, and he was so knowledgeable it was infectious. I’ve heard people being called “passionate” about something before, but Martin is genuinely passionate about the salinas and wants everyone to know about them. He was full of information, patiently switching between Spanish and English to cater for both groups in the tour. He was so patient, answering our questions, and really made it an interesting and fascinating morning. We ended with the tasting of salts, bought some in the shop, and would recommend this to anyone who wants to learn about something a little different. Good idea to wear trainers or other sensible footwear as the tour includes some walking over uneven ground, and probably some sun cream/hat, but this tour is certainly worth it. Thank you so much Martin, I’ll never look at a salt pot in the same way again after you have taught us how much care and hard work is involved!
I really enjoyed this tour. My guide was enthusiastic and informative. I learned a lot about the history and methods of traditional salt production and how the various grades of product are used. The tasting again was great with local cheese, wine and various salt products on sliced tomatoes. Highly recommended.
Interesting and informative tour on how salt is made, very informative and interactive. We Learnt about the process and the history as well as the lovely visual view Martin was great and would 100% recommend taking this tour worth every penny.
Salinas Janubio When we decided to visit the Salinas Janubio, we were not sure what to expect. I have always loved the view of the Salinas as we passed it on the road to and from Playa Blanca and was really intrigued about the process to extract salt from the sea. We looked on their website, to see the timings of the tours and saw they did them four times a day. We arrived at the Salinas early, as we were not quite sure where we were going. We found it very easily, following the signs from the road. They have a good sized car park so there were plenty of spaces. I think that you would be able to walk from the La Hoya bus stop, if you went by the 60 bus. It would only be a 10 to 15 minute walk. There was a really nice lady behind the counter, at the shop, who sold us two tickets for the tour. She said we could wait outside and the person directing the tour would be with us at 2pm. She also advised us to have a hat, suncream and water for the tour, as it lasts for an hour and a half and the sun is very hot there. At exactly 2pm a gentleman came to collect us and introduced himself as Martin. Martin spoke very good English and was extremely knowledgeable about the Salinas and made the tour absolutely fascinating. He was very patient with me, even when I asked lots of questions, he answered every one fully. He was so passionate about the Salinas, it was catching, the more we found out, the more we wanted to know. Both my husband and I really enjoyed the tour and will definitely go back to see it again. Finding out about the history, where the water comes into the Salinas, how it gets to the various parts of the salinas and why, the process, different types of salt and introducing us to the local celebrities (Ducks & Stilts) and the mafia (seagulls}The time flew by, excuse the pun. At the end of the tour, we were a bit sad because we wanted to carry on talking to Martin about the place but Martin then said that he had organised a tasting of some of their salts, so that cheered us up. We went to a room beside the shop and had tried 3 different salts, one being the very special salt, Flore de Sal, which takes a whole year to make. We also tried a glass of the wine made in Geria especially for the Salinas, called 'Real' it was so nice that we bought two bottles, from the shop afterwards, along with various salts. The shop had many different products on sale, as you can imagine. Lots of flavoured salts, cooking salt, salt in pretty boxes, salt in jars and the famous Flore de sal, sold in different sizes. Apart from that were the soft drinks, wine, beers, water, ice-cream etc. They also have a cafe, so if you don't fancy a tour it's a lovely place to go to for a quiet coffee, tea, beer or wine. They also sell snacks. It's a wonderful, peaceful place to go just to sit quietly, and contemplate life. I would not recommend the tour for anyone with walking difficulties, some of the paths were a little uneven. All in all a fantastic time.
An absolutely amazing tour. Our guide Martin was the best tour guide I have ever met! His passion and knowledge is unbeatable. You can feel he genuinely loves the job, the place and can explain things very well. Made it special to my little girl too, who would be bored on tours like this, but she truly enjoyed this. I think Martin needs a reward, and more people should go and visit, as it is amazing! You can buy gift products, reasonably prized in the little gift shop. The experience was 5 out of 5!!!
We had a wonderful time on the tour, very informative and interesting amazing guide was so knowledgeable and the lovey wine cheese and salt tasting at the end really made it such a great afternoon. Really worth a visit.
Great guided tour. Martin is very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and entertaining. He did his very best to give us lots of interesting information. The tour offers great value for money. We highly recommend a visit!
Martin was the most enthusiastic, passionate guide. His knowledge was exceptional and made the tour so interesting and kept us all engaged and asking questions. I’ve always wondered what the salt flats were about and now I know - Martin’s English was excellent and totally my insanity for the “pies or piles” query!! If you are hesitating over doing the tour don’t, it is well worth it and the tasting at the end is a real treat :)
The tour guide was so passionate itbwas infectious! She told us all about the salt harvest process, history, and shared details of island culture. It was such a positive experience, we highly recommend you make time for a tour.
Although we have been to Lanzarote a few times, this was the first time we have done the Salinas Tour. Martin was such an interesting guide and so passionate about the Salinas. He was so informative and made the tour a great experience. There is so much to discover about salt and I would recommend this tour to everyone. The tasting at the end was very enjoyable and there is a small shop and cafe on site.
The visit was very interesting and Martin, our guide, took care to give us all the detailed information and answer any questions. He carried out the visit despite the bad weather and rain as per our request.
We are english residents living in Playa Blanca + we love finding out more + more about this stunning island 😊 we have drove past + thought how visually stunning it is + now we can say we been in + around it ! We were greeted by our lovely tour guide Martin 😊 the knowledge + enthusiasm of him was lovely ! He is so proud of the history + continued work there ! Very informative , we finished with a little taster of the produce + was really pleased we went !
Interesting tour but conducted in Spanish and English and I felt the guide’s English was patchy. We didn’t understand a lot of her explanations Tasting was nice but perhaps a little rushed
Martin was an amazing, informative and a kind tour guide. The tour was really interesting, the views amazing. Would recommend doing the tour since it is the only way to see the sailins!
Rocked up on the off-chance after visiting El Golfo and booked the private tour last minute - so glad we did this and not just the whistle-stop coach tour. We were part of a small group of 6. Our guide was fantastic, very engaging, he talked us through the history of the place and how the salt is collected and processed answering any questions as we went along. It’s a fair walk but almost entirely on the flat. There’s a good view of the site from the platform at the top of the windmill. I struggled a bit with the stairs being a creaky old bird but there’s not that many and it was do-able. Unfortunately we had to decline the glass of wine but we enjoyed the tasting session and were each kindly presented with a boxed sample at the end of the tour. A really interesting afternoon. Lovely team. Well worth the money.
What a hidden gem. To understand the 129 year history and get to see how the salinas still operates pretty much as it was designed to do was an unexpected pleasure. Martin the tour guide is fantastic, multilingual and obviously loves his job. Add in the cheese, wine and salt tasting well, what's not to love?! Recommended.
The tours run each day and we chose the 16:00 one. Our group consisted of me and my wife and 5 other people who were French. The tour guide described the history of the salt production at that site and also throughout Lanzarote. We were able to walk around the pens and canals and inside a renovated (but non-functional) windmill pump. This is one of seven originals, and there are two that have been renovated. The tasting session was inside, in the shade and consisted of wine or fresh water, tomatoes and various flavoured salts. Interesting tour, friendly tour guide (Jus) and the fellow guests were chatty as we practiced our French and they practiced their English spoken language. Very enjoyable few hours out with a gift at the end. We can recommend.
We visited on a Saturday afternoon in early June and surprisingly were the only ones on the tour so we got a very personal and relaxed tour. Most other visitors just went to the shop / bar and admired the views instead. Our guide was very friendly and provided an overview of the history of the site and production of salt and we were able to taste different varieties of their salt with cheese and tomatoes at the end, which was delicious. You are naturally exposed to the sun and the paths are a bit uneven but it is accessible to most and is certainly worthwhile if you want to gain a unique experience and insight. For those not interested in the tour, it is worth visiting just for the views and there is a lovely black sand beach (with a large free car park) a couple of minutes drive further down the road which is worth a visit too.
Very nice guided tour with Alberto. Very good explanation of the Salinas with a nice tasting afterwards. The guided was very informative and also funny. I can really recommend this guided tour, we were also able to take lovely pictures of the Salinas.
I booked in a last minute tour of the Salinas de Janerio through Tripadvisor and got a booking confirmation email immediately, but it said something about the email not being a ticket so I was a little confused. I decided to wing it though and it all went fine when I arrived. The guide checked for the booking on the system and said everything was good to go. There were only 5 people: a family of 4, and myself. Our guide (I think his name was Antonio?) was very friendly and spent a full 2 hours telling us about the salt pans and the history of the area in English and Spanish. He was very enthusiastic and happy to answer questions. We got a chance to go into the gated part and walk between the salt pans, see the windmills and reservoir, learn about the production, and taste some different salts. I really enjoyed the entire experience!!
The visit is totally worth the price (EUR22). We had the chance to have Martìn as our guide, a very knowledgeable, friendly, and fun guide who's super passionate about the salines and his job. He spent almost two hours explaining us in details the history of the salines and the salt production process both in Spanish and English. He answered all our questions and went above and beyond to make the visit interesting and pleasant. At the end, we were offered a glass of wine and a salt tasting. I highly recommend this experience! Thanks Martin 😊
What a great visit ! We selected the guided tour and had the best time. Our guide, Martin, was the sweetest and the most interesting. His passion for this place is endless and it's an absolute delight to listen to him. We spent more than 2 hours discovering the salines ! Ended with a glass of local wine and a salt degustation.
You can just park in the car park, make a purchase at the small shop or cafe/bar, and look out over the salt lakes for free. But you can't get through the barrier and actually walk amongst the salt lakes and see them up close, nor get near to the lagoon, without the tour. Incidentally, it is also prohibited to approach the lagoon from the beach on the opposite side (there's another car park here too) as it's a protected area (the signs are rather small). I struggled to identify birds on the lagoon from the beach with just binoculars. I initially baulked at the 22 euros each fee for the tour; it seemed pricy. However, I'm really glad we went ahead. Our guide was an Italian lady called Sabrina who spoke both Spanish and English, and whose knowledge and enthusiasm were infectious. The (approx 90 minute) tour was so interesting, covering the production process, the history, the ecology and more. This information allows you to appreciate what you are seeing so much more, and the importance of the salinas to the island, and of the paying visitors to the salinas. Close to the lagoon, we were allowed to climb to the top of one of the wind powered water pumps for the best views. Here, I was also able to identify ruddy ducks and black winged stilt. Then we returned to the buildings for a tasting session - not only of their salt but of local wine, cheese and tomatoes from other producers. All wonderful. Surprising that salt can have such distinct flavour and textures! You also receive a complimentary packet of their salt to take home (looking forward to using that on some home grown padron peppers later this summer!), so you really do get your money's worth! Muchas gracias.
We spent a very pleasant afternoon here, thanks to our guide Xus who spoke about the salina and its history with great enthusiasm and pride. The salina is beautiful from a distance, but it is only when you stand in the middle of it that you truly see its splendor. We therefore highly recommend everyone to book the guided tour.
