Private 2 Hour Whale Watching Tour

What a magical experience! The whole logisitical process from beginning to end was very smooth - online booking, communication before the tour, payment etc. All that allowed us to enjoy an extraordinary 2 hours off the coast of Tenerife, seeing 3 pods of pilot whales and then several dolphins. To describe Ion as a tour guide is a massive understatement! He is captain of the boat, he is an expert guide giving detailed explanations about these beautiful creatures in both English and Spanish, he is a photographer and clearly passionate about the environment and the welfare of the animals. The boat is a Zodiac dirigible, small but comfortable for the 10 passengers on our trip. The advantage of the small boat is that it can approach the whales to the permitted distance without scaring or stressing the whales. We heard the whales communicating with whistles and clicks through the hydrophone deployed by Ion - another one of his skills! Because we were able to see so many pods of pilot whales and dolphins we stayed out, well offshore, for almost the full 2 hours. Consequently, as a final treat, Ion blasted back to the harbour at top speed with a very, very happy group of passengers.

Today we went on a tour with Captain Ion, and we had a wonderful experience! He was extremely kind and friendly, and he explained everything about the tour with genuine enthusiasm and care, including what we might see along the way. The atmosphere was very interactive and enjoyable, which made the whole experience even more special. We definitely recommend this tour! 😊

We just had an absolutely wonderful whale watching tour with our guide Ion. From the very beginning, everything was perfectly organized. Communication was fast, friendly and reliable, and the whole booking process went smoothly. Ion was warm, friendly and attentive. He took the time to answer every question and made sure that everyone on board felt included and comfortable. What we appreciated most was the respectful way the tour was conducted. There was no chasing or feeding the animals, and whenever we had a sighting, the engine was turned off so we could simply observe and enjoy the moment without disturbing them. We’re so happy we chose this whale-watching tour! It was clear from the very beginning that the crew genuinely loves and respects marine life. The whole experience felt very eco-friendly and responsible — there was absolutely no chasing or disturbing the animals, just observing them respectfully in their natural environment. The crew was incredibly kind, spoke excellent English, and shared lots of interesting information about the whales, dolphins and the local marine ecosystem. Absolutely magical morning with Whale Watch Tenerife and captain/marine biologist Ion. From the moment we set off we were surrounded by constant pods of pilot whales, with bottlenose dolphins playing around the boat — my Godson even got to identify individual whales from the fin ID book, which made it so special for him. What set this trip apart was the knowledge and respect. Ion's passion as a marine biologist meant every sighting came with fascinating information about the animals and the incredible ecosystem off Tenerife, we felt like part of it, not spectators. The whole trip lived by the principle that we are guests in their house: no chasing, no crowding, just calm, respectful encounters that the animals seemed completely comfortable with. We had the most wonderful experience with our guides, Carlota and Inigo. They are both very knowledgeable and pleasant. We really loved their passion and respect for the animals. They were also great with kids despite the language barrier. At the end of the trip my kids both said that animals are so much happier in the ocean than in shows/aqua parks, a feeling I share with them. Being able to watch them in their environment is a very rewarding experience and provided the ideal tool to teach the children important lessons. For anybody travelling to Costa Adeje, this is a must experience!

Brilliant trip. Saw loads of pilot whales - really close up. Inigo and Carlota were both great. Very friendly and very knowledgeable. They took our boat away from all the other boats so we were the only ones there when we saw a big pod of whales. Would highly recommend these guys

This was just an amazing experience from start to finish. It’s worth every penny and I would do it all over again. Ion (staff) was fantastic and a truly specialist on marine life. The amount of information was just right, accessible to all adults and children and very interesting. We went as a family of three and we all enjoyed it. My 6 year old loved the boat ride as well as spotting the whales and dolphins on the tour. The two-hour tour went by so quickly - much better experience than going to a zoo to see animals in captivity!

The trip was fantastic! Ion was a very knowledgeable guide, with a deep love of and respect for the cetaceans in the marine reserve. We saw a pod of 20-30 Atlantic spotted dolphins, a migratory species, many with calves; they approached the boat and enjoyed bow-riding, which was very special. We also saw a pod of pilot whales; several approached the boat, ensuring that the close encounter we were privileged to experience was on their terms. It was lovely listening to the sounds they made, using the hydrophone. Ion took lots of photos and shared them with us later, meaning it was possible to just enjoy the animals without worrying about taking our own photos. I cannot recommend this trip highly enough - thank you Ion!

The skipper was excellent, calm, experienced, and made the whole trip feel safe and relaxed. Was a brilliant experience having only a small group made it easier and comfortable. Ion was a great tour guide with great knowledge. Up close to the pilot whales.. great !! We saw so many animals up close — it was absolutely amazing! Our guide, Ion, has an enormous knowledge of marine life, and the entire tour is designed to follow all biological guidelines to protect the animals. He takes photos with his own camera and later shares a link with everyone, allowing you to fully enjoy the experience while listening to his explanations. The boat was very clean, and all the infrastructure looked brand new. Communication with the team was always easy, and they were very punctual :)

Wonderful experience! I did a fair amount of research to decide which boat tour would be best for me and my family and I'm so pleased we opted to spend a little more money for this one. We were able to see a Loggerhead sea turtle, Flying fish and a couple of groups of Pilot whales! The smaller boat allowed us to have a great view while respecting a decent distance to not disturb the animals. Our captain and tour guide named Ion was an amazing wealth of knowledge! I saw the description advertised a "biologist" but really this could have meant any level of knowledge and experience. I am a herpetologist and my wife used to work as a biologist which we did not make common knowledge to Ion but we were very impressed by his knowledge on not only the animals we saw but the ocean as a whole. This was also coupled with Ion's charisma and sense of humour that made the tour all the more engaging. He answered all our questions with detail backed with years of experience. The only concern I would advice people wishing to book this boat tour is that this small boat may cause motion sickness. It was not a big problem for us. Just for a short while when we stopped to watch the whales my 9 year old son became a little sea sick as we were bobbing on the water. Ion gave the best advice he could and was attentive to the problem. This type of motion sickness is unavoidable and no fault to the company. Perhaps, a heads up to anyone going on this tour if they know they suffer from sea sickness to be prepared with motion sickness tablets. Overall, my whole family loved this boat tour and we would definitely recommend. It allowed us to have a really memorable experience sharing nature with a few amazing species!

My wife and I booked this trip after reading many positive reviews. Our captain and tour guide John was so knowledgeable and passionate about marine biology. We were so lucky to see two separate pods of Pilot whales as well as some flying fish and even a turtle on our way back to the marina. John lowered a hydrophone into the water as the whales passed under our boat so we could hear them communicate which was amazing. I would highly recommend this trip to everyone.

It was a great experience and Ion helped it to be even greater. He was very knowledgeable and made our tour much better :) It is recommended if you like to see how whales swim in peace.

Yesterday we had the absolute best 2 hour trip with John. We booked a private tour for 4 adults and 4 children and we all enjoyed it so much. John was so knowledgeable and you could see his passion for the creatures and protecting the ocean. We stopped on the way to scoop a huge piece of clear plastic. We then saw a loggerhead sea turtle which could have confused it for food. We then found a pod of mother and baby pilot whales. We all loved how respectful John was of them, the engines were cut and the pilot whales were given so much space. They came close to our boat of their own will. It was so beautiful to witness. We then went on to see a few other groups, we saw two groups meet and interact, even jumps from pilots which are very rare to see. We also saw dolphins. My little girls said it was the best day of our lives and the grown ups loved it. It was very clear to see that not all whale watching trips in Tenerife are equal. If you love the ocean and have respect for the creatures living it, please book a trip with this company. You won’t regret it. The best money we spent all holiday to see these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat whilst being respectful and giving them space. Will definitely book again on future holidays. the trip was incredible John was extremely informative and you could see cared a lot about the animals. we saw so many pilot whales and bottle nose dolphins up super close to the boat and overall the experience was wonderful- the most brilliant way to end our holiday. thank you so much john we had so much fun and really enjoyed learning more about the sea life in tenerife! we will be coming back!

We had such a great afternoon out, and was the highlight of our holiday. Our tour guide Ion was very friendly and knowledgeable, a lot of interesting facts! I couldn’t believe how quickly we saw the whales, within 10 minutes I’d say. Seeing three different kinds of species on our two hour tour: Pilot Whales, Bottlenose dolphins and I believe Baleen Whales. Ion also had a recording device so we could listen to them - so cool! An amazing experience you have to try in Tenerife. ¡Muchas gracias Ion!

Absolutely fantastic experience! We went on a dolphin and whale watching tour and had the best time. The guide was the only crew on board, he was incredibly professional, friendly, and spoke excellent English. He shared so much interesting information about the animals and the island. We were lucky to see both dolphins and whales up close — truly magical! The boat was clean and comfortable, and the group size was small, which made it even more enjoyable. The tour lasted about 2 hours, which was perfect for us and the kids. Overall, it was a fun, relaxing, and very well-organised trip. Definitely great value for money. Highly recommended!

Good organisation, very nice personnel (Moony and Ion) who gave us lots of information about the whales and dolphins. We were able to see many pilot whales from very close (a few meters away!) because the boat respected their space, getting close enough and letting the whales come to us. They adapted the trip to our daughter feeling seasick after 1 hour. We received many great photos the next day, allowing us to concentrate on seeing the whales with our eyes and not our phones during the trip! Highly recommended.

John and Moony were fantastic. We prefer the smaller tours and they did not disappoint. We spent two hours learning about the pilot whales and their lives as well as so many other ocean creatures. They definitely care about the ocean environment and take the time to educate others. John and Moony were also so excited to share their knowledge of the island. They felt like old friends that were just so great to hang out with. We can't recommend them enough! Thank you John and Moony for the fantastic time spent, knowledge learned and new memories!

I did A LOT of research before booking this trip. As someone who is passionate about wildlife conservation I wanted to make sure that a tour would be as much about the animals as it would be about an experience for us as a family. Whale Watch Tenerife ticked the boxes. From the very fist greeting at our meeting point, until our final goodbye Ion was informative and enthusiastic as well as mindful of the beautiful creatures he was able to show us. He was very knowledgeable and you could tell how much he enjoyed sharing his this with us. His explanations before we even left the harbour about how to stop the whales meant that it was or daughter who had the first shout, and both girls were enthralled by the whale pods we saw (this is even despite one of them feeling a bit motion sick due to having to switch off the engines and bob along so that we didn’t disturb the pods from their normal behaviour. It is REALLY IMPORTANT to ONLY go with a properly registered tour and if you can go with Whale Watch Tenerife you will have the most amazing and educational experience. They also take photos of the whales you see and send all of those to you which you can then try and identify against the university website as to Who you saw. Ion, I cannot thank you enough for such a fantastic trip we all learnt so much and can’t wait to sit down when we set home and try to look up and identify our beautiful whale friends.

Amazing morning! We saw a large pod of pilot whales and Ion was very knowledgeable about the other wildlife we saw - Jelly fish, birds etc. The highlight was the large pod of Dolphins (about 50) that swam with us for about 20 minutes, especially the ones that then decided to race us! Just fantastic.

We had such a great time on this trip! We saw lots of dolphins and pilot whales, and the children enjoyed the thrill of being on a small boat too. Ion, our guide, was extremely knowlegable: we learnt so much about the marine life in and around Tenerife. We felt in safe hands onboard, even with small children. We highly recommend this trip.
