Padi Open Water Course In Gran Canaria

I never tried scuba diving before, but I knew I wanted to give it a go, so I decided do the PADI open water course at Blue Water Diving. Prior to booking, I rang the owner, Kate, and she was incredibly helpful on the phone and patiently answered my many questions. I then booked the course online and showed up at the specified time. When I arrived, everyone was very friendly and I was directed to my instructor Eileen straight away. She went over my paperwork with me and set me and my gear up for the day. On the first day I completed one confined water dive on the Puerto Rico beach and two open water dives, about 5 min boat journey from Blue Water Diving. Despite me having no previous experience scuba diving Eileen made sure I enjoyed myself and felt very calm and relaxed the whole time. She was friendly, methodical, patient and good at explaining and going over different skills. On the second day I completed two more open water dives in the same spot and my partner who is already PADI open water diver certified was able to join me for both. Despite slightly stronger current and somewhat poorer visibility the second day was also a major success. Eileen was always right next to me during all of my dives and we were joined by other divemasters (some in training) who were all very friendly and always ready to help. I felt safe the whole time which meant I could focus on learning and enjoying the beautiful marine life. I can't sing enough praises to Eileen and the entire Blue Water Diving team. I highly recommend them and my partner and I are already looking into doing our PADI Advanced Open Water Course with them in the future! :)

From the very first moment I felt truly welcomed. The staff had an engaging and positive attitude that really set the tone for the whole experience. The instructor was highly knowledgeable, very pedagogical, and had a fantastic ability to explain things in a safe and inspiring way. All in all, this made the experience of getting my OWD certification even better than I could have imagined. Highly recommended!

Starting from zero experience in scuba diving, I took this course at Blue Water Diving and had an absolutely marvelous experience! I learnt so much in a few days and had some great fun dives as well. Well-trained and competent instructor, lovely crew, and a fantastic group dynamic. The instructor really sensed what I needed and gave me a lot of confidence — or, to use the instructor's own words: lovely sweetheart! Thank you so much!

This course is your gateway to diving. There are a lot of exercises to complete, to prepare you in case anything goes wrong on a dive. But a real sense of achievement when you finish. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and we really liked our instructor Angela. When you sign up, the dive shop will enroll you for the official PADI online theory course, which you need to complete before you dive. Be aware that it may take you around 10 hours, so leave time for that!

Sadly just a bad Experience. I don't speak all for myself here. I started the Rescue Diver Course (I have the OWD and the Advanced OWD-Course, are Deep Diving Certified and have the Nitrox Certification) and my Girlfriend started the Open Water Diver Course. Anyway the Rescue Diver Course, especially Eileen the Instructor was quite Cool and Professional. But still no Questions where asked about my Experience or explenations of what the Programm will be. My girlfriend had a very bad experience, she was rushed and her Instructor was very stressed and rude to the staff. They didn't give her any good Instructions and her First Dive was way too early and rushed without proper Instruction as well, wich is absolutely irresponsible if you work with someone who took her first breath underwater for the first time about an hour ago. All in all a very bad Diving Center if you want an cool and relaxed start into the diving world.

We had the best time with the team at Blue Water... My 11 year old son and I completed the 'open water' course across 3 days. I'd looked around at the various schools and glad we went with Blue Water in Puerto Rico. Our instructor Eileen was amazing, one of those people you know loves what they do and was very reassuring, clear, knowledgeable, knew what to say, celebrated evey sucess and she is a credit to the dive school. Eileen took time to show us lots of wildlife and explain what we would be doing on each dive, so a mix of learning and fun....The wider team were fantastic and really made sure we were ready to dive and had everything we needed for it to be enjoyable. The team spoke a wide range of languages and had interns supporting from all over the world. We also hired a gopro to capture some memories.We only wish we could have stayed and had more dives however it's time to head home... my son is inspired and already planning his next dives and advanced open water when he turns 12!

3 teachers accompanied me and gave me a lot of security Gilles conjured up my initial panic by making eye contact and breathing with me Incredibly, the first time I saw squid, giant rays & countless fish Thx 4 this unforgettable experience!!

I qualified as an Advanced Open Water Diver back in 2001 with my wife so we always knew when we had our son as soon as he was old enough we wanted to give him the opportunity. Why is it important to share this? Well when you are trusting a team with your only child it has to be the right choice and a great team. The full team at Blue Water didn’t let us down in anyway they were nothing short of amazing. My son qualified for his Junior open water and we will be back in October when he turns 12 to do his Junior advanced. If you are brand new, fully qualified and really experienced or wanting to get your kids to try a lifelong skill then do not hesitate to contact Kate & Chris at Bluewater their knowledge, the team they have created and the warm welcome they give everyone is exceptional. Having been lucky enough to dive all over the world I have to say this is the best Dive club by far. Special mention to Eileen, Giles and Kate who trained and were buddies with my son. They have given him the bug (have to say I’m delighted) and he wanted me to pass on his thanks he loves you all. Steph who myself and my wife went diving with was superb and an awesome professional. Last mention (this is really bad of me) to the Scottish chap who was on holiday who took us on another dive with the Blue Water team he was excellent. Again the reason for mentioning is that he trained with Blue Water and goes back all the time to spend time with the team which just says everything. So how do I sum up the experience, 5 star you will struggle to find a better team to dive with.

My son and I had a fantastic experience with Chris, Kate, and the team at Blue Water. It was our first time diving and Chris, Guillem and Giles made us feel safe and prepared for every part of the course as well as taking us on 4 amazing and memorable dives to start our scuba diving lives. My son is 13 and Chris and Giles were so patient with him but firm on the importance of the skills we needed to stay safe under the water and to pass the course. I look forward to diving again with Blue Water and can recommend them wholeheartedly.

Amazing experience with beautiful diving sites! I took the Open Water course with no diving or snorkeling experience, and I am glad I took the course at Blue Water Diving. Kate and Chris are highly professional, supportive, super friendly, and fun! In the beginning, I had trouble with equalizing my ears, but Kate encouraged me and made me always feel safe and well looked after. Thanks to her and her team I was able to finish the course successfully despite my initial difficulties with equalization. They were kind and patient but also serious and supportive when needed, which made it the perfect learning experience. Both Kate and Chris are incredible teachers, and it was an honor to learn from them. They were able to pay attention to each person's individual needs and make it an amazing diving experience for everyone. The balance between fun and learning was excellent. Even while driving to the diving sites spending time with the Blue Water Diving team was super fun!!! It’s a great bunch of people with highly trained interns who were very attentive and professional. A special thanks to my dive buddy Leonie who is an incredible diver and teacher as well. Her passion for diving was truly inspiring. I spent some more time with the team after diving, and it was so much fun and an absolute pleasure to meet every single one of You!!!! Thank you so much for this incredible time and experience. Anyone thinking about scuba diving should book Blue Water Diving. You’ll be in great hands!

Highly recommend Kate and Chris for the open water course. My wife and I took this course with them and will be using bluewater diving for our next course. Kate was super helpful and friendly when we booked. Chris is an extremely professional instructor and his attention to detail was superb. Felt safe at all times and every exercise was explained very clearly. The balance between fun and learning was perfect. (And we had a lot of fun! ) All the dive masters and instructors were attentive and really nice guys. We passed our course and immediately booked another couple of guided dives with them. A superb team altogether.

Having completed my PADI Advanced Open Water with Kate at Blue Water in Feb 2020, and diving with them again in April 2022, when Chris also took my son on a discover scuba dive, they were definitely the place outside the UK for me to trust to take my son through PADI junior open water, which he’s achieved with Chris this week. Chris was great with him, good fun, but serious when needed, and firm when needed too. Excellent as ever and we’ll be back….and so much warmer to dive than back at home at the moment too!!

Had an excellent time with Chris and Zara were brilliant patient instructors you feel safe in their hands and your confidence builds through the course along with your skills. Any queries you have are easily rectified and explained clearly. Kate was helpful with the admin and is happy to help. You get an online link to the training, but if you down the padi app this works better than in a Web browser. Saw lots of sealife I was lucky saw a sting ray, Eagle ray, sea horse and puffer fish to name a few. Really excellent course can't rate these guys highly enough thank you.

Can’t rate Blue Water Diving any higher. The team here are absolutely excellent and provide not only a top notch dive experience, but also a high quality of care and laughs along the way. Would be my recommended dive shop across the whole of Europe for anything from first dives to experienced divers.

I had such an incredible experience completing my Open Water certification at Blue Water Diving, Kate & Chris and the whole team were both friendly and professional, and always patient during the trainings. I was able to experience both shore and boat dives during the course and made some memories I will never forget! Blue water diving was an excellent place to complete my open water diving course. The staff was awesome and the scheduling for further dives was very flexible. A lot of cool sites were explored during my stay. Definitely recommend.

Booked a beginners dive for myself & three others. Kate & Chris were absolutely brilliant from booking process right up until after the dive. We emailed a couple of days before to add on a person to the dive and this was no hassle at all. Both were extremely patient and great with explaining what to do when diving. Safety was clearly a key priority. It was an amazing experience to see some great marine life. I will definitely be back next year to do my open water cert.

Fantastic experience, Absolutely loved it! Incredible people and my diving instructor Keko, made my first time with diving very safe, fun and understanding. Kate, Chris and the amazing interns all help me a lot, and now I feel ready to go out into the world, and continue my diving education safely.

We did the open water dive course with Blue Waters. Three days of fun, learning and plenty of new skills learnt. Underwater scenery is awesome, very decent equipment and the instructor, Dani, very knowledgeable who made our Padi, a real pleasure! Can't wait for our next dive with the same crew!. I did my Open Water Dive course with Chris and absolutely loved every minute of it. It was my first experience in diving and the guys made sure I felt comfortable throughout the whole course. They are extremely professional, with strong sense of responsibility and safety is of their highest priority. 2 of 3 days it was just me and the instructor and special attention was given to all details and all my questions were properly answered. The whole experience was a lot of fun and Chris took me to some amazing diving spots where I managed to see an angel shark, ray, octopus, and many other marine species even on my first dive in open waters. I fell in love with diving since then. I highly recommend this dive shop and I will be back to do the Advanced Open Water course with them.

Can’t say enough good things about Kate, Chris and Co. Everyone at Blue Water Diving is super friendly, knowledgable and professional. My husband and I started out a bit nervous but they put us at ease straight away and made everything simple and easy to pick up on. We began with the open water certification and loved it so much that we moved on to the advanced course right after. If you do anything while you’re in Gran Canaria, take a few days to complete one of the courses they offer, you won’t regret it!!

Chris, jaffa and Ivan were the best instructors for open water dive. We were a five people family and did the PADI open water divers course. Great course , enthusiastic people, very professional. They learned is everthing in the pool so there was no fear in the ocean. We all got the same love for diving. If you search for the best then you will find it at puerto Rico Gran Canaria at Blue water diving . We will come back visiting them . We all love to dive now .

Did the open water course and following advanced open water course with blue water diving. From the very first pool session to the last adventure dive I have had a great positive experience. The instructors are all fun and at the same time reassuring and serious about the training. (Special thanks Nathan and Danny; you rock!) I have seen many different sites with beautiful marine life and scenery like wrecks. My favorite dives of the week must have been the deep dive which was super relaxed with loads of fish, rays, eels.. and the peak performance buoyancy dive aka playing games under water with Kate which was good fun. In the beginning before a couple of dives I was either seasick or a bit out of breath on the surface and Kate responded very nicely and was in no rush. This helped a lot. Tip: if you are seasick just go down asap and catch a breath at about 3M where everything is calm. You’ll feel better fast. Equipment was always sorted and clean. Just book a dive (course) with them especially during these times when it’s one of the things you can still do “normally”. (And safe!)

Came over to Gran Canaria to see my brother (a dive master). He introduced me to the blue water diving team and we got going straight away. Lovely instructors, both Kate and Carolyn were incredible, patient, understanding and friendly. If I ever want to do another diving course, i'd fly straight to gran canaria and sign myself up. 10/10 would recommend again

Not sure how to start this! Absolutely fantastic people! I highly recommended it for everyone. We met Kate(Boss) by pure luck and we started talking about scuba diving, she helped me convincing my wife to join me for a PADI open water course. We both loved it! We can’t wait until next vacation for a new course or a dive. We got great help from Rachel (instructor) with our children while diving, as she took them snorkelling so we the parents could concentrate on the diving lessons. Thank you very much Carolyn (instructor) for teaching us, we had so much fun with you and you are such a great teacher, we can’t wait to dive with you again in the future.

Completed our 3 day Padi Open Water Diver course with Blue Water Diving yesterday. Everyone there was so friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Carolyn who was our instructor throughout the course. She is a natural instructor explaining things with ease, making the course fun and enjoyable. In the end helping us learn quickly, managing to get a wreck and drift dive in on the last day because of it. Would 100% recommend this diving establishment to anyone interested in scuba diving. Thanks once again to Carolyn and the Blue Water Diving Team.

Great experience with the Dive Guru Chris and his crew! Very easygoing teacher, explains everything and practice several times on the pool and then on the sea!! He has knowledge of the sea, preserve the bottom from human waste and shows big respect of all creatures living down there! We did the course in a small group of 3 people, which is a big advantage, and he ensures that we also experience diving during the learning sessions. Along the diving sessions we were lucky to see big variety of fishes eg. angel shark, cuttlefish, barracudas, red mullets and many more.. We highly recommend Chris and Kate at Blue Water Dive center! Excellent PADI Open Water experience. Me and my partner enjoyed learning diving with Chris and his crew. He is a great and very experienced diving instructor! He makes the first diving sessions seemed very easy and safe. The sessions are conducted in very small groups (we were 3 students) so it is very personalised. We would definetely book more divings when back to Gran Canaria and we totally recommend it!

The people at Blue Water Diving are realy friendly and helpful. They sett me up whit the theoretical part of the open Water course online in advance so I only had to focus on diving while there. I had one to one training with my instructor, and he paced the progresjon to fit me. He also changed the dive site to what he meant would suit me best, for the level I was at. If you are planting to taking a dive course or going diving in general I would highly recommend Blue Water Diving.

We came to do the discover diving course for one afternoon and our whole family felt so at ease and comfortable in the water and confident with the staff’s ability that we all wanted to return. This lead to the four of us completing our PADI course with the Blue Water Diving centre in just 3 mornings which we all thoroughly enjoyed and felt safe because of the obvious experience and safety of our dive master Chris. I would seriously recommend trying scuba diving if you have not done before as it is an amazing experience like no other and I feel that this centre provides great courses and dive routes for all level of divers. I would therefore recommend the Blue Water Diving Centre to anyone who is visiting the island of Grand Canarya as it is an unforgettable experience and interaction on a personal level with dive masters that you will not receive anywhere else.

I did some research in the UK and really liked the sound of Blue Water Diving. I contacted Kate in advance to say that 5 of us were coming out and wanted to try diving, with option of getting qualified. Kate was extremely helpful as well as flexible. Pick up and drop off from our hotel in Maspalomas was included. First Discover Dive was fabulous - equipment looked good, Chris instructed us clearly and patiently and we all felt confident and had fun. Only after that did we decide to do the whole PADI Open Water qualification, which Kate booked us in for over the next two days at our convenience. Wreck dive, drift dive and harbour dive later (plus a pool session) and we’re qualified! Thank you Kate and Chris (and Patricia and Lily) for a fab family experience and opening up the world of diving to us. Not many things that mum, dad and three teenagers can all enjoy together, but this is a great one. Highly recommend.

I had previously done a discover dive in another resort when I was younger and had a poor experience. However Chris and his team was supportive from the off and with their positive encouragement I felt relaxed in the water and enjoyed every minute of it. From the booking with Kate, to the actual ‘one-on-one training’ ( no big groups here!) their entire approuch is amazing, very friendly, informative and is very well done, and most important, safety first and lots of personal attention. Amazing crew and dive centre. Spent time researching all the dive and these guys stood out. Not a natural in the water, but Kate, Chris and crew made me feel at complete ease and helped me get my qualification. Disappointed I don't have time for more dives but definitely recommend these guys and will be back for more in future.
