Great experience! The transportation and communication were great. The dinner was very tasty, and the hosts were lovely and friendly. The stargazing was amazing, and the guide was very informative and knowledgeable. Highly recommended.
The travel to and from the hotel to mount Teide is 2 hours it took to get back to golf del sur the tour needs to be more localised unless your not bothered sitting for 2 hours to get back Meal was good three courses in a lovely. Plus as much wine as you want included. It would have been good to have heard from the owner regarding the winery how long they’ve been producing wine etc Please make sure you have long trousers, lots of layers and a warm coat plus a hat especially in winter as it’s very cold
The food was inedible and our trip got cancelled and we only got a 50% refund . Book with Night Sky’s instead they only charged us €149 but here cost us €249 and Night Sky’s was much better .
My husband and I went on this tour and really enjoyed it. I should just say that there was a communication issue with pick up time which did mean we were picked up 55 minutes after the allocated time, however I am still giving five stars (4.5 would have been ideal). The transfer, once we were on the bus, was extremely efficient. Also, it was a nice sized group of only about 16 people. The first stop at the vineyard for dinner was delightful - nothing fancy but a good hearty meal, excellent service and generous with the wine! We then proceeded to the area for star gazing. I should say that, no, this is not the top of Mount Teide (you need a cable car for that and that only runs during the day) but it doesn't matter because you are still very high and it is very dark. It was very windy so don't forget warm clothes. We then had an hour of star gazing with our guide explaining what we could see and answering any questions. Again, no, we did not use telescopes, but we weren't expecting to because we had read the itinerary in advance. The driver was excellent - yes, lots of hairpin bends but it is a mountain.... Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable evening and excellent value for money.
A friend and I booked the Teide Under the Stars Experience in November 2024 directly through the Viajes Teide website and received a confirmation email with our tickets attached. We were at the bus stop at our allotted time, but no bus arrived. We called Viajes Teide and spoke with someone who realized our reservation had gotten "lost." However, they knew my name based the date of our excursion and my phone number, so clearly I was somewhere in their system. Secondly, the person said other guests had complained that there was an issue with their booking system some time in November. So Viajes Teide knew there was an issue, and had my information somewhere, but still did nothing about it. As this excursion is only offered twice weekly, we could not accept their reschedule. They have processed a refund but there was no apology email or any further communication. We are beyond disappointed because we arranged our entire trip around attending this excursion. I never write negative reviews but beyond the customer service rep exclaiming "oh sh*t oh sh*t, I am sorry" when they realized our reservation was lost, the agency did not care.
Beautiful evening for stargazing. So clear and knowledgeable guide.A real experience but wrap up warm.Beautiful meal in old casa before stargazing.Next time Mount Teide by day.
To start off we boarded a small coach then drove to the south of the island picking up a few others on the way. We then had to dismount the small coach and wait on a big coach for about 15 mins. We then were clearly late for the dinner as although it was tasty, it was rushed and then quick toilet stop and back on the coach. The sun had already set and we were inside so could not see anything at all!! We never saw over the crater at all ( part of the description of the tour) just sat on a wall in a car park with other car and coach lights to distract you. Information was clear and the guide clearly knew his stuff but after 45 mins of looking at a laser point out some stars and Milky Way ( this bit was actually ok) we re boarded the big coach, got dropped in a lay-by to change to the small coach and then dropped at our hotel which was quite quick not like the 90 mins on the way after picking people up and having to change bus. We left at 6 and 6 hours later we returned to our hotel in that time 1 hr 30 mins was actually out the coach and the rest of the 4.5 hours was in the coach!! Disappointed is an understatement. Avoid wasting €150 we will be making a complaint!!
The Meal at the Revron restaurant and winery was excellent. The people were welcoming. The Astronomer was very knowledgable although he did make me feel like l was back at school. Don’t go on a night with a full moon as you don’t get to see as much.
From start to finish , what an amazing experience , we booked with Tui. Isobel our guide on board was so knowledgable, funny and friendly. Breathtaking views once in a lifetime dream to see the stars and the moons through a telescope.
If you’re into Stargazing, I wouldn’t miss an opportunity to see them like you have never saw them before! What an experience. Communication from your guide before the trip was ideal before we set off, hotel pick up, a lovely meal from a vineyard high up in the hills was so good, especially with some wine tasting, and a chance to buy some local produce, wine and souvenirs, then back on the bus for our journey up to Mount Teide. The tour guide explains everything using a laser pen in Spanish and English. He points to all the constellations and even though we saw so much stars, he said you would be gauranteed to see more of you went later than we did! I was impressed with the tour and what we saw and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and would recommend to others to go, but I am into star gazing and found it all so very interesting. When I return to Tenerife I would definitely do this trip again! Just wonderful.
This tour should be titled winery dinner as it was more about the dinner than stargazing No telescopes, guide was reading from his ipad, we booked a tour in english only it was 20 mins of spanish and a 5 mins english explanation for everything, we learned nothing new we only saw few constellations pointed at with the laser, for the rest it was an extremely long ride, changed buses & of poor interest Save your money & time most importantly as it was a waste of an evening
Myself and my partner had a fantastic time on this excursion. We got picked up directly from our hotel and had a pleasant trip. It was a small group which was lovely. The food at Godega Reveron was delicious. It was such a lovely restaurant with breathtaking views. The staff were so friendly. I even bought a bottle of wine to take with me from their very own winery at a fantastic price. The star gazing was amazing and the tour guide was very informative. We thought it was excellent value for money.
We thoroughly enjoyed this trip apart from the journey home. We were the second to last pick up on the way so weren’t on the coach for too long. The stop at Bodega Reveron was lovely - delicious food and wine, and the kids were treated to a nice chocolate bar at the end of their meal. The main event of stargazing was spectacular and our guide was personable and knowledgeable. The only downside was that we were the second to last drop off on the way home - so we were on the coach for 2 hours, getting back to our resort at 1am. This wouldn’t have been so bad if the last toilet stop hadn’t been at the Bodega at about 9pm!
On the 17th July we went on this excursion. Our hotel, the Hideaway Corales Suites booked this for us. The below summarises the dangerous nature of our tour. The vehicle was not operating in accordance with Spanish MOT guidelines. Good Morning, It is with regret that I am writing to request a full refund from the stargazing trip last night. The reason for this request is not simply the delay caused by the issue with the Driver locking the key in the vehicle. The issue is health and safety. Three incidents led to this" 1. After dinner, and on our way up to the viewing spot, we had to stop as the engine was over heating. 2. Within five minutes of arriving at the viewing spot, it became apparent that the vehicle was not accessible as the keys were onboard. The emergency handle on the side of the vehicle was broken. This is unacceptable. 3. After over two hours of waiting, and encouraged to go to the toilet in the open space if required, we left the viewing spot. We had to stop three minutes later because the driver had left the rear compartment boot open. As a family, this was a disappointing trip. As a parent and adult, it was unsafe. We made the entire journey with a vehicle whose safety features were inoperable. I do apologise for making a complaint. However, the safety of this tour was inadequate. Regards The response from the tour company, and our hotel is... these things happen from time to time. The hotel is particularly disappointing as we asked them to assist us. The emergency handle is a legal requirement. It could not be opened. In a area with no reception and pitch darkness. Our first and last trip to a Barcelo, and definitely this tour company.
It was very nice..amazing food in family restaurant with a nice view, and then perfect story about a sky and total dark with amazing stars!!
The dinner at the winery was delicious. The sunset was outstanding and the tour guide was knowledgeable. This was a great experience.
This is difficult to review as there are different aspects of the tour worth considering. We got picked out from our hotel at 18.35 then spent well over an hour picking other people up before arriving at Bodegas Reveron winery which was a long climb up mountain roads in a small Mercedes air conditioned coach which is quite cramped. The winery meal was excellent, we had a 3 course meal with plenty of wine and a vegetarian option was offered, everything was home made, hot and delicious. We then had the opportunity to buy wine, use the loo ( last one of the evening) before ascending to a car park quite high up mount Teide. We alighted our coach for a 45 minute talk by a guide who knew everything there was to know about astronomy, he was amazing, speaking in both Spanish & English. If you are remotely interested in astronomy this would be really good, but you are stood outside in the cold so take some extra layers, he used a laser pen to describe all the main stars and constellations and answered everyone’s questions. Then we got back on the coach for another 1 1/2 hours for the hotel drop offs. On the mountain it was a nice night there were no clouds or winds & the temperature was about 13C so was ok, the main problem for us was the long coach rides. I wouldn’t recommend this for children as I think they would get bored. We got back to our hotel around midnight.
This could have been a good trip but it was immediately marred by getting onto a boiling hot coach which when I enquired after about 10 mins that the air conditioning was not working. This would seem fairly irresponsible during a local heatwave - temperature displayed on the coach dashboard when we got on was 34 deg C. We then proceeded to drive around for an hour picking up the other passengers before heading for Teide National Park. By this stage my kids aged 8 & 6 were already destroyed by the punishing heat on board. We made our way to the vineyard restaurant where we were informed that we would be served our meal and afterwards would have the opportunity to taste some of the wine and purchase from the shop. The staff were warm and welcoming and the dinner was good but once dessert was served we were informed that the coach would be leaving in 10 minutes and we should get to the toilet as there would be no other opportunity on the trip. We set off again and there was some commentary from the guide but this was mostly inaudible due to the poor sound quality on the coach. We finally arrived in a lay-by where we were treated to an informative chat about the night sky which I enjoyed but was distracted by cars passing by with full beam on which did little for my night vision. It was quite cool at the top which was a blessed relief after the roasting in the coach. It was then ‘all aboard’ for the reverse journey, descending back into the heat accompanied by an in-depth tour of the hotels of Tenerife. This maybe will be an unforgettable experience as billed but for all the wrong reasons. This is too expensive, the travelling goes on too long, the stops are too short - this should not be billed as child friendly. I appreciate that ‘things happen’ but in this case, as soon as it was known that the coach A/C was not working, customers should have been made aware and been given the option to cancel and been offered a refund especially with unseasonably high temperatures.
So really mixed thoughts but if asked I wouldn’t recommend. The good things - comfy coach, dinner at bodega reveron was lovely, quantity and quality really good with a real homely feel and stargazing lead knowledgeable. However…… time on coach far too long, would be better if one language group at a time, otherwise just standing around for quite a while aimlessly. As others have said it felt like being stuck in a car park which took away from the information being provided. Not really what we expected. That will teach me to read the description more carefully next time - and read reviews first!
Pick up great Dinner was very very good the tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and very interesting. He was multi lingual and the actual stargazing was fantastic would go again well worth the money
Whilst the stargazing was informative and very enjoyable and the meal at the Bodega exceeded expectations m, the family were wonderful hosts, the pick up process was awful. We were 2 hours in the very smart Mini coach driving all along the south coast from Los Gigantes to El Medano. There was no advice at booking nor by the guide on the coach who gave us no explanation as to what was happening until we were all on the coach. His knowledge and enthusiasm at the stargazing was excellent. Unfortunately the stopping point to stargaze was one of the pull offs on the way to Teide so with every passing car there was light pollution. With a few changes and a coach feeder system to speed up travel time this would be a 5* experience.
Despite not being picked up at hotel as stated in the booking! We had the best night 😁 stopped off for dinner at the beautiful bodega, lovely tasty food. I’d have bought some wine that they make but we’re heading home and no weight left in the case 😂 we then headed to do some star gazing. Sky was a clear as it could be And it was spectacular to see so many stars!! Our guide was so knowledgeable, he was amazing! Couldn’t have hoped for anyone better. Pointing out all the constellation, just beautiful to see a sky full of stars. Dido (his nickname) you were amazing and made our trip. I’d highly recommend it, worth every penny!!
I highly recommend this trip to anyone who would like to see the stars and constellations without the light pollution. The tour was informative, the food and wine was excellent at the Bodega Reveron. Do take the warm clothing as recommended because it did get chilly even for a Brit! And make sure you read the message they send you about the pick up point, which we managed to get amended in time.
Lovely meal and stargazing activity. As a coeliac it is often hard to get food on tours, however, here they were so happy it help, all three courses we fully catered for with a gluten and dairy free option (I don’t need dairy free but they make a combined option to cover bases) the food was fresh home cooked and tasty and the waitress commented how if they know the needs in advance they love to cater for them. The wine was very nice and served in generous supply. Once we got up the mountain the guide was very informative about the night sky giving detailed knowledge and answering questions in Spanish, English and occasionally German. One thing to be aware off the hotel pick ups means you might be on the coach for a long time depending on where people book from.
Bring a jacket since the mountain top is quite cold and windy. The dinner was excellent with three types of wine included. Every group had their own table as well. The star gazing itself was done very professionally. Long bus ride but the bus was quite comfortable. Highly recommend, definitely worth the price.
EXCELLENT! We booked this via our hotel reception. The coach picked us up and dropped us off just around the corner from the hotel (Guanahani in Costa Adeje). We always think the stops at other hotels are time consuming but it was quite interesting as it felt like another view of the various resorts on the island. The meal at the Bodega Reveron was lovely and as this was an hours stop the owners were quick to guide us inside and seat us. The meal consisted of nibbles, soup, main course (they were geared up for vegetarians as well), dessert, wine (their own as they have a vineyard and you can buy some in their shop as well) and water. So, back to the coach and on to the stopping place at Mount Teide. The guide was excellent and communicated in English, Spanish (and Catalan as well I thought). He detailed explanations of the star systems (complete with shooting stars every now and then) with his laser was excellent and extremely informative. Sadly as there was a half moon the Milky Way could not be seen but the detail on the moon itself was fascinating - we took out binoculars so we could see even more and the star gazing was just out of this world. We were at the viewing for about 45 minutes and it was very cool 8 degrees which we were warned about when we booked so do dress warmly. The next time we visit we will book a daytime trip to Mount Teide as we would like to see the daytime landscape. An experience not to be missed.
Loved this trip the food was lovely as was the wine. The stars were amazing to see so enjoyed it. The tour guide was very good speaking in Spanish and English
Good organisation from start to finish. Dinner was really nice and we had some lovely people on our table. It was a slightly cloudy sky but our astronomer guide was able to point out lots of constellations and planets and gave us lots of information. A delightful evening.
It didn't happen as the viach broke down before it got yo us .wait an hour before we were told it was off
If you fancy an amazing experience, book this excursion! The journey is long, but extremely interesting; out guide was multi-linguistic, and kept everyone entertained. On arrival at the restaurant, we were grouped by language and party size, and shown our seats. The food was delicious, and cooked to perfection; 3 courses with free flowing, white, red and rose wine! From there, it was a 30 minute journey to the viewing area, where our guide spoke fluently, about the stars, planets, moons, and constellations! It was an amazing experience, even seeing around 6 shooting stars; perfect if your relationship is romantic. I, 100% recommend this excursion; it’s a wonderful experience.
We booked the tour in english, but the tour guide talked in english and spanish, which cut the actual information that was given in half. The tour guide knew what he was talking about, but if questions were asked in spanish he only answered in spanish and did not translate. Furthermore people were chatting a lot which made jt even harder to understand (the tour guide did not tell them to keep it down). The food was great!
This is by far the worst experience I’ve had in any trip. Was on a bus from 7 till 1:45 am, collecting and dropping people off, most of the trip was spent here. The food provided was pre clocked and not at all enjoyable, everyone on the trip was so disappointed. Only enjoyable thing I can think off was the wine and the group of people we got talking to on the bus & restaurant. We stopped for less than an hour in total in between restaurant & seeing the starts and by the time we reach teide we were way too fed up to even listen to the poor guide. We just couldn’t bare with it anymore and were completely uninterested by that point. Let’s not forget we parked in the middle of a high road with cars and lights distracting everyone from hearing or evening seeing anything due to the car lights. We also got out on a full moon so no starts were visible, to which the guay kept telling us to use our imagination..? AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Everything felt rushed, we were even rushed out of the toilet which was the only loo stop we made out in the restaurant during the whole trip hence the whole bus was queuing. Goes without saying but if you are considering this do not bring children & older adults, they will really have a hard time. It was also not stated that we would’ve had to drive from our complex back & forth, aside from stoping in almost every single hotel. Very misleading as may people had to get taxis and etc when dropped off in the middle of nowhere without knowing the island or the language. Will be chasing for a full refund as it was simply inappropriate and extortionate of their tourism. This “excursion” should not be a thing at all.
After a long and bumpy journey up the top of Mount Teide, we were expected to alight from the coach in the national park. Side note – this entire experience on the mountain is conducted in a lay by with parked cars. Terrain was bumpy, stairs on the coach were dark as it was nighttime, no handrails. I caught my foot between the steps, fell and broke my leg in four places as well as fractured my ankle and severely sprained my right, leaving me completely non weight bearing. The tour guide was not appropriately trained to deliver first aid, nor was the coach driver. There was no first aid equipment. This tour goes to the top of a mountain where the nearest ambulance takes an hour to get to. Completely dangerous. The bus driver has refused to give his details, the coach company has refused to respond to emails and telephone calls, Viajes Teide itself has gaslit me by telling me that my accident happened in a completely different way. It was a traumatic and excruciating experience on its own that was exacerbated by the tour company’s callous response during and after the incident. They still refuse to give any insurance details. Never go on this tour.
The food was only 1 option, but was good. The stars were good and the guide was very knowledgeable and funny. But was just up a mountain, you wouldn't know it was a volcano, misled a little
Fabulous view of the stars meal was fab . A little bit hard to understand the tour guide when speaking on the bus but when we got off at Mount teide it was clearer to understand him .
Heartily recommend this tour. Our guide was so knowledgeable about astronomy and we learned so much. Dinner at Bodega was excellent too.
Thoroughly enjoyed the whole evening, food was good at Bodega Reveron and so was the wine, very friendly and fun. Trip up Teide was scenic and the astronomer man friendly and knowledgable. You def need warm clothes! We all really enjoyed it and was good value for money. Not sure why people moan you are stargazing in a car park as really where else would you park a coach 😊 - it didn’t bother us one bit at all - stars were amazing, so clear and sooo many more than you get a home
Firstly - for £50pp this was good value for money and the guided tour of the stars was phenomenal; we were very lucky with weather. But otherwise this was a painful experience of rushed food (only an hour, and this is a fixed menu) to what can only be described as a nightmare pickup / drop off experience being considerably much longer than required and a drop off on a motorway!! Do your research and ask where the main pickup is - if you are outside of Los Christianos expect at least another 30-40 minutes to your journey time
Our tour was with Viajes Teide. Booked at our Hotel in El Medano. We had to get a taxi to another hotel and we were collected by minibus at 6.15 pm. Really enjoyed the vineyard visit with home cooked meal, we had delicious soup and pork loin main with desert. Really lovely couple and staff serving and helping us taste their wine. This took about an hour. The tour guide was an astronomer so we received some very useful information as we travelled up the volcano. It was a long drive on very very winding roads. We parked in a lay-by with other camper vans to have the star gazing experience. The sky was amazingly bright with stars and the astronomer used a laser light to identify the stars he was talking about. It was very interesting and I learnt a great deal. It was very very cold, we had taken warm clothes but I still got very cold just standing on the volcano for an hour. my suggestion would be to do one talk in Spanish and then another in English, rather than combining the talk as we all spent a lot of time in the cold listening to info in Spanish we didn’t understand. I also think we could have had more info in the minibus. The problem for us was the return journey. We finished the star gazing at 9.30pm and finally got back to the hotel at 11.45 pm. We didn’t get dropped back at our hotel , we had to get a taxi from a patrol station, the driver of the minibus sorted this for us, we were very grateful as it was late and we didn’t have a clue. At the end there were 4 of us left in the minibus and he put us all in a taxi. We got back to our hotel both feeling very car sick, one passenger had vomited on the bus. It was such a long drive down the volcano and then travelling for miles to drop others at their hotels ! I don’t feel it was brilliant value as we paid 58€ each and 2 taxi journeys at 30€ total.
We didn't have big expectations on this tour, nevertheless, it left us wanting more of the offered experience, and not because it was good, rather because it was quite basic. The main reason for us to take the tour was stargazing. Even though the explanations from Diego were good and considering the fact that we saw some stars, the experience itself felt short: I was expecting a small walk to the park to be closer to nature. Instead, we were dropped out of the bus at a parking lot next to the main road; meaning that we were disturbed by the passing cars (noise and lights). The dinner was ok, really simple, small portions. nevertheless, good wine and nice service. So, overall, too much effort (traveling) for a rather flat experience. So considering the price, it is not worth it.
The stargazing was excellent, we had an astronomer show and explain different star constellations with a laser. The dinner was also great in a small family owned bodega in the mountains - tasty food, good wine. One thing that could be improved is the hotel pick-up - I wish they just picked and dropped people in one or two locations. We spent almost 3 hours on the bus as it was dropping everyone at their different hotels and we happened to be the last ones to be dropped off.
Great information from the guide very informative, meal was lovely and the star gazing was amazing with fantastic information. Thank you for a great trip
6 hours trip, butwas just 5 hours trip. The bus was 45 minutes late to another Hotel pic up. no info!
This tour is a good example of how to characterize Tenerife's "pearl" from different angles in Teide National Park. To make it more romantic, we started with a delicious three-course dinner and a glass of wine in the wonderful restaurant "Reveron Wines" in the village of Vilaflor. On top of that, we listened and watched a very interesting story about stars and astronomy under the shining stars. What I liked most was watching the person who does his job with such enthusiasm and passion - Thank you so much, guide Diego! My recommendation is to bring a scarf or plaid in addition to the jacket, because it was quite cold, which disturbed me a bit from enjoying watching the stars.
The majority of this trip was spent on a coach rammed with people. It took one and a half hours travelling around picking people up till the bus was full, not ideal during a pandemic, people wore masks but lots of people coughing, too many people . The meal at the bodega was nice but rushed. Stargazing took place in a small parking space in the National Park. As there were guests from all over, the guide said everything three times in 3 different languages, so not much gleaned in the short time we were actually looking at the stars. Not worth the money, I wished I’d stayed back in my hotel.
Such a great trip. The guide we had was really informative. The meal and wine were excellent Would recommend you try it.
The first stop at Bodega Reverón was lovely and the food was nice too for what you pay, they certainly don't hold back on the free wine. Unfortunately our tour guide was awfully boring, he could send a glass eye to sleep! The English tourist on the bus all noticed that he mainly done the tour in Spanish. For Instance he would do a 10min speech in Spanish about the stars and universe etc and you was lucky ro get a 1-2 min explanation of the same in English. At this point the Spanish tourists would be talking over the tour guide so you couldn't really hear him anyway. The tour it self certainly doesn't take you anywhere near the creator of mount tiede. You pull into a car park situated next to the main road. Not the best place for star gazing as you now have a lot of cars driving past and into the car park with their full beam headlights on, just what you need when there should be no light pollution but now you are also blinded from the lights. Other tour operators will walk you into the park a bit so you are away from the traffic noise and lights. The only reason we booked this tour is because it was the only one left with dates we could go on. Do yourselves a favour and pick another tour operator with better reviews. I fell as If we wasted a full evening of our holiday and we all know how precious those nights are.
Our 4th time over the years visiting Tenerife. Bodega Reverón food, wine excellent guide very good to
Whilst staying at the Iberostar El Mirador hotel we booked the “Teide under the stars” excursion run by Viajes Teide. This excursion includes various stops within the Teides National Park to see the amazing volcanic scenery of the island. The trip includes a stop to watch the setting sun with a glass of bubbly, and a visit to a local restaurant for a meal with wine, followed by” star gazing”. Different languages are provided for, according to the day of the excursion; we were told this would be an English-speaking day. As advertized, the excursion “Takes you to the top of the world at night (or at least that’s what it feels like) to go to the Teide with our specialist when its dark and go star gazing, see things like the Milky Way the Constellations, Shooting Stars need we say more, it is truly magical. Our guide specializes in stargazing he will surprise you with his knowledge so educational for adults and children alike. You really feel like you are on another planet. Observe the sky at 2,000 meters away from light pollution and maddening crowd. A sensory experience you will never forget. Dinner is included in the town of Vilaflor the highest village in Spain, this tour will take us to see the stars constellations and the universe from the clearest skies of Teide, Spain's highest mountain”. Unfortunately, we were the only English on this trip, the rest of the party being German. The guide was brilliant on the trip through the park, explaining what we were seeing, but he had to repeat everything in both German and English. The scenery is indeed amazing and there were plenty of stops within the National Park for photos. We also stopped for one hour at the Visitors Centre where we could have a coffee, still leaving time for a short walk. We also stopped at a high point to watch the setting sun. The bus driver was great and took photos of us on our camera. The stop for dinner was at a restaurant where we had a decent meal with a selection of wines to taste. Unfortunately, being the only English in the group, discussion at the table was in German, very little English being spoken. This was therefore a great disappointment for us, not being able to take part in the overall discussions going on. The next major dissappointmet was the ‘stargazing’ next to the restaurant, with a telescope set up on a flat area. Far for being light pollution free, the sky was in fact very light polluted, both from the restaurant itself and several light sources near the horizon. It was therefore impossible to distinguish the Milky Way, even though the sky was clear of cloud or haze. The telescope was initially set up to see Venus – not a good planet to look at, as it is just a white featureless blob! It was then reset to look at a few stars – again not at all impressive. As we had not been asked for any payment on the trip we contacted our holiday rep who phoned the company; they said they would send someone to our hotel the next day. That person arrived about 20 minutes late and she was on the phone while attempting to talk to us at the same time – very rude! We eventually managed to pay by credit card after several attempts with the machine jamming each time, taking over 30 minutes in all. We also told her of our disappointment with various aspects of the excursion, and the fact that it did not meet the advertized information, but she didn’t seem particularly bothered by this, and tried to blame our rep for any misunderstanding. As far as the National Park part of the excursion is concerned, this was a very enjoyable trip with an excellent bus guide and driver, coupled with some amazing scenery (for this alone I would give 5 stars). In terms of its advertized content, however, and particularly the title “Teide under the stars”, it was very misleading and fell far short of its advertized objective, hence the overall score of only 2.
