Wonderful evening out! Erik and Ava are so lovely, friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. Erik gives a fantastic insight into the local culture and how the history links to different foods and wines with a light hearted entertaining delivery. Ava expertly guides you through preparing the wonderful dishes, teaching the techniques and suggesting alternatives for different tastes. The main course is slow cooked to perfection in advance and served with delicious local wine. Our fellow guests were also great, it was a pleasure to spend the evening in such a beautiful village with great company!

Excellent course. Very well done and informative. Amazing value for money.
A Wonderful Husband & Wife Team: This amazing experience is run solely by Chef Ave and her husband, Erik. They are fabulous, welcoming hosts who make you feel like family from start to finish. Seamless Transfers + History Lesson: Erik picked us up right from the Bahia Principe Fantasia hotel an hour before the class and dropped us back off safely. The €60 round-trip transfer was worth every penny, especially since Erik gave us a fantastic mini history lesson about the island along the way! Stunning Picturesque Setting: The workshop is held in a breathtaking, historical village courtyard filled with lush plants, charming murals, and rustic stone. It feels like stepping straight into ancient Tenerife. Mouthwatering Food & Tapas: We had so much fun making authentic Canarian mojo sauce, which we ate alongside perfectly prepared Tenerife wrinkled potatoes and fresh, crusty bread. Chef Ave produced incredibly delicious, locally sourced tapas—including a creative plate beautifully balanced right on top of our wine glasses! Delightful Drinks: Everything was paired beautifully with excellent locally sourced wine and a refreshing, homemade lemongrass lemonade/cordial. Wonderful Social Vibe: I attended with my 17-year-old niece, and we both thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Our session had a great international mix, including ourselves from Scotland, a lovely couple from Boston, and another lovely couple from Germany. We cannot recommend Ave and Erik's class enough—it was an absolute highlight of our trip!
Such a wonderful, well organised, interesting cooking class with delightful hosts, one a 5* chef , it truly was the best Mojo Sauce . The setting is picturesque, the cat is beautiful and we were lucky enough to say hello. We will definitely be back next year for the Paella Class.
Great experience overall! Would highly recommend, it is a one of a kind excursion if you want to connect with Canary Island culture!
Overall, this was a worthwhile cooking class located in a village 900 m above sea level. It combined learning how to prepare 2 traditional dips/sauces that are used extensively in Canarian cuisine with historical insight and a short talk on culinary topics unique to the region. Drinks/Refreshments/tapas/ were offered.
What an amazing experience. Erik with his knowledge of the history from the Cannaries to farther afield to Ave who guided us through the process of making mojo. We were made so welcome and at ease in their beautiful home. This is the first cooking class we have ever attended and the whole experience was fantastic. The time went so quickly which was a shame as I could have stayed for hours chatting to them both. It really is worth every penny. Thank you Erik and Ave.
My husband and I did the mojos cooking class and it was so much fun! Erik and Ave are wonderful hosts. Erik’s stories of the history of the area were fantastic. 100% would recommend this class!
We had an amazing experience! We made delicous traditional mojos and learned loads about the history of the food on the island. The experience finished with a delicious meal when we could enjoy the food we'd made and eat other traditional food including canarian potatoes and tapas. All set in a beautiful and peacful ancient mountaintop village. Would 100% recommend for anyone 8-108! Great family day out!
Truly a highlight of my trip. A chance to see a small village and be invited into their home was extraordinary. The class was informative, fun, generous and the best souvenir is I now can make these sauces back home. I also opted for the shuttle pickup from my hotel and it was easy, friendly, and very safe. Thank you so much!
Special event for everyone, even younger kids. On the side you'll learn some history facts about Tenerife. The hosts are super friendly. We can definitely recommend the Mojo cooking class.
Great experience. Both Erik and his wife very welcoming and knowledgeable. Highly recommend. Hoping to do their Paella course
We had an amazing exerience. The class gave great insights into the nuances of Canary cousine but also provided useful hints for cooking in general. It was all seasoned with exciting story-telling about the islands’ nature, culture and history. The class was held in the cosy home of our wonderful hosts and tutors Ave and Herkki, this made the event even more enjoyable. We will be back for the paella class, for sure! Tiina and Sirje
It exceeded all our expectations. Ave and Eric were incredibly friendly and shared an impressive depth of knowledge about Canarian culture and history. The mojo sauces and tapas were absolutely delicious, truly the best we’ve had in Tenerife. It was the perfect birthday gift and an experience we couldn’t have chosen better. Highly recommended.
Eric is extremely knowledgeable and generous with his local insights. The setup is ideal for learning how to make mojo, particularly for couples, with both green and red mojo prepared so you each create your own version. These are then enjoyed with traditional Canarian potatoes and drinks. Tapas followed as a welcome extra, alongside more fascinating stories about the island and the artefacts displayed in the dining room. The experience finished with a lovely parting gift, a recipe book so you can recreate the mojo at home.
Excellent culinary experience in a beautiful setting. We enjoyed the history paired with cuisine. Highly recommend!
The best thing we did in Tenerife. I am not a cook, I don't like cooking, but this was amazing. I loved it. We will definetly come back again. The couple there that run the experince are beutiful people. They have the most brilliant way of shareing the culture and history. Love it! If I could I would give it 10 out of 5 stars...
Wonderful hosts in such a cosy outdoor kitchen! The location is difficult so they drove us up to the house and we had an amazing time meeting travellers and learning new traditional recipes!
We had a lovely time at the mojos cooking class at Casa Carmen Tenerife. We were picked up from our hotel by Erik, who drove us about 800 metres up into the mountains to a charming, ancient village. The setting alone was worth the trip — peaceful, authentic, and full of character. Once there, Erik shared fascinating history about the area, Tenerife, and Canarian food culture, which really added depth to the experience. His wife, Ave, guided us through preparing both green and red mojos, explaining everything clearly and making it hands-on and fun. They were both very hospitable and welcoming, and it felt more like being invited into someone’s home than attending a formal class. After making the mojos, we moved into a charming dining area where we enjoyed our creations with Canarian potatoes and fresh bread, followed by some delicious tapas. Everything was fresh and flavourful. Overall, it was fun, interesting, relaxed, and authentic — a really cool thing to do if you want to experience local food, culture, and genuine hospitality. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Tenerife.
It was not just a food workshop, but also an introduction to the history of Tenerife, Chirche and the mojos, told expertly by Erik.
Beautiful experience. Hosts were very knowledgeable and interesting to listen too. Delicious food, homemade lemonade and lovely wine.
We returned to Casa Carmen and, just like last time, we were welcomed with warmth and kindness. This time the workshop focused on cooking an authentic Paella, and it was absolutely fantastic. They guided us through the real recipe step by step, sharing tips and traditions. The paella was amazing! A huge thank you to Ave and Erik for another great day. Highly recommended!
I have been participated on a paella cooking workshop. It was one of my best experiences from the island. The workshop was amazing, we learnt the traditional recipe, heard interesting facts about the history and culture which made the event even more special. Thank you for your kind hearts and professional work ❤️
Our paella workshop at Casa Carmen was absolutely wonderful. The house itself is beautiful, cozy, and welcoming — you instantly feel like you’re cooking in a friend’s home. The paella we made was incredibly delicious, and I was surprised to learn that traditional recipes use slightly different ingredients than the ones you often find in restaurants. We cooked, laughed, enjoyed great drinks, and learned new culinary tips. It’s the perfect activity for families or friends, and a great way to experience authentic Spanish culture while enjoying an amazing meal.
I’ve had the pleasure of joining their workshops twice now, and both visits were fantastic. I first tried the mojo workshop and recently joined the paella workshop, each one offered something unique. Ave and Erik are truly amazing hosts who blend culinary skills with local history. If you’re on Tenerife, this is something you shouldn’t miss. Highly recommended!
This experience is a must do. Such a great time and learned much about Canarian history and culture. Take the approach from the west side vs coming down from very narrow streets.
Absolutely fabulous! Perfect experience to learn about Canarian food, traditions and life. We truly loved this experience and have been passing the word to everyone we meet on Tenerife. Truly fun, educational and delicious experience. Ave and Erik are a fabulous team, their place is gorgeous and the experience is memorable! If you don’t do this you are missing out on a great experience and beautiful memories 💕
We had a great time making Mojos. Ana and Erik were great hosts. We really enjoyed Erik’s chats about Cananrian food. He had great knowledge. Ana is an excellent chef and teacher. When come back to Tenerife again, we will definitely join another of their workshops.
Best cooking workshop we ever participated in! Beautiful venue, good vibes from the host couple, delicious ingredients and tasty drinks;) Book in advance and you will definitely like it! Will come back to their another workshop with paella 🥘
The paella workshop was such a fun and memorable experience! It’s perfect even for complete beginners, as everything is explained clearly and the hosts guide you step by step. They are incredibly warm and welcoming, which made the whole atmosphere feel special. The workshop wasn’t just about cooking – the hosts also shared fascinating stories about history, culture, and traditions, so we learned a lot along the way. The wine was excellent, and the best part was enjoying a delicious dinner together, prepared with our own hands. Truly a wonderful experience – I can only give positive feedback and highly recommend it!
If you're looking for a real foodie experience on Tenerife then this workshop should be high on your list of experiences to take part in. A wonderful, relaxing and thoroughly engaging session that is informative, practical and fun from start to finish. Both Ave and Eric are keen to share their enthusiasm for good food, properly made and you are soon engrossed in the experience. The tasting of your produce that follows the practical session really helps with your appreciation of local cuisine. Without giving too much away, you will gain far more than you think from this gem of a workshop. A very highly recommended workshop, definitely one of our favourites.
This must rank amongst 1 of the highlights of any of my trips to tenerife over the years, I had no idea what to expect and was not disappointed, we were all made welcome into the home of Ava and Erik and I think we all felt we had visited paradise so for anyone visiting the island and looking for something different and informative I would highly recommend this tripwithout hesitation
I HAD NO idea what to expect when I booked this many weeks ago but as I have an interest in cookery I decided to try something different and was not disappointed. Although there was some issues with the booking system through a tour agency I manged to make contact with the actual owners who did the event and everything worked out great with fantastic customer service and communication throughout
I just want to say a big thank you to Ave and Eric at Casa Carmen. My girlfriend and I had the chance to learn how to make Mojo Rojo and Mojo Verde today, and we really appreciated all the information you shared, the experience itself, and the way you presented everything. It was such a fun and authentic experience—exactly the kind of activity that Canary Green wants to highlight and promote. Unique moments like this, rooted in local culture and food, are so valuable. Well done, and keep going—I’m sure this is going to be a huge success, and we’ll be more than happy to help spread the word. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
From our new gastronome nine year-old: "It was amazing! It was a Canarian sauces workshop but it should have been called a Canarian tasty success workshop! We all enjoyed it and the snacks after were great. It was so much fun and I would highly recommend. Finding it was easy and Erik and Ave were lovely hosts. The setting is beautiful as well." We (his parents) agree completely. Really glad we did this.
Great experience and opportunity to learn about local food and the history of Tenerife. The canary potatoes were hands down the best potatoes we have ever had. Hosts and the little village were lovely! Definitely recommend.
We took part in the cook workshop at Casa Carmen Tenerife and had such a great time! We learned how to prepare the two most famous Canarian sauces: mojo verde and mojo rojo, and, beyond the recipes, they shared many fascinating stories and insights about the history and culture of the island. Once the sauces were ready, we tasted them together with bread and local potatoes, all in a beautiful spot on the terrace. They use only fresh, genuine ingredients sourced from local suppliers, supporting the community and preserving authentic Canarian flavors! The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, making the experience even more special. A wonderful activity that we highly recommend to anyone who wants to enjoy an authentic taste of the Canary Islands!
Amazing workshop in the beautiful village! From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed by the peaceful atmosphere and the charming historical setting. Chef Ave guided us through the process of making traditional mojo rojo and mojo verde, using local ingredients and explaining everything clearly. The tasting at the end was absolutely delicious. We finished the experience with a relaxing walk around the village, where we learned more about its fascinating history and culture. If you're visiting Tenerife and want to try something authentic and different, this workshop is a must.
It was such an amazing experience! First of all, Erik and Ave couldn’t have been more kind and welcoming, they made us feel like part of the family from the very first moment! Honestly, it went way beyond what we expected… such a warm, authentic, and unforgettable day. 😍 The setting in Chirche is simply breathtaking and the mojos we made were absolutely delicious! Furthermore, thanking to Erik, we learned so many fun and interesting things along the way (I can't imagine a better tour guide!) Also here you can try real Canarian potatoes (papas arrugadas) and you can actually tell the difference comparing to the ones in the touristic spots If you’re in Tenerife, you definitely have to try this, you’ll leave with a full heart and a happy stomach! ❤️🌶️
what a lovely place, full of history……very picturesque….. and the mojo …fantastic….if we come back I want to learn how to make paella 😂 I loved everything about it. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ thank you for your great hospitality
So glad we booked this workshop. We learned how to make a Canarian staple, and had a wonderful history lesson from the leaders about the cuisine and also the local environment and way of life. Truly can’t recommend enough if you’re interested in an excursion that begins to shed light on the culture and history of Tenerife.
This is one of the best activities to do as soon as you arrive in Tenerife! You learn about the whole island, not just the mojo sauces. The food was great, and the location is calm and beautiful. We had a lot of fun drinking local wine and chatting with the other guests.
A very warm welcome and introduction to Tenerife beyond the tourist trail. The mojo was delicious, and the short walk around the town rounded off a lovely afternoon. I wish we had done it sooner in our week here!
Thank you Erik and Ave for a great experience today. Casa Carmen is in a lovely authentic Canarian village up in the mountains. We were able to continue up the mountain and combine it with a trip to see Mt Teidi in the afternoon too. It was great to hear from Erik about the history of the island and it’s cuisine, as well as his experience of living there. We learnt how to make the two most common Mojo sauces from Ave, and sat down to a meal of these and some bread and Canarian potatoes afterwards. It was great to hear Erik’s stories over lunch, we learnt a lot about the country and culture, that we wouldn’t have done otherwise. If you want to get a feel for the island and go somewhere ‘off the beaten track’ then this is ideal, and makes a great stopping point if you want to venture up to Mount Teidi.
The workshop and the tasting were interesting and fun - so I would recommend it. But I was a little surprised that it is organized and conducted by an eastern European (from the Baltics?) family. I expected an original and authentic event by native Canarians with a little more backstory.
Very informative about potatoes in the Canary Islands and how the south of Tenerife came to be settled. Erik & Ave are welcoming hosts and the preparation of the delicious Moho’s is very hands on followed by a convivial light lunch.
An all around fabulous experience - the narrow winding road to an old authentic Canarian village at 800 m height, original 200+ years old house lovingly restored with many original features and details, great hands-on experience of making Canarian mojo sauces to be followed by a 3-course gourmet dinner of fish and seafood. Herkki is a talented storyteller, Ave a gifted chef - the combination of whom is an inspiring and enriching experience of history and culture lesson together with a feast of Canarian tastes that include ingredients from local farmers (award-winning goat cheese from the next village, local whine, etc) that you can't find in supermarkets or restaurants in touristy parts of Tenerife.
Great mojomaking workshop, good food and drinks spiced with interesting stories about life in Tenerife. Ave for the mojomaking and Erik for the stories: excellent and highly recommended. We also made alittle hike where Erik told us about past and present life and habits.
We enjoyed our visit at Casa Carmen. It was a really nice mix of history, culture and hands-on experience. During the couple hours we got a brief introduction to the local history, traditions and culture followed by a quick course as we learned to prepare traditional Canary culinary staples, the red and green mojo sauce. Afterwards, we got to enjoy a nice and relaxed meal tasting the sauces with some local beverages and traditional potatoes. The whole experience was topped off with a brief walk to see more local history in the surrounding village and countryside. A great way to spend a few hours away from the bustle of tourist traps.
The experience was truly authentic, fun, immersive, and absolutely one-of-a-kind. If you’re looking to dive into the heart of Tenerife’s culture, this is the perfect choice. Erik and his wife are incredibly knowledgeable, warm, and wonderfully hospitable. From preparing the recipe from scratch using traditional tools to sharing the meal with fascinating stories and insights, every moment was special. The short hike through the village, enriched with historical details, was the perfect finishing touch. It was time well spent and an unforgettable experience!
