Staff really friendly, it was a long wait so best to get there early, waiting time didnt spoil it as 5 min walk there is a cafe to relax while waiting. The ride was beautiful the camels well looked after with a break inbetween each ride.

⭐ 1 Star – Extremely disappointing experience We booked a camel ride for 9 people through a third-party booking company and paid €91 in full. Unfortunately, when we arrived, the camel ride company refused to honour our booking because we had not paid them directly. We were told that we would need to pay them again directly and then try to get a refund from the third-party company. We had already paid for the experience in full, so we were understandably not prepared to pay another €91 on the assumption that we would eventually receive a refund. The way the situation was handled was extremely disappointing. Rather than trying to help resolve the issue between themselves and the third-party booking company, we were simply turned away. The staff were also very rude and unhelpful, which made an already frustrating situation even worse. The most upsetting part was having to leave with very unhappy and disappointed children, who had been looking forward to riding the camels and were unable to do so through no fault of their own. If you accept bookings through third-party companies, communication and responsibility for those bookings should be clear. Customers who have already paid in full should not be put in the position of having to pay twice just to receive the experience they booked. Sadly, this completely ruined what should have been a lovely family experience, and based on how we were treated, we would not recommend this company.
The overall experience was fun. What let it down is we booked a time slot, then when we turned up in that time slot, we were told to wait a further 75 minutes!
It was a nice way to get some good pictures of the dunes. It’s slow paced, a calm activity to do. Nothing spectacular, but something to do with
We arrived at 09:30 and queued for an hour to get to the front of the queue only then to be told we had to wait another hour for our ride. When the ride finally came, the 'guide' leading the camels spent the entire time on his phone whilst we were walked at an unbearably slow pace. It would have been much better to have had some information about the camels and the dunes. The staff were friendly and facilities clean. Whilst the camels do seem well cared for, they are wearing metal muzzles which dont look great at all. Overall I would say this is not at all worth it.
Very disappointing! The trek wasn't the kind of experience we were expecting. Maspalomas dunes are beautiful but this was in the scrub land with no dunes to be seen, using a long chain of very sad looking camels unfortunately.
Myself and partner were told great things about the camel rides over the dunes, so we walked up and the scenery looked amazing. We arrived at what was a small facility, and booked a ticket (prior to seeing any camels). We waited and saw the first group of camels come back, they looked exhausted. They had awful cages over their faces and some pushed against their noses. Their fur didn’t look clean either. They were not given anything to drink whilst on their ‘break’ before the next group and would just be laid down chained together by rope in between tours. When it was our turn on the camels we sat down and in order to make the camels stand the staff would yank at the rope attached to their heads or smack them. The camels would slowly stand whilst grunting, seemingly unsteady on their feet. We were at the back of our tour and on the back legs of the camel in front, it had scars all over it, from a whip. This is what got us going and since then it was such a downer. Poor things. The ride itself wasn’t too bad. More of a walk through a sandy public footpath rather than the dunes itself. I would not pay into this kind of animal cruelty again.
Horrible Was told online weight limit was 110kg to find out on day it was changed to 100kg meaning one of our party couldn’t ride by 2kg The camels where hit constantly as they didn’t want to walk faster seems a cruel practice in todays world and seemed to be unhappy wearing makeshift chicken wire muzzles would not recommend at all you don’t go over the dunes just the public foot way in the scrubland next to it
An underwhelming experience. The only fun part was trying to stay balanced when the camel stood up and laid down. The walk was through the scrubland rather than across the beautiful dunes. The pace was very slow and the camels were lashed together and muzzled with a sort of cage. Their joints looked like they spent a long time on their knees so they were stiff. Queuing was disorderly and one of the organisers took photos of each camel rider but there was no instruction as to whether they could be purchased. A little information about camels would also have made for a more interesting experience. It's not something I would do again in a hurry.
Great experience, really made our day. The whole family enjoyed it and it’s given us all a lovely memory of time spent together. The camels seemed well cared for. We visited Gran Canaria as part of our cruise so had to organise our own transfer from the port which was more expensive than expected. The taxi drivers like to haggle!
It was a lovely experience. The camels also seemed quite happy. I would definitely recommend doing this at least once. We went in January, so we didn’t have to wait long to ride the camels (~20 mins).
Booked our tickets through trip advisor which was very easy to do! Messaged the company to ask what time was the best time to come and had an answer very promptly advising to come early. Got a taxi from our hotel and arrived at 8.40 am and we were 2nd in the queue. Staff opened the gate at 9 am we went to register and was on the camels by 9.15. Fantastic trip through the dunes, really enjoyable! With the option of buying a picture at the end for £5 which is very reasonable compared to other trips we have been on . Very highly recommended thank you
Staff were friendly, made sure everyone was comfortable getting on and off camels. It’s central to Las Maspolamos bus station so easy to get to via public transport.
The camels are really nice and the staff friendly! Our Camel was called Daniel. We ordered a photo which was only 5euro
All the staff were really friendly and helpful. The camels did really well to make the journey smooth even though my son was nervous.
As previous reviewers have touched on the ticketing system is a little bit flawed. We went one day at midday only to find it was booked up for the rest of the day. Then we booked online and went first thing and it was really busy with a big queue. So I don’t know what the answer is really on the tickets. However, once we did the tour it was really enjoyable. The staff were really good and v kind to the camels. It was nice to see the dunes. My son and I had never gone camel riding before and were glad we did it. The camels weren’t smelly as others have written and they were v docile. I’d recommend this if you haven’t done it before but I’m not sure what to advise on timing!
Had to buy the tickets twice and hired a car to get there and was boring ah only did two small laps camels looked very unhappy
Really loved this experience. I'd paid ahead of time but you still have to book a time slot for your ride. All the other reviews advised getting there early as spaces fill up quickly but thanks to bus trouble, I arrived at about midday; not that it was a problem. I was accepted right away, with only a 10minute wait before riding - phew! The camels seemed to be well taken care of and weren't smelly at all, like everyone seems to believe. My camel's name was Richard (love it) and he was gentle, sweet and very chilled. The ride through the dunes itself was about 20 minutes long, at a comfortable pace that allows you to enjoy the views and the sea breeze. The trainers walk with you through the journey to guide the camel's and they seemed very knowledgeable and kind to the animals. As you leave the compound, you also have your picture taken by a member of staff, riding the camel's. You could pick them up at the end of the ride and they were a very decent price. Honestly, I loved every minute and would do it again in a heartbeat. Thanks for a lovely experience Richard and Co!
Wife and baby also humped around. Camels look happy enough. Had some wire muzzle on but I assume that stops them nibbling my ear. Otherwise full of sand, sun and smell. Super uncomfortable but at least I wasn’t lugging around 2 x 110kg sunburnt whales (tourists) on holiday so can’t complain. Would feel very sorry for the camel that would have to do that job. Worth doing once - now I’ve ridden a camel I won’t ever again though
We honestly had a fantastic time riding the camels! 🌞🐪 The photos they use to advertise the experience really doesn’t do it justice… being honest mine are better hehe. 1 or 2 in our group were a little apprehensive… but they absolutely loved it too. The establishment is quite well organised, the reception area is decorated in an Arabic style. The camels didn’t actually smell surprisingly! And the place itself was quite clean. The staff are friendly. We got there around 9:45am (middle of January) got our ticket, and we’re on the camels by 9:55am. I recommend going in the morning whilst it’s quiet, I think we enjoyed it so much BECAUSE it was quiet. Whilst we waited, we could look at the camels - and going near them wasn’t scary- they are very calm. The camels were really docile and friendly- we were pleasantly surprised to find that they each had their own name- (ours was called Sanba) and that the staff know the name of each camel. (Using their names as they help us disembark at the end) If you’re worried about it being ethical- I thought it was as ethical as can be for this kind of thing. From what we could tell, there was 3 sets of camels- and they would only take out 1 set at a time. The other 2 lots would sit relaxing and recharging their batteries which I thought was great. (I’m not sure if they do this all the time, but nice to see that when possible, they will only take 1 set at a time) Also we must remember that camels are built to withstand miles of walking through parched deserts without water, so I think this is easy for them. The little metal nets on their faces are to actually protect THEM from harm, not us- they are very docile and friendly. The ride itself lasted around 30-40 minutes, and was very pleasant. They take you in a circuit through the dunes, you can see the mountains in the distance… ⛰🐪🌞 The staff were very nice - they offered to take photos for everyone along the way. The staff also snap 2 photos of each camel during the ride - with a camera which you can purchase for €5 each- not the best quality, but a cool souvenir. There is also a car park nearby if you’re driving, make sure you put your satnav for the carpark directly as you can get lost trying to find the actual camel reception. It’s the best €15 or so euros we’ve ever spent, what a great experience.
Address is not correct. It should be shorter riding time.It became boring after a few minutes. A new experience for us
Great experience. Would have been even better if the camels were equipped with proper harnesses as would any horse. Instead, they had handmade rope harnesses and metal muzzles. It seemed uncomfortable for the camels.
Was a little unsure of this activity as I’m conscious of how the animals are treated. But, these camels were placid, seemed happy and were obviously well cared for. The camel safari itself lasted about half an hour and we thoroughly enjoyed it. All the staff seemed to be in their element and it was very relaxed and well organised. A surprise gem in our holiday!
The guide was very informative and extremely kind and patient with us…. We had a fantastic time!!! I definitely recommend this experience to all that come to this island
In addition to a ticket, you need to show up personally to receive a time slot for your ride. This also if the ticket is prepaid in full for the day. We got there 13:00 and barely made it possible to ride at 14:40 even though it's stated that they operate until 16:00. L I would recommend showing up in the morning if possible to reserve your time slot and spend the day in maspalomas. It's very affordable experience. The animals does not seem to have been treated very well. Many have marks that looks like it's from whips on their thighs and our camel had a cyst that was not well taken care of or drained.
I'm not exactly sure why other reviews are saying the camels were treated badly, after talking to two members of staff, I know that the animals are extremely well cared for. However! The trip was exceptionally good value, the duration was perfect, the staff were extremely friendly and it was an experience we'll never forget. There's an option to buy photos (as per a lot of other attractions), however at only €5, I even found that very good value as well! An amazing adventure
It was very nice and funny trip. Stuff is very helpful and accommodating. On-line reservation worked perfectly out. Some people came without tickets and took part in the trip without waiting. I will give 5 Stars for it and I am highly recommending this trip. So far about the trip, now about the people and authors of previous reviews. I am not expert but as I know, camels are desert animals. Are you, guys, sure they will not get seek if you give them water every two hours? Where did you get knowledge about how to take care of camels? Seriously, of course we can complain that stuff do not give forks to camels by feeding them. But, since camels do not need forks anyway, it might be better just to think before writing.
The camels are treated very badly. They have two seats on the side of their humps, the are all chained one to another and they have muzzle. The don’t have anytime to rest and the experience is not the safari you hope for. It was awful. Also the owner aren’t very nice either with the costumers.
If I could give this no stars I would. We brought tickets for myself husband my 5 year old and my 1 year old. We was told to go any time as they have loads of rides throughout the day so we showed up at 12 for the staff to say that they are not doing anymore and all the tickets were sold. We proceeded to tell them we already had our tickets and they kept saying closed at this point my 5 year old was crying. We stood there a while and we saw the woman was selling tickets still and letting them on the camels. The staff are extremely rude and are just there for the money. The camels are extremely malnourished and was not given any water in the two hours we were there. Their fur was very matted and unkept. Someone should seriously closed this place down and take the camels somewhere they will be looked after.
Start to finish terrible dont bother , poor animals and staff dont care , directions are a joke if you find that sort of thing funny
First time in Gran Canaria and seen this experience advertised. One of the best experiences ever. Thanks for the ride Balu, and thanks for the entertainment José. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Amazing experience!! Loved every minute of it, camels were very well looked after and the tour guides were extremely nice:) sand dunes were beautiful, had a lovely time.
We went camel riding with a family of 6. There wasn't any taxi stop so the driver has to stop close by and we walked the rest of the way, which we got lost a bit at first (please notice that at the taxi stop, there is a sign showing the way.. we missed it initially). After a nice somewhat long walk to the camel ride, we came to a herd of camels that are super duper cute. Please get to the meeting spot like 30 minutes before the ride to make sure you get your spot and won't have to wait another hour for the next ride. Getting on the camels was quite interesting like getting to a twisty rollercoaster but after that once you are on it nicely, everything is fine. It was a really nice experience and I would totally recommend it to whoever visit Gran Canaria. However, not sure if the camels were very happy being tied together like a train with the muzzles around their mouths.
Something different to do in the Canary Islands. We tried the camels previously in Marrakesh and it wasn’t comfortable. This time we weren’t sure if we will bear the 30 mins. It was more comfortable this time and the seats are well designed. My 5 year old son was able to ride on a seat. I carried my other 2 year old son. It was about 30 mins along the dunes and was great experience.
I am deeply shaken and outraged by what I experienced today during this camel ride in Maspalomas. The animals are in an absolutely pathetic state. Each one carries two heavy metal saddles. They are equipped with metal muzzles that seem to hinder their breathing. They are tied to each other in such a restrictive way that they cannot even turn or lower their heads freely. Throughout the entire ride, I could not stop feeling guilt and disgust toward myself for having agreed to participate in this activity. I regretted it from beginning to end. On one side, unhappy, exhausted animals, deprived of their freedom and their movements. On the other, happy, smiling tourists who take photos and enjoy their "experience" without even seeming to notice the distress of the animals carrying them. How can we still call this entertainment? It is not an attraction, it is animal suffering turned into a spectacle for tourists. I am ashamed that we, humans, continue to pay for this, to encourage it, and to close our eyes to the suffering of defenseless living beings. The more I discover humans, the more I love animals. I deeply regret having contributed, even involuntarily, to this activity. Do not make the same mistake. Think before you pay for this experience. Behind your souvenir photos, there are animals that have no choice.
It is animal cruelty.. we did not take part in the tour when we saw the animals.
A whole nice experience with lovely guides!
Despite reservation we had to wait 1 hour. Camel guide a bit wobbly but still good. Not very well organized. We would not go there again but it is recommended.
New experience for me and my girlfriend, and I must say that overall it was positive, the camels are very quiet, we petted them more than once and they did not seem very quiet, the guides kind and nice, I expected a walk in the dunes, but it is a predetermined route, otherwise everything is ok 👍🏻😁
Better go early for the heat, and not carry things because you'll have to carry them. Bottle of water although there is machine to buy it and they are not expensive.
The experience was very disappointing. We had to wait a very long time under a blazing sun, with more than 40 degrees, without a single fan to relieve the heat. Just a water machine, which admitted one euro coins. Conditions were unfortunate, especially for older people or with young children. In addition, when booking we were given neither an estimated time nor clear information about waiting times. The organization leaves much to be desired. We would not repeat and, honestly, we do not recommend it if you value your time and well-being
An interesting tour by the fact of riding a camel, is a pleasant ride of about 30 minutes, little more... people are friendly, but the entrance is a little chaos, the order of arrival is not respected, we were treated openly and the one who first passes the gate, even if it sneaks, nothing happens to them does not care, that must improve it, certainly with me they do not count for another and I do not recommend it
All very nice, the animals are treated well and the guides are very good. only thing that should be specified are Dromedaries and not Camels
We had already had the experience of riding a camel on other islands such as Lanzarote (next to Timanfaya) and Fuerteventura (near some volcanoes in the north). So we decided to try it on the dunes. In itself the experience well, they have 3-4 camel caravan sticks, very friendly guides and the walk that lasts about half an hour pretty. The bad thing is that you don’t have fixed time, you go on a first come, first served basis, you are assigned the camels and if you don’t have it pre-purchased you may not be able to ride a month like August. We have to get there as soon as possible. However, we were unlucky that there was a small storm at dawn that day, even with rain. That took over an hour and we had to wait. Although the person who was organizing that was able to overtake us waiting for some group that wasn’t completed, so we didn’t have to wait too long either. Thank you very much. Deep down it was worth it for doing the activity. It would be advisable for them to organize better, doing so basically with paper and pen.
We booked online and went first thing. Once you get there you get a number and you have to wait your turn. They have shaded areas for waiting. The animals look well looked after and the staff very loving to the animals. Good experience. Recommended
We were honestly shocked!! The camels are in a bad condition - both physically and mentally. They are not cared for and the humps have completely disappeared due to the seat frames. The animals are tied together extremely tightly. When a camel tried to stand up, it was brutally pulled to the ground and even more brutally tied to the ground. Even the camel's bellowing only caused the animal trouble and amused the spectators waiting for their ride. They were obviously not aware of the animal cruelty taking place here. The animals do not get enough water and have no space and are kept in the worst conditions. No one should book here to make it clear to the operator that animals need to be treated and cared for better and not treated like any old thing! In addition, all of the animals were wearing muzzles that were far too small...
