We had a lovely time on the Saffron Walden food tour. Rachel was incredibly knowledgeable about the town and the food. We learnt so much history as well as tasted some fantastic food! We will definitely be back to all the places we visited!

A great walking food tour of Saffron Walden combining interesting information about the town with visits to artisan food shops.
An excellent evening, with good speakers and local beers and cheese to try and be guided trough. Another really good event organised by food tours.
This tour was excellent I recommend it without reservation. Rachel took us on a fascinating and leisurely tour of the town visiting beautifully selected stop offs with food and drink producers who create exceptional food and drink. We were perfectly full by the end and every taste and sample was delicious. The other exceptional aspect is Rachel’s impressive experience in the industry and her ability to inspire us all with her friendly and knowledgeable commentary. Her relationships with providers was very clear. There were 5 of us. We want to do another good tour with Rachel soon. Brilliant fun and great value. We learned a lot
A truly wonderful food tour! The 6 independent artisans had exquisite food and/or drink to sample. The food tour was lead by a historically knowledgeable food expert. So great to be introduced to all of them (some you'd never stumble across when exploring Saffron Walden yourselves). So good we returned on market day to gather some food to take home and, revive ourselves by having brunch.
This was a special Food Tour designed for a local society. A group of 10 members enjoyed a fantastic experience with Rachel where there was lots of surprise information provided by Rachel in a very fun way. The food stops were extremely well organised and all were delicious. Highly recommended.
I’ve lived in the area for nearly 30 years and yet Rachel brought Saffron Walden into vivid light! Absolutely wonderful combination of good food, interesting drinks and yummy treats plus history! Great afternoon, I thoroughly recommend!
Rachel told us about the history of one of the oldest markets in Englands and then took us to stalls to hear their stories and taste their wares. What an interesting bunch. An ex-electrician who sells cheese, an ex-banker who sells coffee: and you have to find out what the sausage founder used to do.: they all have passion for their wares in common. Some start ups (first time in the market) and others there for 3 generations. We went back after the tour and bought something from every store we visited! A wonderful way (despite the early start to avoid the crowds) to discover excellent quality food.
This was our second food tour with Rachel. ( 1st was Saffron Walden about a year ago). In both cases her knowledge of the history ,coloured by local anecdotes, shone through. We visited at least 8 venues, sampling delicious food along the way, generally chatting with the owners or staff. The variety of locations was great, and the quality of food was varied, tasty, and VERY generous! Would highly recommend!
A very enjoyable way to spend a few hours in a lovely town. Our guide Rachrl was enthusiastic and informative. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour
Rachel was 5 star. Hugely knowledgeable about the history of Saffron Walden and knew all the independent eateries which were excellent. Would highly recommend.
I attended the Saffron Walden Food Tour with my parents in December, and it genuinely exceeded my expectations. Rachel was an excellent guide – incredibly knowledgeable about Saffron Walden, its history, and of course all things food. She struck the perfect balance between storytelling and local insight, which made the whole experience feel rich and engaging rather than rushed or touristy. We were taken to some fantastic local eateries, where we sampled a generous amount of delicious food along the way - far more than I expected. It was a lovely way to explore the town, support local businesses, and discover places we might not otherwise have tried. I’ve been raving about this tour to everyone I’ve spoken to since, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to both locals and visitors alike. A brilliant experience from start to finish.
I live in Saffron Walden with my husband and had 4 friends visiting from London for the weekend. I convinced them to come early on Friday morning so we could do the food walking tour with Rachel. The tour was amazing in so many ways. Rachel was enthusiastic, authentic and fun. She brought a depth of knowledge about the town and the area and provided interesting historical facts as well as telling the stories of the various venues / people that we visiting. The different food venues were lovely and the owners gave us attention as well as drawing us into their stories, even for just a while. The food was delicious in every venue. We bought bread and fish and will certainly return for more. A thoroughly memorable experience. Thank you, Rachel.
As a foreign visitor, this tour was an exceptional experience, providing me with a wealth of knowledge. It offered us the opportunity to sample exquisite local cuisine from Saffron Walden's restaurants, grocers, and even the most remarkable fishmonger. The chefs there craft delectable dishes utilizing fresh, local ingredients, surpassing the traditional recipes we are accustomed to. The treacle trout from "Saffron Fish" was exceptionally flavorful and ideal for dinner parties. The poached egg served atop a bed of sweet potato, kale, and avocado at "Grass & Goat" was a resounding success. Additionally, the chicken and waffles at "Waffle & Company" presented a delightful fusion of savory and sweet, providing a novel and delectable experience. These culinary delights were particularly noteworthy, especially considering our exceptional host, "Rachel," who shared the captivating history of her hometown, which was an invaluable addition to the tour.
What a wonderful experience eating our way around Saffron Walden. Rachel is a brilliant guide, full of interesting information and her passion for food is intoxicating. Highly recommended.
Could not get over what a great time we had! The whole tour was so well organised from the emails before to the day itself and the thoughtful follow up after. I was also impressed by how well my gluten free diet was accommodated.
Having received a voucher for Hello Food Tours, we booked a tour of Saffron Walden, a town we often visit. Rachel introduced our small group to a number of places we had not tried before for generous tastings of delicious food and drink. She clearly knew her venues and owners and provided us with well balanced background on the food, the venue with an interesting amount of history on Saffron Walden itself. We really did enjoy this event and actually followed up by booking a long weekend stay in Saffron Walden so that we can return to some of the venues we tried.
Eat and drink your way through pretty Saffron Walden! A delicious and very interesting way to learn about this market town. I joined Rachel on one of her food tours in Saffron Walden last Thursday, a place I called home many years ago. Over the last 16 years, there has been a significant transformation here. Once a sleepy market town with many chain coffee shops, it has now become a foodie heaven where coffee roasters, a bean-to-bar chocolate artisan, and a craft beer bar are amongst many excellent foodie businesses which have settled here. Of course, you can trail around Saffron Walden yourself, but it is much better with the guidance of a foodie who not only introduces you to delicious food and the owners of carefully selected businesses, but also shares the local history of the area you are visiting. I highly recommend joining this tour, having eaten my way around the world on many food tours, and I might even return with a friend or join Rachel's Bishop Stortford food tour.
local breakfast bun,sea food ,fresh drinks, medieval architecture, very nice tour guide, everything is perfect. If you like local food and cultural ,this spot is highly recommended .
We were given this experience for a gift, and what an experience it was! Rachel was so knowledgeable of the lovely historic town of Saffron Walden which we walked around. The foodie venues she took us to, were so welcoming and fed us tasty homemade titbits. The owners and their staff obviously all worked so hard to make their businesses a success, which they had achieved. It was a very memorable day and one we would definitely recommend, and one we will be repeating.
A really interesting and informative morning supported by regular stops at really good food shops with great tasting from the restaurant menus.. Rachel was an excellent guide full of enthusiasm for the restaurants food and the town.
Had a very enjoyable informative walk around Saffron Walden with our guide Rachel. She is very passionate about food & history. We were treated to the most delicious locally made/sourced food. The business owners were very friendly and it was very interesting hearing their stores of how they arrived here. I will definitely be back to visit more of the wonderful eateries of Saffron Walden.
A very enjoyable informative tour that was great fun and tasted some delicious food. Rachel had really done her research. I would highly recommend this tour.
Amazing birthday treat, our guide Rachel was awesome, so knowledgeable and passionate about history and food. We learnt so much the town and enjoyed amazing food and drink at 7 different stops. Couldn’t recommend it enough.
Thoroughly enjoyed Rachel’s food tour of Saffron Walden. Rachel is a delight, friendly and knowledgeable and although we shop fairly regularly in the town she showed us some shops and cafes which we didn’t know existed. All the venues and food tastings were impressive, from a wet fish shop, to a wonderful baker and a chocolatier. It was great to meet the hardworking and dedicated owners and staff and with its many vibrant independent businesses we can understand why Saffron Walden has been voted the number one place in the UK to live.
If you go to Saffron Walden from Cambridge, it's likely to see St Mary's, the lovely, huge Perpendicular wool parish church included in Simon Jenkins' "England's Thousand Best Churches." Saffron Walden is also an ancient market town, full of wonky old buildings, where saffron was grown to dye wool yellow during the later Middle Ages. Rachel, the tour leader, is knowledgeable about the commercial history of the town and the old shops and markets, some with pargeting. The result is that you get a very good walking tour of the center of the town with a nice lunch along the way. Of the food establishments visited, the chocolatier, Hill St., is outstanding.
Rachel was the perfect guide providing a highly informative and enthusiastic walk and munch around seven different establishments around Saffron Walden. With tons of great information about the food and social history of the town and a very warm welcome with delicious food and drink from passionate local independent businesses, it felt like a very special experience. Would highly recommend a food tour with Rachel!
Had a brilliant tour. Lots of venues that we haven't tried before, interesting facts about the venues and owners and brilliant food.
Just been on a Hello Food Tours tour of Bishops Stortford - a 3 hour amble around the town, learning about its history and culinary heritage from the past and now. Explored (and tasted) a wide variety of foods from various cultures, while meeting and hearing the stories of the independent owners who have the passion for their food business. A very nice long lunch, and recommended.
The tour was a gift and totally surpassed our expectations (which were already high!). Rachel was a mine of information and as well as introducing us to some delicious local food, she had some really interesting information about the town. It was my husbands birthday the day we did the tour, and all the places we stopped wished him a happy birthday.......he was thrilled! We would recommend the experience unreservedly!
Really informative walk around town with some great food as well. Saffron Walden is a great town with lovely independent retailers
This is a fantastic food tour. Rachel is very informative and knowledgeable about local foods. She has created a great tour. Our group loved it, and I highly recommend it!
Had a fabulous tour with Hello food tours in Bishops Stortford. Rachel was a great guide. The restaurants and cafes we visited were friendly and welcoming and keen to talk us through what food we were going to taste. All were delicious and we had plenty of variety. I would recommend this is as a gift for friends and family or for a good day out to treat yourself!
My lovely friends bought me this amazing tour for my birthday. Right from the start Rachel was very informative and friendly. The food stops were all independent and very individual. Loads of delicious food ( especially the burger at East 17) really enjoyed it Thoroughly recommend this tour , want to try the Saffron Waldron one now !! Won’t be eating again for at least 24 hours 😊
The best food tour I’ve taken! Rachel is fabulous- informative, a huge gold mine of food knowledge and history. The food outlets were perfectly picked for us, all locally produced fresh food and drinks served with care and expertise.
Can’t recommend this tour enough! We visited 8 local businesses and had plenty of samples. Each venue was well picked and Rachel, our tour guide, or the owners explained about the origins of all the food we were tasting. Rachel also gave us really interesting information about the history of the town. It’s obviously something she loves as she was so enthusiastic which made it all very enjoyable and the time flew by. We also got a better rate as we booked direct and had a block booking for 7 of us.
We had a wonderful time on the food tour with Rachel in the beautiful town of Saffron Walden! I would thoroughly recommend it, even if, like me, you are local! ( Our friends weren't). Rachel was a superb guide, telling us lots of interesting stories about the town, and how things had changed over the years. We must have visited 8 different establishments, where we met the owners, and sampled the fare. The food was all delicious, and portions were very very generous! We certainly did not need an evening meal! I would highly recommend this tour! Thank you Rachel!
Rachel ran this tour for my parents on their 60th wedding anniversary, taking in the special nature of the occasion and the needs of a couple in their eighties! They absolutely loved all the people and places they visited, and how well they were looked after by Rachel. A great idea for a gift or a treat.
Such a great tour! So many interesting places that I had never been to in Saffron Walden. Interesting to meet some of the owners and hear about their businesses and loved all the delicious food! Highly recommend!
A really fun, sociable and informative experience - even for a relatively local person. The guide (Rachel) is very knowledgeable and full of information about the town's history as well as all the food outlets. Our group tasted its way around about eight places with very different offerings, both in terms of food and ambience. The price was well worth it as everyone was very well fed and I didn't need supper that night let alone any further lunch!! This would be really fun to do as a group of friends but also a nice way for a solo traveller to eat in friendly company. NB. it's necessary to pre-book, you cant just turn up.
Rachel's food tour was amazing, we all absolutely loved the different dishes we were served across the many independent eateries in Saffron Walden. Rachel explained each location in an informative and fun way; we were then greeted by each owner who added more to the narrative. A unique and fabulous experience. Highly recommended!
Rachel’s food tour around Saffron Walden was amazing. I'm a local and I discovered food venues that I hadn’t known about before. The food was so tasty and I’d thoroughly recommend this food tour to both locals and visitors to our beautiful medieval town.
